Thursday, October 27: Serenity, “Sprouts of Terror”

Serenity was certainly not one of the first progressive power metal bands, but albums like Codex Atlanticus and songs like “Sprouts of Terror” were among the strongest examples of the form.  The riffs were perfectly placed, Georg Neuhauser’s vocals were soaring and precise, and everything fit the template perfectly.  It epitomized prog/power metal almost to a fault, but when it came to this sound there was generally little to no room to add any wrinkles, so aside from being one example out of many this was among the best at what it did.

Warkings, you want power metal? They got it in spades! Warkings is a pretty damn good band, the vocals of Georg Neuhauser, aka The Tribune, is beautifully clean. The guitar, the bass, and the drums are on point... it's all a recepy to create a fine, very fine recepy for some good old power metal. The other members are Chris Rodens, aka The Viking. Steffen Theurer aka The Spartan, and finally, Markus Pohl aka The Crusader. Very tasty combo for your ears. My song recommendation: Gladiator. Fight. Monsters. Maximus.

Serenity [The Last Knight] 2020 (Spotify) 本作もお手本とでもいうべき，正統派なシンフォニックパワーメタル．安定した作品を輩出しているものの，少し面白みにかけるのかも．とは言え，アルバムのクオリティは高いので，Kamelot, Beast in Blackとか好きな人は楽しめる．
