The Gem Assessment

After a rogue gem meddled with the latest injector batch, all kindergardens have been placed under extreme scrutiny. Every soldier that pops their way out, gets scanned and tested for flaws, strengths, and durability.

However, Orange Diamond prides herself on having the BEST soilders of the empire. Even if she has to bend the rules to do it. Grey does not approve o this but she doesn’t particularly care.

If a gem is strong enough to pass her extensive testing, they will be added to her ranks. Thus a large amount of off colors are kept when they should have been Recycled because while they weren’t exactly how they were supposed to, they were improved.

The last set of gems to emerge from the kindergarden (about a decade later than the others), however, are an entirely different ball park.

The Wrath of Sekhmet is based on the 1999 film ‘The Mummy’ and follows the original story of Sekhmet to the best of my research abilities, but also includes highly fictionalised elements.

As the archivist of the Museum of Antiquities in Cairo, you’ve collected a lot of knowledge over the thirteen years you’ve worked there. Yet, there has been nothing that fascinated you more than the story of Sekhmet.

A goddess of love turned goddess of war with a bloodlust so deadly that her father, the sun god Ra, was forced to fashion a necklace that Hathor could wear in order to contain Sekhmet.

The necklace glittered with gold and diamonds, but it was the single ruby that sat nestled at her throat that was the real treasure.

Said to contain a drop of Ra’s blood, it was a gem so powerful that it could grant lesser creatures invulnerability when the necklace was worn.

And now, your brother thinks he’s found the legendary Temple of Sekhmet. A temple that was supposedly built to house the necklace.

This could be the adventure of a lifetime and you refuse to be left behind.

This is an 18+ wip due to violence, depictions of blood and gore, optional sexual content, death, elements of body horror, and abduction.

FEATURES

✧ Play as a female, male, or nonbinary mc with cis and trans options. Choose your pronouns and titles separately.

✧ Romance the suave archaeologist, the stoic leader, the bubbly best friend, or the calculating adventurer. Poly routes are available.

✧ Set features of the mc: they’re at least half egyptian and as an archivist, mc is intelligent, studious, and knowledgable about history. While they can be grumpy and indifferent, there will not be the option to be unnecessarily cruel.

Maddox [M]

The bane of your life and one of the only people you trust to always have your back. He’s more of a lover than a fighter and has a silver tongue that could get him out of any situation, but don’t underestimate his protectiveness over you. Older brother prerogative and all that.

Elijah/Elodie Caddel [M/F] [RO]

El is charismatic, quick-witted, and familiar with the temple of Sekhmet making them the perfect companion on your quest. However, for all their charm, they are notorious for keeping everyone but Aksel at a distance, so it is a surprise to all when they quickly seem to develop a deep fondness for you. As well as a wicked protective streak.

Menna Bakir [M/F/NB] [RO]

As a Medjai Chieftain, Menna is responsible for the lives of many. For that reason, they have learnt to show little emotion, although it is noted that they soften around animals and now it seems, you. Once their trust has been earned and they become more comfortable with your group, you’ll see a much more relaxed and even teasing side to them.

Nakia/Nubia Hassan [M/F] [RO]

N can be utterly ruthless when it comes to getting what they want for the museum, but with you they're almost always very bubbly and friendly. They're your childhood best friend and your biggest supporter, and without them, you wouldn't be taking this trip across the desert to discover the secrets that lie in wait.

Aksel Madsen [NB] [RO]

While they seem lazy and unbothered, it doesn’t take long for you to realise that there’s something not quite right about them. They’re too observant, too intelligent, and too calculating. Despite this, you wouldn’t class them as a bad person, especially not when you’ve seen the way they look out for El and, on occasion, you.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote this year?

This is really hard because I have my favorite aspects of each pairing that make them unique. That said, this year was the first time I shared a fic for Varric and Elodie, and I had a lot of fun writing them specifically.

10. What work was the quickest to write?

Definitely Salving Touch. I sat down and wrote it in one sitting at midnight after playing Baldur's Gate for the whole day.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I have several favorites again this year, but this moment between Savreen and Ranjit is especially dear to me because of my friend and Savreen's creator and her reaction to it. It's a little long, but I think it's worth it.

“I want to do what is right, what is my—” “Your duty. Yes. But what do you really want? What does Savreen want?” His words cut her to the bone, ripping through her flesh like a freshly sharpened blade slipping on a cutting board. The cold that blooms over Savreen’s skin, dewing like sweat, could almost be blood.

