Headcanon: Cyno and Tighnari Sharing an S/O
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cyno and Tighnari have very different personalities, which creates a unique dynamic when sharing an S/O. Cyno is more stoic, serious, and dedicated to his duties as General Mahamatra, while Tighnari is practical, witty, and highly knowledgeable as a forest ranger. Their S/O loves how they balance each other—Cyno’s calm and strength with Tighnari’s intellect and humor.
Tighnari is often the one to tease both Cyno and their S/O. He’s quick-witted and enjoys playfully pointing out the odd quirks both of them have. He might casually tease Cyno about his terrible jokes, saying things like, “You really don’t need to subject *both* of us to these puns,” but secretly, he finds it endearing that Cyno tries so hard to amuse their S/O.
Cyno, on the other hand, is incredibly protective of both Tighnari and their S/O. He may not be as vocal about it as Tighnari, but his quiet, intense loyalty is always felt. He’s the type to stand guard while Tighnari and their S/O work in the forest, ensuring their safety. When the three of them are together, Cyno is constantly aware of their surroundings, watching over the people he cares about most.
Despite Cyno’s seriousness and Tighnari’s focus on practicality, the three of them often find peace in simple moments, like sitting together under the stars after a long day or sharing a quiet meal in the forest. Their S/O brings a sense of calm and warmth to both Cyno and Tighnari, allowing them to relax and enjoy the time spent together.
Cyno and Tighnari have a playful, friendly rivalry when it comes to winning over their S/O’s attention. Cyno, though not as vocal, might use his competitive side to try and one-up Tighnari during their conversations or in card games like Genius Invokation TCG. Tighnari, meanwhile, knows how to charm their S/O with his vast knowledge of plants, animals, and the environment, making Cyno roll his eyes but smile fondly all the same.
Cyno isn’t great with showing affection openly, but his S/O and Tighnari have learned to read between the lines. His small gestures, like offering his cloak when it’s cold or silently standing closer during dangerous situations, speak volumes. Tighnari might even joke about it, saying, “Cyno’s version of saying ‘I love you’ is standing like a silent bodyguard,” but it only makes their S/O appreciate Cyno’s subtle ways of caring even more.
In contrast, Tighnari is more forward with his affection. He loves to gently tease their S/O and Cyno, brushing his hand against theirs when talking or casually wrapping his arm around their shoulders. He’s also the one most likely to break the silence with a witty remark or joke, lightening the mood whenever things get too serious.
With their S/O, the trio finds a way to share responsibilities and maintain harmony. Cyno’s leadership and strategic mind, paired with Tighnari’s practicality and deep knowledge of nature, create a strong team. Their S/O loves how they can rely on both of them in different ways, whether it’s Cyno’s calm assurance in dangerous situations or Tighnari’s advice on practical matters.
Both Cyno and Tighnari have their own ways of showing care for their S/O. Tighnari, as a forest ranger and healer, is naturally more attentive to their physical well-being, always making sure they’re well-fed, hydrated, and healthy. Cyno, though quieter, is always there with a steady hand, offering a reassuring presence and making sure they feel safe, no matter the circumstances.
Sometimes, Cyno and Tighnari get into playful disagreements over how to best care for their S/O. Tighnari might insist that their S/O needs rest, while Cyno believes they’re ready for more action. Their S/O often laughs at the two, appreciating how much they care, knowing they’ll always have two very different but equally supportive people by their side.
In the end, the balance of Cyno’s protectiveness and Tighnari’s humor and care creates a fulfilling, dynamic relationship. Their S/O is the anchor that brings them together, making their trio stronger than the sum of its parts.

intro and wanted plots
Hello, Gnostic Hymns. I just wanted to give a little introduction and thanks, as well as offer up Jing Yuan for any wanted plots.
My name is Duncachino, and throughout Gnostic Hymns' life, I've done a lot of background work and generally kept to myself, as I wasn't writing in it. I've written the commissions and the Lantern Rite ask meme that went around earlier in the year. While I've struggled to find motivation in writing, I have been working very silently in hopes that you all enjoy the prompts. I'm also happy to hear new ideas about prompts going forward, as we look to the future.
I'm 22 years old, and my dms are always open. I can be quite reserved in larger chats mostly due to anxiety, but I'm plenty stupid for the both of us in dms.
