Granny in Paradise isn't exactly a tour-de-force, but it isn't half bad either so if you are a Lode Runner fan looking for another spin on your retro game of choice, or a Granny PC player after a portable version of your online fave, then Granny in Paradise mobile should fit the bill nicely. The addition of power-ups to the formula does indicate effort and, unlike some other more lazily repackaged mobile games, Granny in Paradise is a passable variant rather than a tawdry re-tread.Įven so, given that the basic gameplay mechanic is nigh on 30 years old, the game can get a little repetitive after a time and the absence of a level editor (as featured in the new PC versions) or any mini-games to break up the flow is noticeably felt after the first ten stages.īut don't let this put you off. You're given these after you exit each stage by climbing inside a large flower once all the cats in the level have been saved. There are also flowers to collect that don't actually affect the game besides boosting your end of level score. For example, watering cans help you to grow vines that you can climb and umbrellas allow you to float gracefully down to platforms that otherwise would be out of reach. There are various power-ups around the levels that aid you in your quest. Pressing up or '2' allows you to climb ladders or vines and the centre point on the thumbstick or '5' digs a hole. To move Super Granny, you simply have to press left or right on the thumbstick, or '4' and '6' respectively. You can avoid the Tikiman by digging holes for him to fall into (like in Lode Runner) and when he's incapacitated you can walk over his head to lead the cats to the exit and safety. Of course, being a granny of exceptional superness, Super Granny is not about to stand for this and so sets about reclaiming her feline chums.Įssentially the game is a platform puzzler where you have a given number of cats to collect while avoiding Dr Meow's goon, the sinister masked villain, called the Tikiman, who pummels Super Granny senseless if you allow him to catch up with her. You play an old lady called Super Granny who has had her cats abducted by the nefarious Dr Meow when she is on holiday (what are the chances!). Or maybe it would - us young-uns are so out of touch with the elderly these days.Īt any rate, the paradise portrayed in Granny in Paradise is anything but conventional, even though its underlying gameplay - this is the mobile version of Sandlot's popular PC casual game of the same name - is itself a rehash of one of the oldest formulas in gaming's history, Lode Runner. What it probably wouldn't involve is perilous missions to save stray cats requiring the old dears to climb ladders, elude dangerous assailants and use overgrown exotic flowers as pan dimensional portals for getting about. First Doctor - The Romans saga.

It was fun to see everyone so chill and in one place for a while. It showed the Doctor did like to hang out for a while in some places/times. Before all this running around lol! This is also peak first Doctor behaviour. He is so fun in this one- he fights a guy off while giggling and is responsible for Nero setting Rome on fire and just laughs about it. Chaotic gremlin energy and I love it.

Second Doctor - War Games saga

The concept was really cool for this adventure. Plus it was the first time we really got the lore behind who the Doctor really is. We meet time lords etc. The finale is obviously super sad but iconic.

Third Doctor - The Daemons saga

This was really hard to choose because 3 is my fave classic doctor and there are so many cool adventures he went on. Being shrunk into the alien tv/zoo thing was such a neat idea but I had to go with this because it had so many crazy things going on. The Master (best version imo) pretends to be a priest. Crazy witchy woman who over acts and blinks too much. That white gargoyle… also the devil costume- peek costuming. And how could I forget that bizarre finale? It was giving wickerman for a second. Very funny… to me, probably wasn’t the initial intention.

Fourth Doctor - The Talons of Weng-Chiang

Possibly a controversial choice but I really loved the Phantom of the Opera vibes I got from this. Also Leela is my favourite companion and she was perfect in this saga.

Fifth Doctor - Black Orchid

Simply because it was fun and it was the last time this little family had any happiness or peace 🥲

Sixth Doctor - the Mysterious Planet

Because it introduced Sabalom Glitz who was a charming character that I’m glad they brought back later on. Also it kicks of the trial saga which was essentially the beginning of the end for Six, sad!

Seventh Doctor - Paradise Towers

Very cool concept. Invented slang we use today. Beware the grannies… I just loved everything about this story. Lots of good spooky fun.

Eight just has his movie but he was so good in Night of the Doctor.

Ninth Doctor (love of my life) - Fathers Day

Such an interesting deep dive into his and Rose’s relationship. I also love the concept of a companion learning what happens if you mess with time. Very langoleers. Huge character growth for Rose (and the Doctor too).