“I—I want—” She wants to run, to stay, to cry and scream. She wants Tali to understand her feelings; she wants Tali never to know how she feels. She wants to run into the river, splashing in the water until her fingers and toes go numb. She wants to go home, to Highever, and she wants to find Arl Howe and she wants to make him feel pain, the pain he’s made her feel, deep under everything, under the shell she’s built around herself. She wants to run off, here and now, with Ranjit, going anywhere or nowhere, it doesn’t matter. She wants to take his hand and kiss each and every bone within his body, and she wants and she wants and she wants. She wants so many things, so many uncountable things, and they scare her, those shining gems, tumbling over each other like beads, scattering as though from a broken necklace. He’s right. She doesn’t want to want anything, not as she feels the shame creep, hot, up her cheeks. The dirt is wet, and it seeps through her pants. “It should bring you as much joy as my duty to you brings me.” With languid movements, smooth, almost as though he’s trying not to startle a songbird, Ranjit steps closer, kneels in front of Savreen, stretches out his hand, offering it to her. She stares at his palm, the way his glove creases in the same spots as his skin. She could never forget the shape of his palm, the map of his skin, the feel of his hands—they are as dear to her as her own fingers. “Will you take my hand?” Again she stares at him, her eyes lost in his as she tries to determine when, exactly, she forgot what her duty meant to her, when she forgot herself. “What are you thinking about, Savreen?” When Ranjit speaks, Savreen closes her eyes. “Does it matter?” She asks. “Always.” She takes his hand.

Ranking Tommy’s Podcasts.

My ranking of Tommy’s podcast appearances. Just my personal preferences. xD

1- Eboys Podcast. It’s the first one he did so it’s extra special for me. But also the guys on it had a real understanding of streaming and youtube so were really able to engage with Tommy on a lot of good topics and had actually watched some Dream SMP stuff. The earlier look at Tommy while he was still getting used to his level of fame and going to college etc is great too. They were really nice and instantly hit a great dynamic.

2- Impaulsive. Controversial choice maybe xD? It helps that this one is really long (more is better!) and also they pushed Tommy for genuinely hard questions and it came with some cool insights showing his more sensible side. Tommy was on excellent form as much as some of the questions seemed a little much and they were sometimes talking around each other. That just heightened my enjoyment of it for some reason. xD

3 Colin and Samir’s interview. This is recent so its fresh in my mind. I might actually change my mind and rank it above impaulsive? Genuinely good to hear Tommy getting to discuss his opinions on youtube and the platform in depth. This one is very focused on the topic of youtube and content creation but it’s a satisfying talk all the same. 

4 What’s Good podcast. Tommy talking to Miniminter is a rare gem. It’s fun and charming and you got that good contrast of someone who grew really quickly as part of the Sidemen who was now more chilled out about youtube after having done it for years and was now in a stable place to Tommy who’s still really in the game of trying to grow. The topics themselves were less meorable - I believe Tommy had been on a lot of podcasts around this time so there’s less new topics but still excellent vibes. 

5 The Cutting corner. Now that’s where it gets technical. Podcast where Tommy can talk about being an editor and the making of his youtube vids and such. It’s a podcast where his editor Larry was on the week before, his other editor Elodie the week before that and yeah it’s the podcast where Tommy gets to nerd out about fonts for ten minutes. Really good if you’re fascinated by editing though more niche. Host is excellent. 

6 Banter. This was a hard one to place. It’s only 30 minutes and its Tommy chatting to Karl and Sapnap. Very cool but less special as it’s more like friends catching up with each other. Also its only 30 minutes. I like my podcasts long.

7 Chuckle Sandwich Podcast. Schlatt, Slimecicle and Ted Nivison - it feels like this one should’ve been great but I deducted a lot of points for them spending way too long talking about body spray. Ugh. Mostly pretty alright though, just I don’t think the subjects were that great.

8 Happy Hour Podcast. Alright but so many bland questions. Like why so long talking about sandwiches and explaining what minecraft was and trying to start beef with KSI? I don’t think the hosts quite realised Tommy’s level of fame at that time as clickbait drama was totally unneeded for views. xD Some good moments still as Tommy was funny but a bit weaker.

We have first emergence! This year's first to spring are the newer Elodie Double Asiatic Lilies (Lilium Asiatic cv 'Elodie') from Breck's Bulbs- ordered as a gift in 2020 for my 30th birthday💐 Their first bloom was last year and of course everything is always scraggly looking on its first bloom, so I'm very exciting to see how these gems do this year!

Song Review: Italy

I heard rumours that Marco Mengoni is considering changing the song, so I hesitated to write a review. But best do it when the song is still freshly selected. If it changes, too bad.

Marco Mengoni - Due vite

Personal opinion: A beautiful ballad. Very strong and emotional. Even though it’s not the most unique choice from Italy, when you put a song like this among the selected Eurovision entries so far, it definitely stands out quality-wise. Usually Italian entries take me a while to warm up to, but this has already captivated me (way faster than Brividi... sorry not sorry). It delivers an emotional impact that doesn’t come easily from your usual Eurovision ballad, while still being a solid, well-sung entry. Bravo!

Prediction: Top ten for sure. Italy never fails to deliver with these kinds of entries. Let’s just hope that Marco doesn’t make the same mistake as Mahmood and Blanco did and remembers to rest his voice between rehearsals. 

Thoughts on selection: I love Italian music and Sanremo is always packed with quality. The problem is that the selection is hard to follow due to the overly long shows and the fact that we only hear the songs as they’re performed, which means we don’t have much time to familiarize ourselves with the entries before the final. Miraculously, I had time to listen to all of the songs prior to the final this year - usually I only pick a select few that made it on the top of the rankings. And I’m glad I did, because there were some underrated gems in the mix. In the end, my favourites were Elodie and Anna Oxa. It would be nice if Italy sent a female singer in the near future.

