I just spent two hours fixing a cabinet door, which sounds so ridiculous, it should be a 10-minute job, but one of the screws got stuck in it so badly and would not come undone, and also I had no tools, I was using old broken scissors and a knife.

I had to fix it because my last roommate was a bit too violent with the doors and they got all wacky and unstable, and I'm getting a new roommate today; it would look so bad if her cabinet is immediately broken on the day she moves in.

Anyway I managed to fix it! I assumed it had to be an obvious easy solution because they're all designed for m*n to put together, and I was right, it was easy and obvious and I guessed how to deal with it just by looking at it. Feeling proud of my first cabinet fix!! I've never done it before or seen it done and yet I did it. And it only took 2 hours with appropriated tools.

Did the Kree Empire have any reaction when Thor was banished or Loki invaded? Did they demand reparations from Asgard?

I think they were outwardly unhappy about it, but secretly hoped that Earth would be wiped clean by either event. The planet was a liability for the Kree Empire, you see, as it contains the clearest surviving evidence of their extensive and extremely illegal genetic tampering in the form of Inhumans - evidence that couldn't be eliminated without drawing too many eyes, particularly from the Nova Empire, risking the tenuous peace that currently exists between the two major powers in the galaxy.

(not that they're happy with peace, mind you, but they can't afford to fight two major wars at once)

They might've tossed some strongly worded statements Odin's way, but they're not really in a position to demand anything from Asgard - it may be comparatively small as a rival empire, but it's a realm that's inaccessible by mundane means and it's full of battle-loving god-like beings even if you manage it.

Just saw a post on Twitter whinging about tanks who don't wall-to-wall pull in every single duty on FFXIV. There was no mention of what level of content in the initial poat, though when rebuffed by people mentioning new tanks/ARR duties, they were like 'Yea, okay but in level 90 ypu should always wall-to-wall or you are wasting everyone's time". I found this post because it was QRT'd by another FFXIVer and artist I follow and THEIR take was much better:

"If you load in a dungeon and immediately pull wall to wall without checking if your healer is ok with it, your mom's a hoe

If you're the healer and don't respect your tank's pace, your mom's also a hoe"

Made me chuckle and lookong through the original tweets comments... the OP of the quoted tweet (the one who said wall-to-wall) was very much making fun of anyone expressing logical and reasonable reasons why someone might not do it. And when someone was like, "If it'a too slow, just eat the abandonment timer", and OP was like "Nah, I'll just be annoyed and do the thing".

...then why are you whinging about it? Have to wonder sometimes. Like, if a person is regularly running duties throughout the game (not just MSQ stuff), then they've got time to get comfortable with their toolkit and their own style. I myself tend to be cautious with my pulls, but if a healer says "Feel free to pull more", I will.

Just... Please be careful with that request. I did that one time. Was a mess LOL. I would say if the tank does not have their full toolkit, wall-to-wall might not be a good idea. We get Rampart at level 8 for PLD, and that is our only mitigation until Reprisal at level 22. Then we get Shelltron and Sentinel at levels 35 and 38, respectively.

Just be aware what tools they have available, and if they seem to be having some trouble, give them some pointers! Don't be like WoW PUGs and vote to kick if the tank is having trouble, or being cautious. Speaking from personal experience - first run in a new dungeon with a friend and some randos. It was an issue with an impatient Hunter who kept asspulling everything. I was tryingto pull individual groups and focusing on busting casters and keep the healer (my friend) safe. Which is hard when I am mid-rotation and another mob pack shows up! Not a patrol! Just the Hunter not watching what he was doing and backing into shit. He put up a vote to kick, which my friend told me about and vetoed. Then my friend put a vote to kick him and then we got someone who wasn't a shitheel and finished the run.

Thankfully, my experience on FFXIV has been positive all-around, mostly because of video guides and also giving a heads-up to the group when it's my first run.

Okay, this got away from me (as rants usually do >.<). Just... Be patient and help each other enjoy the game and don't be a dick.

Despite my luddite tendencies this isn't meant to be a "smartphones are ruining society blah" take but I do find it kinda interesting how quickly they took hold of our material culture and how we conceptualize it.

Like I'm so tired of Spotify, and I figure it's cheaper in the long run (and better for artists) to buy CDs or digital albums/songs I like enough to pay money for than to pay for a subscription to a streaming service. Then Id still have the option of streaming music on free mode if I wanted, but I wouldn't be beholden to anything. In fact, I'm lucky enough to be in a position where, at the moment, the only major barrier to this idea is my phone's internal storage capacity.

Which is actually where I'm going with in this post. Because I can easily remedy that problem by buying a decent mp3 player for like 20 bucks. I was actually amazed to see that A.) they still make them and B.) these things have like 64 gig storage now. However, my immediate reaction was to go "oh but then I have to carry around a separate device just for music". Which like I used to do. My first cell phone was a "for emergencies only" track phone, and I didn't get a smartphone until I was 16. I saved up to replace my hand-me-down mp3 player with an ipod touch when I was 12, and for years I carried both the phone and the ipod around with me. I even handed both in when teachers collected phones, and didn't really get why everyone else thought this was so funny until years later.

Anyway, I just find it wild that I went from "2 separate devices as default" to "2 separate devices as strange" in like a decade. I wonder what other, less obvious, examples there are of this phenomenon in my life.

And because I couldn't turn archaeologist mode off if I tried, I wonder if people experiencing long-distant technological revolutions ever looked back on their old tools and went "wow I used to use this?"
