Bij handmatige tellen kan er wel onderscheid gemaakt worden tussen staafkernige en segmentkernige neutrofiele granulocyten.

Cytokines​ are a broad and loose category of small ​proteins​ ​(5-20 kDa molecular weight) ​important in ​cell signaling​, particularly in the regulation of immune system responses to infection and inflammation. Cytokines​ are ​peptides​ and cannot cross the ​lipid bilayer​ of cells to enter the ​cytoplasm​. They communicate by signaling through cell surface receptors. Cytokines have been shown to be involved in autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine signaling pathways. ​Although secreted, cytokines are not considered to be hormones. ​There are several families of cytokines expressed in humans and other vertebrates and can act powerfully as individual molecular reagents although most often exert their influence combinatorially in multiple interactions c depending on the context in which they are expressed. ​The different types of cytokines, e.g., interferons, interleukins, lymphokines, chemokines, and tumor necrosis factors can act alone, work together, or work antagonistically in modulating a combinatorial response. Cytokines exert their influence on cells via cognate cell-surface receptors in either a paracrine fashion, i.e., by binding to receptors on other nearby cells, or in an autocrine mode, i.e., binding to receptors on the cell that secreted them.

Innate immunity is the initial immune response to infectious agents, carried out mainly by​ granulocytes and macrophages. These include a variety of responses that are genetically hard-wired to mount a quick response to families of molecules common to classes of pathogens. Adaptive (or acquired) immunity creates immunological memor​y after an initial response to a specific pathogen, leading to an enhanced response to subsequent encounters with that same pathogen. IJMS, Vol. 23, Pages 14277: Tumor Cell Capture Using Platelet-Based and Platelet-Mimicking Modified Human Serum Albumin Submicron Particles
The co-localization of platelets and tumor cells in hematogenous metastases has long been recognized. Interactions between platelets and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) contribute to tumor cell survival and migration via the vasculature into other tissues. Taking advantage of the interactions between platelets and tumor cells, two schemes, direct and indirect, were proposed to target the modified human serum albumin submicron particles (HSA-MPs) towards tumor cells. HSA-MPs were constructed by the Co-precipitation–Crosslinking–Dissolution (CCD) method. The anti-CD41 antibody or CD62P protein was linked to the HSA-MPs separately via 1-ethyl-3-(-3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) EDC/NHS chemistry. The size of modified HSA-MPs was measured at approximately 1 µm, and the zeta potential was around −24 mV. Anti-CD41-HSA-MPs adhered to platelets as shown by flowcytometry and confocal laser scanning microscopy. In vitro, we confirmed the adhesion of platelets to tumor lung carcinoma cells A549 under shearing conditions. Higher cellular uptake of anti-CD41-HSA-MPs in A549 cells was found in the presence of activated platelets, suggesting that activated platelets can mediate the uptake of these particles. #RNA-seq data in the #cancer Cell Lineage Encyclopedia (CCLE) and The #cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database showed the expression of CD62P ligands in different types of #cancers. Compared to the non-targeted system, CD62P-HSA-MPs were found to have higher cellular uptake in A549 cells.
