#Fly River softshell turtle

The large compound island of New Guinea, and adjacent, tropical areas of Australia, are home to a remarkable turtle species, that is an outlier in at least four ways - its lack of close living relatives, its location, and its locomotion. This is the pig nosed or Fly River softshell turtle, also known as the pitted shell turtle, and Carettochelys insculpta. This curious freshwater turtle is now a common zoo exhibit, and occurs in the pet trade especially as cute juveniles, although it's size and cruising habit, make it problematic as a pet turtle. Fortunately care of C. insculpta is very well understood, and not problematic other than their requirement for living space.
C. insculpta is the only living Catettochelys species that is recognized. Very large individuals of this species reportedly have a carapace length of nearly 60 centimeters, or 24 inches. Yet more commonly they are around 25 centimeters, or 14 inches. In New Guinea this species is found only in the southern lowlands of the island, whereas in Australia it is found in Northern Territory. The exact distribution of C. insculpta is uncertain as regards both New Guinea and Australia, but the species is limited to the tropics.
The size of T. insculpta varies by geographical origin, with those from the Kikori area weighing 10 kilograms more than those from the Daly River. In spite of this, no morphological evidence has been presented to justify supposed subspecies distinctions. The great similarity between New Guinea and Northern Territory Carettochelys turtles, and their limited Australian distribution, indicate they dispersed to Australia from New Guinea at some time during the Quarternary.
Carettochelys are found in rivers and streams with soft bottoms and slow currents. Such habitats are rich in leaf litter and wood debris. They are also present in still water bodies in New Guinea. Hatchling Carettochelys can be found in New Guinea river deltas, but as adults they are migrated upstream. Australian populations do not frequent estuaries at all, and are thus more strictly freshwater. These Australian Catettochelys have more habitat available in the wet season, when they are able to move into nearby creeks, and exploit flooded floodplain environments.
Oftentimes people object that Caretrochelys are not true softshells, on the grounds that they are not members of the trionychid clade, that is named for Trionyx, an African softshell turtle. But Catettochelys is their definite sister, and together with the trionychids, they comprise the clade Trionychia. The first trionychians were already softshells, and the morphological status as softshell is inherited by both Carettochelys and its trionychid sisters.
The presence of a northern type turtle, like Catettochelys, in the Australasian realm is a bit of an enigma. Although there are no longer native carettochelyids in the northern hemisphere today, ancestral carettochelyids during the Eocene epoch, appear to have exclusively inhabited northern continents. Therefore ancestral Catettochelys must have reached island Australasia prior to their extinction in Asia. It is not known when carettochelyids arrived in Australasia, and there is currently only one species.
Some other New Guinea turtles, that are members of the trionychid group, are also of Asian affinities. All other Quarternary turtles in New Guinea and Australia, are either pleurodires or meiolaniids. Both these clades are descended from ancestors that were present since the breakup of Gondwana in the Cretaceous and Early Palaeogene. Northern type turtles in Australasia are much more recent arrivals in Australasia, and they are limited to the northern continental mainlands.
Australia has a well deserved reputation for her unique animal life, having evolved in isolation from those of their inhabited continents. However her isolation has not been total, and as she has been carried north towards Asia by forces below the earth's shallow crust, new kinds of animals have arrived on her shores from Asia, including murid rodents, and agamid and varanid lizards.
Although the biota and ecology of Australasia is distinct from that of Asia today, there is overlap between the animal and plant life of these continents, despite the lack of land connections between the continental masses of 'Sundaland' and 'Sahulland'. In fact the climate is an effective barrier, with drier and more season climates in eastern Indonesia, working with the sea to separate the rainforests on the Sunda shelf from those on New Guinea.
Climate zones within Australia largely limit New Guinean faunal and floral components, which include more Asiatic elements than those of Australia, to the north of Australia. The fauna and flora of which, cannot easily be demarcated apart from those of southern New Guinea. Indeed two land bridges across the present Torres Strait, had connected the island continents during the Pleistocene, during which time the sea levels were lower, allowing migration between what are now discontinuous land masses.
Although Catettochelys is unrelated to Holocene sea turtles, it swims with an unusual motion intermediate between the fore and aft rowing of typical, plesiopodal freshwater turtles, such as the red eared slider, and hydropodal sea turtles that swim by employing vertical strokes, or underwater flight. Like the sea turtles, Catettochelys makes more use of its deltoideus muscle in its swimming stroke, creating better forces of lift that facilitate pelagic abilities.
