Discover the Peaceful Practice of Yoga Nidra

One cool evening in a high-ceilinged eating hall in Novato, The golden state, an unlikely yoga exercise course is obtaining under means. Fourteen guys wearing blue denims, job boots, or running footwears roll out yoga exercise floor coverings and also obtain settled on resting bags, blankets, as well as pillows-- in prep work for Yoga Nidra.
The instructor, Kelly Boys, grins as she surveys her students, residents at Henry Ohlhoff North, a material abuse recovery. She asks if anyone intends to review their experiences in the previous week's session. A trim 52-year-old named Charles volunteers that he deals with feelings of loneliness.
Around the area, faces loosen up, jaws soften, as well as soon snores begin to roll as the guys go down further right into relaxation.
' How does your body really feel when it strikes you?' Boys asks. 'Stressful,' Charles says. 'And where do you really feel the tension?' she asks. 'In my shoulders,' he says.
' Just ask it, 'Exactly what do you need? What do you want?" Boys states. 'We're simply bringing inquisitiveness to it. When you truly satisfy it, it does slope.' Charles responds, completely satisfied for now.
As the men settle right into kicked back placements, Boys starts to speak them via a detailed trip of their own bodies on this day as well as currently-- the initial step in the method of yoga nidra. Slowly the room quiets, till the only sounds are the hum of the ventilation system as well as Young boys' voice: 'Can you feel the inside of your mouth? Currently bring your attention to your left ear. Really feel the in of your left ear. Feel your right ear. Can you feel both ears simultaneously?' Around the room, deals with unwind, jaws soften, as well as soon snores begin to rumble as the men drop deeper into relaxation.

The Benefits of Yoga Nidra
Yoga nidra is an ancient however obscure yogic method that's ending up being increasingly popular as both a kind of meditation and a mind-body therapy. It is a systematic type of led leisure that typically is done for 35 to 40 mins at a time.
Practitioners say that it typically brings immediate physical advantages, such as lowered anxiety and also much better rest, and also that it has the possible to heal emotional wounds. As a meditation method, it could engender a profound feeling of delight as well as well-being.
' In yoga nidra, we recover our body, detects, and mind to their all-natural function and also awaken a 7th sense that permits us to really feel no splitting up, that only sees wholeness, harmony, and wellness,' states Richard Miller, a San Francisco Bay Area yoga teacher and professional psycho therapist who is at the center of the activity to educate yoga exercise nidra and to bring it to a broader audience.
While several popular instructors offer classes, CDs, and also publications on yoga nidra, Miller is accountable for bringing the practice to an impressive variety of ultramodern setups. He's aided present it on military bases and in professionals' clinics, homeless shelters, Montessori institutions, Head Beginning programs, medical facilities, hospices, chemical reliance facilities, as well as prisons. Exactly what's more, thanks to Miller, it's beginning to get significant scientific focus. Researchers are taking a look at the practice's potential to aid soldiers experiencing trauma, addicts struggling to obtain tidy, individuals with depression, cancer, as well as MS, health treatment employees, and also married pairs managing anxiety and insomnia.
More than 40 years ago, in 1970, Miller attended his very first yoga exercise class at the Essential Yoga exercise Institute in San Francisco. 'At the end of that course, they taught a customized yoga nidra-- deep Savasana,' he says. 'I had one of the most profound experience, there was this sense of my inter-relatedness with the whole world. As well as a vow occurred in me to actually investigate this practice.'
Over years of researching and teaching yoga nidra, Miller has actually developed his own strategy, discovering ways to make the technique accessible to a wide series of individuals, also those with little or no education in yoga exercise. In 2005, he released a publication, Yoga Nidra: An Introspective Technique for Deep Relaxation as well as Recovery, as well as he's released several audio guides. He currently leads the not-for-profit Integrative Reconstruction Institute, an organization committed to the research study, teaching, and also technique of yoga nidra and yoga philosophy.
' Lots of people are attempting to change themselves,' Miller claims. 'Yoga nidra inquires to welcome themselves. That moment of real inviting is where the extensive change takes place.'

You Do not Have to Do Yoga exercise or Practice meditation to Do Yoga exercise Nidra
It's a stealthily simple technique. Since yoga nidra is usually showed relaxing-- at first assisted by an educator-- it's interesting individuals that might feel frightened by yoga postures or conventional seated meditation. A short version of yoga nidra could be introduced and also practiced in much less than 10 minutes. Yet its various aspects, taken with each other as well as practiced frequently, make up an advanced set of mind-body tools that can aid professionals navigate some of life's harshest minutes. Yoga exercise nidra could likewise be practiced as an accessible kind of meditation for those seeking everyday well-being.