I've played through mostly all of Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Honkai Impact 3rd, though I am of course subject to having missed things.
If you have any questions, just wanna chat, or need something in general, I am at your service.
That being said, this is also a wanted plots thread! Very, and I mean very few characters actually inspire me to write the way Jing Yuan does, and I would like to get him rolling as soon as possible.
Genius Invokation TCG: I think a strategy game like Genius Invokation TCG is right up Jing Yuan's alley. While I'm not the most versed in the game itself, I have played through the basic missions and gotten a little familiar at least with the original cards, and am willing to learn the newer cards. I also would just love to get Jing Yuan into Teyvat, since I feel the setting isn't actually as strange to him as it would be others.
Quarrel Clique: The obvious parallels to between the Xianzhou Luofu and Liyue aside, I also think the fight club was a funny prompt. I find that writing combat and actions is where my strength is, and would like to play to that a little. Lightning Lord is NOT invited.
Need for Speed 3: Penacony Drift: I personally just want to drive a car. Since I'm sure he has some experiencing basic experience piloting, I think this could be quite a silly prompt if the other person has no clue what they're doing.
Belabog Excavations: In my mind, this one is a little slower when it comes to pacing. Of course, per the nature of it, combat can easily happen, but I think this prompt would be incredibly fun for the angle of a more dialogue focused prompt, with the goal taking a background focus.
And of course I'm also happy to plan out threads unrelated to the ones posted for skill points. Just shoot me a ping in the server, dm me on here, or on discord.

me starting this: okay, I've broken it up into rotating-POV scenes, and I know I want to start the Barbara conversation in Kaeya's scene after Jean wakes up, but I'm not going to worry about how right now. It will come naturally.
me now: how will Kaeya transition this distraction-conversation naturally into- oh, I know.
"You're welcome. And in that case, I'll have to write to my contact before you can make any response, so there's no reason not to have that lunch after all. Since it will be your day off, you might even schedule some more time with her. Isn't the Cat's Tail having a special Genius Invokation TCG event that afternoon?" "I doubt that Barbara would be excited about that as you are," Jean says, but he can hear amusement in her voice beneath the strain. "Don't be so sure. I've played a few matches with her in the Cat's Tail after work. She has quite a good deck, you know. Though I suppose I have to say so when she has my card on it." "Does she? I haven't had a chance to play with her yet." That startles him. Kaeya knows he's more enthusiastic about Genius Invokation than most of Mondstadt, but Jean *had* seemed to enjoy it when he coaxed her into playing, and Barbara is always ready for a match when he approaches her for one. How have they not played together yet? He's managed to get Diluc to sit down with *him* for a few matches, and Jean and Barbara are far better at coordinating their affairs. When they need to coordinate, that is. When the Knights and the Church need to work together, or they share a project for the common good. Their communication is more visible and polite, but come to think of it, they don't actually collaborate much more often than he does with Diluc. The only time he's seen them work together for personal reasons was that visit to the Golden Apple Archipelago a few years ago, and even that could be seen as for Klee's benefit. "Our cards are complementary, after all. Isn't that why you have us in your deck?" "That isn't the only reason, but it is true. How similar are our decks?" "Ah." There's a hopeful note that makes Kaeya pause, then prevaricate. "Hers is more focused on drawing additional cards. It lets her do plenty of elemental tuning." "I see." Right through the way he'd dodged the question, by the tone. Jean sighs, and it's strange not to feel the breath of air around him when it's that heavily, and then says, a little forced, "That does sound like a good strategy for ensuring you always have enough dice of the right element." "There's other uses for it too, of course. She's more likely to have just the card she needs in hand that way. If you invited her to the event, you'd have a chance to see her in action."

Genius Invokation TCG
Genius Invokation TCG is a card game that is featured within the open world action-based game Genshin Impact made by MiHoYo. The card game features characters and enemies from the game but in card form and you use their abilities to win against your opponent. What ability and card power-up you can use is dependent on the elemental dices your roll and how many of each element you get during a round.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I like about the designs is how they showcase the characters really nicely and how clean the art looks. In the game there's also a little loop idle animation on the character cards which just makes them look even nicer in my opinion.

