BOOK REVIEW: BUBBLE, BUBBLE, TOIL, AND CUDDLE BY S. FRASHER
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am continuing to read through this fun set of novellas, except I didn’t realize this one left off on a cliffhanger. While I only have to wait a month to find out what happens next, I will be anxiously waiting to find out what happens to Evie.
Like the previous two I’ve read, these novellas have been perfect as I feel ready for fall but it’s still super hot here in AZ. There’s just something about looking for an ancient artifact on the grounds of a school of magical people that has me ready to drink apple cider and turn on a fake fireplace.
Evie’s situation feels exactly like something anyone with a well-connected mother would be thrust into. She handles it like a pro though, and doesn’t let it impact her self-worth, which is great to see. I can’t wait to see how she continues to navigate it when the next part of her story releases in a month.

Roped Into Hell 🪢 | Simon Kalivoda Imagine P.1
takes place during Fear Street 1994
My Masterlists | part 2
Characters & Pairings: Simon Kalivoda & Shadyside!Killer!reader (Not romantic)
Content Warnings: angst, bittersweet ending, profanity, mentions of canon violence, blood, murder, canon divergence (simon & kate live!) | female!reader (she/her) | wc: 2.9k
Requested 📨 yes/no
Premise: In which, instead of Ruby Lane, Simon Kalivoda comes face-to-face with an undead killer after Samantha Frasher who happens to be an expert at roping her targets and gives him a taste of what earned her the title of the Rodeo Queen.
note: yeah basically this is Simon thirsting over a shadyside killer!reader like he did Ruby Lane in the movie💀. I just watched the trilogy for the first time recently and then made my mom watch and I'm obsessed. I literally read all those books in middle school and it brought back memories. This will have a part 2!

Getting arrested for pissing on the side of the police station was not on Simon’s agenda with everything else going on. A serial killer--who happened to be dead--on the loose, stealing an ambulance, and who knows what else. So he thanked whatever power residing above that when Sheriff Goode sped away towards the hospital, he did not see Simon’s junk and saved him the embarrassment.
Zipping his pants up Simon turned on his heel to head back to the ambulance where his friends were waiting but stopped in place when his eyes landed on a figure several feet away leaning against the brick wall of one of the establishments on main street. Then the sound of whistling filled his ears. In a soft cadence, likely a song. He couldn’t recognize the melody, but it sounded old. Very old.
Squinting his eyes, Simon tried to get a better look at them, slowly moving closer as he saw their head was down. That’s when he noticed their attire, which led him to believe the person was a girl and again, caused him confusion. She was wearing a western style outfit; the kind people wore at rodeos or some school’s color guard team. White, tassels on the skirt and shirt. Red and green embroidery, black buttons paired with a sleek black belt containing a silver buckle and matching black boots. White gloves with black cuffs on the wrists. Simon couldn’t see her face due to the large hat on her head.
And in her right hand, she twirled a rope. The kind of rope one sees a cowboy use to wring in cows and pigs. The bottom was looped and tied; the majority of the line wrapped around one gloved hand. She looked like she just left the rodeo, which befuddled Simon more because the closest thing Shadyside and Sunnyvale had to one was the mock roundup competition they had at the annual Union County Fair.
But that took place in the spring. Not in the middle of fall.
Simon spotted dirt and grime on the white fabric of her skirt; a few tassels appeared to be missing. Hair loose and disheveled, like she had been thrown off a horse or something and rolled on the ground. God, who was this girl? And where the hell did she come from dressed like that?
The humming grew louder as Simon drew closer. His gaze flickering from the rope twirled in a perfect looped circle, hovering above the ground with expert precision, to her covered visage.
“Excuse me,” he called out when a foul smell reached his nostrils and caught sight of a few flies swarming her. The twirling stopped. “Are you okay? Do--do you need help?” He froze a good distance but still close enough to cause his blood to drain as the unknown girl lifted her head to reveal a gruesome display of her scared chest from the gaping hole in the collared shirt.
