Lost?
This is my main blog, where I post/reblog art! I love drawing, whether it's fanart or original. I have a side blog (flea-is-not-a-furry) that's basically exactly the same except its specifically furry/art community content.
In terms of sexual content, we keep it safe for work around here, but otherwise, there's adult content like gore and swearing.
I use the tags #my art and #best of flea for my art and #others art for anything that's not mine.
Looking?
for something specific? [I haven't fuckin finished yet, forgive me. I also think I fucked up a bunch of the tags I had with the mass post editor so just don't look for things on my blog rn. Sorry.] I tag all fanart for spoilers as a general rule, but also have a tag for most fandoms that's specifically spoiler-free so anyone can just search my blog by those and scroll in peace.
For convenience's sake, all the spoiler vs spoiler-free tags I use are on this post, so (assuming you are on my blog) you can just click one and be on your way.
A few weird quirks explained:
#Fantasy High (freshman year) includes spoilers for season one, but not two, and #Fantasy High (sophomore year) includes spoilers for season two but not three.
#drawtectives also features characters from every season, just no content that would spoil the mysteries or relates to any plot points

Get to Know Me Tag
Thank you to @belladovah for tagging me!
Favourite colour: You might be able to guess this because of my avatar and blog theme, but it’s turquoise/teal.
Currently reading: Emma by Jane Austen. My mum bought me a huge volume of all her novels in one book which I read in bed before I go to sleep.
Last series I watched: I’ve been watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood with my best friend. We’ve only got seven episodes left and there’s so much action going on. I can’t wait to see how it goes - no spoilers!
Sweet, spicy or savoury: My username comes from the fact that popcorn is my favourite snack, and salted popcorn at that, so I’m going to go with savoury, but I do like dark chocolate a lot, too.
Tea or coffee: Neither - hot chocolate.
Craving: Nothing right now!
Currently working on: I’ve actually been taking a break for a little while now, like I said I would probably two months ago and didn’t. However, I went to Beamish Living Museum this weekend and all the old shops there really inspired me to get back into the Cottage Living shop conversions I was working on. I can’t promise these will be done quickly, though.
I tag @deedee-sims, @shastakiss and @jonny-parable. Feel free to ignore!

Obey Me - Dub Voices HC
Here me out, this has been rolling around in my head for a while and need to get it all out there. I even cited some sources. I’m i n v e s t e d.
•Lucifer - J. Michael Tatum
~examples: Sebastian Michaelis (Black Butler), Kyoya Ootori (Ouran High School Host Club), Erwin Smith (Attack On Titan)
https://youtu.be/Yj-znysjcys (Do I really need to specify? *sigh* Sebastian Michaelis, that is all)
youtube
•Mammon - Jerry Jewel
~examples: Kyo Sohma (Fruits Basket), Russia (Hetalia), Viktor Nikiforov (Yuri!! On Ice)
https://youtu.be/7cYmb0p6-ns (Best one I could find, honestly I can only picture Mammon with Kyo’s voice in English)
youtube
•Leviathan - Christopher Bevins
~examples: Hanta Sero (My Hero Academia), Yasuhiro Hagakure (Danganrompa), Japan (Hetalia)
https://youtu.be/WRqclKFJ17E (Hear me out on this one, Levi is just Japan without the Japanese accent)
youtube
•Satan - Brandon McInnis
~examples: Mirai Sasoki/Sir Nighteye (My Hero Academia), Patrick Phelps (Black Butler: Book of Murder), Sohnosuke Izoyoi (Danganrompa 3)
https://youtu.be/FhkKHXJAO_c (Specifically Nighteye’s voice here like DAMN)
youtube
•Asmodeus - Todd Haberkorn
~examples: Italy (Hetalia), Death the Kid (Soul Eater), Hikaru Hitachiin (Ouran High School Host Club)
