TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GRMN Yaris Rally Package

Available in Japan, the GRMN Yaris ‘Rally Package' takes the already impressive GR Yaris and adds an extra depth of rallying performance and flavour. Using the GR Yaris as its base the GRMN Yaris offers increased body rigidity, lower weight as well as fewer seats.

It features a close-ratio gear transmission and a low final gear set that has been refined in the field of motorsports. Close-ratio 1st to 4th gears make efficient use of the engine power band adding a little more urgency to the car’s performance.

In search of weight saving lightweight high-rigidity carbon (twill weave CFRP) has been used for the bonnet/hood, roof and rear spoiler. Combining these new panels with removing the rear seats has achieved weight reduction of approximately 20 kg compared to the normal GR Yaris.

To increase body rigidity the total number of spot welds has increased by 545 (compared to the GR Yaris) whilst rigidity has been yet further enhanced by applying 12m extra structural adhesive.

A rear-only roll cage also improves rigidity as well as harking back to the WRC Yaris from which this car draws its inspiration.

Both the weight savings and increased rigidity are designed to give more direct response to driver's input and enhance the performance of the GRMN Yaris.

Estamos frente a un coche que sólo pesa 990 kg y puede alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 180 km/h. No es un número que vayas a ver en la pista principal de Nürburgring, pero es lo suficientemente notable para un iQ #velocidad Pero lo que realmente diferencia a este iQ de otros es su transmisión manual de seis velocidades en lugar de la transmisión automática CVT que viene de serie. Eso por sí solo es bastante IMPRESIONANTE para un coche que no fue diseñado originalmente para ser un deportivo #ManualTransmission Además, este iQ cuenta con frenos de mayor tamaño, suspensión deportiva e incluso un diferencial de deslizamiento limitado para una conducción más agresiva. Esto se convierte en una locura cuando consideras que estamos hablando de un coche que originalmente estaba destinado a ser un vehículo urbano, no un bólido de carreras #racing ¿Sabías que sólo se fabricaron 200 unidades de esta versión? Esto hace que sea aún más atractivo para los coleccionistas y entusiastas de los automóviles. Así que si alguna vez te encuentras con uno de estos, es probable que sea una de las pocas veces que lo ves en vivo #rarities Pero incluso con todas estas mejoras y exclusividad, yo diría que Toyota se equivocó al no darle al iQ GRMN Supercharger la tracción trasera. Si ya vas a hacer un coche tan potente, radical y raro, ¿por qué no ir un paso más allá y hacerlo un verdadero deportivo con tracción trasera? En mi opinión, este es el mayor fallo de Toyota con este modelo y estoy seguro de que muchos de vosotros estaréis de acuerdo conmigo #controversia Para concluir, me parece un automóvil extremadamente interesante con su combinación de tamaño, rendimiento y exclusividad. Sin embargo, siempre tendré la sensación de que Toyota perdió la oportunidad de hacerlo perfecto. ¿Qué piensas tú? ¿Crees que la elección de la tracción delantera fue un acierto o un error por parte de Toyota?