“What the….”
A sinister smirk appeared on her, and Simon had no time to react as the rope she’d been gripping shot out the moment he started backing away, catching his feet with a harsh tug to send him to the ground. “Ah!!” The harsh concrete met his back, pushing a groan out of his mouth which turned into a scream as he was dragged toward the girl.
Fighting against the pull, Simon reached to loosen the rope on his feet. Releasing himself to allow him enough time to rush into the middle of the street where he was roped down once again. This time by the loop going over his head to tug at the center of his chest. “Fuck!!” he shouted, meeting the ground with a harsh grunt.
The girl appeared in his vision, Simon thrashing against the rope as she straddled him. He freed his arms, the rope still secured around his chest, but it gave him the ability to fight her thanks to the consuming rush of adrenaline and need for survival.
Yeah Simon was a gentleman and taught to never lay his hands on a woman, but this bitch just roped him like some fucking bull and was now trying to kill him. All bets were off.
Her hat flew off, wild hair on full display with a crazed look and rope in hand trying to get the opposite end not currently looped on Simon around his neck. He fought even harder realizing the psycho meant to strangle him. Screaming his lungs out in hopes someone would hear him.
His one hand shot out, grabbing the girl’s throat as he leaned up from the street and pressed hard to cut off her air supply. It didn’t do much, just kept her upright but she managed to adjust her shoulder in a way that she knocked his arm away, hand releasing from her neck and because Simon was sitting upright it allowed her to secure the rope on his neck.
Simon choked, spitting on her face as his eyes bulged out and lost all air in his lungs. Hands frantically trying to get under the rope, scratching at her hands and his own skin he was sure it was leaving marks. Their faces were so close, Simon froze at the darkness clouding her visage. Eye void of color, void of any emotion besides pure madness.
Black spots filled his vision, head becoming hazy and Simon felt his grip on the rope he struggled to overpower loosen. But just when he was about to give in and lose the battle, shots rang out, followed by a wet substance splattering causing him to flinch as it hit his eye. The body above him slumped forward, clutch on the rope releasing and Simon took a loud, gasping breath of air. Heaving as he threw her off him, tore off the rope, and rushed to get up.
“Simon, come on!” Kate yelled, Deena, Sam, and Josh frozen in horror as they watched the body roll off Simon and he started screaming as he ran towards them. “Come on!”
“Go! Go! Let’s go!” he shouted, following Josh and Kate back to the ambulance. Meanwhile Sam remained in her place, feeling the need to throw up when she noticed the girl Deena gunned down began to twitch. Then one leg moved, and the other. Until she sat upright, and Sam felt her jaw drop as the gunshot wounds heal themselves.
Deena grabbed her arm to drag her away, “Come on!” And as they ran for their life to the ambulance, Sam swore she heard the faint sound of whistling in the distance.
Back at Deena and Josh’s house, the group gathered themselves to debrief. “It doesn’t make sense,” Sam shook her head, in disbelief as she processed what they just witnessed. “Bullets didn’t stop her.”
“Amazing observation,” Kate replied sarcastically while Simon closed the curtains on the window before rushing to the door to ensure it was locked.
“Who the hell was that?” Deena interrogated him, appalled by the spots of black blood coating his skin.
“How the hell should I know?!” he brushed past her, stuttering out, “She…I don’t--she was hot!” He took claim to the corner of the living room “I don’t know! The bitch seemed normal!”
“Yeah, well I hate to break it to you, but normal bitches don’t bleed black fucking blood!”
“Well, she was hot and normal,” he defended, frantically waving his hands. “Until she roped my feet and tried to strangle me!”
Josh’s head snapped up, “Wait. What…a rope?”
“Yeah, one that you see cowboys use. She roped me up like it was a fucking roundup competition!” Simon gasped for air, “For fuck’s sake she was even dressed like a cow--.”
“Girl,” Josh finished for him, causing Simon to fall silent while everyone turned to Josh with wide eyes. “She was dressed like a cowgirl.”