Planning Cyno's birthday in secrecy was always relatively problem-free. His work didn't always allow a weekend of serenity, a breather of a day, however: no matter the wait, Cyno would have a gift - multiple, usually - awaiting his triumphant arrival. This year, Tighnari based his gift-giving on practicality... at least, partially.
"Welcome home," he breathed into Cyno's hair, arms nestled 'round his busied love. "And happy birthday."
First: a slang, meant to carry canisters of water or fruit, thought of and made by Collei. Tighnari helped with the dimensions, but little else.
Second: enhancements to his polearm. A firmer grip, a mindful yet assertive sharpening of its blade, grown the slightest bit dull from all his overtime.
Third...
"I know, in the throes of combat, you're much too preoccupied to fret over jewelry. So, this isn't anything special... but, for those fights wherein you need a little bit of a boost... remember who's waiting at home for you."
Taking his left hand into Tighnari's own, he slipped on a ring - hollow, a gold stripe 'cross Cyno's skin. In truth, Tighnari had spent a decent amount of time picking it out, but... it wasn't quite as glorious as an engagement ring, a wedding ring. Simply: a reminder.
"Come on. Your bath's waiting for you."
And the best gift of all: pampering.
Tumblr media
It was a rare time spent together in Cyno's apartment at the Akademiya instead of him going down to Ghandarva Ville. This time it was so they could spend tomorrow night with Alhaitham and Kaveh at Lambad's to enjoy some drinks and a few rounds of Genius Invokation at the request of the birthday boy. A few new recent holographic card additions would make things more fun when Cyno appreciated them again. But this night prior was for just him and Tighnari, since any time off for Cyno was a treat and a rarity.
He'd been made to sit on his bed while Tighnari laid out the few gifts for him. Eyes closed of course so he couldn't see. So when eyes opened and he saw the new pouch beside it, it distracted him long enough looking at that for Tighnari to slip the ring on his left hand and immediately pull Cyno's attention back to him both at the action done and the words spoken.
Having any jewelry on was a strange feeling for him, just like Tighnari mentioned he wasn't accustomed to wearing any ever. But its presence alone spoke volumes about what its significance was even if the forest ranger wasn't getting down on one knee to ask Cyno to play TCG with him the rest of their lives. But for sure someday that question would be coming up between them.
Tumblr media
For right now though, his precious Valuka Shuna was getting a kiss of gratitude as well as being pulled closer. The items were appreciated, but it was the sentiment that meant even more to him. Cyno wouldn't be pulling away for a few moments as his attention got drawn into the kiss for at least that long, and even when he pulled away their foreheads and noses were still resting together. Fingers brushed the fair skin of his lovers cheek and a second kiss was stolen for another moment before going back to simply staying very close.
"As long as you're coming with me for it." Was he talking about just the bath or something longer out than just that? The answer was yes. He wanted Tighnari there with him for all of it.

Timaeus Isn’t the Only One
Windbloom with Genshin men ft. Cyno, Albedo
Drabbles - GN Reader (No Pronouns) - Fluff (slightest angst in Albedo’s but ends with fluff) - Romantic - SFW
Part 2 for Cyno
It seems that Timaeus isn’t the only one who's gained a love interest this Windbloom festival…
Tumblr media
Cyno
Cyno had several agendas for his trip to Mondstadt. Of course his principal reason was Collei’s protection and accompaniment, though another not so secret motivation added to his decision. How could this reason be anything other than Genius Invokation TCG?
Not only did he have the opportunity to commission a custom card back from the famous Calx, but Cyno would also be able to spend his precious vacation hours playing against folks in Mondstadt’s heart of TCG; the Cat’s Tail.
As soon as Collei had gone off with her local friends to catch up and see the sights, Cyno set off to the Cat’s Tail, his deck in hand, hoping to find some worthy challengers in the renowned tavern. Upon entering, Cyno took no time to tarry, immediately challenging the first person he saw with a deck to a duel. The Mondstadtian man in question was naturally a little shocked to be issued such a sudden challenge, but accepted none the less.
It took all of three minutes for Cyno to beat him. After accumulating three more consecutive wins in the next ten minutes or so, Cyno’s table had gathered quite the crowd. The tavern was ablaze with excitement, many players afraid and in awe of the evident master before them.