Tenth Doctor - Rise of the Cybermen

I love this little throwback to the second Doctor adventure where the Cybermen had a very similar takeover plan. Only in this one people got changed. The idea of the Cybermen terrify me greatly and having a character as vital as Jackie Tyler being turned was… UGH! I still get chills.

And that’s where I stopped watching honestly. Once Moffatt took over I tapped out of Doctor Who. I decided at that point I liked what I saw and I was happy to leave it there. I did watch the new Anniversary specials in which Wild Blue Yonder was my favourite. Nice spooky story. But otherwise I’m just content to be a freak for Nine and the classic series lol.

Snow and NORA Headcanons & Thoughts

*I have not read the novella or other extras. My information is based, mostly, off the games and the tidbits I skim here and there.

Why I find NORA fascinating and the implications of Cocoon society:

What we know

NORA is headed by three people: Snow, Lebreau, and Gadot.

Snow and Gadot are 21, raised together in the same facility. They are stated to be like brothers.

Snow is also a brotherly figure to Maqui. Assumedly, the same can be said of Gadot given their age-range.

Lebreau and Yuj are 19, Maqui is 17. Lebreau has known Snow and Gadot from when she was young—the three are childhood friends.

Officially, Lebreau and Maqui bring in the main source of revenue to fund NORA through the cafe and garage.

Yuj is considered a ‘junior’ member… whatever that means. NORA consists of five people. How are there even rankings?

In Episode 0, all of them are raised in the same facility. (I want to know more about their dynamics, damn it.)

Questions I have

How is it possible for four young adults and a teen to set-up and run a cafe/bar/restaurant/garage on a beachfront?

Did Snow and NORA become orphans from losing their parents? Or were they admitted into the facility as >1. This… might be answered in the novella, admittedly. If I had the attention span to read it.

What the hell are their last names?

My headcanons

Considering Cocoon is considered a sort-of paradise, where each and every human is taken care of, I am assuming the following:

Poverty does not exist. Everyone is fed and sheltered. Jobs only exist to provide humans with a sense of purpose.

People who pursue work do-so to maintain a certain standard of living, status, or sense of purpose. Meaning, you don’t need a job to survive, unless you want to live in an area like Palumpolum or Eden.

A lot of low-skill jobs are automated. They have flying cars. Anything’s possible.

Which also means, if you’re content with a relatively low-cost standard of living, being a cashier in a supermarket is totally fine, because you’re not being paid poverty-wages! Actually, those jobs are likely automated.

Bodhum is a small, rural town with low cost-of-living. How else do you explain three young adults with no other relatives to speak of, be able to afford and maintain a beachfront cafe/restaurant? Have you seen how empty those beaches are? Hell, have you seen Lightning’s house? Her primary struggles are related to being a parental figure and role model to Serah, but nothing on the costs of raising another child.

Considering Cocoon is a paradise, that means everyone is provided adequate resources to succeed. It’s how Lightning is able to afford such a large house and support her sister; how three orphans open and maintain a beachfront cafe.

Pursuing higher education is not seen as a requirement or the “next step”.

Natural disasters never happen. Bodhum is stuck in summer year-round. When it rains, it’s because the environment needs to be maintained.

Which leads me to additionally headcanon…

Snow, Gadot, and Yuj are not actually “jobless”. They might lack official titles, but considering their roles in maintaining the cafe, helping out with the garage, maintaining good relations with their neighbors, etc. They do work, just non-standard work for little-to-no profit. Snow, in particular, likely offers his help pro-bono i.e. fixing fences, catching cats, aka the stuff you help your granny with.

Yuj has a separate part-time job to be able to afford his fashion hobby. Eden is pricey, so he works on the side. Either that, or the cafe/garage brings in enough money for him to splurge.

Lebreau knows how to do her taxes. Along with being a fantastic cook, she’s also business-minded. It’s why the cafe is in her name.

Maqui also knows how to do his taxes. Also, a literal child genius. This isn't even a head canon.

Or maybe no one on Cocoon pays taxes, because there isn’t any need when you, literally, live right next door to your gods. Pothole in the road? Boom, fixed in the next hour by a weird sludge monster that doesn't need to be paid, because it lacks the concept of fairly-compensated labor.

Maqui and Hope would get along. They’re both child geniuses and share an older brother-figure through Snow. Hope knows how to operate ancient, machinery for some reason.