Deena, weary of the fact her brother seemed to know that information, turned to Simon unamused, “You saw a random girl dressed like a fucking cowgirl when Halloween is a month away acting odd and after everything we saw tonight, you thought, ‘I’m gonna approach her.’ Really Simon?”
The boy groaned, tilting his head back with his hands going to his hair, “I thought it was some weird kinky foreplay shit!! Cowgirl’s my favorite position--and she had rope--you know kinky bitches like to tie people up!” The others stared at him like he had two heads, appalled by the fact that’s where his mind went initially. “Excuse me for believing she was trying to seduce me!”
“In public?” Kate crossed her arms, narrowing her brows in disgust. “On main street next to the goddamn police station? Jesus, Simon…”
“Whatever,” he rolled his eyes with a huff. “At least none of you were nearly choked to death.”
Josh, who’d been quiet the past couple minutes deep in thought, leaned forward in his seat, “was she whistling something--before she attacked you. Like a tune--an old-timey tune?” The room fell silent. Once again everyone turned to Josh in pure astonishment.
Simon looked both horrified and amazed, “Jesus, Rain Man. How the fuck do you know that?”
The group followed Josh down to the basement, circling around the small table while Josh snatched a paper tacked to his wall dedicated to the infamous Shadyside mass murders. He slapped the dated newspaper clipping down on the surface, removing his hand to reveal the picture of the girl responsible for the bruises on Simon’s neck.
“This is Y/n L/n,” Simon pulled the clipping closer to him, the headline reading, 'Rodeo Queen Strangles Competition; Kills Six Before Gunned Down'. “The girl who attacked you.”
“Holy shit!”
“She was the Union County Rodeo Queen who whistled as she murdered her friends and competitors,” Josh explained. “She strangled them with her own rope and then died when the Sheriff shot her in the chest with a shotgun.”
“Jesus,” Kate frowned, sliding the paper towards her to get a better look. “Yeah, why didn’t I see this on the news?”
“Because it happened fifty-three years ago.” Everyone’s face contorted to shock, Josh pointing at the newspaper date. “1941. Union County got rid of the rodeo right after and turned it into the fair we get every spring.”
As Josh got up to retrieve more papers from the wall, Simon quickly read the article on Y/n. Discovering she was the four-time champion in her division, ranked the No.1 cowgirl in the county and had been dubbed the best roper of the rodeo. Beating out the male competitors. An impressive title, considering it was the 1940s and although women had been competing in rodeos since the 1800s, it was still a male dominated sport.
Josh returned to the table with a stack of papers. “Y/n is one of Shadyside’s killers, just like Skull Mask,” he placed the most recent article down. “I mean Ryan Torres. Look, 1978.” He slid another to the middle. “Sixteen years ago. “Masked psycho murders kids at Camp--.””
“Camp Nightwing,” Kate finished, focused on the specific article detailing the gruesome massacre. “Yeah, my mom’s sister was there. That screwed my family up for a long time.”
Josh lowered the next paper reading, ‘Milkman Slays Home Makers.’ “1950, Harry Rooker, local milkman slashes a bunch of housewives. 1935, Humpty Dumpty Killer. 1922, Billy Barker. 1904, Grifter guts girls, and on and on.” One more paper slaps on the table, “It happens in Shadyside over and over. Normal people turn into psychos.”
“Jesus,” Simon exhales, pulling the eerie picture of a man with no eyes from the pile. “Look at this guy.”
“That’s the pastor, Cyrus Miller,” Josh tells him with a grimace, “1666. He was the first one recorded. He, um…” he fights to get the words out, a sinking feeling in his stomach. He lowers his head, refusing to look at his friends, “killed kids and cut out their eyes.”
Sam, paling like she was about to throw up her guts, pushes up from her criss-cross position on the floor and leaves to the other room. Deena gets up not a second later, following the girl and leaves the three in the main space.
