Title: Cuteness Member - Flippy [Fliqpy]
So, you want this green former veteran army bear 🪖🐻 joins the "Cuteness Defender Academy"? Well, you got it! 😁Yup, Flippy's back from his retirement veteran for an action, and more likely vicious "Beast Mode" 😈 with his alter ego (I meant "Fliqpy"). And what better way than his first "Cuteness Mecha Armor", the armored "Efreet Custom"! 🤖⚔️
Efreet Flippy CustomBased on: MS-08TX [EXAM] Efreet Custom - [CLICK ME!]
Armament(s):
Heat Sword • The symbolic weapon of the Efreet Custom, two heat swords can be stored on the side armor or on the backpack. These two swords demonstrating the armor's high fighting ability. By heating the sword's blade to red hot, it can easily cut through the armor, but it can also be used for cutting like a normal machete when not heated.
Twin Grenade Launcher • Equipped on both forearms. The main purpose of this weapon is to intimidate and restrict the enemy's movements, but it is also powerful enough to destroy parts of the enemy's machine as well as disable their handheld weapons.
6-tube Missile Pod • Mounted on both legs, the pods are discarded after the missiles are fired to reduce the armor's weight.
Special Equipment / Feature(s):
EXAM System • (A.K.A EXAM Newtype Simulation Control System) is a specialized combat support system.It was intended to mechanize Newtypeabilities into the mobile suit itself, allowing their use by normal Cuteness Members as a combat aide. The system made it extremely unstable and hard to control, to the point that the system - and the mobile suit - would sometimes go berserk. While under the influence of the EXAM System, the armor suit's would glow red, including the eyes.
Fliqpy's EXAM System • This is a custom system version from the original EXAM System. But unlike the original, Fliqpy's version is much far dangerous. To do his EXAM system version,Flippy showing off his shocking emotions by see/hear killing allies or innocent lives died by the opponent(s) during battles before he unleashes his altered ego among with the EXAM System activated. Fliqpy's EXAM System off the charts by increasing overly of Speed and Melee, bringing down opponents with a single attack. And though Fliqpy's pupils never changes when in EXAM System mode, only red veins appeared on his eye balls.

Gundam Seed Freedom Movie
Okay, I did it, I went to watch the movie:
There were wayyy more people than I thought going to see it. Basically the entire back section was nearly fully, I think there were about 5ish seats left to pick. Also, not too many girls, there were a total of about 10 (I was the first one there so I noticed when they came in) including myself--the only other girl who came alone & not accompanying other(s) just so happened to sit next to me. She cried like 4+ times during the entire movie XD
Movie Thoughts (SPOILERS under the cut):
My initial thoughts coming out: Story was kinda meh-ish, but mecha-stuff was really cool. I think if this movie came out within the first 5 years after the end of Destiny OR if I rewatched SEED/GSD more recently, I would've enjoyed all the Easter eggs and such a great deal more.
After sitting down & re-checking stuff online (just to make sure I understood certain parts correctly), I think if I get to rewatch it again, I would've definitely enjoyed it more.
Off the top of my head likes/dislikes
Likes: the new theme songs, METEOR, Shin redemption, Athrun being cool again, flashback featuring old chars, Athrun piloting scenes, Cagalli piloting scenes, Athrun beating Kira, AsuCaga, ShinLuna, Yzak, Dearka, Miri, Hilda, Murrue, Mu, Millenium crew, the cool fights, Torii & Blue
Dislikes: Kira going through his old dilemma from all of SEED/end of GSD, the NTR stuff, the slightly over the top fanservice-y stuff, pacing at the beginning, the Black Knights
More in-depth thoughts on certain things:
Shin & ShinLuna: Shin was easily one of the characters I disliked the most in GSD, and I'm really glad that he's soooooo much more likeable in the movie. Why weren't you more like this in Destiny?!! He's also such a Kira fanboy (I just wished that Kira wasn't so... in need of a slapping 80% of the time) and it's really funny. Especially when he wanted to help Kira when him & Athrun were fighting and he got decked in the process!! He's like so dumb-cute and I really love that for him. I'm glad he had his moment to shine in the movie! I'm a little tickled seeing the ShinLuna interactions given that GSD was kinda how their VAs (Suzumura Kenichi & Sakamoto Maaya) got together and married. I wish/hope there's an interview where they have the couple talk about their roles and such, it would be so interesting. Better yet is if there's a video interview, I would totally eat that up.
