Another break from the book and another Halloween drawing. I was working on the book and watching the Muppet Show on Disney+ when I got a bit distracted. In episode 2 of season 2 Statler and Waldorf decide to watch television instead of the show being presented on the stage. They mention that they are watching Beach Blanket Frankenstein. While that was a throwaway joke it made me wonder what the poster for that movie might look like so here is my interpretation of it.

The Final Days of Funicello
The Final Days of Funicello
Annette Funicello (1942-2013) would have been 80 years old today if not for her sad, early death a decade ago. Teenage stardom and early retirement due to illness means that she’ll forever be associated with youth culture; we’ll never know what a Granny Annette, or to coin a term, a “Grannette” would have been like in the movies. Raised in Southern California, Funicello first came to fame as the…

September 1991. Once again, the TANK GIRL COLOUR CLASSICS is spotty on bibliographic stuff, but I think this Tank Girl poster is half of the fold-out from the poster magazine included with DEADLINE #33. (I know Tank Girl has always been about style over substance, but somebody's gotta keep track of this stuff.)

Movie poster by an unknown artist, distributed by the National Screen Service (#64/117), for the 1964 American-International Pictures feature film Muscle Beach Party. Peter Lorre had a small part in the film. It was his penultimate picture, and he died two days before it was released. This was 13-year-old Stevie Wonder's first film.

Travel On, Frankie Avalon
Annette Funicello got her own post here a couple of years ago, and well it just feels lopsided not to give equal time to her screen partner. And also, Frankie Avalon (Francis Avallone, b. 1940) absolutely had a strong career of his own prior to their AIP films together, and continued to have thereafter. And thirdly, the vaudevillian in me loves when I learn a screen actor and/or singer has yet…