https://youtu.be/IuYZXvibPUI (A ~classique~, honestly to really get the Asmo feel of his voice, you have to watch Hikaru [specifically the way he speaks to Kaoru, in the fake twincest moments] or Italy when he finds pretty ladies)
youtube
•Beelzebub - Travis Willingham
~examples: Colonel Roy Mustang (Full Metal Alchemist/Brotherhood), Takashi Morinozuka (Ouran High School Host Club), Cell (Dragon Ball Universe)
https://youtu.be/c-cpbRn1AfE (Listen, I’m no coward. I will tell you I picked this voice actor specifically because almost every character he’s voiced, I have a crush on. And Beel should be no exception)
youtube
•Belphegor - Austin Tindle
~examples: Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul), Karma Akabane (Assassination Classroom), Marco Bodt (Attack On Titan)
https://youtu.be/0dOBcQN10YY (Ken Kaneli immediately popped in to my head for Belphie because not only could he be soft spoken and also scary as hell, but listen to how much of a little shit Karma can be; that’s straight Belphie)
youtube
•Diavolo - Christopher Sabat
~examples: Yagi Toshinori/All Might (My Hero Academia), Vageta (Dragon Ball Universe), Ayame Sohma (Fruits Basket)
https://youtu.be/JXU6v4ri1Zg (The true voice of an old man trying to stay hip with the kids *chefs kiss*)
youtube
•Barbatos - Benjamin Diskin
~examples: Ban (Seven Deadly Sins), Joseph Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, season 2), Sai (Naruto)
https://youtu.be/godLNT6HypI (He’s also Nigel Uno from Kids Next Door and I can’t stop hearing Numbah One in all these characters now)
•Solomon - Eric Vale
~examples: Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket), Tomura Shigaraki (My Hero Academia), Kisumi Shigino (Free!)
https://youtu.be/yDzZfahnu3Q (Definitely more of a Yuki vibe until he does some shady shit and then you get a splash of Shigaraki)
•Simeon - Micah Solusod
~examples: Tsunagu Hakamata/Best Jeanist (My Hero Academia), Yuno (Black Clover), Soul Evans (Soul Eater)
https://youtu.be/2muiy5SRxs8 (Just like, all the times his characters are soft bois™, that’s Simeon talking)
•Luke - Vic Mignogna
~examples: Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood), Tamaki Suoh (Ouran High School Host Club), Broly (Dragon Ball Universe)
https://youtu.be/bvpJjbphJWQ (SPOILER WARNING: if you haven’t watched Fullmetal Alchemist [Brotherhood or otherwise], just listen to the first like 30 seconds or so, the way he does Ed’s kid voice is so Luke. I figured Japan picked a male actor to play Luke, so even though his character could be dubbed by a woman and have an equally as amazing performance, if I had to pick a male kid voice, young Ed hits the nail on the head)
[Side note, I would NOT be mad if Luke was played by Maxey Whitehead, who plays Alphonse Elric in FMA: Brotherhood, AND Crona from Soul eater. She would also make an amazing Luke]

Name your Top 10 favorite characters from 10 different fandoms and then tag 10 people!
Tagged by: @honestlyhaikyuutrash i am trash and i secretly kind of love doing these lol, thank youuu!
In no particular order...my favorite characters (Anime, Books, TV shows, all included!) warning, swearing ahead, lol I couldn’t keep it in check
Haikyuu - well, since I dedicated my blog to him, I would hope it’s pretty obvious: Kuroo Tetsurou. I mean literally, HELP, I’m in love. Look at him. Why is he so beautiful yet also a loveable dork??? Head over heels from minute one
Avatar: The Last Airbender - without even hesitation, Zuko. That character development is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and I will never get over it. Also, hello? He’s beautiful too
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - who can even pick a fav character from this show?? They’re all perfect and unique and all have a purpose to the greater scheme of the entire plot. It’s safe to say this is one of my favorite animes of all time.