Lebreau is a lesbian.

(I, uh, don't have any specific headcanons for Gadot. Sure, he could know how to do his taxes–but... would he, really?)

The update should resolve the bugs you maybe had in the older version. As said in the other post, we changed 2 major grass textures. We added a small park and modified few things in some community lots.

This an unpopulated world and it’s entirely up to you to choose what kind of Sims you want to play with ;)

There are 2 or 3 ways to populate a world and many threads around the web to show you how step by step. Do not worry, it’s quite easy indeed :)

I have everything sims 3 related but I installed my game until Island Paradise 1.67 ( patch ) and there are too some cc but not much really. The listing with credits is on our website.

IMPORTANT : Delete any previous version of Lost Cove before installing the new 2020 version !!!

Currently finishing my easter chocolate stash... so it cames like the obvious thing to ask... what about Henry and sugar, chocolate, sweets...favorite treats?

Why do I feel like he has a crazy sweet tooth? Anyhoo, yessss, this!! Enjoy!!!

England definitely has a lot to choose from when it comes to chocolates, but there were certain things that were either extremely hard to get, or just weren’t produced, and so, every once in a while, you treat yourself to a small box that comes with international postage and a plethora of things from back home. 

Though you never intentionally plan it, most of the time, the box comes when Henry’s off shooting somewhere, and you’re able to indulge in your own time, savoring the items over the course of a month or sometimes longer. 

Not so, this time. 

The box is still filled to the brim with ketchup, dill pickle, all-dressed chips, and even the Party Mix is still intact, but when you go searching for the butter tarts, you notice that the one and only package is gone. With two small pies per package of Granny’s, you think back to the night before and wonder if you hadn’t inhaled them with your fourth glass of wine. Confused but not surprised, you grab a pack of Smarties instead and go about your day.

When you peek into the box the next day to grab the ketchup chips, your confusion grows; the package of Wunderbars has been opened, and you know you haven’t touched those yet, always saving them towards the end because they’re one of your favorites. Tip-toeing to the study, you peek through the crack in the door, looking for any evidence that a certain someone has pilfered your stash. Instead, you find Henry deep in concentration, a brush in one hand, and a tiny piece of a model in the other. You can’t help but feel your heart warm as you watch him enjoy one of his many hobbies, and backing up slowly, completely forget about candy bar, figuring if he did take one, you’ll hear about it at dinner. 

Day three and your thief is getting brazen...and hungry apparently. Gone are the all-dressed chips, a full size Mr. Big, and a Cherry Blossom, along with a bottle of Crush you’d forgotten was even in there or you’d have put it in the fridge. The most appalling crime however, is the missing Coffee Crisp. The crown jewel of the candy bar selection from the box, it’s what you always save for last, and always for a moment where you can completely savor the chocolate and coffee combo that you love so much. 

Eyes narrowed and you make your way back to the study, not caring if your footsteps are heard this time. 

Opening the door to the study, you find Henry mid-game, your favorite chocolate bar locked between his teeth like a dog with a bone. Your eyes widen and though you’re slightly miffed, you can’t help but to snap a quick picture, knowing it’ll make your day in the future if you need a pick-me-up. 

Without a word, you slip your arms around Henry’s shoulders, hugging him a little tighter than usual before making quick work of taking the bar out of his mouth. Only one bite taken out of it, you take an overly-large bite on purpose, moving into his line of sight, eyes glaring in playful accusation. 

“You’re only allowed to eat these if you have a Canadian passport, mister,” you chide him, using the bar to emphasize your point as you wave it around like a wand. 

“Last I checked our queen was still on your money, love, therefore...” Henry gives you a shit-eating grin before snatching the bar back and taking an equally big bite, pleased as punch with himself as he chews. 

“SHE’S A FIGURE HEAD!” You screech, all but throwing yourself at him, landing in his lap as you try--and fail--to reach for the bar he’s lifted high over both your heads. 

“I’ll share the last bite with you! Call it a truce!” He laughs, having to bring his arms down when you start tickling his ribs.

(Warning: bad puns ahead)

Now remember the au we were just talking about. Well the similarities stop right after The Red Lady tore out his core and used magic to keep him alive.

Blixer aged as an obedient, if not, sassy prince and eventually came the time, Blixer had had enough of his mother's bs an left the kingdom. Where ever he went, he brought the corruption with him into the open water.