It was around this time that you entered the Cat’s Tail, planning to catch up with Margret and maybe stretch your card game muscles with a few rounds of Genius Invokation. What you didn’t expect was a crowd of people surrounding one table, holding their breaths and intently watching a game as if it was a chess tournament.
“Hey Prince, Shuyun, what’s going on? Was there a special event today that I wasn’t aware of?”
Prince meowed in response, Shuyun translating,
“Not exactly, but it seems we have a new house champion. And an outlander, at that.”
“A house champion? Is he really that good?”
“He’s beaten some of our best players in mere minutes. I’d say he has earned such a title.”
You’re gaze swept over the crowd again, hoping to see the illustrious card player between the audience members. The crowd cheered, jumping around and indicating that another game had been won by the champion. As the audience parted slightly for the small celebration, you caught a glimpse of the winner, a man dressed in Sumerian clothing, with a stern face that presently held a small prideful smile.
You turned back to Prince when he nudged your arm with his soft head, watching as he pointed his paw and nudged his head toward the man.
“You know what? Maybe I will Prince,” you took a moment to pat his head, being mindful not to topple his tiny hat, before making your way to the crowded table.
“Would anyone else like a game?” The champion asked the crowd, face still flat, though his eyes shone with a subtle sense of fun.
“I’d love to,” you said, sitting down opposite.
“Excellent, let’s begin.”
The game was long and gruelling, with both sides losing two characters and using almost all their cards before the final round. The audience was impatiently watching, eyeing off each player's determined expression and holding their breaths as you played a final card, allowing you to destroy your opponent's last character with your own on only two health points.
The crowd cheered loudly surprised and excited to see someone beat the incredible stranger.
"You play with great precision and thought in your actions, I willingly accept my defeat."
"Thank you, but it was super close, I think that if my deck had been shuffled a little differently I wouldn't have won,"
"Do not underestimate your own skill. But we can test your theory in another game. I am Cyno, the adventurer."
You introduce yourself accordingly and shake hands to initiate another game. The two of you go back and forth in several more rounds of TCG, each losing and winning in equal ratios. You continue on for so long that the crowd eventually dissipates, you and Cyno the only ones left in the tavern.
Cyno used a final elemental skill, destroying your last character card and ending what was likely the hundredth round. You sighed in satisfaction, it had been a long time since you'd had this much fun playing cards with anyone before. Cyno seemed to share your sentiment, sitting still at the table and not bothering to pack away his deck.
"I would suggest playing another game, but I think the staff want us to leave so they can close," You laugh, slowly packing your dice into a little bag.
"Yes, it seems we are inconveniencing the staff. Although I will be back tomorrow. I hope you will come as well,"
"For sure, I've had so much fun playing against you Cyno. You're really amazing at this game, although I think I might be able to one-up you next time," You tease.
"Well, we will T-see-G." Cyno's usual stoicism did not shift with the uttering of the pun, though it did cause your own head to jerk in a chuckle.
"Pfft. I didn't take you as the kind to make jokes Cyno, but it seems to be a CARDinal part of your personality." You laugh, holding up a random card from your deck.
Cyno felt his subtle smile widen and his heart grow in kind. You laughed at his joke. You even returned it.
"Come have dinner with me."
Your head shot up at the sudden request, mind racing and mouth agape. Did... did this guy just ask you out?! Surely he was just making a request to spend time together platonically, right? You hardly knew each other after all, even though you had great chemistry and shared a lot of interests. Not to mention he was attractive, and his hair looked so silky. Okay now you were just complimenting him.
You know what? Whether Cyno was asking you on a date or just as a friend, you wouldn't mind.
"Sure, that sounds great," You smile.
Tighnari and Collei were beyond surprised when Cyno told them he went on a date the next day.
Albedo
You walked through the main square of Mondstadt, admiring the festive decor and lively atmosphere of the Windbloom season. Strolling past the fountain, you spotted Sucrose and Albedo conversing at the alchemy station. A smile lit up across your features, it has been a while since you’d spoken to the alchemists, especially with how busy they seemed to be recently. Your hopefully secret crush on Albedo also meant that you were always looking for a chance to talk, especially during the festival of love. Deciding to take the opportunity, you walked over to say hello.
“Sucrose, Albedo!” You called, turning the two toward you. “How are you?”
