FLUXUS meets FOLK.
These semi-folk eye goggles pay tribute to George Maciunas (Jurgis Mačiūnas), a Lithuanian American artist who was a founding member and central coordinator of Fluxus. Although Maciunas initially conceived the name "Fluxus" for a publication covering Lithuanian culture during a meeting of Lithuanian émigrés, Fluxus soon evolved into an international community of artists, architects, composers, and designers. Maciunas is best known for organizing and participating in early happenings and creating a series of influential artists' multiples. While Maciunas was alive, Fluxus works were not signed, numbered, or credited to any specific artist, causing confusion surrounding many key pieces. Maciunas aimed to uphold his stated goal of demonstrating the non-professional status, dispensability, and inclusiveness of artists and the idea that anything can be art and anyone can create it.