This represents a rite of passage through many Dubois: villified by other people for their own game, painted as the villain and demonised even. This happened to especially the women like Blanche, Jude, Elodie and Yvonne, sometimes by their own family members. It also represents rebirth and growing up fast.

If the Dubois are something, is rebellious and ahead of their time. Thoughts of the day after  the week after - Sanremo 2023 So The level of the line-up was a tad disappointing (and I know Sanremo songs always grow, but the ungrateful comparison with 2022 and 2021, two years which turned out to be incredible, can't be helped) and for me so was the way whole thing ended The top 5 should have been more diverse, and absolutely NOT just for the sake of it, but because imo it's simply unrealistic for those 5 to all have deserved to be there Ultimo's song was subpar even compared to other songs of his and while the song was cute I don't think I would have seen Mr. Rain in the top 3 Madame, Lazza, Elodie, Tananai and one between Anna, Marco and Coma_Cose would have been my ideal top 5, but once again the biases in this country don't fail to show up (Of course Anna would never have got that high anyway, as someone said, it's like she was playing the same match as everyone else but in a different field where she was the only one present lol) Mind you, I'm happy for Marco, he's a good guy, he's so talented (I have actually enjoyed his music since he came out of XFactor) and I'm sure he'll fare well in ESC (apparently he really wants to go this time and I even heard him speak some quite good English) I just would have preferred for something different to win, since it was there and it was good Now, to my absolute favourite things of the week! - Elodie and her fashion choices I really liked her song as well, but I especially love how hard she purposefully decided to go in looking as good as she did while singing it

- "Il bene nel male" and Madame in general I've been vibing to this gem nonstop since last tuesday and the disappointment of not only not seeing it win but it not even being in the final 5 is unquantifiable I think one of my favourite aspects about this is how unique and non-generic the story it tells is I love the grace in her ungracefulness, her gestures and face movements, how her performance steadily grew a little bit in intensity every day of the week, I love her strange fashion sense as well

(By the way, the studio version doesn't hold a candle to her live interpretations, so I'm resorting to every kind of 🏴‍☠️ to pry them from RAI's cold hands before they erase them from existence :"" )

I love the way she smirks here!

A Sanremese icon in the making - Giorgia and Elisa's duet Hands down the highest moment of the week was elf and fairy queen joining their kingdoms here lol

The duet itself was not just a gem, it was the whole treasure chest, and also well, you know winner and runner up being supportive to each other keeps me alive and thriving :" I had never seen Giorgia on stage enough to notice this, but despite her history as a singer with one of the greatest voices it's like every time she's as nervous as the first Elisa was so cute being there for her, there's this backstage video where Giorgia clings to her like she's her safety anchor or something and that's the sweet wholesome shit I like to see on my national television , 11/10 made Sanremo worth it

YES YES YES ABSOLUTELY OKKO IS SUCH A GOOD SHOW AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

my memory of what's where is a little fuzzy because i binged seasons 2 and 3 within the space of like 3 days with my friend (who told me to say he loves the show so much he rewatched it entirely 4 times. hi dmitri if ur reading this) but things pick up SO MUCH in season 2 (assuming thats where u left off, darrell taking over boxmore was end of s1) and it's genuinely such a fun season. eps like your world is an illusion, tko's house, the entire arc with point prep (not biased bc elodie is one of my fav characters), all in the villainy, project rayway, I LOVE THEM <3 overall s2 just feels like the show's finally settled into itself. like the later parts of s1 werent at all bad but you could still imo tell the show was still finding it's footing, meanwhile s2 is STRONG!! the character development, expanding relationships btwn characters and WORLDBUILDING!!!!!!!!! 10/10 season genuinely one of my favourite pieces of animation ive watched ever

s3 was rushed because of the show's cancellation but honestly given what they had the crew did SO GOOD!!! there's parts where you can clearly tell they wanted to do more (i won't say which bc they're all major plotpoints and i dont want to spoil) but again, it's good regardless. not AS good as s2 in my opinion but that's the fault of noone except cartoon network for being wee bastards and it's got SOO many gems. like i thought let's meet sonic would be a really weird crossover but it was FUN and i genuinely enjoyed it!!!! i liked the rad centric episodes in this season a lot, radical rescue was a really sweet ep : ) the run of episodes from carl to the finale are genuinely INSANE i was having a blast the whole time, and again despite time constraints the finale was such a sweet fitting send-off for the show.

honestly overall as someone who dipped out of most cartoons bc a lot of them didn't feel like they had any real substance (have been watching another show with my other friend that was big on here a while ago and it was just... not good LMFAO) okko felt genuinely like eye opening it was amazing. the designs the animation the way you can TELL the crew put so much love into the show, i will never forgive cn for cancelling it and i will never forgive myself for not watching it earlier LMFAO.

sorry for the small rant but like GENUINELY the show is so good and if you're thinking about watching/continuing it DO IT!! you will not regret it :D
