little billy is an existential threat to dialtown's very universe and i can prove it: a game theory

i dont trust this little beast.

prior to the roger dlc i didn't think a whole lot of him. he's fun, he's funny, the whole colossal billy bit is great. but i didn't consider him much, his greater role in the story. his whole fabron-virus deal in the roger good route got me to reconsider..basically everything about him, including stuff on the extras pages & his appearances in mingling scenes in ch3.

i think that little billy is aware of dialtown's universe/reality on a level most characters aren't, more similar to gingi and god. colossal billy, on some level, i believe is absolutely real, and has connections to the nothing beyond the edges of dt's reality. a few points, ordered from (imo) least to most substantiated:

1. billy is one of few characters that ever break the fourth wall

dialtown has a lot of fourth wall breaks. gingi, in some fashion, is aware of the various branching routes the game can take, it references other routes frequently, they're aware of the merged-ch3-timeline being weird in some sense. they're responsible for the vast majority of fourth wall breaks in the game. god, of course, does, like his UI-hijack during one of the mingling scenes. other than those two, fourth wall breaks are few and far between (i think norm does one?), so i think it's significant that billy does it at least twice.

firstly is the mingling scene where he keeps interrupting mingus from having the last word in, specifically referencing the screen fading to black:

secondly, and i think more notably (since mingus does kind of do it herself there), is in the roger route, in the ending where you swallow the usb stick and shit yourself and die. in addition to all the other ominous bullshit, there's this line:

which, yeah, end card. not much else to say there.

admittedly, i do think this is the weakest point here on its own- as mentioned before, mingus and norm do break the fourth wall on their own at some point in time, i believe once each. that being said, i do think it helps build a case for billy's awareness of dialtown's reality as we move forward to the next points, and is very relevant in the context of the rest of billy's everything.

2. god is afraid of little billy (and given who else god is afraid of, that worries me)

okay, so, god. fascinating guy. i think some of the most interesting stuff about him is what unsettles him. according to god, time in dialtown's universe works like a straight line- rather than how we might usually conceptualize the branching paths of time (or, say, branching routes in a visual novel) like a tree, time in DT is a straight line. a timeline begins, happens, ends, and another begins, happens with minute differences, and ends, so on.

god isn't omniscient, he's just a guy whose been around for an unfathomable amount of time, experiencing timeline after timeline, start to finish. he knows things that are about to happen (mingling gravel bit) because he's seen so much shit that basically everything becomes predictable.

ergo, the things that scare god are things that he can't predict, things that he doesn't understand. case in point, he finds gingi's existence as being exclusive to dt's timeline unsettling:

what else is god scared of? well, callum crown, of course.

whatever callum did to enact the dialup is something that messed with the very fabric of reality- so much so that god himself is beholden to the objecthead rule- and that "scare[s him] shitless".

yknow who else god is scared shitless of?

yeah.

3. billy is directly linked to enc0unter, plus the whole event in which he Hacked An Entire Man

firstoff, just to go over the enc0unter connections here.

most obvious is the eyes and teeth motif, and the images in the background (seen on the monitors in fabron's room and omair's shop) being THE enc0unter image, which has been said to be representative of weak spots in dialtown's (crumbling) reality. keep this passage in mind for later.

worth noting, fabron's font while possessed is special elite- the only other time in the game this font is used is in enc0unter's scene. in addition to the literal eyes and teeth images being used, the motif is reinforced in fabron's dialogue, further drawing a connection between colossal billy and enc0unter:

("many eyes always watching", notably, also being something scrawled on the side of norm's shack, presumably by norm, alongside the warning about not drinking the water (on account of the lead). "many eyes always gazing" is also one of the possible menu quotes that can appear.)

keep the big blink line in mind for later.

i think the severity of what billy was able to do with his little virus is also notable. like, and i don't think i can put enough emphasis on this, little billy hacked a man. he hijacked a human person's entire shit. he made images appear on broken monitors that weren't plugged in. he made a virus so powerful it instantly spread to every computer in town. it fucked up the radio, it fucked up the phone lines. you shouldn't just be able to do that- billy has a frightening amount of power.

