FROSTFLOW LIGHTHOUSE
Tumblr media
RATING: 9/10
I hate Falmer dungeons. I cannot stand Charus. I hate tiny poorly lit corridors full of poison and torment. I, sincerely, cannot stand them. But this? Jesus christ. What a fuckign dungeon. Short and sweet so it doesn’t drag out, a riveting story, absolutely brilliant staging. And the pacing? Absolutely delectable.
Not an overt amount of loot, but the +10% restoration buff upon completion is real good if you’re doing a mage or paladin build, or just for every day utility. Let’s be real, who hasn’t popped out Healing Hands or Healing when your favorite follower starts to crumple?
My only minor complaint is just how easy it is to miss the smaller details of the story, like the son and daughter if you’re not thinking about it. I know I’ve done so a couple times. But what really stops it from being a 10/10 has to be location. Not a lot of people are aimlessly wandering out around the tundra flats, methinks, and it’s just more grey stone accentuated with snow.
I can’t recommend this dungeon if you don’t like bugs. Can’t find a good ‘replace charus’ mod anywhere.

yeah yeah i predate this with my “when i first played skyrim i was kinda young and pretty stupid” statement, but of all the miscellaneous quests, the one with Frostflow Lighthouse was so fucking enrapturing to me for some reason. there was so much wonder and fear playing through that simple “investigate the murders in frostflow lighthouse” quest. while i preach on how i can replay skyrim over and over again and never get tired of replaying it, that’s probably the one quest i wish i could replay for the first time all over again.

"average skyrim player's inventory contains 100 chaurus eggs" factoid actualy just statistical error. average skyrim player's inventory contains 0 chaurus eggs. chaurus georg, who went into frostflow lighthouse and looted every egg sac until he had over 400, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I wanted to capture the horror of Rhaenyra seeing these creatures for the first time and it just turned into a battle royale with her and Aela fighting for their lives to get the hell out of dodge xD. My Rhaenyra in this fic pitied the Snow Elves, but when it comes to Falmer, her pity turns into disgust and fear and she just kills them all with EXTREME prejudice. The incident at Frostflow Lighthouse gave her even more of a reason to detest them.
You did a great job! Honestly when I first started playing Skyrim many moons ago I would also pray when I was fighting Falmer because they used to mess me up! Plus Dwemer ruins are my least favorite to be in. I always hated doing the Blackreach quest until I figured out the trick to killing the Dwarven Centurions.
For my Dragonborn!Rhaenyra it’s definitely the same. When she finds out that the Falmer were once the Snow Elves she’s horrified and feels a lot of compassion for what happened to them but her compassion quickly goes out the window because they’re always trying to kill her and her companions.
But I do also think that if she did the Frostflow Lighthouse quest she’d have even less compassion if any. My Dragonborn!Rhaenyra is older and has seen all the shit so she trends less toward compassion and kind of just snaps sometimes.
Although one of my mutuals @745voiceofthepeople brought up the possibility of Rhaenyra feeling a kind of kinship with the Snow Elves given their similarities with Valyrians which I thought was a cool take. I think could be fun to explore but I still think the outcome with how she views the Falmer ends up being the same.

9/1/2024:
I was in Frostflow Lighthouse in Skyrim, collecting water breathing potions so that I could see how deep into the ocean I could go without dying. The water was freezing and vast and got darker the deeper I went. I died, crushed by the water, and respawned at the lighthouse.
I went to see my protégé, a teenage boy with dark hair who reminded me of Nico from the Percy Jackson series. He looked sad and when I asked him what was wrong, he said that the head wizard (my boss) had confiscated his engraved sword that his late father had given him. I stormed into the wizard’s office, demanding that he return the sword. The wizard had some issue with the engravings on it and refused. We had a heated argument about it that turned into a shouting match. The engraving was written in cursive and the wizard mistook one of the words for something else. Even after I pointed out the mistake, he still refused, and cast the sword into the sea.
I grabbed Nico (that’s his name for all intents and purposes) and fast-traveled to the ocean, where we teathered ourselves to a buoy and plunged in. Deeper and deeper we went, but we couldn’t find the sword. The teather tightened like a bungee and we flew upwards, barely having time to catch our breath before plunging down again. I remembered the water breathing potions and shared them with Nico, but they looked more like asthma inhalers.
We eventually gave up and headed back to the lighthouse, where the wizard had gathered all the workers around a table with lost-and-found items on it. He said to claim them now or forever hold your peace, but there was the undertone that there would be shame in claiming your property, as these were forbidden items. Nico’s sword was in the pile.
Without hesitating I started gathering the items that were mine. The wizard had apparently gone through my personal belongings and stolen some and put them on the table to humiliate me for standing up to him, but I didn’t care. Nico followed my lead, but more tentatively. I handed him his sword, and I looked to the wizard to see his reaction, but an IRL noise woke me up before I could see it.
