But now when doing his after lucky wheel review though, I understand that it wasn’t hoping for his time and racing against other competitors. No surprise when covered his past reviews of other cars he’d owned; whether it had ups and downs for handling, speed, and performance. As for the Lampadati Michelli GT itself, let’s just it still not worth using with during races more of less.

I'm currently reading Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. I pick my reads through a process of "bug my friends about what they're reading" and "wander around bookstores and libraries until The Cosmos sends me the book I need." The results are, in my experience, exceptional. I usually get my books from libraries, so I neither tab nor annotate, though I don't do it in the books I own, either. Usually if I have a particular theory or through-line I want to trace in a book I'll write up a little mini-essay or review about it, like a reading journal.

In general, I'm a fast, picky, flighty reader. I have absolutely no reservations about DNFing a book — I think the alternative is a silly function of sunk cost — if the author's giving signals that they're going to fuck the reader over, or if I'm just not interested in the approach the author is taking to their project. (E.g. A Sport and a Pastime, by James Salter, is a project about voyeurism and narrativizing. Love it! It undertakes this project by having a mythically handsome Yale dropout fuck a waitress for 200 pages. Did not love it. I made the mistake of finishing the book because I, like a fool, assumed he would at some point stop fucking the waitress and stumble into a plot. Life lesson learned: if an author has been fucking the waitress for at least 100 pages, odds are, he intends to keep fucking the waitress.)

You could argue that I miss out on books where the middle and ending makes the project work. I probably do. But my own view is that if I'm 30% deep in a book and the author hasn't given me a reason to trust them, it's because I probably shouldn't.

Yearly sports updates are tricky things to review, as some can bring big improvements, some minor improvements and some just update the stats. The first N64 Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey was a decent game and this is no different – literally. Everything feels the same and there don’t seem to be any additional options or features for the main game.

Other than player stats, the only thing I could find was that the practice mode has a few extra options, were you can choose between shooting, offence and defence. These just change how many players are on each team.

If you want to try out one of the Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey games, you may as well play this version, but it doesn’t really offer anything over the previous.

So, what’s changed in Gretzky ’98? At first glance, absolutely nothing, other than music on the title screen, and the player stats. Further investigation reveals that that’s about as far as the ‘updates’ go.

Gran Turismo Movie Review

A professional gamer of the video game, Gran Turismo, is given the opportunity to race for Nissan and become an real-life professional race car driver.

Gran Turismo was a film that I didn't have a lot of expectations for. It's August release date as well as a boring trailer only lowered my expectations. Yet, by some miracle Gran Turismo is was a pleasant surprise. If not, the biggest surprise of 2023 so far.

The first stroke of brilliance for Gran Turismo was making it a sports movie, rather than a video game movie. They took a real life success story from the Gran Turismo Academy (GT Academy) and brought it to life in a biopic. Doing this caused them to focus on the story they are telling rather than the video game itself. The story is relatively simple as it is the classic underdog tale with all the tropes and beats associated with it. Gran Turismo executes this standard story well but does not bring anything new to the table.

However, within this standard story we see a loving relationship between master and apprentice between Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) and Jack Salter (David Harbour). We watch the pair clash over racing strategies and guts into an almost father son relationship. Madekwe and Harbour have fantastic chemistry together as they bounce off one another. From Madekwe wide eye awe of the racing world, to Harbour being a natural father figure, they were great to watch on screen.

As for the racing elements of the film, Gran Turismo does not fail to deliver. The racing sequences are spectacular to watch. Through out each one you are on the edge of your seat as you feel the gravity and heat of bring in a 200 MPH racing car. The scenes are masterfully sown and shot together under Neill Blomkamp's direction. Blomkamp proves that he is a good director when given the correct material. Furthermore, these scenes cleverly use the mechanics of the Gran Turismo game to show the thoughts and actions of our drivers while they are racing. However, the editing was distracting and too flashy at some points during the race sequences, but was still an exhilarating ride to watch.

Overall, Gran Turismo was a pleasant surprise. It executes it's simple, underdog story incredibly well. While being filled with thrilling race sequences that will keep you on the edge of you seat. If you are a fan of the game, this might not be the movie that you expected, but you never knew wanted.

Toyota GT-86 Review.

I recently got the chance to drive a rare car in the Kenyan market; the Toyota GT86. It is also known as the Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ depending on which part of the world it was sourced from. It is a car that is meant to be fun but within the speed limit. You do not have to be doing any crazy speed to have fun in this car.It is not fast. It is also not the most comfortable in its segment. The rear legroom is almost non-existent.

First thing you realize is how low it sits. If you’re horizontally challenged, getting in and out of this car will be a work out . With my height, I had no issues getting in and out of the car. However, for people above 6'0 you will need to be almost as flexible as a gymnast. But once you’re inside, you realize the front is quite spacious. Driving position is excellent! Sporty but with a clear view of everything around you.

So now the part that’s interesting; how it drives. First thing I noted was how stiff and tight the suspension is. 100 metres into the drive and I could already tell it is one of those cars that you don’t have to brake before going into a corner. This is aided by the fact that it does not gather speed at an alarming rate when driving in a straight line. So when you get to corners you don’t have to shed a-lot of speed or brake. You just turn the wheel and it does as instructed. For our Kenyan roads with so many hazards when driving at high speeds, this really makes sense. You can a have a smile or two at 100kph. Just downshift before a corner, enjoy the induction noise, no brakes and accelerate out of it! You can slide it too if you wish. It is rear wheel drive anyway.

Now to the more technical bits, the engine. No plastic covers here. You see everything. It has both subaru and toyota labels. The engine produces about 200hp at 7,000rpm. The peak torque of 212nm is at 6,400rpm. Simply put, the engine comes alive at 6,000-7,000 rpm. That is where the car starts to feel fast on a straight line.Transmission was a 6 speed automatic and it was actually quite good. It loves to kick down since it knows this car needs to be at high rpms.

In conclusion, this is a car for someone who likes to have fun on the road but doesn’t necessarily want outright speed. And considering that you can get it at less than Kshs 2M, it makes it one of the bargain sports cars in Kenya.