These turtles are quite catholic omnivores, consuming both plant and animal food resources, but their feeding habits become increasingly vegetarian as they mature. They feed extensively on tropical fruits such as Ficus, Sonneratia, and Nypa, that fall into the water where Carettochelys feed, and they also consume a broader diversity of waterside and aquatic plant material, such as the eelgrass Valisneria and algae.
Their aquarium diet should therefore include algae wafers and fresh fruits and vegetables, such as banana, melon, and lettuce. Dried preparations can be fed to these turtles, but it is much preferable to choose those with a rather low protein content. Usually they prefer to eat at the bottom so sinking pellets are a better choice than floating sticks. They will also readily eat defrosted and fresh meaty items. Respecting their omnivory, their diet should be varied and its vegetable component should make up about 2/3 of the diet of adult Carettochelys.
The animal prey that are consumed by Carettochelys are benthic and slow moving, including snails and crayfishes. Therefore these turtles are not suited for sharing an environment with hard shelled potential prey. They are also likely also to consume some aquarium plants. Vertebrates are said only to be eaten as carrion, but opportunistic predation on small, slow or sleeping fish cannot be excluded, because this is normal benthivorous turtle behavior.
Although they are active and efficient midwater swimmers, Carettochelys are foragers and not hunters. Fishes that are significantly larger than their heads will be safe. This species is also peaceable towards other turtles, and is often housed in zoos alongside Australasian pleurodires, of the genera Chelodina, Elseya, and Emydura. Indeed Catettochelys is by now a very popular species in mixed species exhibits, having a good tolerance of other animals, and being much easier to accommodate than are marine turtles.
Im spite of this overall good tolerance, Carettochelys males can actually be aggressive to one another, and in horny condition can harass females with tail biting behavior. Rarely males can be aggressive towards other turtle species, and even fish sharing their environment, but this is a statistical tail end effect, and cannot be considered typical. Usually it is sufficient not to cohabit two males together.
The morphology of the Catettochelys humerus is most similar to that of the trionychids, yet it's shape is convergent upon that of sea turtles. Overall the forelimbs are more efficient hydrofoils than is normal for a freshwater turtle, although they still walk and swim using an alternate coordination of all four limbs, despite being well capable of a graceful, penguin-like underwater flight using the forelimbs alone.
Compared to the trionychid sister clade, Catettochelys possesses elongated autopodia, making the forelimb a functioning underwater 'wing'. This elongation is already described in the extinct, northern hemisphere carettochelyids, but it is thought to be unique among all of the non-marine turtles. The swimming style of Carettochelys gives it an advantage when competing against pleurodire turtles, because it is useful for finding food in low energy environments. The mystery is why no turtles swim like this today, in the tropical rivers of the Congo, Amazonia, or Southeast Asia.
Catettochelys even possesses salt glands, but they are degenerated, like those of the gharial Gavialis, a riverine crocodilian descended from marine ancestors. However it is not resident in brackish environments as an adult, and should be regarded as a truly freshwater turtle. This species visits estuaries only to nest on sandbanks, before returning upstream as they grow. Some Carettochelys juveniles reside in brackish water with salinities up to 21 ppt, or a specific gravity of 1.015.
Often animals and plants that outlive their relatives, in the sense of the geological timescale, have shifted to novel environments. Like the gharial, and the South Asian, Chinese, and Amazon river 'dolphins', of middle Cenozoic origins, Carettochelys appears to represent the phenomenon of atypical, freshwater subclades surviving longer that their marine cousins.
Depending on the location and the time of the year, Carettochelys in the wild may experience an approximate spectrum of pH from 6.5 to 8.5, although the average pH in the river channels is surely 7 to 8. During the wet months, when Catettochelys make use of flooding to access the floodplain, the water pH is lower, despite the strange but widely circulated claim online, that Catettochelys requires hard, alkaline water parameters.
The water temperature in river channel environments is in the middle and upper 20s degrees centigrade. In floodplain habitats the temperature may seasonally reach the upper 30s. If they are maintained at brackish salinities, which is not necessary, the specific gravity should not reach 1.02, and they will still need to drink freshwater, as do marine snakes and birds with functioning salt glands, that still drink rainwater.