Athrun & AsuCaga: Athrun in GSD was also an ache in my heart. I'm glad they made him cool again in this movie (lol except for that one scene where Shura saw THAT image in his mind, like it's so funny/crazy/wtheckkk). Man, how I wish that they threw more AsuCaga hints earlier in the movie!!! I was such a hardcore AsuCaga shipper too!! I remember feeling so burned and feeling so hopeless at the end of GSD when they parted ways. But seeing them together just soothes my soul. ALSO THE NECKLACES YO!!!! They're as good as together in my heart even though they didn't have a face-to-face interaction in the movie. Like c'mon, Cagalli is training Toyah to be her successor, and left him in charge while she flew out to space. Orb is in good hands in the future and Cagalli can totally pull a page out of Kira/Lacus' book and just elope with Athrun, maybe not frolicking on the beach at sunset with suits off haha. Upon google searching, apparently there's like a side-novel thingy that features more of them!! Please make an OVA out of this too TuT
Music: The music was great!! I listened to the new theme songs beforehand, so it felt great hearing them in the movie. I was hoping Meteor or Vestige would play during the movie, and they totally delivered when Meteor was playing! I was so so happy. Also thanks to the music, I'm back on Spotify (I left it for a good 1-1.5 months because of FF7 Rebirth OST was NOT available on Spotify).
Soap Opera Story: Someone described the movie being too soap-opera-y and I can't agree more. I think the whole NTR stuff (Orphee & Agnes, the pseudo-love triangles or messy relationship stuff) or the Freedom vs Destiny theme with a heavy dose of LOVE ME NOT HIM/HER on top (is this Macross?? why isn't Lacus singing?? XD) was just a bit too much. But then I have to remind myself that this is me 20 years later, but for them, it's only been 2 years... they're not even 20 years old yet canonically... they're still teenagers yo.
Macross jokes aside though, I kinda wish Lacus got to sing at some point. That would've been quite nice, though I did like that they added instrumentals for her songs in the movie.
Also, I went in this movie not knowing if Miri would appear, but she did and all is well.

Given what we know about GUND technology, I wonder if we will see Quiet Zero being something similar to the Angel Ring.
If Aerial is Eri, a human soul entombed in a Gundam (like the EXAM/HADES machines from the one year war side story Blue Destiny) perhaps Prospera intends to make more gundams/augmented people that she can connect to the way Suletta can to Aerial to make a massive psuedo-newtype weapon. Or maybe Suletta who can connect to Aerial without any kind of backlash, will activate it.
The Angel Ring/Halo in Victory Gundam was a massive superstructure that used Newtypes as fuel to magnify Maria Pure Armonia's newtype power to suppress and direct emotions - which was the first thing i thought of when Prospera spoke about the purpose of her project - which, like, in itself has to be insanely dubious to Miorine. Everyone she knows is a war profiteer. Corporations dont just work to undermine their profits.
Its baseless conjecture, of course, all we have is the name "Quiet Zero," but this weeks episode of G-Witch has left things in a dire state
It will be interesting to see the rest of how Shaddiq's plan pans out if Sophie dies fighting Suletta. Or if Nika comes out about her involvement in the attack on Plant Quetta (though, honestly, to who? Everyone she knows was involved in some way, and knows exactly what happened. I dont know if Peil would move against Grassley, or if Lauda could truly stand up to the other great houses). Honestly, i think the best person she could talk is Miorine, who may be able to marshal her fathers resources while he is comatose.

Alright, since I did a post on all the Gundam Units running around in the One Year War, and since I also just finished my big long post on Gundam: Code Fairy, I should probably do one on the Pale Rider series, shouldn’t I?
Tumblr media
Being that they’re also very popular, and thus show up in a lot of places. I should note that I’m working off second-hand information for most of these, since I haven’t played the Missing Link Games.