And of course people didn't like that. And being as big of a target as he is in the water, he fled into the mountains for a couple of years.

After that though, he notcied a nearby mer village ge had been watching for a while now were getting surrounded by the corruption. Knowing it was kind of, sorta his fault, he dove in and surrounded the village, keeping the villagers safe.

From there he mostly slept. The villagers were too scared to see what would happened if they pissed off the giant laviathan that is more or less protecting them, and he was more or less two tired (guess he's a bicycle) to do much except watch.

So they were like that for awhile. Until one day, someone approached Blixer, leaning up against him as they started to read. It was Ace, and she either didn't seem to notice who she was up against, or she did it on purpose and was crazy. But either way, it started as a kind of thing with them.

On slow days, Ace would rest on the bridge of his nose and they'd read together. On busy days, he'd watch the village traffic.

He'd never admit it, but he'd gotten attached to the little town.

Things were all but quiet until one day something happened at the tree of life. A beacon of hope was ignited and Blixer couldn't place why, but it spiked his anxiety. He put a barrier over the water's surface, to make them less noticeable and lowered himself to the seafloor, constantly watching the surface.

His anxiety only spiked the other's anxiety, but Ace was the only one that could talk to him and actually get answers out of.

Ace: what's wrong?

Blixer: *bearly uttered a small whine*

Ace: hey....it's ok...did that light scare you?

Blixer: I....I can't put a finger on it. It filled me with such a feeling of-of DREAD. I can't stop shaking.

Ace: it's ok! We're right here, nothing's going to hurt you.

Of course Ace was wrong. But at the same time not really. The heroes arrived somehow in some way.

And I'm not sure what to put here. But somehow in some way, they managed to convince Blixer that he needed to go to paradise with them.

Once there Blixer questions why he was even there in the first place. And that's when Cyan shows him the core.

And Blixer SCREAMS.

Mafia au

Ok so I'm just gonna say this here. Grey means the boy is DEPRESSED. And as Pirate is blue and Laviathan/Prince is pink. This one here is Grey.

Now as grey as he is, the only thing he can do is glow like a nightlight, his eyes and teeth being the only things that are a constant. And you can BET YOUR KEYBOARD that he uses that to his advantage later in life.

But lets start back at the beginning. He grew up in the Golden Kingdom in the area that was very much dangerous to live in.

So much so you're bound to lose a limb. Or in Blixer's case, all of them. It was a very grizzly sight. He lost them all at once before his instincts kicked in and in one fell swoop, not only killed the guys that did it, but fled the kingdom without getting caught.

There he found himself in the swamp town.

After that it got better.

He found an abandoned store house, stuffed to the brim with musical instruments that the town didn't use anymore. And being a dabbler of music, he was pretty much in heaven.

He was playing a Trumpet one day when he's spotted by this yellow circle named Buddy. He wanted to be an aspiring musician but there was no one that could teach him. He was about to give up when he heard a trumpet being played.

Buddy literally begged Blixer to teach him how to be a musician. And Blixer didn't even last long enough for Buddy to pull out the puppy dog eyes before he caved in.

Literally the next day as Blixer was playing his morning piece Buddy shows up with like a fifth of the town following him.

Blixer didn't notice till he heard the applause right behind him, nearly scaring him out of his skin.

And that's how he started a Payless job of teaching the neighborhood kids how to play music.

Whenever he's not teaching, he'd go out into town and help around whenever he could. After all he's practically using THEIR things for his own personal gain, also he was bored so it wasn't so bad.

And that's how he met Granny! She's this old kind Hexagon that often buys so much food, Blixer has to rush in before she accidentally drops any of it.

Around this point, Blixer was rather well known around town and of course there were going to be some rumors circling about that targeted him. He has killed people after all, surely word would get out about this grey monster.

And he was almost attacked about it too! But that's when his students came to his defense, saying that there was no way he'd do that.

And that was the start of the Mafia filled with nothing but Bards. They will, no joke, play Fler de lis with a piano and a rubber chicken at ur funeral, everyone wearing a straight af face that you would laugh at, if it weren't so serious.

Of course Ace would eventually join in, being one of Blixer's personal friends besides Buddy. But unlike most au's Ace is a Rouge, often leaving town and returning with one story or another to tell.

Ok enough back story

The story starts Ace coming back to town with the group of heroes.