In a regular yoga exercise nidra session, an instructor guides experts with a number of stages. You start by developing an objective for your life as well as for the practice. You find out to concentrate your understanding on your breath, physical feelings, feelings, and also thoughts. Throughout, you are motivated to touch right into an underlying sense of tranquility that is constantly present and to cultivate 'witness awareness,' observing and welcoming whatever exists without getting captured up in it.
' Yoga exercise nidra allows us to get to one of the most extensive level of relaxation feasible,' claims Pole Stryker, the creator of Para-Yoga, who has actually been educating yoga exercise nidra because the mid-1990s and who composes about it in his publication, The Four Desires. 'It opens an entrance to a location where we could see ourselves and our lives in the most favorable light.'
Unlike various other kinds of reflection, in which you concentrate on a concept or on your breath, yoga nidra asks you simply to allow go. 'The technique requires us to involve the muscle mass of abandonment,' Stryker says.
Yoga Nidra for Remedy for PTSD
The course to bringing yoga nidra to the focus of a wider audience led, oddly enough, via the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, a military treatment center based, at the time, in Washington, DC. In 2004, Christine Goertz, a scholastic scientist at the Samueli Institute, a not-for-profit research study institute, teamed up with Robin Carnes, a yoga exercise teacher that had actually instructed yoga nidra as component of a cardiac care program at Walter Reed. Carnes had actually found out yoga exercise nidra from Stryker as well as from Miller's publication. She as well as Goertz made use of Miller's technique as the basis for a pilot research study examining whether the technique could help soldiers struggling with posttraumatic stress condition (PTSD). The results of that first small research, conducted with active-duty solution members, recommended that yoga exercise nidra might be valuable for handling PTSD in experts. (Along the road, somebody at Walter Reed suggested renaming the practice to something extra available, as well as Miller created 'iRest,' brief for 'Integrative Remediation.') As a follow-up, a randomized, regulated test entailing 150 participants was conducted over 18 months at the Veterans Affairs (VA) facility in Miami from 2009 to 2010. And also one more study is starting this winter season at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Facility in Chicago.
On the basis of the pilot research study results, the military is currently offering Miller's iRest yoga nidra practice to wounded warriors at Walter Reed, Brooke Military Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, Camp Lejeune, a big Marine Corps base in North Carolina, and VA centers in Miami, Chicago, and Washington, DC. In these recurring classes, soldiers have actually reported that a few of their most unpleasant PTSD signs and symptoms, consisting of hyperalertness, anxiety, and rest disruptions, have diminished.
Tools like yoga exercise nidra could be crucial sources for soldiers changing to life after battle, says Mona Bingham, a retired colonel who's investigating the practice at Brooke Military Medical Center. 'A great deal of soldiers are returning [from fight] with physical, mental, and ethical wounds,' she says. 'It's not something we could simply provide a medicine for.' She's examining iRest's result on army couples handling the tension that frequently arises after an implementation ends.
Yoga nidra literally means 'yogic rest,' however that is a little bit of a misnomer. It's not a special sort of rest, however a state in between sleeping and also waking.
Cheryl LeClair shows the iRest practice to marines with PTSD and terrible brain injuries at Camp Lejeune. 'Most of the men do not sleep,' she states. 'Some have actually informed me they take 2 Ambien a night, and also they still can not sleep. Many of them drop rest in the extremely first iRest session. To see them kick back as well as release is simply incredible.'
Like the marines in LeClair's classes, new specialists typically falling asleep during their initial couple of yoga nidra sessions. That's not unexpected, claims Stryker, because nowadays several individuals are rest deprived. Yoga nidra literally means 'yogic rest,' however that is a little bit of a misnomer. It's not a special sort of sleep, however a state in between sleeping and also waking. With more experience, Stryker claims, professionals can experience deep rest while preserving just what he calls 'just a trace of recognition.'
For LeClair, whose partner returned from Iraq in 2003 with a mind injury, PTSD, as well as a smashed vertebra in his neck, yoga exercise nidra has actually ended up being a vital part of obtaining with exactly what are often extremely trying days. (She handles the family members finances as well as much of the duty for raising a nine-year-old grandson.) She first experienced the practice at a weekend workshop. 'After I awakened, I said, 'Whatever that is, I want a lot more,'' she says. Now, when she gets overloaded, she remembers the lessons of yoga exercise nidra: 'If you can tip back and also witness the ideas without response, it gives you some space. You learn how to have equanimity.'

