“They’re all leaving.” Vanquish's voice is quiet, relief sagging her words. Orpheus had long gone.

Vanquish looks up, her other arm numb from leaning forward so long. “Think you’ll find this is my place.”

Voss skims a claw along her ear. Down her augment (like mine), to the star encrusted burns that had shredded her jawline. Presses a thumb to her chin, to the light of her Dollstring.

“I have a place outside the city.” Thumbs her lip. She can’t speak. “Quiet and far away from anything.” Presses his thumb a little harder. “Anyone.”

His face in shadow. She can’t see much but the amber of his eyes, the flash of his teeth. The end of her tail flicks, damp. It had curled heavy, lazy on the surface of her rainstained balcony.