3.5. a couple other scattered observations

3.5a in dietown, little billy immediately goes full eldritch. additionally, regular-timeline billy appears to be in some way aware of this, as his codename in the ransomware is xXBelothXx, little bel'oth being his name in dietown. worth noting dietown tracks are also used for the ransomware scenes.

3.5b color symbolism is extremely important in dialtown, chief among that being the use of purple (and green, but especially purple). all of the members of the mingling (save for god) have some element of purple in their designs- for most of them, that's clothing: stabby and shooty and abel all have their suits, bunny has his shirt, while theoroar has his bandana. billy's head is purple- the only one whose purple element is PART of them and not just something they're wearing. given the significance of purple in the rest of the game (glados voice) i just thought that was interesting

4. pulling it all together

so, what does this all mean?

well, dialtown's reality is in trouble. the constitution of dt's universe has been in trouble for a long time- hell, the wormhole existed even before the dialup. but i think it's safe to say that whatever fundamental rule of reality callum grabbed and fucked around with to enact the dialup in the first place has had knock-on effects for the stability of the timeline (remember that whole thing about how timelines have definitive starts and ends? yeah).

i believe billy is a symptom of this breakdown. when fabron is possessed he says "the big blink" is coming.. now, i don't know if billy is truly something From Beyond or if he's just some shithead kid who somehow got a glimpse into things people shouldn't see (i favor the latter, personally), but the way i see it.. i think what little billy calls colossal billy, is, or is closely related in some fashion to, enc0unter.

enc0unter is nothing. it's beyond the edge of the universe, all the Somethings, it's the opposite of things existing.

which, imo, is why it's represented by eyes, teeth, and faces.

when the dialup happened, eyes, teeth, faces- these things ceased to exist. they were deleted from reality, they became nothing, so that's why the nothing IS the eyes and teeth of everyone on earth, why it's eyes and teeth that appear where reality wears thin and begins to crack.

i don't know exactly what enc0unter is Doing, or what the culminating event, the bomb-under-the-table exploding, the big blink is going to actually look like. but i don't think it'll be good, and i think that billy is very interested in that eventuality.

now, billy's own personal motivations? pure malarkey. i don't think he's part of some big plan, or anything like that- his favorite activity is tormenting the cashier at the local cinema, and his big scary hackerman deal was intentionally foiled by just removing a usb stick from a computer. he sets the town on fire just for fun. little billy just wants to see the world burn for a laff, and i fear that when "the big blink" does come, that might be exactly what he gets.

firstoff, you've got Lister, who had a hopeless crush on Kochanski, friends that he went with and presumably didn't know very well beyond that. and THEN he gets stuck in deep space with a bunkmate he detests, a stranger that isn't even the same species as him, a computer, and a robot. (adding to this, he probably teaches Kryten how to break his programming, so he can have someone to actually connect with)

then, you've got Rimmer, who has never had a healthy relationship in his life, and although this is somewhat his own fault, it is clear he desperately needs someone. instead, he gets smegall

then you've got Cat, who was abandoned by his colony, simply because he wasn't cool enough. so, he tries to be cool around the crew, but he still doesn't get that connection with the rest of his species. then again, Lister is also the last of his kind, so it makes sense they bond later on

and you've got Kryten, who was so distraught when his crew died that he cared for their skeletons. presumably, he had been caring for them since the day they died, which is a smegging long time

anyway, i just think it's sad how alone they all were. no wonder they start to come together.

Imagine Neuv being too late to stop the transformation and Full Legacy is now in the court. You, following Childe around since before the Liyue Storm, try to hold down the Guardes and get a peaceful solution with both Legacy and Childe not ending in jail when one of the Guardes grab you and throw you to the floor. You land wrong on your shoulder - cue Legacy going wild.

On that note, they couldn't have been more obvious with the rain dragon...