I’m also going to talk about the original pale rider first, then I’ll deal with the others in (in-universe) chronological order in a second post:
Tumblr media
The Original RX-80 PR Pale Rider (later retconned into being the 4th unit in the Pale Rider plan). First appeared in the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link videogame. It’s first known deployment was against the Slave Wraith Team, an Earth Federation MS team made up of condemned criminals, often used as an internal disciplinary unit (read: taking out traitors and political enemies of the group’s controller, Grave) after they were judged too much of a liability (betrayed). It was later heavily damaged in battle against Zeon’s Marchosias Corps (basically a bunch of pilots that Zeon doesn’t fully trust due to possible ties with the Earth Federation, but who are too good for Zeon not to use) and captured (along with its pilot) at a Baoa Qu, at the end of the war. What happens to it next depends, since the Videogame and Manga diverge here. In the videogame it is eventually refitted into the AMX-18 Todesritter by Neo Zeon (in UC 0090, around the time of Char’s Rebellion), which I’ll get to later. Whilst in the manga it’s customised into the Pale Rider (VG) in UC 0080, then used by Vincent Gleissner, former member of Marchosias, and fought against the Pale Rider Dullhan, which I’ll also get to later. The Pale Rider (VG) is stated to be repaired using Gelgoog parts, but really the only notable difference is it’s weaponry. Notably, the name Pale Rider is implied to be something of a sick joke - in normal mobile suits the Pilot controls their actions as if they were riding a horse, with the Pale Rider, it’s the other way around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there it is, the unit that started it all. While I do understand it’s popularity I confess I’m unable to really appreciate the design. Why is this? Well…. The original Pale Rider design could be described as taking a bunch of existing cool elements from the Gundam Sidestories and mashing them all together. While not a bad method of designing a suit (especially one that you want to feel threatening, or a culmination of that which came before it), it does mean that the design is going to have a certain stitched-together quality to it.
First off, the mobile suit itself takes several design cues from the GM Sniper II (some of the chest and most of the legs and skirt armour) stated to be one of the best suits in the war, and it equipped with a HADES system, a derivative of the (strictly-limited) EXAM system used by the Blue Destiny Units, from which it also appears to derive its head design and general colourscheme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’ll talk about it another time, but the EXAM system is essentially a super mode, where the suits limiters are released, but it places incredible stress on the pilot, since they’re essentially being used as a biological cpu. It is limited to three minutes, otherwise the suit is put under too much stress).
Armament wise, it has multiple weapon loadouts, all of which use weaponry cribbed from other machines. The ground type armaments uses the same 180mm Cannon as the Gundam Ground Type, and is also equipped with a Spike Shield used by the GM Striker. Whilst the Space use version uses the exact same armaments as the Gundam G05 - Giant Gatling Gun, Hyper Beam Rifle, Shield and this is also where the Pale Rider gets it’s beam guns which are built-into it’s arms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When customised for use by Vincent Gleissner, it’s equipped with the Beam Machine Gun from the Gelgoog Jäger (essentially the best beam weapon available at that time) in addition to its Beam spot guns in the arms, to replace it’s destroyed beam guns. It gets twin beam naginata’s from the standard Gelgoog, and has twin missile pods added to the legs (I assume they’re standard Zeon equipment, but the only other suit we see them on is the EXAM Efreet).
This isn’t meant to call out the Pale Rider as a “Bad Design” or anything. I think it does a good job of blending its influences together. It’s just that I generally find myself preferring it’s component units over it (particularly the G04 and G05).
I’ll talk about the other Rider units in a follow-up post.

PART III: NEW YORK, 2021
(Previously: Part I, Part II)
Ten years later, I finally felt ready to build again. Although my living situation didn't provide very good workspace (and still doesn't), I could make do with a folding table. Perhaps more importantly, working from home during the pandemic (I was fortunate) permitted me more control over how to use my time, and more time to use. In addition to learning a new style of swordplay and trying to study Italian, I decided to return to my old Gunpla hobby at last.
I found much had changed in the preceding decade. Although Bandai's favor toward the 1/100 scale seemed to be in decline, many new kits of that size had been produced, including a new line specifically devoted to obscure Universal Century mobile suits. Meanwhile, the proliferation of 3D printing had introduced a whole new dimension of customization to Gunpla. The combination of these two developments enabled me to realize my old dream of completing the Wolfgar Team.
Tumblr media
The MS-08TX Efreet was a prototype close-combat mobile suit produced in very small numbers late in the One Year War—much like its more prominent cousin, the MS-18E Kämpfer. The Efreet became widely known after its variations appeared in a number of games, comics, and other peripheral Gundam materials, but it was originally designed for Cross Dimension 0079, where its pilot is Captain Henry Boone, leader of the Wolfgar Team.
