Y'know I kind of feel like when Megatron killed Tarn and said 'I want you to spend your final moments thinking of this: that everything you've done has been for nothing' he was kind of self-projecting onto Tarn? Mainly because at Megatron's statue, M and T had a conversation where Tarn explicitly asked if all the Decepticons in service to Megatron died for nothing, if HE did everything he did for nothing. (And I think M even gave an answer along the lines of 'idk I think we basically did'). And then after Megatron killed the DJD and Rodimus teleported in to rescue him, there was that silent moment where Megatron just stared at Rodimus not moving at all before he finally took his hand at the last moment.

It honestly feels to me like for a while, Megatron fully intended to murder-suicide himself. Murder the DJD, his monsters and his creation, and then take himself out alongside them, because he is also a monster. Because he also feels that everything he's ever done has been for nothing.

Goddamn it's no wonder I liked that scene so much LMAO, as someone who thinks villain Megatron > Autobot Megatron, literally one of his key traits is that Megatron basically took his pain/trauma/worldview and used it to lash out at the universe and try to subjugate it to his vision. So the fact that he took his own pain and brutally murdered the DJD while telling them the very same thing that puts him through so much agony is so very deliciously ironic. And a return, however brief, to the Megatron characterization that I know and love.

Unfortunately, most ‘bots with animal forms fell quite outside the bounds of Functionism! Following the disappearance of “Onyx Prime” from Cybertron at the end of the First Cybertronian Civil War, those beast-formers who had already not left the planet wound up largely excluded from the Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy, disparaged as little more than “throwbacks” from a primitive age. Initially, most beast-formers simply rejected Nova Prime’s burgeoning society and left to continue their life in the wilderness as they always had—hunting turbofoxes, foraging for natural energon deposits, and marking their territories. Elders who had lived through the reign of the Primes passed down traditional knowledge to younger ‘bots, who raised cairns and mounds to memorialize an era of peace and prosperity they’d never known.

With the passage of time, however, Cybertronian society continued to urbanize, pushing these last holdouts into smaller and smaller tracts of untamed land. When it became clear that these hardliners would not surrender their territory, Nominus Prime and the Senate passed legislation that would formally recognize a number of beast-form genera into the growing Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy—a legislative tactic that quite annoyed the Functionist Council!

Unfortunately, most beast-formers occupied a very low rank on the Functionist hierarchy. Within the bounds of “polite society”, the best that most beast-formers could hope for was a job at one of Cybertron’s many research and development firms, where beast-formers would be regularly used as test subjects for new surgical techniques, various addictive drinks, or new forms of electronic paint. A few, such as Krok, deliberately removed their transformation cogs and joined the Militant Monoform Movement in an attempt to distance themselves from their origins.

However, other beast-formers found lucrative jobs in Cybertron’s criminal underworld—some, like Scorponok, became frightening enforcers. Others operated black-market relinquishment clinics, catering to those rare Cybertronians who wanted to experience the forbidden thrill of experiencing life as a cybercat or lupinoid.

When Rewind kills Megatron in the past for the sake of the rest of the galaxy, it's actually Whirl who saves Megatron by giving him a new spark (where did he get a new spark from, you may ask? The answer is, Brainstorm was carrying it around) and therefore preserves history as everyone knows it (because apparently a world without Megatron is actually somehow far worse for Cybertronians than a war spanning millions of years. It was terrifying).

First of all, for the sake of chronological order, there was Rung being a badass when they found Brainstorm about to kill Megatron:

When Brainstorm can't follow through, it's Rewind that kills Megatron. And then Whirl drags Megatron's body away to a locked room to bring him back.

WHY IS THIS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HEARD OR SEEN OF WHIRL'S TINY DIGITS? WAS NO ONE AWARE THAT TINY DIGITS COME OUT OF HIS CLAWS? All the fanfiction is like, "Whirl can't do anything with his claws in the berth" BUT HE HAS MOTHER FRICKING TINY DIGITS. THIS MECH WOULD BE SO GOOD WITH HIS TINY DIGITS. HE JUST DID MOTHERFRICKING SPARK TRANSPLANT WITH THEM.

Hi! I've been reading your Miko x Tarn stuff and was wondering about if Miko was an adult in it or not? I know she's 15 in the show, but I don't know if you've explicitly stated her age in your AU.

I thought I referenced their ages, so I'm just fully stating it with clarification:

The Jasper Trio are adults. That was why Ratchet made scathing comments about giving up on their education and meaningful careers before he understood what their travels to Elsewhere entailed because they're so bright and they refused, in his opinion, to apply themselves. He was worried because humans are mayflies compared to his species. His short jaunt to Cybertron and now Raf is almost 20! That's 20-25% of a lifetime!! Miko and Jack are older!! Ratchet was gone only for a little bit!!!

(Ratchet has had moments where he's still coming to terms that his boy shaves.)

He only went twice and no more because it was too much for him to see decades erased from their bodies, seeing those strange features warp back into human skin and hair.

Prior to the cyberization, they're also far older than they appear. Jack wasn't kidding that they spent lifetimes together.

That's why the Primal Artifact converted them into full-framed Cybertronians instead of sparklings or mechlings. That kind of accumulated experience is written on their souls.

Think of it like Narnia series when the Pevensies siblings returned to England from adults to teens. It's that combined with whatever alchemical or genetic fuckery the Jasper trio decided to pursue at that run.

Jack and Raf had been thinking of getting certifications to get themselves covered with all the experimental things. Miko is the only one enrolled as she decided to use a student visa to keep her covered in the US.

tf1 megs is like. guy who is absolutely 100% convinced the system works and any pain it brings him is temporary until he grindset hustle cultures his way to a comfortable position. venerates megatronus because he is the stated fav prime of iacon's top dog, the guy who made the system work best for him. he feels personally betrayed when that system turns out not to work as he thought it did. he is not rewarded for his hard work and loyalty and belief, and then when he lashes out in a fit of anger he IS rewarded for it by the system set up by starscream and the high guard. so he leans hard into that so he doesn't have to think about everything else. and then that anger is what kills his bestie. so he triples down on it so he doesn't have to feel any of his other feelings. there is ideology there but it's not quite conscious yet. mostly what we see is a guy have the worst possible day of his life and react in ways just precisely wrong enough to keep the avalanche going.

tf1 elita is incredibly similar to him but you don't see her ripping people in half for it. and that is because: she is not the central character of the film. and also because: her belief in the system doesn't rely on a single person. and she's had a smaller betrayal to get her used to the taste before the larger one. i'm patting her on the head too.