“None of this is random,” Josh looked at Simon, then at Kate, “It’s Sarah Fier.” The book page of a woman hanging from a tree stared back at them. “She’s turning Shadysiders into killers.”
“Do you really believe that?” Kate asked, unease pooling in her stomach and up to her throat. “I mean--no one actually thinks that this witch shit is real.”
“Yeah,” Simon agreed, or more like wanted to believe. “It’s something babysitters make up to scare kids.”
“No, no. Just listen to me,” Josh pleaded, “1666, Sarah Fier was hanged for witchcraft, fact. But ever since she was executed, she’s been possessing people, turning them into killers, to take revenge on the town.” He shuffled through the papers.
“It’s like the nursery rhyme,” Simon surveyed, recalling the story the town always referenced whenever weird shit occurred.
Josh nodded, “Yeah. Yeah.”
Simon started to recite to rhyme, “Before the witch’s final breath, she found a way to cheat her death. By cutting off her cursed hand,” his voice stuttered, gulping as he finished, “she kept her grip upon our land. She reaches from beyond the grave to make good men her wicked slaves.”
After figuring out it was Sarah Fier responsible for the chaos after Sam disturbed her grave and narrowly escaping the Camp Nightwing killer, the gang rushed to the school to begin their plan of luring the henchmen with Sam’s blood where they would end this night once and for all.
Changing into clothes stolen from the lost & found, they all grabbed buckets and mops to spread blood mixed water on the floors. Creating a trail from every angle to the restroom Sam would be hiding out as bait. From there, she’d escape through the vent and they’d light the bitch on fire.
Simon was finishing up on the stairs when his body froze, the soft whistling of a slowed down version of what he now knew was ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow,’ from The Wizard of Oz, echoing along the walls of the hall. His fear confirmed when he turned his head right to see the rodeo queen coming toward him. Hat on her head which made him unable to see the top portion of her face, boots clanking on the tile and twirling the rope like a cowgirl gearing up to wring in a loose calf.
Dropping the mop, Simon dashed away in the opposite direction where the others were. Skidding to a stop when he reached them, “Dude! She’s here! I saw her!” his shouting combined with the running left him out of breath. “She was--she was so sexy, but fucking crazy still!” He pressed himself against the wall, “She was doing it! Following the blood trails!”
“It’s working,” Kate announced, glancing to the right, “Skull Mask freak, three o’clock.”
They followed her gaze, landing on the figure just as a new voice filled the halls. One they hadn’t heard yet and sent a chill down their spines. “You always hurt the one…”
“What the fuck is that?” Simon murmured wide-eyed, turning to Josh for answers. The boy’s face was plagued with terror, gulping as he replied, “That’s Ruby Lane.”
Just when they were about to react to the new addition to their killer squad, whistling interlaced with Ruby’s singing. Making their blood run cold.
“Y/n….” Simon whispered right as the rodeo queen manifested from the opposite direction of Skull Mask, flanked beside the singing girl holding a bloodied switchblade. “Both of them, holy shit.”
The group trembled from their positions on the walls, gluing their backs to them in hopes the killers wouldn't brush against their clothing. “This is so dumb,” Kate whimpered, turning to Deena. “If this doesn’t work, I will murder you!” Doors opened from the hallway behind Josh and Simon, all turning to see the Nightwing killer, ax in hand, jogging along the blood trail until he began full on sprinting.
“They’re all here,” Deena stammered, closing her eyes when Skull Mask strolled past her into the bathroom. Kate did the same as Ruby and Y/n entered, then they all held their breath when Nightwing sprinted the final ten feet.
All four killers took the bait. All four kicked down a stall to discover it empty. Simon slammed the door to the restroom shut, Kate securing it with a rope while Deena doused the foot of the door in flammable liquid before tossing the lighter down. They heard the killers trying to break through before their screams erupted as the fire grew until it consumed the entirety of the restroom.
They heard everything. Their screams. Their banging on the doors in a desperate attempt to escape the flames. For a moment, it didn’t feel as though they were undead mass murderers, they were kids. Kids begging for help.