Throne of Glass - this is a book series by Sarah J. Maas that if you haven’t read it, you really should!! But Rowan Whitethorn is my fav for sure. Loyal, badass as fuck, sarcastic, sign me up. I would love to talk about it with anyone but I haven’t read Kingdom of Ash yet - no spoilers!!
A Court of Thorns and Roses - another series by Sarah J. Maas that if you want less of a commitment (only 3 books instead of 7), definitely check it out. Feyre Archeron is one of the best female protagonists I’ve ever read and she deserves the world AND MORE.
Voltron - hell yeah I’m on the Voltron train. SHIRO DESERVES LOVE AND HAPPINESS AND I WAS SO LOST WITHOUT HIM. I LOVE YOU BBY
Free! - Makoto Tachibana. Such a good friend. Such a good captain. Such good back muscles mmmmhmmmm.
Game of Thrones - Fucking Daenerys Targaryen. I just love badass women roles, “The next time you raise a hand to me will be the last time you have hands.” I am always screaming from another dimension whenever she has screentime (I’m also obsessed with dragons, ok, I want one.)
Yuri on Ice - I used to figure skate, so this anime has a special place in my heart. And so does Yuuri Katsuki. His personality is similar to my own when it came to skating so...yeah, I really love him.
Soul Eater - frick this is a good anime. And Dr. Franken Stein takes the cake. Not really sure why, but when he showed up I was like “yup. there he is. my fav character. no questions asked.”
Whelp, that was a little long winded but I do like sharing things about myself with you guys and have been meaning to make an “about me” post...
I’m tagging: @mou-ikaihaikyuu @kuroosarium @kzombi3 umm yeah everyone else I would tag already has been *insert awkward face*

Favorite Character Game
Thank you @word-nerds-united for the tag!
RULES: Name your top ten favorite characters from different fandoms. Then tag ten people.
These characters are not listed in any particular order!
1. Midoriya Izuku from My Hero Academia/Boku no Hero Academia!  Deku is someone with a heroic nature through and through. He’s shy and soft and kind but stubborn and will fight for everyone. He’s incredibly relatable and I love him!
2. Saitama from One Punch Man! Now-a-days whenever someone asks me who my favorite hero is I say Saitama! I love that he doesn’t shy away from his apathy and all he wants is a decent fight. He says he doesn’t have emotions but then draws the public’s ire away from his fellow heroes!
3. Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood! The thing I love most about Edward is that he is such a complex character. He’s smart and charming when he wants to be but also incredibly oblivious and bullheaded. This is my favorite character and anime because they will often put Ed in places and fights where he doesn’t do well. He’s powerful but can be beaten and I love that!
4. Kaito KID/Kuroba Kaito from Case Closed/Detective Conan! Kaito will always and forever be one of my favorite characters. He’s tricky and funny and doesn’t care if he breaks the law. He’s so morally good and just wants to find out who killed his father. He’s the best magician ever and I love him so much!
5. Okumura Rin from Blue Exorcist/Ao no Exorcist! I really love tortured characters and Rin, at least in the beginning of the manga, is certainly tortured. He’s got a lot of guilt and self-hatred in the beginning but still manages to laugh and smile. When his heritage was revealed and his friends turned their backs I cried (for real).
6. Gladion from Pokemon: Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon! Gladion is extremely special to me because he helped me think of an entire world based off of his story in pokemon. He left his home when he was young and stole a creature that he knew was as tortured as he was. He is a total tsundere but is so kind in his dialogue. I just love him a lot!
7. Wade Wilson/Deadpool from Marvel! The Merc with the Mouth. Deadpool is such a cool character not only because of his regenerative powers and crazed personality but also because of his ability to casually break the fourth wall! I really like it when he makes those silly comments about the comic/movie/fanfiction he’s in!
8. Tony Stark/Iron Man from Marvel! I mostly know Tony from the MCU and he is the definition of every character I’ve loved ever. He’s brilliant, tortured, lonely, and desperate. I want him to be happy so much! I refuse to watch both Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War due to spoilers because of how much they would make me cry for Tony. Iron Man 1 is my favorite Marvel movie!
