A fun thing about Medieval Irish Sreng mac Sengainn is that he is VERY LIKELY the reason why Firbolg in DND (and elsewhere) are portrayed as almost supernaturally tall -- he's described by the other Fir Bolg as "fer mor agarb aindiuit" -- "a very fierce, stubborn large man", and Bres, the ambassador for the Tuatha Dé who interviews him, describes him as "fer mor fraechda fornetmur, 7 airm aidble ingantacha aige. Fer agarb imdochair e fos, gan egla gan urumon aeduine fair" -- "a large, fierce man with large, remarkable weapons. A man without fear and without ??? [translated by Fraser as "awe"] for anyone".
This is the only reference we get to any of the Fir Bolg being large, which means that Sreng is very likely the template for the Fir Bolg any time they show up in fantasy media as large, including in DND.

Revealing the effect of AIN surface pits on GaN remote epitaxy
Remote epitaxy has been gaining attention in the field of semiconductor manufacturing for growing thin films that copy the crystal structure of the template, which can later be exfoliated to form freestanding membranes. However, harsh epitaxy conditions can often cause damage to the template materials, such as in the case of remote epitaxy of GaN thin films, promising materials for light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, and power electronic devices, on graphene/AlN templates. GaN remote heteroepitaxy has not been achieved by a standard metal–organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technique due to the high temperatures involved in the process. It has been reported that graphene placed on a substrate in an extreme environment such as high temperature or use of an active gas in MOCVD gets damaged due to chemical instability, which causes failure to exfoliate grown GaN films. Against this background, a team of researchers led by Dong-Seon Lee, Head of the Department of Semiconductor Engineering and Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, has recently used remote epitaxy to grow GaN thin films on graphene/AlN templates by MOCVD and investigated the effect of surface pits in AlN on the growth and exfoliation of these thin films.

Its not that i dont get peoples anxieties around ai generated images leading to fewer commercial job opportunities for illustrators rather that idk if it will really make a dent given for a lot of cases digital illustration could already be subbed out for stock photos/illustrations or low effort graphic templates etc (and if those options werent available i dont trust that employers wouldnt just, underpay for illustration gigs)
Ive fiddled around with ai enough to know that its not any faster than slapping together stuff in photoshop or doing simple graphic design
But more than that i personally feel the best solution rn is to support people in other fields in the fight for better wages - since a lot more people would buy or commision art if they had disposable income.
On a similar note i think the gig economy is just, precarious to begin with and its worth asking why there arent more salaried positions in the arts
Maybe my perspective is different because i dont do digital art and most of the artists i know also dont. Its a somewhat different field to navigate, traditional arts that is. Lot less commercial commisions and a lot more reliant on sales or securing grants funding. The only contract work ive done is curatorial.
I would kill for a salaried curatorial job.
But yeah while ai will definitely change the field idk if it will make it any worse. And it sucks because i do find ai art interesting and i do wonder if it can work in ways other than text prompting. I mean i know it can i just would like to see that really explored. Doing cool or weird tech experiments is unfortunately also stiffled by profitability. Its worth asking what we could do with ai outside of its commercial applications. I dont see it as different from other art mediums in that sense - in that they are all weakened by the demands of capitalism.
I do hope that ai imaging continues to suck a little though. I find the flaws in it more interesting than if it could perfectly replicate human processes. Its why i like playing around on artbreeder a lot. If you can work out why things are going wrong you can push that in interesting directions. Ive gotten good at using the slider controls to do other things. Artbreeder uses GANs whereas most text based generators use diffusion models, but im not techy enough to explain the difference.
Another problem with ai i do think, its intimidating to try and learn about and requires a base knowledge. I do think not understanding emerging tools absolutely puts creators at a disadvantage in terms of the development and direction new technologies go in.
Im trying though so i will report back if i actually get to a point i can explain it. Ive seen some analogies but id rather understand it as it is...

Transforming Legal Services with Generative AI
The legal industry is known for its traditional methods and stringent procedures. However, the advent of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), has started to revolutionize this field. Among the most groundbreaking innovations is Generative AI, a subset of AI that creates new content based on existing data. This blog explores the role of Generative AI in the legal sector, its potential applications, and the benefits it brings to legal professionals and clients alike.
Understanding Generative AI
What is Generative AI?
Generative AI refers to algorithms that can generate new content, be it text, images, music, or even complex data sets. Unlike traditional AI that focuses on analysis and prediction, Generative AI creates. It uses techniques like deep learning and neural networks to understand patterns in data and produce new, similar content.
How Does Generative Model AI Work?