Leo and Donnie are playing Minecraft together. Though the audience is watching Leo's POV.
Their models are in casual graphic shirts, flannel button downs and bandanas. Leo's shirt has a space unicorn, and Donnies shirt has a softshell turtle holding a knife with 'I'm Harmless, I swear".
"So, with Thanksgiving, and Black Friday coming up, I regret to inform you. That I am banned from going out to shop in person. They say smugly." Donnie says, for some reason proud of himself.
Leo just shakes his head, "Dee almost became known as a crazy shopper. Thankfully they were with Red, and purposefully kept away from the more crazy areas."
Leo is seen flying while pulling a couple Villagers in a boat, before landing near where Donnie is setting up a villager farm.
Around the area is multiple farms, both automated and not. With also a large Turtle Sanctuary along the nearby river.
"Bring those two over to the office building. Now the true reason I am not allowed to go out, is because someone attempted to take what I had obtained. So I may have pulled a taser out and lightly threatened anyone who got near me." Donnie explains while bouncing around the redstone and rails that make up the mechanics for their farm.
"Be glad that the security working that day were understandably very I don't give a-" Leo stops before he says what was likely not PG-13, "Even though by technically I could say the phrase, but some people don't like us using 'foul language'. Like I haven't been cursing under my breath in like 5 different languages."
"That can count as an Easter Egg, try to find which vods Blue is using foul Language. There isn't a prize, except bragging rights." Donnie announces while sprinting past Leo and smaking him with a neatherite shovel.
Leo who is very used to this just fires an arrow at Donnie in retaliation. Just barely missing an Iron Golem that his twin purposefully ran close too.
"Anywhozzle! Yeah, some of the security was just so done, they didn't bother with Dee. Just told him to check out and get out. Dee isn't banned from the store either, just told to leave." Leo says while shaking his head.
The two of them get the villagers into the 'Office Building' that will be their Villager Trading Center. Double checking that they can't get out of the building.
The two spend a good bit of time finishing the redstone, while replying to notifications, and occasionally getting a small startle from sound redemptions.
They were being asked about other reasons they can't go out on Black Friday, at least part of the answer was, "Buying things online is just slightly more convenient. Though there are a couple places that don't do deliveries, that we send April to pick up for us."
Then the conversation switched to Thanksgiving, and the spread Mikey was going to be making along side the family friends who are going to join them.
----------------------
Masterpost
I wanted to mention that they don't really do Black Friday aka the weirdest huge discount days of the year, because of economic reasons.
And Donnies cain instinct is at least part of why they don't.
Though the visual of the Turtles in baggy clothes fighting off random people for the most random deals, is pretty darn funny.

I am super glad the word turtle was helpful! But I want to explain turtles a little bit. I'm not an expert, but I do know turtles vs tortoises. It's a "all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are square" situation. Turtle is the umbrella term.
Tortoises ARE turtles. But tortoises are exclusively land turtles. They cannot swim at all. But they are still turtles. You can generally recognize them by their highly domed shell and elephant-like feet. They're the least aerodynamic, and can get pretty heavy.

---
Aquatic turtles, primarily sea turtles, are functionally the opposite. They are designed for aquatic living, as their flippers are not ideal for land. Their shells are mostly smooth, and they're more streamlined/flat than tortoises. Sea turtles will go to land only to lay eggs. They don't even leave the water to bask(except the Green Sea Turtle, which is odd). The Fly River turtle is probably the only freshwater example I know of.