9. Loki from Marvel/Norse Mythology! I adore Loki’s personality, character traits, and character development! He is in it for himself until he likes someone then he tricks and lies and manipulates to keep them safe. He loves his brother but hates him at the same time (relatable). My favorite Chaotic character (sorry Deadpool).
10. Thor from Marvel/Norse Mythology! Thor is kind and honest and just wants to make peace but he also loves fighting and battle. He’s made some great strides as a character in MCU and is incredibly funny. He’s just a lovely bro! Thor: Ragnarok is my second favorite Marvel movie!
I’m going to tag: @sunflowershine03, @the-lady-razorsharp, @cracks-open-cold-one, @rayadawn666, @snugglebunchesofeyes, @annaliseasen56, @aeferdilly, @ninjakitten1699, @thatteentm, and @my-literary-mind! If anyone else wants to do this feel free!
Have fun you guys!

All-Star Squadron #10 - 12
Tumblr media
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
All-Star Squadron #10 – 12 by Roy Thomas, Adrian Gonzales, and Jerry Ordway
“If An Eye Offend Thee!”
The issue opens in San Francisco. It is early January 1942 and Hawkman has snuck away from the military base for a late evening flight.
The majority of the Justice Society retired their heroic identities to enlist in the various branches of the military.
Carter joined the Air Force and is set to make “pilot in record time” but “it’s liable to be months before I’ll see action in the army air force.”
Hakwman witnesses a fleet of B-17 Bombers arriving at the base from Randall Field, Texas.
Carter muses: “Those flyboys will do America a lot more good than one former playboy swooping around in a beaked masks and wings.”
“Speaking of former playboys, I just remembered Randall Field’s where Starman – Ted Knight – is based. I wonder if he might be – no, not likely. He couldn’t have his officer’s commission yet.”
Carter is wrong, as Ted is flying one of the planes. Ted’s co-pilot can’t get over how fast he made pilot status.
Ted suspects his co-pilot feels Ted’s money cut through the red tape but, in fact, as Starman, Ted has been “flying high for a year now.”
I’m not sure how flying under your own power allows easy mastery over flying a plane but I’ll go with it.
Starman admits missing using his gravity rod to fly under his own power.
A flying UFO appears out of nowhere, “glowing so blindly I can barely look at it.” The UFO attacks the planes.
A plane plummets to the ground. Hawman races after, knowing it’s futile, but hoping his Ninth Metal harness can stop the impending crash.
Fortunately for Carter, Ted makes excuses to head to the back of his plane. He promptly changes into his Starman costume, grabs his gravity rod, and exits the plane.
A relieved Hawkman has Ted save the plane while he prevents the UFO from attacking more planes.
An unconscious man falls out of the UFO. The UFO flies away to parts unknown.
Starman has to get back aboard the plane but Carter wants to know how Ted made pilot so fast.
Ted: “I got the President himself to fix it up for me.”
Ted admits he hates “using our ‘in’ with F.D.R.” but “winning this lousy war that’s important” and he would “mangle every rule in the book” if he had to.
Carter realizes he needs to return to base before he’s reported A.W.O.L. but first he needs to find help for the unconscious man. Unfortunately, the man dies in his arms before Carter can reach the ground.
Carter believes he knows the dead man and if it’s who he thinks it is “the secret behind that ‘Flying Eye’ may be even more sinister than I’d imagined.”
A caption box informs us we’ll have to wait an issue or two before discovering the full meaning of Carter’s words.
I enjoyed the quick check-in with Hawkman and Starman. The military enlistment was used throughout the All-Star Squadron run to explain why the members of the Justice Society weren’t featured heavily in the series.  It’s still nice to have the occasional appearance from a Society member.
We switch to Washington DC.
The Shining Knight, Hawkgirl, and Johnny Quick are careening past the Washington Monument.
