Google’s Gemini: The AI Assistant Designed for Everyone, Everywhere
At this year’s Google I/O in Mountain View, one message stood out with unmistakable clarity: artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool you use; it is becoming the layer that connects everything you do. Google’s Gemini project represents this shift, emerging not as a single product, but as an ecosystem-wide AI assistant that anticipates user needs, understands context, and works seamlessly across apps, devices, and tasks.

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.
If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.
Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.
Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.
I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

It is with the deepest frustrations that I must report Microsoft has pushed out Copilot onto Microsoft Word no matter what your previous settings were. If you have Office because you paid for it/are on a family plan/have a work/school account, you can disable it by going to Options -> click on Copilot -> uncheck 'Enable Copilot'.
(Note, you may not see this option if you haven't updated lately, but Copilot will still pop up. Updating should give you this option. I will kill Microsoft with my bare hands.)
In addition, Google has forced a roll-out of it's Gemini AI on all American accounts of users over 18 (these settings are turned off by default for EU, Japan, Switzerland, and UK, but it doesn't hurt to check).
To remove this garbage, you must go to Manage Workspace smart feature settings for all your Gmail/Drive/Chat and turn them off. Go to Settings -> See all settings -> find under "Genera" the "Google Workspace smart features" -> turn smart feature setting off for both Google Workspace and all other Google products and hit save. (If you turned off the smart settings in your Gmail, it never hurts to open Drive and double-check that they're set to off there too.)
Quick Edit: I found the easiest way to get to the Smart Feature settings following the instructions above was to do it through Drive. Try that route first.
Now is the time to consider switching to Libre Office if you haven't already.

Soon, Gmail may son let Android users use AI to write and send email replies
Google is fully embracing AI to update its services. From Search to Workspace, the tech giant is introducing new features that allow users to utilize AI to boost productivity and simplify services. As part of this upgrade, Google is currently experimenting with a new feature for the Gmail app aimed at improving email communication for Android users using AI. This feature, known as “reply suggestions from Gemini,” utilizes Google’s AI model, Gemini, to generate response suggestions for incoming emails automatically.
According to Android code expert AssembleDebug, this feature is presently concealed within developer flags, yet it provides a sneak peek into the future of email exchanges. Once activated, Gemini scrutinizes the content of incoming emails and proposes three reply options that are contextually relevant to users. These AI-generated responses vary from brief phrases to full sentences, potentially saving users considerable time and energy when composing email replies.
Reportedly, the effectiveness of these features depends on their user-friendly nature. Users can conveniently select from a variety of suggested replies with just a single tap, which then automatically populate the compose field. Moreover, users have the flexibility to personalize the message before sending it. This tool aims to assist users in crafting swift, concise responses, ultimately cutting down on the time typically spent composing lengthy emails.
Remarkably, Google has previously incorporated Gemini into Gmail. Google One AI Premium subscribers currently benefit from a beta feature named “ Help me write,” utilizing Gemini to aid in composing new emails prompted by users. However, this upcoming “reply suggestions from Gemini” feature will distinguish itself from the “Help me write” feature. It will provide users with pre-written responses for expedited communication.
Additionally, as part of its efforts to enhance AI responses, Google has integrated a feedback mechanism within the feature. Users who come across irrelevant or inaccurate suggestions can tap on the “bad suggestions?” prompt to notify Google, contributing to the improvement of the AI’s accuracy over time.
Although presently available via developer flags, the official launch date for “reply suggestions from Gemini” has not been disclosed. This suggests that Google is possibly still refining the feature and collecting user feedback before proceeding with a wider release.
A Vision of Enhanced Gmail Experience
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the implementation of AI-generated replies reflects Google’s aim to enrich the Gmail experience for Android users. This feature is in line with the previously unveiled “Help Me Write” capability, enabling users to direct Gmail on the type of email they intend to compass, with the app generating the draft accordingly. Moreover, Google is investigating the incorporation of voice commands for email composition, further simplifying the process.

For those freaking out about Google keeping your intellectual property, here's a link to the specific section of their ToS that explains things.
To sum up the important bits: Only you own your content. You license (allow) Google to use your content for its stated purposes. Google is allowed to share your content with contractors to use their services, also for its stated purposes. Some of these purposes are: allowing Google's service to work, using contracted services to scan your content for ToS violations, scanning to recommend personalized ads to you (link to disable here), and to develop new tech and services consistent with their terms. If you want more details, just click the first link I provided.
In case you want to check out other settings to fiddle with, here's a link to your Google account page (if you're signed in). If you're seriously worried about your rights and privacy it's probably worth looking through.
🚨⚠️ATTENTION FELLOW WRITERS⚠️🚨
If you use Google Docs for your writing, I highly encourage you to download your work, delete it from Google Docs, and transfer it to a different program/site, unless you want AI to start leeching off your hard work!!!
I personally have switched to Libre Office, but there are many different options. I recommend checking out r/degoogle for options.
Please reblog to spread the word!!