---
Semi-aquatic turtles are probably the most common and most varied. You find them in ponds, rivers, in the road, etc. They often have smooth shells and streamlined bodies, but not always. Some favor land, some favor water. Box turtles favor land, but are able to swim if necessary, unlike tortoises. Soft shell turtles are primarily adapted for water, but not to the level of sea turtles.
Some semi-aquatic examples:
Red Eared Slider: a popular species for pets. Primarily aquatic. Good swimmer. Often found in ponds. Tend to be invasive.

---
Box turtle: primarily terrestrial, can fully enclose into its shell. Not quite a tortoise.

---
Softshell turtle: primarily aquatic. Likes to bury itself in sand or mud. Fast swimmer. Strongly webbed feet. Pancake shaped. Snorkel nose. Surprisingly long neck. Aggressive.

---
Common and Alligator Snapping turtles: Primarily aquatic. Tend to walk along the bottom of the pond or river rather than swim. Big. Bite hard.

I am never going to complain about Greek Duolingo again
I mean, I am. But still.
So, as some of you know, my family has been coming to this tiny Greek seaside village for several years. Just over a week ago I came out here with my mum, under the impression that early September, after the height of the summer heat, would be a good time to have a holiday. ANYWAY Storm Daniel had other ideas about that. Locally things are improving (I'm actually really pissed off about the disaster-porn tone of most English-language media coverage, but that's another post). The power is back on, there's running water most of the time, and though the latter is not drinkable, a truck from the government came and handled out free bottled water yesterday. But we are currently kind of stuck. Can't do tourist things. Can't go home. There aren't any local flights out until Saturday and the road to Thessaloniki is still closed.
So this evening, feeling kind of aimless and depressed, I go down to the nearest beach with a couple of binbags and start cleaning up in an effort to at least do something positive. I always try to do this at least once out here and obviously, after the storm, there's a lot more plastic and rubbish than usual.
At some point I find this large, round bit of metal - some kind of machinery part, I think -- that's too big for the bag, so I take it to the bins on its own, leaving the rubbish bag on the beach. And when I come back for it, something among the stones beside it moves.
Specifically, it pulls its head sharply inside its shell

So, meanwhile I've been trying to learn some Greek with the help of Duolingo.
I currently have a 33-day streak and... I have questions. Shouldn't I be able to use the past or future tenses by now? Shouldn't I be able to say "x is like y"? I can't do those things. But one thing I absolutely can say all day long is έχω μια χελώνα : I have a turtle.
This is far from the limit of Duolingo Greek's turtle-related content. "An obsession with turtles" is my mother's characterisation. I can inform you that the turtle is not a bird, and, improbably, that the turtle is drinking milk. I can introduce you to a turtle in company with a horse and an elephant. As far as Duolingo is concerned, it really is turtles all the way down.