In the path where Ace is just traveling with them, the heroes approach Blixer and Cyan steps up, saying that they're related.

Silence fills the air as Blixer and Buddy slowly turn to look at each other. Before bursting out in laughter.

Yeah good luck with that Cyan, you two look literally nothing alike

(In this au though, Cyan and Blixer are siblings but how tf would Blixer even once think "oh hey, this guy that looks NOTHING LIKE ME must be family" he'd sooner believe him and Buddy were related than Cyan.)

Cue compilation of the heroes trying to warm up to Blixer with everyone's advice and proceeding to freak Blixer out because it's obvious that they're trying too damn hard for something as stupid as family.

(Meanwhile back at the mainland the Tree of Life is in trouble and the rumored fifth hero is supposed to help the heroes, when joined up with the others, save the tree)

In the branching path where Ace is a caretaker, the last time Blixer saw her was when she was leaving to return Spades's triangle to the tree, making her promise to not bond to it.

When Ace shows up he's happy for all of two seconds before he sees the glowing mark only he and heroes could see. He suddenly falls silent and leans up against Ace's chest. Before anyone could get an answer out of him, he walks away, heading to his room to let out all of his frustrations out on his punching bag.

Remember when I mentioned the whole hybrid thing? Well since Blixer's connection with HIS caretaker has been cut up, he's just a normal shape. And if he was raised right, he could've retained his color. But he's just stuck in the inbetween.

So what I'm saying is, in his fits of rage, starting from his hands and eyes, he start turning pink. Buddy is the only one aware of Blixer's condition and is the only one allowed to follow after him to help calm him down.

It doesn't last as long as most, as he's more sad than angry. He breaks down into sobs and Buddy is there to dry his eyes.

He's scared that since Ace is a caretaker, he'll never be able to see her again. Which is a VALAD fear, seeing that caretakers usually go into paradise which is open to very few people.

But after some talking to Buddy, they conclude that people come and go and even if your heart still screams, you can't stop them from moving on. And that they'd talk about later.

But the conversation still took a while, so the heroes had went off to explore.

Only to find themselves cornered in an alleyway by a random Beat.

Ok so remember when i said that Blixer would take full advantage of his glowing eyes and teeth?

This is a GOOD example of it.

As the heroes were cornered, sudden music fills the air as siloetes covered the rooftops of the buildings around them. And in the center of them all was the Cheshire Cat himself with the biggest grin on his face.

Initiate the battle sequence with random dance to the beat incorporated into it.

It turns out that the Beat was another one of Blixer's students and he was just waiting for his class when this group of shapes bonked him on the head.

Sword Wolfy! I thought of Repede as well XD He's really cool though. What do you think of the recently revealed characters? I'm so down for granny professor!

I LOVE PROFESSOR MAGNOLIA SO MUCH!!

Out of the primary region professors, she’s only the second female professor we’ve had (since Professor Burnet was originally from a side game and wasn’t the primary professor in Alola, even though imo she should have been), but although I love Professor Juniper with all my heart and always will, one thing that kind of bummed me out about her is that it’s stated in the first Unova games that she inherited her research from her father, and he often comes along during the plot to answer questions that she can’t. To date, Professor Juniper is the only main series professor that has to rely on another character to help her with her professor duties to the player, and since she was the only female professor at that, it smacked of (probably unintentional) sexism. But I really think that’s changing with Professor Magnolia. Professor Magnolia is an old woman (so standing among the ranks of professors like Oak and Rowen), and so far as we know her practice and her research are her own, not inherited from or helped along by any male relatives. (That could change, of course---it was an NPC who told us that Lusamine inherited Aether Paradise from her father, after all, but at the moment Magnolia stands alone and that’s great.) She does have a relative who plays a key role in the story, but that relative is her granddaughter, another young woman who is a researcher in her own right, not because a male character was a researcher first and then passed that onto / inspired her.

So I’m really excited for Professor Magnolia, and to a slightly lesser extent for Sonia. Of course, having only two primary region female professors out of eight is still an imbalance, but it means a lot to me that Game Freak is trying now, and I just hope that they don’t slip in a line of dialogue about how Professor Magnolia does this because her father / husband / grandfather / whatever did it. The male professors all have their professions because they chose them, because they were inspired, because they did the research. They stood on their own, so I’d like to see the same for our female professors, too. A female character in an academic place of authority shouldn’t have to have inherited it from a male relative to earn her place. She should be able to have her place just like the other male academics in the story. That’s what it seems like we’ll be getting from Professor Magnolia, and I hope that’s the case.