Yoga Nidra Aids Emotional Healing
The roots of yoga nidra are believed to go back countless years. When Miller adapted the trainings to earn them more obtainable to Westerners, he intended to address emotional health. 'The Eastern yoga exercise principles took it for given that you went to a particular state of wellness and also wellness,' he claims. 'Just what I saw was that this was not true of a lot of students. So I included the component of the Inner Source.'
Early on in Miller's yoga exercise nidra instruction, as you begin to kick back, you are asked to invoke up your very own personal Inner Source, a vision of and also really feeling concerning a place where you really feel secure and protected. If intense feelings surface throughout yoga exercise nidra-- or, for that issue, at any moment-- you can return to your Inner Source to take a break.
Charles, one of the males at Henry Ohlhoff North, relies on the technique frequently. A previous exec cook, he retired after a back injury left him in consistent discomfort. He ended up being addicted to alcohol and also medicines as well as, after three apprehensions on drug charges, chose rehab rather than jail.
Yoga nidra has assisted him locate his back to a part of himself unblemished by dependency as well as persistent pain. His Inner Source is the bakeshop his parents ran. 'I go back to my youth,' he says, 'doing chores in my parents' bakeshop. I think of my papa and also how good it really felt to have his arms around me.'
Earlier this year, when Charles was approved his initial overnight pass 2 months into his six-month rehabilitation remain, a close friend amazed him with a birthday celebration that consisted of alcohol. Charles began to panic.
' I headed out to my cars and truck, put my head back on the headrest, and also went into [the practice],' he claims. 'My breathing boiled down, and I can concentrate better.' After concerning half a hr, he opted to leave the celebration and also go back to the rehab center.
Early research sustains the suggestion that yoga nidra can assist people like Charles who remain in recovery from dependency. In a study of 93 people at a chemical reliance therapy center, Leslie Temme, a teacher in the social work division of Western Carolina University, found that participants who practiced yoga nidra had less adverse moods as well as a reduced risk of falling back into drug abuse. With its focus on self-awareness, yoga nidra appears in order to help recovering addicts really feel much more comfy in their own skin, cope better with hard emotions, as well as make far better choices, Temme states. What's more, she adds, 'The customers liked it. They were aligning at the door to obtain to it.'

Discover Your Connection to All Living Things
If you've ever before attempted to sit in meditation for HALF AN HOUR, you understand that you don't need to be recouping from trauma to be unpleasant in your very own mind. As a reflection method, yoga exercise nidra offers a mild approach, starting with body awareness, after that working compassionately with thoughts and emotions as they occur, and slowly leading the meditator to access a better area of recognition. Actually, in several of the earliest written referrals to the term yoga exercise nidra, it is identified with samadhi, or union, the supreme goal of the eightfold path.
This aspect of yoga exercise nidra is perhaps one of the most tough to take into words, however, for Miller, it's the core of the method. Discovering to observe and invite all the feelings, feelings, as well as thoughts that develop in deep remainder could lead an individual to become less identified with the specific self-- just what Miller calls the 'I-thought.' Through this experience, he says, it's feasible to lose the feeling that one is different from others and also to tap into an unsinkable feeling of interconnectedness to all of life.
And when that happens, Miller claims, 'There's a deep swimming pool of wellness. It's just what I discovered because first yoga exercise nidra session in 1970. That's exactly what I attempt to share.'

Happy Birthday, berserkbookworm
February 5 - soulmate fic with Daisy/Jean Grey, but I can't decide if I want something fluffy, cracky, or angsty (with a happy ending). Whatever works best with the author for @berserkbookworm
Written by @ladywinterlight
Note: Bit of angst and a bit of fluff. I hope you enjoy! Set in the aftermath of AoS S2e12.
Skye sat in the Cage on the Bus, keeping an eye on her laptop where the feed from the Bus cameras was displayed. As if Sif and Vin-Tak weren’t enough to shake her up, then she’d heard her so-called teammates discussing the situation. And if that hadn’t been enough to strengthen her resolve to shut herself away until it was safe, the pair of agents that tried to jump her in the hangar bay certainly had been.