I still don’t understand how Shiera hasn’t died of hypothermia while fighting crime in a bikini top during an East Coast winter.
I don’t have a problem with certain female super-heroes fighting crime in swimsuits, hot pants, or skirts. For example: She-Hulk, Supergirl, Power Girl, or Mary Marvel. All four women are mostly invulnerable and largely immune to temperature extremes. As long as it’s true to their personality, those women can wear what they want – they don’t have practical concerns to worry over.
However, women like Black Canary, Huntress, and Hawkgirl are neither invulnerable or immune to temperature extremes. Their costumes should reflect their need to protect their body from physical harm.
Side-note: Huntress’s abdomen-baring, hot-pants costume was one of the most idiotic outfits of all time. Both for the reasons listed above and because shorty before it’s debut, Helena was shot multiple times in the abdomen by the Joker. And the life-saving surgery was performed in Gotham during No Man’s Land. There was no plastic surgeon nearby to minimalize the scars. Yet no artist ever drew Helena with a scarred abdomen. Stupid!
Johnny compliments Shiera on the design of her new mask.  Shiera took the time to modify her mask but not to add sleeves to her top? Okay.
Johnny mentions he’d “better get some newsreel footage of all this, or Johnny Chambers is gonna be looking for a new job.”
Johnny is a cameraman for See’s All/Tells All News.
Sir Justin tethers Winged Victory and notices an unconscious man: “Here lies a man unconscious and he wears the regalia of an American soldier.”
Johhny has entered the Washington Monument in time to stop a sabotage attempt.
Johnny stops the actual explosion while Shiera and Justin deal with the saboteurs.
Sir Justin: “We thank you for letting us deal with these Nazis, Johnny Quick, for, in sooth, ‘twould be most unseemly to have let you fight the good fight unattended.”
Johnny: “Knight, you sure do talk pretty sometimes.”
The trio take the unconscious man (wounded guard) to the hospital.
Johnny mentions this is the second national monument he’s saved in a month and “I wonder how things are going out at Mount Rushmore?”
Hey, every hero needs a specialty. Superman fights alien invasions, Batman solves crimes, and Johnny Quick protects national monuments.
We switch locations to “one of the few American outposts in the distant Pacific Ocean which has not yet fallen to the Japanese juggernaut” where a “total blackout has been rigidly enforced for the past month.”
We have another check-in with a JSA member.
Dr. Charles McNider is on the island researching tropical fever. And he’s brought Hooty!
Charles serving in a research role for the military is a perfect fit. Charles wouldn’t be able to actively enlist in the military as he is blind.
Enemy planes and the “Flying Eye” attack the island. Charles changes into his “Dr. Mid-Nite” uniform to help the soldiers on the ground.
A solider is very confused: “Dr. Mid-Nite?! How the heck did you get over here?”
I understand Charles’ natural impulse is to change into costume at the first sign of danger but making an appearance on an isolated island is not a good way to maintain a secret identity.
The Flying Eye causes multiple plane engines to stall and crash. Fortunately, the pilots bail out.
The Flying Eye retreats and Charles heads back to his lab: “Better get back before my assistant Myra Mason notices Dr. McNider’s missing.”
Charles, trust me, Myra knows you run around as Dr. Mid-Nite. She may not say anything but she knows.
Did Charles use the “FDR card” in order to have Hooty and Myra accompany him? Myra is a nurse and Charle’s long-time assistant, used to working with the blind Charles, so she’s a logical choice to accompany him but Hooty?
I mean, I love Hooty, I’m just now sure how Charles convinced the military brass to allow his owl on the island.
We switch to the Russia’s Crimean Peninsula where the Flying Eye attacks both the Russian and the German forces and flies away.
Back to Washington. Robotman examines Steel. Robotman declares Steel free of any influence from Baron Blitzkrieg.
Firebrand accompanies the duo outside in time to witness the arrival of the Flying Eye.