The blood curling sounds ceased at a loud *bang*. Smoke filling the hallway and the fire dimming down. Grinning, they raced inside to extinguish the remaining flames and saw the evidence of their plan. Black blood and guts coated the floor, painting the walls. They’d done it. They saved themselves.
Well, that’s at least what they thought until they witnessed the parts of flesh begin to move.
They should’ve known better than to celebrate their apparent success. For the night was only just beginning.

Hello! I've requested again some time ago and I can safely say I loved the one shot! I recently got another idea and I love your writing so I decided to request this too! What about sick Bill x male reader? Where he gets home and finds Bill in bed with a fever and takes care of him like, giving him a bath, helping him dress and makes his favorite food? Basically fluff, where they sleep together and reader helps him when he's feeling nauseous like holding back his hair and rubbing his back? Giving him a massage or lightly rubbing his stomach when it hurts and stuff like this.( I'm literally so obsessed it's getting unhealthy)
(I'm obsessed as well my man it's scary, thanks for requesting and loving my writing! And enjoy!)
Sick!Bill Kaulitz

Bill is either really clingy and really grumpy when sick
Bt in this case let's say he's both
He probably went out in bad weather when you told him not to
You got home and just found him lying in misery and sick as hell
Obviously you were worried and even more so when you discovered he has a fever
All he wanted to do was lay down with you and suffer with you
But he also finds it heartwarming on how worried you were getting for him
It made him feel very loved
He hates getting sick though but he would gladly do it again if it means getting taken care of by his boyfriend
If you helped him take a bath, he's literally in love
He's making jokes and everything about how much you love him as you drag him to the bathroom
You probably had to take the bath with him because he could not stay sitting up for the life of him
You guys ended up both in the bath while he sat with his back to your chest and in-between your legs
He definitely fell asleep because it was so relaxing and he also felt so sick and gross
The bath was making him feel frasher and he fell semi asleep when you were helping him wash his body
But then he passed out when you were washing his hair
You need to help him get dressed because he can barely stand up
For that he feels a bit bad about because he doesn't want to be a burden that you have to dress
Reassure him that he's not, and give him one of your shirts
He's leaning on you the whole time as you dressed him
Or y'know that scene of Ellie and Dina where after Ellie killed Nora and Dina took off Ellie's shirt to clean her? Image taking off the shirt but it's you and Bill when you're dressing him
That's how I image this
Bill feels really loved in the moment and feels this is a very intimate moment
He's joking on how much you love him and teasing you a bit as he's literally so congested
You laid him down in bed and he tried making you lay down with him as well before you disappeared
When you came back and you brought him food?
Especially his favorite food?
He felt so happy and so hungry all at once and so loved
He could probably move his arms but he was lazy and has you feed him
Just chewing and opening his mouth for another bite without saying anything
He didn't know how hungry he was
He shared with you, of course
Then after food he dragged you to lay with him in bed
All he wanted to do was cuddle and sleep
He laid on your chest the whole time t feel and listen to your heartbeat
He was on your side and head on your chest and he felt content and sick and happy all at once
If you started rubbing his side or his stomach or his back he would die
He's passing out right then and there because it feels so nice
Especially if you run your hands through his hair at the same time
One thing he does feel bad about though is he throws up in the middle of the night
So it meant a lot when you got up as well and held back his hair
He was apologizing the whole time as you cleaned him up and brought him back to bed
He felt bad for making you take care of him
Reassure you love him and would do it over and over again, please
He's willing to get sick to do all this again

Weekly Reading Update (12/15/24)
Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (★★★★★)
A good indicator of a good twist is that when you do catch on, you're kicking yourself for not figuring it out sooner. Tamsyn Muir does that in every book of this series, but it was such a kick in the pants this time around. I spent the last 100-200 pages of this book absolutely freaking out and pacing around my room. The character work in this book was really the stand-out between Nona, Camilla, Palamedes, and Pyrrha. I was also overjoyed to see the return of a beloved character (I thought maybe she Came Back Wrong but she's just having some weird quarter-life crisis). It was incredibly interesting to get some more context about the world, both before the Houses and outside them. I was utterly devastated by everything that happened in the last 50 pages and the only reason I didn't leave this mortal coil upon finishing was because I need to read Alecto.
