One of the most underrated Danish artist I have come across, is Kay Nielsen, 1886-1957. Kay was the child of 2 Danish actors, and became an illustrator himself. Visiting Paris, London, New York and settling in Los Angeles, he tried to write about fairytales, mythology and anything in-between. His style is reminisced of the jugendstilen, from which his works get a very unique and special touch. Personally, I relate him a lot to the Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, 1951-, whose style gives the same dreamy feeling. Nielsens works are mostly seen in books like East of The Sun - West of The Moon, however he also worked on the section in the Disney film Fantasia, involving Night on Bald Mountain. Properly most obscure, he also had some illustrations in erotic novels, that´s increasingly hard to find today. Here´s a small pick for some of my favorite illustrations form this amazing, underrepresented artist. Read more about Kay Nielsen here:

”Music has always been present, from when I formed my consciousness in the womb to present day. While my womb brother clung against our mother’s spine I pressed against the walls of her embrace, listening. Listen to all the spectres of emotions, to the tune of the very soul. What people hear as just noise, I see colors and shapes. Dancing in a mad rythm, making your soul burn, your mind break and your heart burst. They say it is impossible for me to reach the stars, but only mere fools would give up. My teacher gave me my ear, gave me my foundation to my castle. So I play my music, I will let my blood coat my strings if I so have to. I will invite you to my danse macabre, to the dance of old forgotten times. Dancing to the strings of my violin. So dance and sing, until the stars burn out. Come to my danse macabre.”
Well, I was on a roll this evening and drew the previous character’s twin. Who is heavily inspired by old folkmyths of people who was taught to play the violin by Näcken, a water spirit, and causing people to dance either to death or until their legs are mere bloody stump. Also did play the violin a lot as young and highly enjoy violin music to this day. -scurries off-

Hessonite, Kunzite, Petrified Wood !!
hessonite: what is a current goal of yours?
put more time and effort into music, writing, basically any creative endeavors, get better at guitar, learn to use pro tools
practice witchy things more - like i wanna get into doing actual rituals and stuff rather than how i currently just sorta vaguely influence things around me with my intent whether conscious of it at the time or not
stop panicking so much about my future to the point where i shut down and do nothing productive - actually get college applications done, do schoolwork, focus on doing shit i need to do and not be quite so off in my own little world all the time
kunzite: what grounds you?
being around the very few people i can let my guard down with, listening to either music i’ve heard a million times or really intense breakcore kinda stuff (specifically this if i really need to be like, jarred back into reality), taking long walks with no specific destination, taking hot showers or baths
petrified wood: do you remember any of your past lives?
sometimes in short flashes and dreams, not in a way that really makes sense. and pretty often something will just resonate with me in way that i know i’ve experienced it before even though i haven’t in this life. there is a place that keeps coming to me, like sometimes i’ll just space out and visualize myself there and i feel like that’s something important as well