“Y/n, we’ve been well. I hope you can say the same?” Albedo smiled politely.
“Yes, I’ve been well enough. I feel like I’ve barely seen you guys though, have you been busy?”
“Yes, my position as Windbloom ambassador this year has certainly kept me very busy, not to mention this strange prophecy we’ve come across.” Sucrose explained, sounding a little out of breath, but satisfied with her work. “How has your Windbloom been? Is there anything I can do to help make it better?”
“My Windbloom has been just fine, thank you Sucrose. A little too regular, if anything. I hope that with all your work you’re still finding time to enjoy yourself. I would believe that as Windbloom ambassador, it’s most important that you are enjoying the festival. Otherwise, how can you help other people to enjoy it too?”
“An excellent postulate, I too believe that Sucrose’s own happiness will affect her ability to help others with theirs. After all, a gloomy person would not do much to sooth your own worries.” Albedo reasons.
“Th-thank you, both of you,” Blushing at both of your concern, Sucrose adjusts her glasses bashfully. “When you said your Windbloom has been ‘regular’, what do you think would make it more impactful? Perhaps there is something I can help you with after all?”
“It’s nothing you’d be able to change Sucrose, but thank you,” you sigh, glancing wistfully across the square at the smiling, bustling citizens. “I suppose a festival of love and friendship just makes the lonely feel a little more alone. But it’s nothing big. I’ve got my own work and things I need to do, as I know you both have, so I’ll leave you to it. It was nice to see you both!”
“Yes, and you as well,” Albedo responded, although both he and Sucrose had a crinkle of worry in their brow.
“Um, we’ll see you later Y/n, I promise!”
You bid the duo goodbye, smiling and slightly regretting saying anything about yourself. You didn’t mean to turn the conversation so somber, hopefully Sucrose and Albedo still kept their lively attitudes despite your sudden sob story.
Although you did truely feel the effect of the events surrounding you everywhere you went. Although the festive air was fun, the novelty ran out quickly for you when you didn’t have anyone to celebrate with. Your friends were busy with their romantic pursuits, and only chatted with you shortly to update you on their success. Of course you were happy for them, but it stung a little to know you didn’t have the same.
Seeing Albedo today hadn’t helped your hurt. Despite the friendly conversation, speaking to him so casually only served as a reminder of what you knew deep down would never be. Albedo was a serious and studious, he would never have time for something so trivial as romance.
You sighed as you entered your home, deciding not to keep throwing the hapless pity party and get some work done instead. You would just have to get over it, you huffed. It’s not like anything was changing anytime soon.
You sat down across the couch, slouching after completing your work, staring into space and trying not to let the sensation of loneliness creep back now that you weren’t up and about. A knock at the door brought you from your stupor, pushing the doubting thoughts back for a moment as you curiously approached the door. You certainly weren’t expecting any guests, but what you saw when you opened to door couldn’t have been expected.
Albedo stood outside your home with a gentle smile and a full bouquet of winding, snow-white flowers the likes of which you had never seen. Your mouth gaped open as you blinked, your chest light as you tried to hold back your imagination. Surely this couldn’t be what your heart desperately hoped it would be?
“Albedo, what are you doing here?”
“Why, I simply wanted to visit you. As well as take the opportunity to present you with my Windbloom. I hope you will accept it,”
Albedo carefully handed the vine-like flowers over to you, your arms cradling them as you admired the otherworldly blooms.
“Did- did you create these?” You asked, wonderment filling your voice and reflecting in your eyes.
“Yes, I believed it was only reasonable to present you with something unique. Something to reflect how I feel... for you.” Albedo's calm features never faltered, his eyes only dropping for a second in what you could only guess was a rare shyness.
“What- I mean why-,” you tried to breathe, not quite sure how to ask the question burning in your mind. You settled with a whisper, “Why are you giving these to me?”
“Is that not obvious? I apologise if I have not been as upfront as I would have preferred, but I did not want to cause you any grief in the case you didn’t reciprocate my feelings,” Albedo explained, voice softer than ever. “I find myself infatuated with you, Y/n. You occupy more of my thoughts than any other, and I feel myself drawn to you at all times. It was only earlier today when you commented on your lonesomeness that I realised it was worth my taking a chance to make both of us happier for it. So if you’ll allow me, would you accompany me to dinner tonight?”