She hadn’t even had to hijack the security system or the locking protocols on the Cage. She’d written the protocols; she had full access. There were a limited number of people who could override the locks, and she was reasonably certain Coulson or May would try to talk to her first.
It was only slightly reassuring when Coulson left a paper grocery bag in the hall outside the Cage door; he looked right up at the camera and gestured to the bag, then left again. She waited until he’d exited the plane and shut the ramp before opening the door to retrieve the bag.
It was full of food. Dry sausage that didn’t need refrigeration, crackers, oranges and bananas, meal replacement shakes, and a couple bottles of water. If she timed trips out to the bathroom right, she could stay safely in the Cage for a few days. Maybe Coulson hoped to have a solution before it came to that.
And perhaps he’d found one. Skye watched, over the cameras, as a sleek stealth jet landed in the hanger the next afternoon. Coulson and May stepped into the bay as soon as the engines had fully shut down, and a very distinguished looking gentleman in a sophisticated wheelchair rolled down the ramp to meet them. After a few moments of discussion, the trio - joined by a fourth, a fair-skinned woman with brilliantly red hair - entered the Bus.
Skye’s cell beeped notification of a text, and she checked it quickly. It was from Coulson.
Please come out, Skye. You’re safe and no one will hurt you.
She hesitated for several long moments, but in the end she decided to trust Coulson. Unlocking the door, she made her way up to the lounge. Skye paused in the doorway, knowing by the way silence quickly fell that she’d been the topic of conversation.
When no one else broke the silence, she did. She looked from the older gentleman to the redhead and sighed. “Are you here to put me down or lock me up so I can’t hurt anyone?”
The woman gasped, her eyes going wide. “No. Never. We’re here to help you, not hurt you.” Her tone rang with sincerity. She shifted, poised to move quickly, but a sharp glance from both Coulson and the unknown man kept her in her seat.
Oh, now that was unexpected. Skye knew those words had been written on her left shoulder blade her entire life. She’d just never expected to hear them under the current circumstances. Then she closed her eyes as she realized she’d given her soulmate words that asked if they were going to kill her. That was something to truly regret.
“My name is Charles Xavier, and Director Coulson called to see if we could perhaps assist. You see, I run a school for the gifted - but not just in the usual sense. Those gifted with powers.”
Skye’s eyes darted back to the man and she let a breath out slowly. “I’m sorry. That was rude of me. But… it has been a very rough few days.”
“Under the circumstances, we forgive you,” Xavier said with a kind smile. “Gaining new powers is often traumatic for the person involved. You’re not school-aged anymore, clearly, but you are welcome to return to the school with us and learn control of your new power.”
“You should go with them, Skye,” Coulson added softly. “They can teach you to manage your power, help you in ways we can’t. I hate to see you go, but I want you to be safe and to learn control.”
“If my choices are that or hiding in the Cage until someone else comes to attack me,” Skye said slowly, “then going is my only good option.”
The redheaded woman rose swiftly, ignoring any attempts to gesture her to wait further. “Anyone else who tries is going to have far more to deal with than they’d expect,” she said fiercely, stopping when they were just inches apart. “You’re not alone, Skye.”
The woman’s expression rivaled May’s for sheer protective rage. It made Skye smile just a little. “I hoped that would be the case, when we finally met. What’s your name?”
“I’m Jean. Jean Grey.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Jean. I’m sorry your soulmark words suck so much.”
Jean managed a smile and shook her head. “It’s all right. But please believe me when I say that anyone trying to hurt you is going to have to go through me first, and there are several people they’d probably have to go through to get to me at all. My friends are a rather protective bunch.”
Skye laughed, for the first time since San Juan. “I think I can live with that.”
Coulson cleared his throat. “We can leave you two ladies alone for a short while, if you’d like.”
“I’d honestly rather leave as soon as possible, Director Coulson,” Jean said over her shoulder, not letting Skye out of her sight.
“I’ll pack your things for you, Skye,” May offered. “If you’d rather not go back into the base.”
“Thanks, May. I think that’s for the best.”
“I will wait for you on the jet, then,” Xavier told them as May swiftly departed. “Coulson and I have a few details to discuss.”
“Of course, Professor,” Jean agreed. “I can help you gather up whatever’s here?” she asked Skye in a softer voice.
“It’s not much, but sure.”
When Skye opened the door to the Cage, Jean looked around and anger swelled again. “They kept you in here?” she asked, aghast.
Gathering up her laptop, Skye shook her head. “No. I locked myself in here. It was safer… for me, and for them.”