Oh and I kinda guess Childe got convicted because of Legacy yk Abyss Taint = Evil but ofc we all know better 😂

you consider yourself a decent negotiator- Childe was always raring for battle and bloodshed, so you've had to mediate between him and another group plenty of times- but perhaps the clockwork meka have had an influence on the Guardes' approach, because they simply throw you to the ground, pinning you in place. you wince as your shoulder lets out an awful crunching sound, pain lashing at your nerves and veins, and you glare at the person holding you down with an irritated sigh- you know what's coming next

with an enraged roar the Guarde goes flying, Foul Legacy batting them away like they weigh nothing. he growls viciously at the rest of the audience, crouching over your body with a threatening hiss- but it fades the moment he looks down at you, transforming into a concerned whimper as he leans closer, gently licking your shoulder. a Guarde dares to take a step closer and Legacy snarls, baring his fangs as his fluff bristles in warning, and you have to bring your hand up to gently stroke his plated face to calm him down. you get to your feet with some difficulty, your shoulder aching painfully, and Legacy gently prods it with his claws, whining whenever you flinch. he hisses whenever anyone comes near, but handles you with only softness and worry, fussing over you for a few minutes and brushing dust away from your clothes. with a single swift motion he lifts you into his arms, cradling you carefully so you won't feel anymore pain

then he gives the strangers and friends watching you one final growl, and runs

Firstoff i made the design because of a handful of fics which i read and stupidly forgot to save . Namely the one where he died for alastor, angelic interference, and the one where they made a fuckup on the books. (Ill get back when i find their names) . I just wanted to make the design for the sake of it and try to make his looks fit heaven and also my interpretation of vox, so hes intended to look almost like a character youd see on an old tv show but a bit more suave. I also wanted a space age head because i mean thats The Period of innovation and while there were certainly similar designs while he was alive its more symbolic of progress than actual progress. Then my brain started doing its thing and when i start thinking about anything for more than five seconds i get a bunch of pins and red string and become a full blown theorist who needs to connect everything to worldbuilding or ill die

so. I started a fic and if you find it you find it :]

ANYWAY! CLAPS MY HANDS

my angel vox.

Point the first! this isnt a vox goes straight to heaven, its canon divergence. Vox dies, goes to hell, and at the peak of his messy hell career he dies again and goes to heaven. Vox is not redeemed.

2. Vox is powerless. Heaven equalises people. It has rules, a lot of rules, and these are sown straight into their reality which cant be broken. He does however have free will and a silver tongue.

3. I think vox and sera would get along surprisingly well when it came to it. Sera is a 'tough love' sort of character, and does believe shes doing good in spite of it all, and is willing to do lesser evils. Vox cares about nothing but numbers and outcomes. This means that if they share a goal a lot of their approaches would also be shared, and i think theyd be fond of that.

4. Vox despises heaven. Just the fundamental concept of it. He does enjoy a struggle and he does enjoy pain, thats the point of being alive to him. Or well. dead. Its an uphill battle but its his uphill battle to fight. Also he just needs something to keep him occupied at all given times or he might just snap #adhd

4a. He also hates the residents, mostly because of very well earned trust issues how its not fun to talk to any of them. They just say whatever theyre thinking, no song and dance, no fine print, and vox loves fine print and searching for hidden meanings.

5. Emily is nice and almost tolerable but he would absolutely throw her off a bridge if it benefited him without second thought. He hates how much of a bleeding heart she is, but that seems to be a trait of everyone up there

6. Vox's relationship with himself is a complex mess. It always has been and heaven made it worse. Not only did it revert his body to how it was when he first fell but Angel Edition, hes barely mechanical anymore- and while being a good part machine was all part of hells punishment at the start for various psyche reasons (as well as how inconvenient it was) he had grown to worship and love his inorganic nature, and how much better it was than his faulty body . I have headcanons about that but that falls under spoiler territory for Said Fic. But heaven handing him back his flesh and blood is a massive massive violation of his boundaries and the moment he stops and actually starts thinking about what the hell has happened hes gonna break

7. The vees think vox is dead dead. Angel!vox would... have a strained relationship if he were to meet like that. On one hand, hes vox! Their vox! But like this he can't be his usual overlord self and while he trusts them enough to view them as friends, he wouldn't be able to face them as partners like this; business or otherwise. Hes horribly powerless and they need him on his A game.