As for the other characters, I’m not as excited for them, but I do like them. Again, I’m somewhat excited for Sonia, though there’s something about the look on her face as she twirls her hair (her smile is almost a smirk) in that one clip that makes me wonder if perhaps she could be more antagonistic than is being let on right now, and I hope that’s the case. Champion Leon looks really interesting, although his clothes are . . . something . . . and I really hope that Game Freak isn’t going to try for a “the universally adored Champion is actually secretly EVIL” plot twist because he’s only our second black Champion (the first being Iris, and she was only the Champion in direct sequels that didn’t sell as well as their predecessors iirc), and so that wouldn’t be a very good look for them. Hop seems boring af, no offense to him. He seems like just another friendly rival, and since we’ve been getting those since Gen III with Wally, I’m so beyond tired of them. That said, it was mentioned that he was one of our rivals, so I’m hoping the other rival is the jerkass I’ve been wanting for so long (though please, please make the jerkass rival a girl, I’m begging. Girls can be assholes, too! LET HER!!). The last thought I have on Hop is that he is clearly the least favorite child, given that his brother has a perfectly acceptable name like Leon and his name is, well . . . Hop. It kind of gives the impressions that his parents did not want to have a second child, but did anyway, but really phoned it in by just opening the dictionary and picking the first name their eyes landed upon. Poor Hop. As for Gym Leader Milo, he’s a grass-type specialist, so he’s unimportant to me lol. I could set his entire Stadium on fire in less than two seconds. No more consideration needs to be given lmao.

But anyway, I’m really excited and I want to learn more about these characters, as well as about characters that have yet to be introduced. I want to see the other rival(s)! I want to see the antagonists! I want to see the second and final evolutionary stages of the starters! We learned a lot in this Direct, but there’s still a lot of information they withheld from us, too. Waiting until November is going to be killer.

10 Songs I’m Currently Obsessed With

Thank you @toomuchawesomenessforyou for tagging me! Here are the 10 songs I’m going to replay constantly until I get sick of them!

“Meitei - Inebriety” — Rico Sasaki From the game I am currently loving and highly recommend, Tasokare Hotel. It’s a mystery puzzle visual novel about a hotel situated in between life and death for lost souls who have forgotten their identities and have no clue whether they are dead or alive. This song, along with the game’s soundtrack, has elements of jazz. So if you’re into songs that make you feel like you’re at an old-fashioned bar, give this a listen.

“Boy With Luv” — BTS ft Halsey I’m a fan of BTS and a fan of Halsey, and the music video has them together? (bi panic, everyone’s pretty send help) Also, the song has a very fun, cheery summer vibe to it. Nice to listen to on a sunny day when you’re walking around.

“Home” — Paradise Fears Now we’re getting into the genre of music I’m usually into. A friend recently recommended this to me, and although I don’t know her well, I think listening to this and also relating to it has told me a lot about her. It’s funny how music can connect people like this.

“Eastside” — benny blanco ft Khalid and Halsey I just like the love story this song tells. Despite the couple’s imperfect lives, they find freedom in each other. It also reminds me of Ride or Die from Choices, specifically if your character is romancing Colt Kaneko.

“Oh Ms. Believer” — Twenty One Pilots I find something really hopeful in a story about loving someone imperfect and continuing to support one another through the hardships. It can sometimes bring me more comfort than those fluffy, happy songs about love (not that I don’t like listening to those songs as well from time to time XD).

“In a Crowd of Thousands” — Derek Klena and Christy Altomare I think I might be exposing myself as a hopeless romantic. Anyway, this song is from the musical Anastasia and it’s not a love song, per say...but it does tell a part of the character’s love story. I’m a sucker for the trope where two characters meet once, separate, and then fatefully meet again after some time has passed. It’s used all the time in K Dramas

“Sincerely English Cover” — Poopturds It’s hard work to make a cover of a song in another language but I think they did beautifully! It really captures the story of Violet Evergarden.

“What’s Up Danger” — Black Caviar and Blackway I only recently watched Into the Spider-verse and the moment where this song plays? Powerful.

