i'm so glad dc utilized the alan scott officially being gay 'retcon' in an interesting way that also doubles down on why alan most likely quit being green lantern amidst the jsa disbanding.
him having a hero/villain romance with a soviet agent, the american government accusing the jsa of being communists amidst the mccarthyism, alan being one of the first people hanging up his cape.... geoff johns is actually a GENIUS!!! it also 100% ties into why alan essentially let the idea of him being gay go and why he would try & get with women after the jsa disbanded.... johnny thunder also said the red lantern is still a sensitive subject like it's still eating alan alive to this day. the internalized homophobia happening AFTER the jsa disbanding is so poetic truly.

Hawkman: you’re our new Doctor Fate??
Y/N: yes and I’m still learning
Atom Smasher: learning?
Y/N: you know how many ancient tomes and books of knowledge are contained in the Helmet of Fate? 10,386,427.
Maxine: how many of those have you read?
Y/N: one…and a half
Maxine: I like this guy!
Y/N: and may I just say that the only studying I want to do…is your phone digits
Y/N winks and Maxine blushes…
Hawkman face palms…