okkkkkkk so their kanto team. raichu and jolteon are pretty self explanatory i think. they are named sparks and pachinko respectively. i love kabutops a lot and i can totally see them reviving fossils - her name is slice cube. vileplume is just a sweet friend and probably heals up the team on journeys, her name is rafflesia. porygon little digital friend that lives in the computer!!! their name is bubblegum. and i think i need at least one flyer for each region so we got dragonite because i always dreamed of flying on one :) i don't know if they'd have the trainer skills to actually TRAIN UP from a dratini so catching it was probably some by chance connection. def the last mon they find in kanto. name is marmalade

alright so HERE'S where it gets a little silly, already i know :3 in johto they would absolutely not want to liek. take on gyms or battle anyone because it's such a nice sleepy region (and its rooted in my hatred for the level curve and how i would never replay this gen without rare candies). so all of their pokemon are funny little guys! pichu is actually their main pokemon entirely, her name is kougra and No One knows why she wont evolve, she loves everyone. dunsparce is simply just a silly little guy, i imagine lemoni carrying it around in their bag. his name is circe. sunflora god i love sunflora NO SUNFLORA HATE! her name is buddy and she is always pleasant. chinchou is just such a specimen, i bet itd always be in a state of confusion and wonder. its name is bibelot. skiploom my funny propellor, their name is sunbeam. and finally how could you go to johto without picking up the giraffe. absolute legend. their names are maca and tony

alola was the first games where i got actually obsessed with a pokemon other than raichu, and that pokemon was dartrix :) something about silly prim and proper bird makes me so happy. his name's hamilton. alolan raichu was made for ME (og raichu still solos but i love my pancake son) her name is meringue! poipole was my first full odds shiny hunt and i got it ridiculously fast. its name is skyler (that is my first sonas name.) alolan vulpix is a mon i have an oc of, her name is lily <3 mimikyu was also made for me this region has so many wonderful pikaguys. her name is pikaboo. pyukumuku isnt a mon i speak about a lot but it's just so funny to me can you blame me. its name is peacesign

GALAR BELOVED!!! this is the first one here where all of them are from my actual ingame team except for one.. now i know sylveon isnt a galarmon but i have one in swsh named sybil and he loves curry and being a mess of a creature. he has fallen into the currypot. the alcremie and hatterene are in love and their names are dairy queen and silly <3 rapidash is the lovely third wheel named moondancer. sobble, my starter which i adamantly refused to evolve no matter what, her name was sawble. yamper is the only one i didnt actually use but she is an oc! name is lemonbark. mean dog tbh

for paldea i don't have a full team because i have a paldea oc already and most of the mons i like the most are on there, BUT. lemoni can have little a slither wing as a treat. it (and volcaronas) shiny are nonbinary!!! so it's a shiny one. i imagine it just smacked into them and probably caused a concussion, its name is crunchwrap. hydrapple is actually coparented by n and lemoni, good apple dragon. n calls it by its legal name but lemoni calls it whatever petname they can think of. mostly honey.

What's the deal with Palworld?

Been seeing a lot of stuff floating around for the defense and the hatred of palworld, so I did some digging and put it here with my own two cents. In short: I have my reasons to be wary of it and won't buy it. It's up to you in the end if you wanna get it!

I went ahead and did said digging because I was having difficulty finding better sources for things that, other than my personal reasons for avoiding the game, were poorly sourced. So, here's the reasons I am avoiding buying it and I am wary of the developer. I know a lot of people aren't going to care about this at all, because at the end of the day the game is fun to a lot of folks. tl:dr there are reasons to be wary about the game but at the end of the day it's up to you. Firstoff, I personally was most worried about Palworld's direct predecessor (it is essentially the same game) on steam called Craftworld. It has been in early access for three years, and while people enjoyed it, I have personally been burned by a lot of early access games that wound up being abandonware nothingburgers, so that was a point against it in my eyes. This kinda boils down to some philosophical crap about like ' when is a game truly done?' The developer has talked positively about AI art, including having made a game -based- on AI art called AI art impostor. There is no direct evidence that game assets are generated by AI methods, but the designs being literally different pokemon parts smushed together is basically circumstantial but damming, along with the fact the developer talks about how only -one person- made all the pals. This ties back into the whole stealing designs from people thing. It is pretty clearly derivative of pokemon as a whole, but I guess it's up to you how much you would consider that 'parody' At the end of the day, there just aren't many, if -any- hard sources for a lot of this stuff other than circumstantial evidence and speculation, other than what is easily observed and my personal extreme mistrust of anything with the cursed 'early access' stamp on it. That, and the words of the developer itself.(https://note.com/pocketpair/n/n54f674cccc40) Link above, entirely Japanese and translated via browser but straight from the lion's mouth. So, there's what I got. What you do with the info is up to you I reckon. unfortunately all this boils down to there being like no hard evidence whatsoever, but I stated me case. <3