You smiled wide, bashfully taking Albedo’s hand in your own as you stepped closer to him.
“I would love nothing more. Thank you, Albedo. You’ve no idea how much this means, how much I like you,”
“If it is anything like how I feel for you, I’d imagine you are quite spellbound at the moment,” the alchemist chuckled, taking your hand in his and caressing the skin.
It was only that morning that you found yourself tired of the Windbloom festival. Yet now, you wished it would never end.

Geeking Out
Genius Invokation TCG, Zhongli, and you.
Genius Invokation TCG is all the rage, everyone’s playing it no matter who they are
Which is why Zhongli isn’t surprised that you’ve been swept by the TCG wave too. You’ve already built a few strong decks, spent some Mora on good action cards, and played against other people in your free time
You rave about the game all day to Zhongli, who doesn’t mind. He likes it when you’re gushing about the things you’re into (he also finds it adorable, quite frankly, but that’s beside the point)
Zhongli passively learns the mechanics of the game thanks to you, understanding the kind of tactics you’re into and how to get the best of your opponent. He’s a good listener after all, so he remembers every last detail
One day you come home with the BIGGEST grin on your face, waving a card around excitedly
“Zhongliiiii, guess what card I bought today!”
“What is it, dear?” he asks, putting down his book to pay attention to you. He remembers everything you’ve told him about the card game, and thus today you must be boasting about a good action card you’ve purchased.
Your grin widening, you show him the card – it’s the Mask of Solitude Basalt.
Zhongli’s brow furrows. “An artifact card. But darling, if I recall correctly, none of your decks incorporate Geo units. Have you started building a new deck?”
“No, silly! It’s not what the card does, but who’s on it!”
You’re fangirling about the fact that Rex Lapis is the wearer of the mask in the card, so in a way, your lover is a TCG character too
It’s an action card, but it quickly becomes your favourite card for obvious reasons. You take even better care of it than your character cards, much to Zhongli’s amusement
You anticipate the days you get to go to the tavern to play a round or three, which means your disappointment is immeasurable on occasions you cannot…
“A-choo!” Blowing your nose, you whimper for the umpteenth time. “Today’s supposed to be match day…”
“There is always next time, my love,” Zhongli offers kindly as he refills your cup of tea. “Why not go next weekend?”
You pout. “But I wanted to show off my new deck to everyone! I put together a whole new set that’s bound to have everyone jealous!”
Zhongli kisses your forehead. “Can it not wait a week?”
“No!”
Therefore, because Zhongli loves you so much, he comes up with an idea
He’s seen you talk about your new deck and the tactics you have in mind for it, and thank the archons Zhongli has impeccable memory
He decides to go in your stead and play on your behalf
Naturally, you’re overjoyed but also apprehensive. Sure, he’s seen you play many times, but that’s not the same as actually playing it himself…
He assures you he will do his best by emulating all that you’ve done and shown him, and you get so emotional you almost sob and blow your nose on his coat and wish him all the best of luck
“Hm…”
The second Zhongli has stepped into the tavern, your fancy new deck in hand, he sizes everyone up. People recognise him, partly as the funeral consultant from Liyue and partly as your husband – mostly the latter, since you’ve become quite well-known for your card game prowess, and therefore Zhongli is famous too by association.
After he has found a challenger, he sits opposite them and takes out the deck. His opponent comments on how he’s surprised to see Zhongli today instead of you, and Zhongli explains that he’s playing on your behalf.
His opponent chuckles. “This is no different from being up against a first-time player then. I’ll take the easy victory, thank you.”
But Zhongli smiles as he rolls the elemental dice. “Come what may in this match of ours, but I have the utmost faith in my wife’s strategies.”