Generative Model AI employs advanced models such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs). These models learn from a vast amount of data, identify patterns, and generate new data that mimics the learned patterns. For instance, a generative model trained on legal documents can produce new documents that follow the same structure and language.
The Role of Generative AI in the Legal Industry
Document Generation and Review
Automated Document Creation
One of the most time-consuming tasks in the legal field is document creation. Generative AI can streamline this process by automatically generating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. Lawyers can provide the AI with a template or a set of requirements, and the AI will produce a draft, significantly reducing the time spent on initial document preparation.
Efficient Document Review
Reviewing documents for accuracy, compliance, and consistency is another labor-intensive task. Generative AI can assist in this by quickly scanning through documents, identifying errors, and suggesting corrections. This not only saves time but also reduces the risk of human error.
Legal Research
Advanced Legal Research Tools
Generative AI can enhance legal research by quickly sifting through vast amounts of legal texts, case laws, and statutes to find relevant information. AI-powered tools can generate summaries of legal precedents and provide insights into case outcomes, helping lawyers build stronger cases.
Predictive Analysis
By analyzing historical data, Generative AI can predict the likely outcomes of legal proceedings. This predictive analysis can inform legal strategies, helping lawyers advise their clients more effectively.
Personalized Client Interactions
Chatbots and Virtual Assistants
Generative AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can handle routine client interactions, providing information and answering frequently asked questions. These tools can generate responses based on client queries, ensuring that clients receive timely and accurate information.
Customized Legal Advice
AI can also assist in providing personalized legal advice. By analyzing a client's specific situation and comparing it with similar cases, Generative AI can generate tailored advice, helping clients understand their legal options better.
Benefits of Generative AI in Legal Services
Increased Efficiency
Generative AI automates many routine tasks, freeing up time for legal professionals to focus on more complex and strategic aspects of their work. This leads to increased efficiency and productivity.
Cost Savings
By automating tasks such as document creation and legal research, Generative AI can significantly reduce operational costs. These savings can be passed on to clients, making legal services more affordable.
Improved Accuracy
AI systems are less prone to errors compared to humans, especially in tasks involving large volumes of data. This leads to more accurate document creation, review, and legal research.
Enhanced Client Experience
With AI handling routine interactions and providing quick responses, clients enjoy a more streamlined and responsive service. Personalized legal advice and predictive analysis further enhance the client experience.
Challenges and Considerations
Ethical and Legal Implications
Bias in AI
One of the significant challenges is the potential for bias in AI algorithms. If the training data contains biases, the AI's outputs may also be biased. This is particularly concerning in the legal field, where impartiality is crucial.
Legal Liability
The use of Generative AI for legal services raises questions about liability. For instance, if an AI-generated document contains errors, determining responsibility can be complex. Clear guidelines and regulations are needed to address these issues.
Data Privacy and Security
Handling sensitive legal data requires stringent data privacy and security measures. Ensuring that AI systems comply with data protection laws is essential to maintain client confidentiality and trust.
Adoption and Integration
Integrating Generative AI into existing legal systems and workflows can be challenging. It requires significant investment in technology and training for legal professionals to effectively use AI tools.
Future of Generative AI in Legal Services
Continuous Improvement and Learning
As AI technology evolves, Generative AI will become even more sophisticated and capable. Continuous improvement in algorithms and learning models will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of AI in legal services.
Wider Adoption
With the benefits becoming more evident, the adoption of Generative AI in the legal industry is expected to grow. More law firms and legal departments will invest in AI technology to stay competitive and provide better services.
Collaboration with Legal Professionals
Generative AI is not about replacing lawyers but augmenting their capabilities. The future will see a collaborative approach where AI handles routine tasks, and legal professionals focus on strategic and complex legal work.
Conclusion
Generative AI is transforming the legal industry by automating routine tasks, enhancing legal research, and providing personalized client interactions. Its benefits include increased efficiency, cost savings, improved accuracy, and enhanced client experience. However, challenges such as ethical implications, data privacy, and integration need to be addressed. As technology advances, Generative AI will become an integral part of legal services, augmenting the capabilities of legal professionals.

Kim2091 chaiNNer Templates
Kim2091 made these templates, I am just explaining their use and showing examples. The example chains are pretty simple, but I understand how they can seem overwhelming which is why I have made this. You do require some basic knowledge on chaiNNer and upscaling to make use of these since I will only be going over the relevant nodes.
All credit goes to Kim2091
SIMPLE IMAGE UPSCALE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This should be familiar to you already. This is the basic upscale chain consisting of Load Image/Load Model/Upscale Image/Save Image nodes. These are the only nodes you actually need to run an upscale. View image and View Image External are nodes that let you preview your upscale before/after saving it. You can use the switch on the bottom left of a box to make it inactive during an upscale, allowing you to leave it connected.