Jean blinked for a moment at that. “For them?”
“Did Coulson tell you about… me?” Skye asked.
“No,” Jean shook her head. “Just that he had a gifted on his hands that needed help. That you were trying very hard not to hurt anyone.”
“I suppose we haven’t really figured out what to call it. I… shake things. The ground. The room. Once, a gun that was in my hand. It just kinda shook itself apart,” Skye admitted shyly.
“We can figure it out, I promise you,” Jean soothed. Sharp green eyes raked over Skye from head to toe. “You look exhausted. Are… no, of course you’re not okay. Would you like a hug?”
“That… sounds nice, actually,” Skye agreed. She finished putting her computer accessories into the laptop case and closed it. As soon as it left her hands, Jean was beside her with open arms. Stepping into the embrace, Skye felt herself relax for the first time in who knew how long.
“What’s your school like?” Skye asked quietly, resting her head on Jean’s generous bosom. She closed her eyes and took a few deep, calming breaths.
“Some of the boys jokingly call it ‘mutant high’ but it’s true that most of our students are teens. Most of our people were either born with their powers or gained them at puberty,” Jean explained. “I studied there as a teen, too, and now I teach.”
“Teach what?”
“I’m a geneticist, Skye, specialized in human DNA and genetic mutation. I teach biology, primarily, but as we assess the gifts of individual students sometimes I help teach them control as well,” Jean explained.
“Fitz said my DNA changed dramatically when I gained my powers,” Skye said in a thoughtful tone. “I’ll ask May to copy my medical file for you, if you’d like.”
“I would appreciate it, though from the sounds of things you’re likely an entirely new case,” Jean accepted readily. She allowed Skye to free one arm long enough to send May a quick text. “But it doesn’t matter to me what your genes look like or how you gained your powers. I promise you, Skye.”
“Thanks,” Skye murmured as she slid the phone back into her pocket. “I guess we shouldn’t keep DC and your Professor waiting?”
Jean smiled a little. “They’ll forgive us for taking a little time to ourselves.”
“Oh, okay. Good,” Skye said, tipping her head back to meet her soulmate’s eyes. Deep topaz met bright emerald and their gazes locked. Skye had never felt calm radiate from someone the way she felt from Jean; even May’s careful control was often full of tension. And lately, no one had tried to offer her comfort outside of Fitz. This was… Jean was everything she needed, in that moment.
Neither knew who moved first; Skye’s chin lifted and Jean ducked her head down until their lips met. It was a slow kiss, sharing and utterly accepting. Non-judgemental. And absolutely perfect. They stayed that way, twined together for a blissful eternity, until Skye’s phone beeped. The alert broke into their preoccupation, and Skye blushed just a little.
“We should go,” Jean said lowly, not waiting for Skye to check her message. “But I’ll be right beside you. Every step of the way.”
“I’ll hold you to that,” Skye tried for teasing, but the words came out more serious than she intended.
“I hope you do,” Jean answered with a smile. “The closer the better. And on the flight back to the school, I’ll tell you about my powers too. After that, if you want to talk about getting yours I’ll listen, of course.”
“I look forward to learning about you. The rest… will come, I’m sure.” Skye returned the smile, feeling comfortable and in control for a change.
They gathered up the rest of her things and, hand-in-hand, the two women left the Bus behind.

Peterson Rich Office unveils design for new Davison Art Gallery in Connecticut, USA
New Davison Art Gallery Building Design
Middletown, CT, USA; August 3, 2021 – Today Peterson Rich Office (PRO) and Wesleyan University simultaneously unveiled and announced breaking ground on the new Davison Art Gallery. A significant and historic project for the 190-year-old liberal arts university, the PRO-designed 5,550 square foot art building will dramatically enhance Wesleyan’s student-serving facilities and integrate visual art into daily campus life as the first new art building in over 50 years, following the Center for the Arts completed in 1973 and designed by the late Kevin Roche. PRO is completing the project in collaboration with Newman Architects, a New Haven-based architecture firm working on other significant projects on campus, including the renovation of the connected Public Affairs Center.
Established in 1952, Wesleyan’s Davison Art Center holds an art collection of more than 25,000 works—including one of the finest print collections at any university in the United States, with works by Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, and Manet—but had not had adequate or archival space to store it or to exhibit it to the nearly 4,000 students, faculty and staff on its 360-acre campus.