CYNO really, truly despises how you keep talking during films.
recently, fontaine had created new technology that depicted photographs actually doing things inside of a medium. naturally, when proven not to be a rumor, it took teyvat by storm. after all, it wasn't every day when innovational devices are invented, right?
it was to be expected when you approached the mahamatra almost instantly after news, eyes sparkling with glee. never mind the rather odd sight of an unfamiliar figure at the akademiya walking up to him out of the blue, he was meaning to watch one of these "moving pictures" (as it was dubbed before finding out the proper terminology) himself, he agreed to bring you to the akademiya, where they planned to study this particularly alien item (cyno didn't exactly disclose that they were going to study your reactions of watching this for the first time, but he digresses.)
only a few minutes prior to the beginning of the film, it clearly didn't take a graduate of the akademiya to tell you were going all out. yes, the event was very special indeed, yet not to the point where it warranted you enthusiastically handing pita pockets to everybody in the vicinity. the argument of basic lab safety was bound to be shot down swiftly, so cyno simply remained silent. he wasn’t a buzzkill or anything, and the subtle, yet rather messy munching sound the students made while eating (perhaps due to the fact that they were starving themselves in order to graduate) didn't reach to the point it was disruptive to the experiment, gratefully enough.
and yet, another problem arose.
cyno genuinely wanted to watch the film. it isn't very noticeable to the untrained eye; you could just tell that he was looking forward to this. maybe it was the slight glint in his eyes, or maybe his rather minuscule mercy when it came to students who were found to be academically dishonest.
either way, he was in a good mood. or at least was. it was strange, to see that the small bout of eagerness peaking through his stoic expression, only to miserably collapse like somebody trying to build a tower out of genius invokation tcg cards.
luckily (or not so luckily in his case), cyno knew exactly what was going on: the constant chattering not from the film, but another source. now, it would've been a much different case if it was the students at fault—except it wasn't.
the sounds of the researching students scribbling ink on their paper joined as soon as you opened your mouth, recording every time you would exclaim at every remotely interesting detail that shows up or attempt to interpret every single action that the characters were doing.
it was just so... so frustrating—aggravating, even—that your seemingly never-ending voice was more interesting than a literal cutting-edge invention. how your own input appeared way more appealing than the actual thing itself.
unbeknownst to him, the scholars completely switched the focus of their research entirely on his rather interesting facial expression.

LOVE THROUGH A CARD GAME
FEAT; cytham/haino WC; 1.3k SUMMARY; a match of Genius Invokation TCG causes Haitham to realise his affections.
Tumblr media
Haitham watches every movement of Cyno's facial expressions — from his eyes slightly squinted in concentration and pursed lips. His demeanour shifts just the slightest a mere moment after Haitham makes his move, and Cyno knows that the victory is his to claim.
His lip curls up just the slightest, and a rare look of pride flashes across his eyes. There's no doubt that he enjoys playing Genius Invokation TCG and that he's also extremely well-versed in it. It's one thing to be passionate, and another to be skilled.
Haitham, on the other hand, does not care much for this card game of strategic planning. There are far more valuable things he could be doing with the time he has on his hands, but he has chosen to spend it with Cyno, on a game he knows is very personal to the General Mahamatra.
Frankly, it doesn't hurt his ego whenever Cyno beats him. He's completely unstirred by his loss, no matter how terrible. This is Cyno's field of expertise and Haitham has no interest in challenging the best.
The only reason he even agrees to match after match is because it's Cyno he's playing with.
The man is full of surprises. Haitham never would have come close to guessing that he was into Genius Invokation TCG if Cyno had not said so himself. In fact, it was then that his opinion of Cyno had started to shift a little, and had continuously changed as they forged a greater connection with one another.
Haitham listened when Cyno talked about his childhood, making mental notes when his tone got a little quieter and his eyes became clouded over. He also noticed when Cyno adopted a more enthusiastic attitude when he rambled on about the mechanics of the card game he so loved for the first time. Haitham always noticed, no matter how small or subtle the change was.
And over time, he found that it was the simplest of actions that he liked the most about the intimidating and greatly revered General Mahamatra. Upholding and administering justice upon wrongdoers was undoubtedly admirable in itself, but Haitham always found a smile tugging at his lips whenever Cyno doted on Collei or gave away portions of his dinner to stray cats on the streets.
In the midst of watching Cyno, it slips Haitham's notice that Cyno is observing him just as closely too.
“Why did you let me win?”
The question makes Haitham’s thoughts halt, as if Cyno had somehow infiltrated his mind. “What?”
Cyno leans back in his seat with his arms folded and hints of a smirk on his face. Haitham has been caught red-handed.
“You could’ve played the card that allows you to switch characters as a fast action, then make use of the elemental reaction to defeat me,” Cyno explains. “So why didn't you?”