Now this, you may be able to see, is not a turtle. It has claws rather than flippers. It is a tortoise. I know there are wild tortoises in Greece: my aunt once rescued a pair of them shagging in the middle of the road -- but that was up in the mountains. I've even seen one myself, but it was also on a road and very dead.
I am 95% certain they don't belong on beaches. There's nothing for it to eat, except, unfortunately, a lot of plastic. Even if it gets off the beach it will immediately find itself on a road where it could get hit by a car. I'm pretty sure it must have been washed down by the floodwater and has been just sitting there, dazed, ever since.
Now obviously the first thing I want to do on encountering this unusual animal is to go and tell my mummy, so I do. The tortoise immediately brightens her day. She agrees that the tortoise is not happy on the beach and needs to be taken somewhere safe. it gets surprisingly wriggly when picked up so we put it in a carrier bag with some grapes and cucumber and go looking for somewhere to rehome it.
We find a path leading up between the houses towards a likely-looking field, but before we get very far a dog in a yard goes berserk and a man's head pops over a fence and demands to know what we're doing. He does this in English, as evidently we're just that obviously tourists.
"I found a tortoise on the beach!" I explain. "We want to find somewhere to put it."
"A what," he asks.
"It's like a, you know," I begin and then to my astonishment I find myself saying... "μια χελώνα"
"Oh! A turtle!" he says.
"But from the land. δεν είναι χελώνα", [it is not a turtle,] I say, as I am worried he will tell me to put it back near the sea where I found it. As it turns out it actually IS a χελώνα, Greek does not distinguish between turtles and tortoises, but I don't know that; I can't even name the days of the week or identify any colours other than pink yet, give me a break.
The man's entire demeanour changes and thaws. He does not worry about my turtle-that-is-not-a-turtle conundrum. He knows where οι χελώνες come from and where η χελώνα μας belongs. He leads us through a gate into a courtyard area.
"[somethingsomething] μια χελώνα," he explains to the assembled onlookers, of whom there are, suddenly, a surprising number.
"ΜΙΑ ΧΕΛΩΝΑ!!!" crows the throng of delighted small children, who are, suddenly, everywhere.
"μια χελώνα!" I agree, accepting that at least for current purposes, that is what it is.
"Μπορούμε να δούμε τη χελώνα σας; [can we see your turtle?]" asks an adorable little girl, shyly, and I understand??
The children fucking love looking at the χελώνα and showing it to them is kind of magical?
I finally put the tortoise down on the grass of this wild area off to the side of the courtyard, and marvel aloud that it is weird that I barely know any Greek except how to say μια χελώνα.
"I think she will soon run off," a kind lady called Aspasia assures me, seeing I remain slightly anxious about its fate. "I don't know why I'm saying 'she'. I suppose because χελώνα is feminine in Greek."
"Yes! I know that!" I exclaim, thrilled.
"Well done!" she says. And also she asks if we are OK for drinking water after the storm and if we need any help with anything and is just generally incredibly lovely and now we know more of the neighbours!
So "μια χελώνα" has just become, by a long way, my most-used and most understood and all-around most conversationally successful phrase in Greek. So I guess I have to admit I was wrong to doubt Duolingo's wisdom: it is correct to be obsessed with turtles. And I concede that prior to learning how to count to ten or to distinguish right from left, the simple ability to yell the word TURTLE over and over again is, it turns out, a crucial element of the responsible traveller's social skills.
(I am pretty fluent in Italian and turtles haven't come up in conversation even once?)

Pig-Nosed Turtle Time? Pig-Nosed Turtle Time!
Winner of Most Boopable Turt Snoot Since Ever, the pig-nose turtle! Also known as the Fly River turtle or the pitted-shell turtle!
Only living member of the family Carettochelyidae! Very close to softshell turtles, but not quite!
Native to Australia and New Guinea! Friend from Down Under!
Unless you mess with home territory, then... grump!
Very mysterious sometimes, needs research, but we do know some things! Like they sometimes gather around hydrothermal vents in the cooler seasons!
Also, they can grow to be 50 pounds and more than 22 inches long! So very shaped!
Snoot is a powerful sensory organ! Helps this friend hunt when the water gets too murky!
Very flexible eater! Can eat fish, figs, crustaceans, seeds, even carrion!
Has very small range, and is in decline in some places in Australia! People don't like when they eat bait, but others like them for pets, both kinds of people lower the population of a vulnerable turt!
Happy to still have turt friend around! Please support turtle conservation!