“Bamboo” — Far East Movement ft Jason Zhang and Kina Grannis Another friend introduced me to this song and I love it. I like how it has both English and Mandarin lyrics, kind of like two different worlds joined and existing in tandem. As the daughter of immigrants, growing from these different worlds and thus unable to separate myself from one or the other, that’s my personal appreciation of the song.

“Never Been In Love” — Will Jay Came across this while scrolling through YouTube and I’m happy I did, because it’s such a positive and fun song with what I think is an important message — romantic love isn’t the most important love and you can be happy without romance.

Am I Your Girlfriend?

Summary: Emma never thought that she would stay for long in that new sleepy town, she was a foster kid after all. She also didn’t expect to fall in love, but here we are.

She doesn’t know how it happened, but she is in love with Killian Jones!

It all started in September, the first day of school.

She was the new kid, and she tried to keep to herself and stay out of everyone’s way. Well, she tried, but she didn’t really succeed. Because she literally fell in someone’s arms.

“Oh, steady there,” he said in a british accent.

“Sorry.” Emma tried to go around him and leave.

“Don’t worry about it,” he smiled. “Are you new? I haven’t seen you before.”

“Yeah, first day actually,” she answered rather awkwardly.

“Then let me introduce myself - Killian Jones, sophomore.”

“Emma, Emma Swan. Also a sophomore.”

“Pleased to meet you,” he beamed at her. “Do you need any help getting around?”

“No, I am good,” she replied and left him alone at the hallway.

She thought that was the last she would see of him. But boy, was she wrong. It turned out, they had all the same classes. Like all of them. From Math, and English to History and Chemistry.

So, yeah, it wasn’t really her fault that they started hanging out. How could she not when they spent all of their time in school together?

On the plus side he fit in well with her small group of friends. Ruby, who she met in gym class and had become something like her best girlfriend. The raven haired teen thought he was funny and good to look at, and it didn’t hurt that she had her eyes for his friend, Victor. Even Graham, who helped her find her English class and who she started to consider as a friend,  though he was okay, and he was never easy to accept new people.

Eventually, they started to see each other outside of school as well. He took her to all of his favorite places around Storybrooke - Granny’s for milkshakes and onion rings, the movies because “Come on Swan, they’re playing a Harry Potter marathon,” and the docks to watch the boats. “They are ships, Swan.”

They were becoming fast friends, but that’s it, nothing more. Friends who spent all of their free time together or with their shared group of friends. And they liked hanging out with each other, and sharing their hopes and dreams and their pasts. Which was a first for Emma.

As the weather became colder, they spent all their time at Killian’s place. Emma’s foster parents were nice; Mary Margaret and David were doing their best to make her feel at home. But still, she liked to hang out at Killian’s house better. He lived with his big brother, Liam, who worked a lot, so it was usually the two of them. They watched movies, snuggling on the couch, doing their homework and having dinner together.

When Liam and his girlfriend  Elsa, were home, they all hung out together. They played board games or cooked. Her favorite pastime was watching Liam teasing Killian, like when he called him “little brother” and Killian corrected him, but he did so while smiling. She knew they cared a lot about each other because it was just the two of them.

To top it off, she didn’t feel like an intruder in their home; they always made sure she was comfortable and included. Emma felt at home there; she felt safe. She didn’t know why yet, but she was about to figure it out.  

During their Christmas break, she went to his house to hang out like usual. They were supposed to study as well since they had some math problems, and Emma could use his help for that. Math wasn’t her favorite subject.

Liam opened the door and welcomed her in.

“Hi Emma,” he greeted with a smile. “Killian is upstairs in his room. I will get him for you.”

“Thanks, Liam.” She moved to get her shoes off, hearing Liam calling from upstairs, “Killian, your girlfriend is here”.

She froze. Girlfriend? When did Killian got a girlfriend? Why hadn’t he said anything to her? Who was she? A sudden feeling of jealousy started taking over her. Did Ruby know? Was it Ruby? No, it couldn’t be. She was dating Victor.

Suddenly, she remembered an incident that happened at school before the break. Killian was on his way to his locker, and she went to surprise him when he stopped to talk to Tink, the cute blonde from history class who always wore mini skirts. Was she his girlfriend?

Just then Killian was coming down the stairs with a grin on his face.

“Hi love, I thought we could watch a movie or we could go out for a hot chocolate at Granny’s.”

Emma was still standing by the door, so he approached her and  touched her arm. “Swan, are you okay?”

She tried to smile and nod when the realisation hit her.