Nestled between the University’s Public Affairs Center (PAC), currently undergoing renovation and expansion, and the historic McKim, Meade & White-designed Olin Memorial Library, PRO’s contemporary gallery will be accessible through the PAC and library, as well as creating a prominent new entrance and campus presence facing a great lawn along Church Street to the south. The new building will facilitate the multi-disciplinary study of visual culture in a space designed to foster community while also better connecting the east-west flow between buildings and north-south flow to Andrus Field. It will provide the exhibition component to complete the art collection‘s new home in centrally located Olin Library, designed by Newman and constructed by FIP in 2019, a move to expand and improve collection storage and symbolize the intended use of the collection as a teaching and learning resource for all departments and disciplines.
On their design approach, PRO founding principals and lead architects Nathan Rich and Miriam Peterson stated, “The new gallery presents an opportunity to expand the visual arts from the iconic Kevin Roche-designed Center for the Arts to the very heart of the campus. The building is deliberately designed for interdisciplinary learning and to expose a range of students to this renowned collection.”
Paying homage to the Center for the Arts and complementing the library’s base material, the new Davison Art Gallery will be constructed with blocks of Indiana limestone. The main Church Street-facing side of the building features a sweeping roof and glass-walled lobby that elegantly distinguishes the art space from its more interior-focused neighbors. Upon entering visitors will immediately feel a sense of intimacy and community before entering an expansive gallery designed to display a variety of light-sensitive pieces from the Davison Art Center’s collection. The design puts equal emphasis on exterior space as it does interior, and is surrounding a teaching courtyard and forecourt gathering space to welcome outdoor learning and socializing.
Building on Wesleyan’s 2016-2021 Sustainability Action Plan, the new Gallery prioritizes energy efficiency and social sustainability. Features include a green roof, radiant floors, displacement ventilation, sensor-controlled LED lighting, solar panels, and low-maintenance native green space that will establish a new prototype for sustainable landscaping on campus.
Unanimously chosen through a design competition, the new Davison Art Gallery will be PRO’s first ground-up building for the arts and education, building on the founders’ experience as project architects for major cultural projects at firms Steven Holl Architects and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects.
With this project, PRO currently has three arts and culture projects underway, including the Rubin Museum of Art’s Mandala Lab, an innovative initiative that uses the mandala as inspiration for teaching social, emotional, and ethical learning, in New York City and a new live/work studio for the artist Nina Chanel Abney in Hudson Valley, both slated for completion this fall. The firm is also overseeing the soon-to-be-revealed transformation of a historic Catholic Church into a new gallery and arts center and housing design as part of a multi-phased neighborhood redevelopment plan in Detroit.
The targeted completion date for the new Davison Art Gallery is Summer 2023.

The IoT Stock Boom is Back (SWKS, PI, LEAS, SLAB)

Gartner estimates that the IoT market will grow 21% next year. That would take it to 5.8 billion endpoints during that period. The biggest users: utilities—smart metering—are expected to rise 17% to reach 1.37 billion endpoints. The fastest grower is building automation, including lighting, rising by 42%, and followed by automotive applications (growing by 31%) and healthcare (increasing by 29%). Gartner also notes that it sees 8.4 billion connected things in place already, but by the end of this year, that number will be at over 20 billion. John Chambers, the luminary visionary in charge of Cisco during its heyday, believes that we will see 50 billion connected devices in the next half decade. That would amount to a total of nearly $20 trillion in market size. In fact, by the end of this year, nearly 70% of enterprises will depend on IoT products to some level. This is the IoT space by the numbers. And it’s likely going to turn out to be a series of underestimations and low-ball forecasts given the rate at which matter is turning into “smart matter” in this world. With that in mind, we take a look at a few interesting IoT stocks that may get increasing attention from the market, including: Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS), IMPINJ Inc (NASDAQ:PI), Strategic Asset Leasing Inc. (OTCMKTS:LEAS), and Silicon Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:SLAB). Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) designs, develops, manufactures, and markets proprietary semiconductor products, including intellectual property worldwide. The company provides its products for use in the aerospace, automotive, broadband, cellular infrastructure, connected home, industrial, medical, military, smartphone, tablet, and wearable markets. It sells its products through direct sales force, electronic component distributors, and independent sales representatives. Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) recently announced that that its Milpitas, Calif. facility has achieved AS9100D certification. According to the company, through its defense and space business (formerly known as Isolink), Skyworks is a leading global supplier of high performance, high-quality radiation-tolerant components for aerospace, defense, medical, extreme industrial and high-reliability markets and applications. If you're long this stock, then you're liking how the stock has responded to the announcement. SWKS shares have been moving higher over the past week overall, pushing about 6% to the upside on above average trading volume. Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) generated sales of $766.1M, according to information released in the company's most recent quarterly financial report. That adds up to a sequential quarter-over-quarter growth rate of -14.5% on the top line. In addition, the company has a strong balance sheet, with cash levels far exceeding current liabilities ($1.1B against $362.2M). IMPINJ Inc (NASDAQ:PI) operates a platform that enables wireless connectivity to various everyday items to business and consumer applications. Its integrated platform connects everyday items to applications, delivering real-time information to businesses about items they create, manage, transport, and sell. Its platform also consists of software offerings that include ItemSense, a system software that comprises enterprise-class RAIN deployment management, software-defined algorithms for transition detection, and APIs that enable application developers to build powerful IoT solutions. IMPINJ Inc (NASDAQ:PI) just released its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2020, including "Covid-19 negatively impacted our second-quarter results, and the continuing uncertainty tempers our third-quarter outlook," said Chris Diorio, Impinj co-founder and CEO. "Regardless, we see brightness ahead. Endpoint IC bookings are improving, large systems opportunities are accelerating and, longer term, we see adoption accelerating as leading end users leverage the improved visibility, insights, virtualization and customer experience that RAIN brings to their businesses." The context for this announcement is a bit of a bid, with shares acting well over the past five days, up about 10% in that timeframe. However, we should note that this is a $600M company that basically loses money on small revenues. IMPINJ Inc (NASDAQ:PI) pulled in sales of $26.5M in its last reported quarterly financials, representing top line growth of -30.7%. In addition, the company has a strong balance sheet, with cash levels far exceeding current liabilities ($120.9M against $24.4M). Strategic Asset Leasing Inc. (OTCMKTS:LEAS) is focused on leveraging technology assets with an initial focus on the Fintech Industry and the Internet of Things (IOT). The "Internet of Things", simply put, are devices and objects that also have an online connection such as personal voice assistants, smart home systems, video doorbells etc. These are rapidly growing sectors and LEAS will be developing and licensing technologies that will help companies penetrate these markets, thereby increasing shareholder value. Strategic Asset Leasing Inc. (OTCMKTS:LEAS) is headed by Jason Tucker, the company’s new CEO, who has 15 years of experience in Business Development, Project Management, Account Management, and Sales Engineering. He has extensive knowledge of logistics and core leadership skills, through many clinics and many years of working in the industry sector. The company recently announced that it has signed a development agreement with Product Design Experts, Inc. (PDE) to begin development of an Internet of things (IOT) product in the consumer security and safety market. According to the release, to help further deploy technology assets the Company has recruited Vincent Risalvato, CEO of PENNEXX Foods Inc. (OTC PINK:PNNX), to act as a technical advisor to the Company. The parties are also in talks to advance an opportunity in the future to partner PNNX with LEAS to connect IOT products with PNNX's merchants and users furthering the YourSocialOffers.com rewarding experience. Part of the Company's strategy is to develop tool kits that are pre-build designs that small companies can use to create products quickly and efficiently that interface with the Internet, dashboards, portals as well as existing devices like Amazon Alexa, Siri and Google home assistant devices. This strategy is based on the direction the industry has been heading. LEAS recently showed off what it can do, ramping from 0.0017 to 0.0070 (+312%) in just 5 days. The main pattern to note is the bullish ascending triangle pattern that has now broken out and suggests further strength ahead based on our research and experience. Strategic Asset Leasing Inc. (OTCMKTS:LEAS) is pre-revenue at this point, but clearly ramping toward some commercial “threshold” breakthroughs given its recent deal-making progress. Keep this one on the radar and check back often. Silicon Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:SLAB) provides mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) in the United States, China, and internationally. The company offers Internet of Things products, including 8-bit mixed-signal and ultra-low-power 32-bit microcontrollers (MCU); wireless MCU connectivity solutions; single and multi-protocol system-on-chip (SoC) devices and modules; wireless protocols, MCUs, and SoCs; in-house protocol stacks; Micrium, a real-time operating system that helps simplify software development for IoT developers; and sensor products comprising optical, relative humidity/temperature, and hall effect magnetic sensors. Silicon Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:SLAB) reported financial results for its second quarter ended July 4, 2020. Revenue was near the top end of the guidance