Marching off to face my destiny… Hello from the Castle of Gjirokastra! This castle sits on a rocky hill and overlooks the town of Gjirokastra. It was built in the 12-13th centuries. Legend says that Princess Argyro jumped from a cliff in the castle with her child to escape from the Ottomans to resist being captured. The castle was later used as a prison in the 1900s during the Communism era. Gjirokastra is home of the famous National Folk Festival which celebrates traditional Albanian folk culture. It takes place in the fall every four years. It’s so crazy and interesting to me to visit monuments that often have a dark past which nowadays are converted to museums or spaces that hold festivals and celebrations. It’s very weird to me that time is the only difference where so many events have taken place. Marla invited me to go to lake orid today and i so wanna join but im like on a bit of a time crunch need to get to italy before end of october cuz im going tto egypt on the 3rd november from rome witj liam. Sigh. Letting go of friends is kinda the worsy part im too senstive for bCkpacking