The Flying Eye causes the hospital generatiors, along with Steel and Robotman, to shut down.
The Flying Eye heads to the White House. Firebrand along with a recovered Robotman and Steel race to the White House.
The trio arrive at the White House and meet up with Liberty Belle, Hawkgirl, the Shining Knight, Johnny Quick, and the Atom.
A shadowy, seven-foot man emerges from the Eye and battles the All-Star Squadron.
The man removes his helmet and proclaims: “I am Akhet, and I have come from the second planet of the star you call Proxima Centauri to annex this world, and all upon it, in the name and by the power of the Binary Brotherhood!”
Up Next: “The Spaceman’s Sinister Secret!”
Akhet issues an ultimatum: “All of Earth’s nations must surrender that a united planet planet may be ruled by myself, as emissary of the Brotherhood. Any nations which resist – be it one or all – will be obliterated by such power as my starcraft has already demonstrated. You have one earth-day to choose between abject surrender and total annihilation!”
The All-Stars want to attack but Liberty Belle correctly states that they should wait for the President’s signal.
Half the Squad attacks anyway, and when it goes badly, the rest rush in to help.
Sir Justin, as always, has the best battle cry: “Nor shall any man or maid set a foot further than does the Shining Knight! Forward to the fray, Winged Victory!”
The fight doesn’t go well and Ahket absconds with Steel, Hawkgirl, Atom, and Robotman.
Johnny laments: “What a time for the big guns in the Justice Society to have decided to enlist in the Army as privates!”
The Flying Eye attacks random locations across the globe.
The remaining All-Stars meet with the President, Prime Minister Churchill, and a military general.
Liberty Belle is suspicious of Akhet’s claims: I’m convinced there’s more to this than meets the eye.”
Hawkman arrives at the White House.
Hawkman informs the others of his and Starman’s encounter with the Flying Eye.
Carter tells the group the identity of the man who fell out of the ship: “Garret Owens, a pioneering bio-chemist. He’d gone out for a stroll near his Illinois home in 1933 – and hadn’t been seen since!”
Carter notes the emblem on Owens’ uniform is an old alchemist’s symbol for the Middle Ages, it is the sign for “the spirit of the world”.
Hawkgirl and Atom awaken in the Eye. Shiera’s a bit over-whelmed as she’s not a “full-time masked hero type. I’ve just put on this outfit to help the Hawk a time or two – and now this happens!”
Atom informs her “It’s a little late to fall back on your amateur standing.”
Atom and Hawkgirl explore the Eye.
Hawkman and the non-captured All-Stars race to the estate of Elwood P. Napier, a physio-mathmematician.
Elwood is another scientist who has gone missing in the last decade.
Johnny Quick has discovered the missing scientists were part of a government brain trust that ran out of funds in 1930.
Elwood was the last of the scientists to go missing. Before that one of the scientists went missing every six months.
Firebrand uses her powers to light up the interior of the house.
Sir Justin: “Odd’s blood, lass, but in my long-ago day, they’d have burned ye for a witch.”
Good thing Firebrand’s a modern woman. Also, good luck with the burning thing considering the nature of her powers.
Hawkgirl and Atom encounter Akhet and easily knock him out. The duo discover Akhet is a robot.
The duo discovers the rest of the captured All-Stars along with the missing scientists.  All individuals are placed in clear tubes.
Hawkgirl and Atom discover the true mastermind behind the plan: Dr. Hastor, Hawkman’s arch-enemy.
“Doomsday Begins At Dawn!”
Hawkman and his fellow All-Star leave Elwood’s estate.
Carter recognized Hastor in the photos found at the estate, “a man I saw die more than two years ago”.
Carter recaps his origin and debut as Hawkman. This is familiar ground for DC fans but I’ll offer a quick summary: Ancient Egypt – Prince Khufu and Shiera – murdered by Hath-Set, a priest of Anubis, all three re-incarnate to their present day lives.