Aside from a very old set of resin conversion parts, long out of production and beyond my skills, there had never been a way to build a 1/100 Efreet. During my hiatus, that changed with the release of the RE/100 Efreet EXAM Custom. This popular variation of the Efreet from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny differs significantly from the original design, but I knew it represented my best chance to build Henry Boone's Efreet in the scale to match my Wolfgar Zakus.
The most prominent difference between the original Efreet and the EXAM version is the shoulder armor. Fortuitously, in my researches I found an excellent conversion of the Efreet Custom to the original design built by a skilled 3D artist who'd printed their own replacement shoulder armor components, as well as the original type's shotguns. They graciously agreed to print these parts for me as well—and just like that, the Efreet, so long impossible, became a reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My rendition of Boone's Efreet is far from perfect. The shape and proportions of the custom shoulder armor aren't exactly correct, and it retains the EXAM custom's blockier, spikeless forearms with integrated grenade launchers, instead of the rounded, spiked forearm plates of the original design.
Tumblr media
Following the suit's in-game appearance rather than the concept art and other illustrations, I also opted to paint the leg and shoulder highlights red rather than white—a decision I still question.
Despite these shortcomings, I was deeply gratified to be able to build this Efreet at all.
Tumblr media
My Wolfgar Zakus are the most beloved of all the Gundam models I've ever built, and the only ones I retained from my earlier periods of Gunpla work in Taibei and Seattle. Adding the squad's leader and completing the work begun so many years before meant a great deal.

Title: RGM-79SH GM Sniper Scraps Shielder
You'll meet my version of Scraps 🐢👓 joins the "Cuteness Defender Academy", very soon. But for now, let's meet his second "Cuteness Mecha Armor" - the armored "GM Sniper Shielder", a custom based on the Gunpla's RGM-79K9 GM Sniper K9; replacing hound-related stuff to a turtle theme. 🔫🐢🤖😁
GM Sniper Scraps Shielder Based on: RGM-79K9 GM Sniper K9 [CLICK ME!]
Armament(s):
Beam Sniper Rifle • A custom large beam sniper rifle with a caliber size of 200mm, a monopod mounted under the barrel can be deployed for enhanced stability during firing. Both of its foregrip and main grip are movable to improve the large weapon's handling characteristic. After folding the stock, the rifle can be mounted onto the Turtle Shielder and be used by the support unit.
Sniper Rifle • A slightly modified version of GM Sniper II's sniper rifle, it now functions as a beam weapon instead of a solid-projectile weapon. It serves as the GM Sniper Shielder's main weapon when the Turtle Shielder is deployed with the beam sniper rifle.
Beam Gun • A pair of 20mm caliber pistol-type beam guns are stored in the hip-mounted holsters, they have low firepower, but can be rapid-fired. A battery/magazine is loaded in the grip, allowing for reloading during battle.
Beam Saber • A close combat weapon that emits a blade-shaped beam, a pair are stored on the rear skirt armor. The beam sabers are rarely used rely on sniping as its basic tactic, but they are effective as a fail-safe.
Heat Knife • Stored on the right shoulder, the knife's blade can be super-heated to enhance its cutting capability. Besides being a weapon, it also functions as a tool and can be used for various activities like climbing walls and setting up of traps.
Bullpup Machine Gun • A optional machine gun that fires 90mm rounds, this is the same firearm as used by the GM Sniper II.
Shield • The same anti-beam coated shield as used by the GM Sniper II, it is used for battle tactics where the GM Sniper Shielder requires a cover to hide behind. However, there are situations where the armor is deployed without this shield.
Special Equipment(s) / Feature(s):
DP-TRTL Turtle Shielder Pack • The backpack of the GM Sniper Shielder, it can detach and transform into a four-legged support unit that can mount the beam sniper rifle as its head. It is also known as "Hound", and can move around by hovering. Should the armor GM Sniper Shielder be destroyed, the Turtle Shielder can continue fighting independently.
APC • The Turtle Shielder Pack can detach from its rear a hovering APC that carries eight mech drones, known as the shellshock troopers, for covert operations, such as planting bombs on the enemy.
EXAM System • GM Sniper Shielder's trump card. In the original story (of Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny), it is used to fight against Newtypes by giving normal pilot reaction times comparable to a Newtype's, but in "Cuteness Defender", it simply improves the "Cuteness Mecha Armor's" performance. When the system is in use, the head camera will turn red.
