AHHHHH sssreeeedy,

this chapter made me so emotional!!! i can‘t deny I love some zukka cuddles and sweetness but I really enjoyed the more confrontational scenes and the angst. It’s nice that they’re finally being honest and actually talking

They needed to have a confrontation where zuko was able to put his foot down and find his voice. He’s been such a floater recently just vibing and going through things without really engaging in anything so it’s kind of nice to see sokka pull an emotional reaction out of him. Zuko will talk a LOT more next chapter I think the damn thing is 75% zuko haha so I guess get ready for that haha. thanks for the ask <333

For the fanfic ask thing: 12, 26 for To Be Named, To Be Known (To Be Loved)!

#12: Was there a scene you wished you could have included? Why didn't it fit in?

I really would have liked to fit a scene with Katara into things, to show the development of her and Zuko's friendship, but I struggled with it for a few reasons.

The first was internal logic--if Katara is anywhere in the run-up to her brother's wedding, it's absolutely wrangling Sokka and keeping him from becoming an utter disaster from trying to plan for every possible contingency. And since Sokka wasn't around Zuko, that meant Katara wasn't either.

The second was fic structure--it's a 5+1, and I really wanted the 1 to be a quick walk through the prior five in terms of Zuko hearing the same titles in the same order, generally speaking from the same people, with Sokka then coming in with the new one.

And I knew I wanted a scene of Zuko and his servants alone to show that behind-the-scenes-ness of his life, I knew I wanted Iroh and Zuko to have quiet time away from politics together, and I knew I wanted to end the fifth with Azula sending Zuko off to la-la land with that could-be-ominous-but-isn't 'Sweet dreams, Zuzu.'

So that left two scenes to showcase politics + something else, and pack as many of Zuko's friends into it as I could, and I couldn't think of a reason Katara would join the political discussion that wouldn't cause Zuko a ton of panic (or further upset the room), and whenever I tried to work her into the outfit scene with Aang and Mai it felt like it was undercutting those showcases of support.

Plus, purely logistically, the dialogue gets funky when that many people in the room are never addressing Zuko by name haha

#26: Wild Card! I'll tell you a fun fact about this fic!

Fun (?) fact! I wrote this sitting on my roof during the first really nice day of late spring when I had Covid, which turned into a weird mix of living my best life outside in the sun and living absolutely not my best life wanting to be comforted and warm and wrapped in a hug. I feel like both of those vibes might have made their way in haha

(Funner fact! I'm officiating a wedding in a few months and might have cribbed some of Suki's jokes for the ceremony)