Carter battles Dr. Anton Hastor in his first adventure. Hastor presumed dead after his fight with Carter.
Carter informs his fellow All-Stars that there is no alien invasion – only Hastor’s machinations.
Hastor explains to Shiera his plans and how he became involved with the missing scientists.
Hastor took control of the group of scientists and the Flying Eye, starting the events of the last few issues.
The All-Stars reach the Flying Eye via a hot-air balloon! No engine to knock out in the balloon.
Carter, Shiera, and Hastor battle by using their past lives’ astral forms.
The Hawks win, the Flying Eye is deactivated, and Hastor falls into a comatose state.
I love the All-Star Squadron but this is a pretty “meh” arc. Too many twists needlessly over-complicated – and stretched out - the plot.

Ajin is so great wtf! (no spoilers, no worries ) ALSO, lots of other anime recs mentioned
I started watching an anime last night that @danisnotonfire and @amazingphil keep mentioning especially in their liveshows -- Ajin. I think I thought it was something completely different, like a continuation of another series or something. But I was bored last night and saw it on Netflix so gave it a go.
What the actual fuck, guys! This series is AWESOME so far!!
It actually gives me a lot of Tokyo Ghoul vibes, and from what I can see they first started serialization as manga about a year apart, with Tokyo Ghoul first. But Ajin feels sort of like, if Tokyo Ghoul had focused on the start of all the craziness in Tokyo instead of after there was the full formation of their law enforcement crews and etc etc.
The designs have sort of similar vibes too, from the elite dude in LE to the MC to the MC’s childhood best friend who I also wish was in the series more just like in Tokyo Ghoul, but the personalities aren’t all the same.
I’m not finished with what’s out of Ajin in anime yet--just finished the first season last night, saw the first ep of season 2 this morning, will have to wait till after work to watch the rest this week. So I probably will avoid tumblr for a bit just to avoid spoilers until I’m up to date on the anime at least. Also, I see there are 9 volumes of manga so I’ll probably read the manga too if I continue to like the anime.
I’m feeling about Ajin so far the way I first felt about Tokyo Ghoul -- that I really like it, although sometimes the government or LE make really weird decisions as if it’s to make sure the MCs win, but imo the bad guy in Ajin is way cooler than TG. He’s way more intelligent about the way he’s systematically dismantling shit. Actually, the way social media is integrated into Ajin reminds me a bit of Zankyou no Terror which I ALSO really loved the fuck out of in the beginning but the fucking ending of that and the choice to MC that stupid ass girl totally ruined the series for me.
Also, while I loved the hell out of Tokyo Ghoul, I’ve so far been largely disappointed by Tokyo Ghoul:re (so much so that I stopped reading the manga months ago but I plan to give it another go soon).
So right now, Ajin is reflecting the love I had for Tokyo Ghoul and Zankyou no Terror, but has yet to disappoint me like both of those did. I hope that continues going forward because wow would it be nice to finish an anime series or continue a manga series with as much love as I started it lol
Anyway, Dan and Phil--you guys give good anime recs! (More about their other recs behind the cut)
I also watched Magi after you kept talking about it, even though I’d tried reading the manga years earlier and didn’t like it. But then I gave it another go and now I fucking love that series. Alibaba is the actual fucking best and has become one of my favorite anime characters, period. I’m a few chapters behind on that one because I think the series is ending soon and I kind of wanted to read it all at once, but we’ll see.
Also, I know I’ve watched or heard of a number of the other ones Dan has mentioned in his anime recs. And for the most part, I also have liked or even loved those. Dan’s videos are: Anime Will Ruin Your Life, Dan’s Anime Recs, and Dan’s Anime Recs #2. Also here’s Phil’s video where Dan and Phil cosplay.