More under the cut
The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik (★★★★★)
Oh, Naomi Novik, you are cruel. It's truly a miracle that I made it the whole year it took for The Golden Enclaves to come out when I read this for the first time. Anyway, I feel like ADE and TGE sometimes overshadow this one, ADE because it's the first and introduces us to so many beloved characters and TGE because it's insane, but this one is probably my favorite in terms of El and Orion's relationship. They are such fumbling teenagers (made infinitely worse by their magical whatnot), and it's adorable. This is also the book that really makes you feel for the Scholomance itself. As readers, we're told it's alive to some extent, but this is the book where it truly becomes its own entity or character. This was just as fun the second time around, and I grabbed some great evidence for my thesis.
For She Is Wrath by Emily Varga (★★★☆☆.5)
This book reverses what often happens; it has a bit of a weak beginning and end but the middle is just amazing. When Dani is enacting her revenge, the tension is high, the backstory is juicy, and her strengths get their moment to shine. The mystery of what is going on with the magic is great, and her tension with the love interest, Mazin, is quite well done. The beginning is a little contrived (really, of all the places to just dig into?) but moves quickly. I found the ending incredibly rushed; with the scope of Dani's goals, I really thought this was going to be a series, but it doesn't seem like it. The last ~20% or so is just jam-packed with every possible thing the characters can do, major moments getting barely more than 5 pages each. This book hovers at just under 400 pages, and I think extending it to around 450 just for more space in the climax would do wonders.
Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey (CR 30%)
Even if I haven't made much progress, the politics of this story continue to draw me in. This is what a political fantasy should be: me flipping back to the cast of characters every five pages to check who's related to who. Jokes aside, I am genuinely enjoying myself. I continue to find Phedre a delightful protagonist, and I'm really interested in what this is all building up to. Also, I think the main love interest was just introduced, and their dynamic is entertaining so far!
Witchbound by Sable Cross (DNF) and Daughter of Truth by S. Frasher (DNF)
I'm just putting these together because I DNF'd them both pretty early in for the same reason: bad writing. As it turns out, metaphors and pretty language don't automatically make your writing good; you have to be able to string a coherent sentence together for that. Once the poor writing made itself known a couple times, I knew it wasn't going to get any better.

Alice: Well then. I’m not going back on my word. I already agreed to marry you. I hope your cousin is right though, because I am slightly worried about the future children. If they should be girls, they can’t even grow moustaches! You mustn’t think I was lying when I said I don’t think you ugly, but I’m sure it’s easier for a child … Is it – was it very difficult to grow up like this?
Matthew: It’sh worth ‘he effor’.

Alice (sighs): Perhaps I don’t deserve any better for going against my brother’s advice.
Matthew: Shon, the ladder.
Jonathan (hissing): You’re going to marry her because she thinks she doesn’t deserve any better?
Matthew (hissing back): Mish Frasher thoug’ she desherve’ be’’er, an’ do you shee her a’ywhere aroun’?

BOOK REVIEW: THE LEGEND OF CAMP WYVERN BY S. FRASHER
⭐⭐⭐⭐
After reading For Coven’s Sake, I wanted to check out some of the author’s other novellas, and the summer camp one felt like a perfect pick as summer comes to a close.
This one featured an already established romantic pairing, which was fun, but also gave a bit more insight into the world the author has created. It was great to see the other species present and the different dynamics at play, especially in terms of the approach between species coming together and those arguing for species to stay separate. Also, is it really a mythic summer camp if there isn’t an appearance from a wyvern?

Rerecording of early 80's demo tunes from German frashers on clear vinyl. 'Witching Metal' is an absolute punk/d-beat hoot.