Haitham just stares at him, his mind actually blank now.
“If you intend to continue playing with me in the future, I'd appreciate it if you put more thought into your moves, Haitham. Even a beginner could think of a move like that,” Cyno adds, almost sounding disappointed.
Haitham feels a flare of irritation, but not towards Cyno. It’s directed at himself, because Cyno was right: he wasn’t trying to win at all, he was more focused on the man in front of him.
“Apologies, I was distracted,” Haitham replies. “Shall we go for another round now?”
This takes Cyno by surprise. He sits back upright, elbows on his knees. “Of course.”
Haitham isn't bothered by his second defeat of the night.
Cyno tries his best to hide his smile, but Haitham catches a glimpse of it anyway. He seems more proud of his victory now than the previous time.
“I wasn’t distracted this round,” Haitham says as he gathers his cards together.
“Yes, I could see that,” Cyno replies. Although he should be proud of himself for outbesting the Acting Grand Sage, something about his tone suggests that it has further implications.
Haitham’’s curiosity is piqued. “Were you trying out a new deck that gained a victory for the first time?”
“No, why do you ask?”
“Just wondering why you sounded more pleased about your wins than usual.”
Cyno raises his gaze from his cards to meet Haitham.
“It wasn’t all about winning.”
“What is it, then?”
Cyno hesitates. His fingers fidget with the deck, and he looks anywhere but directly at Haitham.
“Well, I’m just glad you consider me a formidable opponent to continue duelling with,” he replies simply, looking a bit embarrassed. Quite a rare expression for him to wear.
When Haitham grasps ahold of the situation a few moments later, he finds himself just as embarrassed.
“If you intend to continue playing with me in the future, I'd appreciate it if you put more thought into your moves, Haitham. Even a beginner could think of a move like that.”
It clicked into place.
Haitham requesting for another round and actually attempting to beat Cyno was like saying, I want to keep playing this card game with you!
He must’ve seemed pathetic.
But judging from the other’s reaction, it seems he does not think of their situation the way Haitham is.
Haitham musters up the courage to admit the truth. There’s no good in hiding what must have been written across his face.
“You must know that you’re the only one I would voluntarily duel against.”
By the time he’d gone through every single word that toppled out of his mouth, it was too late to take anything back. He had said what was on his mind.
…Even if the truth did sound a lot more intimate than Haitham had initially expected.
While Alhaitham was attempting to keep his cool, Cyno was clearly having trouble processing this.
He clears his throat awkwardly and sits up straighter than before, his face a dark shade of red. “I could build you a deck that’s on the same calibre as mine,” Cyno responds.
Haitham shakes his head. “I don’t mind losing to you, really.”
A beat.
Cyno looks baffled. And he's also blushing even more.
“You want to duel me knowing that you'll lose?” Cyno asks sceptically.
“I just want to sit down with you for an hour or two, is that so—”
Cyno abruptly stands. His face is turned away, so Haitham has no way of knowing what Cyno feels upon hearing this.
It clicks into place when Cyno speaks, “I like you too.”
A light feeling overloads Haitham's senses. He doesn't know what to think or say, he just stares at Cyno.
This is about when a realisation hits him.
If this was any other person, he would be bored out of his mind after ten minutes. Haitham wouldn't even consider or accept losing a card game that he thought was beneath him before he knew of Cyno’s passion.
Cyno had shifted Haitham’s life. He had changed Haitham’s worldview, even if he wasn't aware of it.
Somewhere along loathing him and being with him at the very moment, Haitham had undeniably developed feelings of affection for Cyno.
But what was the very next step, then? He had admitted his feelings without even noticing, which might’ve been for the better anyway.
Haitham thought of the rare encounters he had with several romance novels in his childhood. The protagonist would go on to ask their love interest on a date, if he recalled correctly. Since he had almost made a fool out of himself, Haitham might as well just go all out.
“Let’s meet tomorrow afternoon in my office.”
Cyno cocks a brow at him. “Is there something we have to discuss? Oh, that reminds me of the recent increasing cases of copyright infringement and—”
“No,” Haitham cuts in, “It’s a date.”
Cyno stops. Turns to stare at Haitham in the eye. “Alright,” he responds, totally cool and collected. “A date in your office.”