-shame abt the 17 stuff. imo its really fucking clear that the people in charge of f e as a whole hate the game for its more whimsical/shonen/super sentai tone of “friendship and understanding” and just want a cringey “angst” fest (aka angst that just excuses horrible characters) like 16 (and to be fair a lot of other things in the franchise too). but like imo its not the worst. the vas are clearly doing a good job and the artist too, and its cool and cute to see ivy in the game, even if its just a seasonal

-the others i dont rlly care abt. if i liked e ir at all i def dont after she screwed over an entire country and her presumable former friends there just because she found out her birth family’s world is a place she likes better. like its awful what she went through but imo she still killed a person for no reason when she couldve just told the truth, and even if it would have been painful she should have taken responsibility for her position. but whatever its very eh. and thats all my thoughts pretty much. actually suprised f jorm wasnt the duo but whatevs

-the new story/new oc: i was rooting for all 4 alfr to get resplendent/ect darn it! oh well. it looks like most likely peo and plumie will be the focus (which is good for me bc i love plumie but i wish tri would get good things too ; ; ) and hopefully tri and peo will actually get scenes together acknowledging their relationship as sisters (esp as it was alluded to in last years peo! gosh i hope so pls.) bc b4 screwed them over (esp tri) big time with its fruitless and nonsensical “plot twists”

-another thing that im really happy abt is that the temptri stories (except b3 for... reasons) tend to not involve the main cast of the game, which honestly is a breath of fresh air. b2′s one was horrendous bc of the dragons and the retcons, but it could have been so much worse. 3′s too if im being honest. e irs obsession w the main cast is... very regrettable but also understandable, so it wasnt too much detracting imo. im just hoping they keep this up with b4 and dont fucking involve those horrible and ridiculous “plot twists” from book 4. can we please just fucking forget any shitty changeling stories/plotlines in any media ever pls. (except m l p. youre cool you can stay. cough cough unrealistic expectations for this kind of story cough cough)

-that being said plumie + peo is hilarious and sweet. plumie calling her a little petal or something is so funny/cute. and my kasuplumie shipper heart is like “aw plumie took up nicknaming people from kasumi!” like this is character development done right take notes b2 temptri. i think itll be really wholesome if they do end up being the ascendants for this year, seeing them become friends. i would have liked tri but i feel like it also fits as the two of them are the more active of their groups (mira is really passive, and i feel like tri is more distant than aggressive like plumie is). so plumie being super jaded and scornful + peo being really caring with no strings attached and self sacrificing will be really wholesome to see if it comes to pass

-new character: interesting that theyre a rearmed but ok saitama face. people are saying maybe 4/5 next but i feel like it could be 17 (and add less royalty characters- maybe one of the younger siblings, the player character, side characters/enemy only? morion pls im politely asking). i think the best case scenario is theyre the queen from the past, that would be wholesome to have her actually meet kind friends in the alfr. kinda like another character i dont really have anything against her when she was a child- she kidnapped and forced children to work for her just bc they were poor and from a bad home life as an adult, but as a child she was abused by her peers and only treated well by her brother bc he wanted to marry her off to them. like her actually meeting nice people and getting standards would be great but idk if itll happen.

-also just fucking release that dirtbag in the next mythic. just let the memes die. im sick of this guy and ive been sick of him for years. glad hes not much plot relevant.

tldr the good news is i get to save orbs bc i spent them all on not getting shez wooo (sarcasm) (also donny is so pure im so glad hes the free unit!!!! get hype!!!)