in a Egyptian Pokémon region, the starters would be based on a snake, (the fire starter) a crane, (the grass starter) and a hippo. (The water starter) what do you think?
Ooh this is a really cool ask OP thank you
Here are my ideas for an Egypt based region:
Obviously we want some kind of wadjet snake pokemon and a crocodile and a hippo bc those are very prominent animals in Egyptian mythology, so right on with that. But I wanted to use animals that were sacred in a positive light (ones that weren't respected partly out of fear) as inspiration for the starter pokemon (because all of those above have certain negative connotations even if they also have good ones). So my choice of starters would be:
Jackal (fire/ghost)
Cow/ram/gazelle fusion (grass/rock)
Ibis (water/flying)
I had other starter ideas but unfortunately they were too conceptually similar to other extant pokemon (a cat fire type or a lion fire type; a primate grass type, a fire/flying bird of prey, etc.)
Stuff I would like to see in this region:
Camel pokemon (lankier than camerupt and rideable), maybe with some giraffe mixed in
Giant "Giza sphinx" type stature except it's based on the jackal starter bc originally what we know irl as the Sphinx of Giza was actually a jackal statue that got damaged enough on the head that they had to recarve the head into something smaller and without a long face (which is why it is so disproportionate to the body size)
Large desert areas that really push the player to their limit (the trickery of the desert area in SuMo comes to mind; sort of like ORAS but replace the water with sand) with beautiful oases dotting the map
Scarab pokemon
A fairy/water or water/ghost mirage pokemon that, similar to ditto, can appear as a pokemon it's not, but, like minior or mimikyu, drops its disguise after getting hit
Toad pokemon
Really hype up the legendaries for this region. Like really make their presence loom over the whole game so they don't feel like trophy hunting prizes at the end. Make them HARD to catch
Rhino pokemon
More puzzles! I miss puzzles!
Sphinx pokemon (maybe absol regional variant?)
Make me afraid of ghost pokemon again
Huge open marketplace area in late game major city areas
Aardwolf pokemon, or maybe a hyena one
Lots of hidden/secret areas--caves, mines, tombs, etc; a hidden oasis or one that's location/entrance constantly changes
A dark type pokemon with long ears and a split tail, based on whatever the fuck aesthetic Set was going for
Big river leading to delta and sea areas; a big contrast between this wet fertile landscape versus the arid desert it's surrounded by. Fun marsh areas with wading birds and water lilies, lots of reeds
An actual underground river maze beneath a pyramid/large tomb, filled with scary pokemon late into the game based on the hazardous initial journey to the afterlife and also the irl Colossus of Memnon maze/labyrinth and the maze of Amenemhet, which would lead you to a legendary. Would also have very strong giant water/dark snake pokemon in it (psuedo-legendary maybe)
SUCCULENT POKEMON
Bring back seasons and weather you cowards. It wouldn't be as hard to implement for a desert region!!
Crocodile/lion/hippo fusion pokemon based on Ammut (water/dark)
Large irrigated fields with different crops that attract different pokemon (special grass and tall grass, like how there are special flower colors for bushes)
Make incense more prominent like give it uses as a field item, such as attracting specific pokemon types, instead of it just being a hold item
Have berry trees you can plant at the oases. Make it big again like in ORAS. You could create an incense crafting mechanic that uses them, along with use in the cooking minigame they're introducing in gen 8
Softshell turtle pokemon
Touchscreen drawing game where you replicate glyph patterns to activate or unlock certain things
More interesting water pokemon that are viable competitively
Quail pokemon
More cool pokemon that hide in the sand like lizards, spiders, snakes, desert foxes, etc.
Return of rideable mudsdale
More unique *plant* pokemon that aren't just animals that have, like, some leaves taped to them
Bring back sky battles
Area in the sea similar to Cleopatra's sunken palace with ruins to explore using dive
More new cat pokemon (QUADRAPEDAL PLEASE)
GIVE US SOME NEW POKEBALLS!! And make other pokeball designs more easily accessible!
ELECTRIC JERBOA POKEMON
Boat and chariot/ride pokemon races!
BRING BACK MEGA EVOLUTIONS
All different temples dedicated to different pokemon/themes
Make it a point to reward the player for not robbing people's graves. Reward the player for respecting the dead/the native culture and making offerings at the various temples. You could make it so that giving offerings to different temples gave you different temporary bonuses like how O-powers worked. Hell you could have one that just increases your luck both in battles and encounters.
MAKE THE VILLIAN TEAM A BUNCH OF WHITE COLONIAL/IMPERIALISTS ASSHOLES THAT ARE TRYING TO STEAL AS MANY CULTURAL ARTIFACTS AS THEY CAN. And/or a doomsday cult sort of like the one in The Mummy, with a corresponding small organization dedicated to stopping them