Liam was referring to her as his girlfriend.

She felt relief for a moment and then shock. Was she his girlfriend? Well sure, they spent all their time together, he always watched after her, she cared about him a lot, and yeah she loved him, but girlfriend? Realization hit her like a brick.

She loved him! She did love him. She was completely and totally in love with him.

Now that she’s able to admit it to herself, where does she go from here? She doesn’t know what to do.

She smiles at him and replies, “Yeah sure, let’s just watch a movie.” She spends the whole time thinking about it.

Killian senses she is distracted, but he knows sometimes she needs space before she can talk to him, and he accepts it.

By next week, she is still distracted and she keeps avoiding him.

He knows she went out with Ruby two days ago, because Victor came over to play video games and he told him. He even joked, asking him if they were having trouble in paradise. It’s not like they are a couple and they have to always be together or inform the other when one of them is having other plans, but they always talk about their plans.

He knows it’s just him she is avoiding. On the one hand, he is relieved she has her friend to talk to, but it still hurts that she doesn’t talk to him.

So he decides to confront her. He goes to her place, but she isn’t there. Her foster mom told him she went for a walk, so he knows there is only one place she could be.

It turns out, she is there, sitting on a bench by the lake, where he took her the first time they hung out, just the two of them, and he wanted to take her to all of his favorite places around town.

He stays for a moment admiring her from a distance, she is wearing a red coat and jeans, her hair is loose and she looks stunning. He takes a deep breath and starts walking towards her.

“Hey Swan, I thought I might find you here. Is everything alright?” he asks when he is at a hearing distance.

She jumps a bit at his voice. She was so lost in her thoughts, she didn’t heard him coming. She quickly recovers and answers.“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t it be?” She then gives him a fake smile.

“It’s just that we haven’t seen each other a lot this week and I have a feeling you are avoiding me” he admits, and there is a hint of pain in his voice.

She hurt him, but she doesn’t want to hurt him. She loves him, and she doesn’t know if he feels the same.

“Everything is fine, Jones. It’s just a bit busy with the holidays and stuff.”

“All right then,” he murmurs, and she knows he doesn’t believe her. He always was able to read her like an open book. “Are we still on for New Years?”

They had made plans some time ago. He and Liam would go to her place and spend New Year’s Eve with her family. And on New Years they would all share dinner together.

Her foster parents had invited them over after Thanksgiving when they found out that it would be just the two of them. Mary Margaret said with the time they spent together, it would be rude to separate them on such a holiday, and Liam had accepted their invitation since he wasn’t much of a cook.

“Yes, my foster parents are all over the preparations. You should see how many recipes Mary Margaret has searched through in order to find the perfect one for a New Year’s pie.”

“Okay. What do you want to do now?” he asks, afraid she prefers to stay there alone.

“Am I your girlfriend?” she blurts out, and manages to leave him speechless.

“Uh… hem…” he coughs. “Excuse me, Swan?”, he says while scratching behind his ear.

“It’s just that… nothing. Forget about it,” she says and turns around to get up and leave. But Killian is quicker and puts his hand on her arm before she does so.

“Emma, please don’t hide from me. Do you want to be my girlfriend?”  he asks with a shy smile and his heart is beating so fast he thinks it might explode.

“Liam called me your girlfriend the other day. So am I?”

“Do you want to be?”

She doesn’t meet his eyes, and instead she looks at her hands in her lap

“Because I would want nothing more than to be able to call you my girlfriend. To be able to kiss you as I’ve thought about so many times before. To hold your hand and hold you in my arms. You are so beautiful, Emma, inside and out, and…”

He doesn’t get to finish his thoughts before Emma leaps forward and kisses him. It takes him a moment to react, and he kisses her back, as he’s dreamt of doing so many times before.

When they break the kiss and  touch their foreheads together, he asks breathlessly. “So, what do you say Swan, am I your boyfriend?”

Her “Yes” is answered between kisses.

8 Years later:

They exchange vows at the very same lake where they shared their first kiss. Mary Margaret and David, her now adoptive parents are sitting near Liam and his wife, Elsa. Their friends are all there to witness this important moment of their lives.

After the minister pronounced them husband and wife, just before Killian bends his head to kiss her, he whispers, “Am I your husband, Swan?”

Her answer is once again swallowed by his kiss.

And she couldn’t be happier that she is madly in love with Killian Jones.