SIMPLE FACE UPSCALE
Tumblr media
Original (Old picture of H.R. Giger)
Tumblr media
Normal upscale
Tumblr media
Upscale with added Upscale Face node and GFPGAN (lowered custom scale on upscale face node for size req)
Tumblr media
The Upscale Face node is kind of a special node, it will only connect to models that are specifically for face restoration (FaceSR) I don’t believe you will find them in the normal database here is the link for GFPGAN which I am using here in the Load Model node connected to the Upscale Face node (the other model can be any model just the one connected directly has to be FaceSR).
I can't explain exactly how it works, I do know that GANs self-discriminate to produce much more accurate images than normal (in my experience using ESRGAN models which are also used in most of these examples) Here's a Google Doc that can better explain. The difference with a normal GAN model and GFPGAN, or similar FSR models, is that GFPGAN is specifically trained for head/face upscaling. Since it only affects the face, you still need a normal upscale model for the rest of the image. Here are the other two FSR models I know of RestoreFormer / CodeFormer.
If this interests you, search for more broad photography restoration, it’s a very technical/specific photo editing skillset and involves work beyond just this. I recommend starting with Rememorie they do some really awesome work, they also do make use of GFPGAN on occasion so I would look through their resources or reach out to them, they have a Reddit account and a personal website I know of in addition to YouTube.
SIMPLE SPLIT TRANSPARENCY
Tumblr media
Original image (regular non-upscaled frame half ereased in PS with outer glow layer style)
Tumblr media
Upscaled with normal chain
Tumblr media
Upscaled with Split Transparency (ignore the banding, I’m not using a very good example for this)
Tumblr media
This chain is used for upscaling images with transparency. It separates the alpha from the rest of the image with the Split Transparency node and upscales each independently before merging them with the Merge Transparency node. You would mostly be using this for textures, but it has a bunch of other uses as well.
Normal upscales only read rgb not rgba (which is why the middle picture is grey on the edge it’s not set up to read the alpha channel), you used to have to separate the image manually in something like GIMP and upscale each separately before going back to remerge, now we have chaiNNer.
SIMPLE VIDEO ITERATOR
Tumblr media
Original GIF
Tumblr media
Upscaled GIF
Upscaled to MP4 format
(note: custom scale was lowered to fit 10mb upload requirement on GIF, trust me it looked the same either way it does look a bit better if you expand it) Something that you won’t see very commonly used, but it’s there, is Video Iteration which is just upscaling videos (mkv, mov, gif, mp4, avi, webm). You will not get the same results as you will from upscaling frames. I don’t upscale videos using this method so there’s better people out there to explain it and better upscaling programs to do it in. This is just what this chain is and what it’s for.
SIMPLE IMAGE ITERATOR
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This chain is a batch processing chain. I have some examples here of one's I typically use. The difference between this one and mine is this one is saving to the same folder and using the same image names but adding the model name to the end so there’s no need for a Math node. You do lose a bit of control going with this method.
SIMPLE BLENDED OUTPUT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have used a x2 model against a x4 model to showcase what this chain does. It’s just two separate upscales overlaid on one another with a Blend Images node and an Opacity node to control the visibility of the overlay layer (upscaled image). If you are familiar with Photoshop, you will be very at home with the Blend Images node since it uses the same/similar blend modes as PS layers.
CAPTIONED COMPARISONS / TWO MODEL COMPARISONS / SIMPLE COMPARISON
CAPTIONED COMPARISON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is how the chain looks for a basic comparison. This is what people use for their model previews, you’ll see this used a bunch in general. There’s basically three presets that kind of do the same thing so I’ll only be explaining it one time with the Captioned Comparisons preset and showing examples for the other two (Two Model and Simple.)
The node that matters most in this chain is the Stack Images node. This will stack our images either vertically or horizontally into one image. You can hit the button with the plus sign to add more images to your stack.
The Add Caption node will add the name of the model being used for the image as text either on top or at the bottom of the image. By connecting it to the name of the Load Model node, it will use that as the caption so it changes dynamically and you don’t have to type it out. note: the size of the text in the comparison is also determined by the size of the image see a better example below.
TWO MODEL COMPARISON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(since the third caption node is connected to the load image node it’s pulling from the image file name, break the green line and type in a custom caption or keep it in mind while naming your files.)
SIMPLE COMPARISON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No captions, no OG image, just a simple comparison of two models.