Text
The guys are sitting around a large table that has a long grill through the middle, with a couple metal plates on some parts that act as griddles. The table seems to be on a rooftop somewhere, but the skyline is blocked by canvas sheets painted to look like a New York City Skyline.
The guys are all dressed in color coded shorts, their masks, and shirts with different graphics on them. Raph = an Aligator Snapping Turtle holding a barbell in its mouth wearing sweatbands, Donnie = Reboot Process Interrupted Current Mood: Murderous, Leo = a turtle covered ing glitter with a unicorn horn on its head, Mikey = I have a Psychology Degree and am Eager to Use It! (Threat).
They were having Yakiniku, with a few other things on the grills and griddles, chatting among eachother, and answering questions from the chat. On one end Mikey was experimenting with 'steam baking' a cake on the griddle.
Shelldon is flying around the area announcing the questions, while River is in stand-by/sleep mode on a box in the back charging. Shelldon is also acting as a speaker playing music as he floats around.
"So we had to send someone to grab some more ingredients, the poor new guy was so confused by the list, so I volunteered to go with him." Mikey says as he checks his experiment, "This guy apparently never went shopping in the marketplace before, and I swear he almost overpaid on ingredients, so many times. Senior Hueso gave us a budget, and I wanted to make sure we stuck to it."
Shelldon swerves around next to Donnie, "Hey Dad, TechnoTurtle, wants to know how you have so many 3D models in such a short amount of time. Got any answers Dude-Dad?"
Donnie was in the middle of eating so it took a minute for them to answer, "Well to be honest, I have planned to make numerous games with 3D models in the past, and then lost interest for various reasons. So I had all the Models saved on a spare memory bank." They pause to take a sip of their drink, "And before we get a question about the many outfits, I left some odd videogame clothes/costume data attached to the models so it's very easy to add new outfits. Think of our Models as videogame avatars instead of VTuber models. Also I don't know what programs others normally use for making VTuber models, Mandarin and I have been using a mix of my programs, and some free to use art programs."
Mikey is seen moving his cake experiment to a counter near the table to cool under a netted cube, "I may have made our original model concepts, and done some minor rigging for them, but once we discovered the mix of programming we use now, yeah definitely better for us. I may love doing art, but making models for VTubing was more complicated than I wanted to deal with." Mikey quickly grabs a few pieces of meat and veggies from the grill with tongs, "Heck, once I told everyone I designed our models, I had to emphasize on my commission page that I don't do models. But I have been making 2D, 2.5D model Assets, with a wide variety of skin tones, and even different species variants." Mikey says with some pride in his voice.
Leo was about to say something, but stopped to stare as Donnie starts to eat a sandwich, he made with grilled meats and veggies, whole. It wasn't an unusual sight for the guys, but it's been a while since he last saw Donnie do this. And that's not to mention the audience who are all very confused and concerned by this.
"I don't know why I'm surprised to see you eat like that Dee, but Wow. I forgot you could-" Leo paused for a sec, "That almost came out very wrong. And not in a way I would want to say."
Sadly some of the audience was able to pick up on the almost innuendo, thankfully they didn't mention it in chat, but they did make memes out of the clip.
Donnie looked at Leo with great offense after finishing his sandwich. "Annoyed Huff. Rude. Dear Brother, you can not fault me for my softshell instincts!" They say with a huff and crossed arms. Their tail seen whipping around behind them.
Raph just lets out a sigh with a shake of his head. "You two are always so chaotic with eachother. But you're my knucklehead brothers." He uses some custom chopsticks to flip the meat he put on the grill before eating it after a few seconds.
The stream goes on with more chatting, and eating, though after a bit of time they're joined by April, Cass, and CJ. With a note that their Dads are on vacation, to get away from some the guys chaotic antics recently.
The chaotic antics in question were not mentioned, much to the audiences great disappointment.
--------------------
Masterpost
This was at least partly my original idea for their 4th of July post, but I decided that the guys would rather just enjoy the festivities instead of streaming the entire time.
And yes Donnie is swallowing the sandwich whole. I just realized how wrong/weird it sounds to describe that hence the 'unspoken innuendo' line.