The main place where we differ is I didn’t much like Erased (can’t fully recall why), Sword Art Online I gave a go for an episode but didn’t get into it (but this may be a generational thing; I have been into anime like 13 years longer than Dan so I think it’s just that SAO feels like a really new concept if they haven’t seen the 10,000 anime like it I watched ages ago, but it ALSO may be that maybe it gets way better later and I just didn’t give it a good enough chance), and.... that’s actually it. All the other ones he lists I either love, really like, thought was cool, or haven’t seen yet.
Honorable mentions:
I started Haikyuu!! because they mentioned it and OH MY FUCKING GOD THANK YOU DAN AND PHIL.
Chihayafuru--my friend recced this separately to me, said it was one of her favorite series ever. I did start watching it and liked it, I stopped it because idk I just took a break, it’s a bit slower moving of a story than I usually do. BUT it’s good!
Madoka Magica, Soul Eater (the bit I’ve read), Black Butler, Death Note, Free!, these are all good.
Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop are classics. If you haven’t watched them you have to! Kaworu all the fucking way in Eva <3333333, and Cowboy Bebop is just all around incredible.
Tokyo Ghoul I watched on my own before they recced it --like I said, I liked that too; Tokyo Ghoul imo is super good, it’s just :re that’s meh. Your Lie in April is really good for the most part (although a relationship thing of it bugged me because I knew from the start what was going on, not because spoilers but because it was obvious to me, so that kind of ruined the story a little because I think it was meant to be a plot twist, BUT it’s still quite beautiful and moving)-- Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is fucking incredible and if you haven’t seen that WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE. Magi is awesome. I started reading Parasyte because I got the first volume in the $1 bargain box at rightstufanime. I have Stein’s Gate but haven’t watched it yet.
Attack on Titan was one I was suuuuuper into when I first started reading it/watching it when it first came out but then idk. I got caught up to the manga, had to wait for chapters, the art quality deteriorated/changed, I didn’t like most of the characters and the one I did like kind of wasn’t around as much, so I lost my love of that series. I’ll probably watch the anime sometime to see what happens because the anime is much more well done than the manga, in a shocking turn of events that’s contrary to usual.
Fruits Basket is another classic and IT’S SO FUCKING CUTE AND GOOD, if you haven’t seen that WHAT ALSO ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE.
re:ZERO I’d found on my own and I loved it. I agree with Dan on having that as a rec. It’s very interesting.
Yuri on Ice I feel pretty meh about. I know everyone thinks it’s the best thing ever but I think it’s really poorly written and I don’t really care too much about the characters. idk if I’ll even bother watching season 2. We’ll see. I kind of don’t like any of the relationships tbh. Not really a fan of the two MCs.
Hunter x Hunter ... I think it’s good through the Yorknew City arc, and I love the FUCK out of Kurapika as a character just generally in anime/manga ever, but I don’t really like the series after that. I am behind on the latest chapters. I tried reading it when the new ones came out after the hiatus but I was kind of turned off by the first 2 chapters and set it aside. Eventually I’ll continue that again.
The rest of the ones Dan has mentioned, I have yet to see but I think I’ve heard a number of them before on other recs.
You should watch his videos for more information on those anime, also you can get a free trial at Crunchyroll using their codes if you need it. tbh I did eventually buy Crunchyroll so I can watch anime on my roku and I’m really happy with this decision. I will continue to pay for it because it’s super nice--even just in watching One Piece for the 10,000th time with my friend.
That became way more rambling/in depth than I planned lol I was just gonna be like “LOLZ AJIN = GOOD SO FAR WOW! :D” but then I wanted to link Dan’s vids and basically say that I do think you should listen to Dan and Phil’s recs. So far they seem like they have really good taste in anime.
And that’s coming from a 33 year old who’s been watching anime/reading manga since 13/14, and has seen/read a shit ton of series over that time. I’m pretty critical of series by now. And for the most part, Dan and Phil have been recommending genuinely awesome series. And I’ve found new series I wouldn’t have watched without them so I’m really happy.
Anyway those are my thoughts! I’m excited to watch more Ajin when I get back from work today! PLEASE DON’T LET ME DOWN AJIN T_T