range at $207.5 million, down from $214.9 million in the first quarter. Second quarter GAAP and non-GAAP diluted earnings (loss) per share (EPS) were $(0.04) and $0.74, respectively. "Second quarter revenue was at the high end of our guidance range at $207.5 million," said Tyson Tuttle, CEO of Silicon Labs. "Clearly, the global pandemic has and will continue to impact the way people live, work and play. We are well-positioned to execute our strategy in IoT connectivity and internet infrastructure in light of recent trends in the market, which we see accelerating as the world moves even faster to becoming more connected." The context for this announcement is a bit of a bid, with shares acting well over the past five days, up about 3% in that timeframe. SLAB shares have been relatively flat over the past month of action, with very little net movement during that period. Silicon Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:SLAB) generated sales of $207.5M, according to information released in the company's most recent quarterly financial report. That adds up to a sequential quarter-over-quarter growth rate of -3.4% on the top line. In addition, the company has a strong balance sheet, with cash levels far exceeding current liabilities ($723.3M against $135M). Read the full article

Low-Voltage Digital-Latch Hall Effect Sensor Market 2019-2027: Drivers, Key Players, Competitive Breakdown and Regional Analysis
Hall Effect Sensors comprise of a thin rectangular p-type semiconductor material, for example, indium arsenide, gallium arsenide, indium antimonide passing a consistent current through it. At the point when the gadget is put inside an attractive field, the attractive motion lines apply a power on the semiconductor material which diverts the electrons and holes and charge bearers, to each side of the semiconductor slab. This development of charge bearers is a consequence of the attractive power they encounter going through the semiconductor material. Latching hall effect sensors provides the digital output hall effect switches that latch the output state. Latches are identical to bipolar switches, that have a negative BRP and positive BOP, but offers tight control as compared to switching behavior. For operation of latches, it requires presence of both negative and positive magnetic fields. When a magnet with a south polarity of acceptable magnetic flux density will tend the device to turn on state. Once the device is turned on it latches its state, even if the magnetic field is removed. A device is turned off when a sufficient amount of magnetic field of a north polarity is presented, latching a device in changed state. The effect of producing a sufficient amount of voltage to turn on the device is termed as hall effect. In other words, when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the voltage perpendicular to the current and the magnetic field is generated.
Hall Effect Sensors are used for speed, position and acceleration detection. They also determine the index counting, object recognition, automatic doors and so on. Hall effect sensors have wide application in industrial and automotive industries. The major parameters that drives the growth of the low-voltage digital-latch hall effect sensor market includes high magnetic sensitivity, robust hysteresis, high speed of operation, and wide temperature range. One of the major restraint that restricts the growth of the global low-voltage digital-latch hall effect sensor market is that the hall effects sensor can be affected by external magnetic field. However, the use of hall effect sensors in power train control and the crankshaft applications is anticipated to boost the growth of the low-voltage digital-latch hall effect sensor market.

AsBAA Appoints Jeff Chiang as Chief Operating Officer

The Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) has appointed Jeff Chiang as Chief Operating Officer. Holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Politics and History from the University of Toronto and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from City University of Hong Kong, Jeff was a solicitor in a Hong Kong law firm before his switch into business aviation. He remains a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong and currently holds a valid practicing certificate as well as a New Zealand Private Pilot’s License.

Jeff started his business aviation career with Asia Jet’s aircraft charter team and soon after became involved with aircraft management sales. He held a leadership role at Asia Jet after its acquisition by Hongkong Jet in late 2016, and his latest role prior to joining AsBAA was as Senior Sales Manager for Hongkong Jet and Asia Jet, where he was responsible for aircraft management and aircraft charter sales. Zhendong Wu, Chairman of AsBAA said, “AsBAA has been working towards appointing a full-time leader for some years; having been largely run by volunteer board members since the year 2000. The position is vital to the stability, direction, and strength of the association and its ability to represent the industry in Asia. The decision to appoint Jeff Chiang is a strategic move; he holds the right professional skills and personal qualities to lead AsBAA to the next phase.” Based in AsBAA’s Hong Kong office, Jeff will be responsible for liaising with the association’s Board of Governors and will report to its Board of Directors. Competitive Price outdoor IP65 waterproof 300W 200W 150W 100W LED Stadium Lighting exterior flood lights
In the top tiers of many professional sports, it is a requirement for stadiums to have exterior flood lights to allow games to be scheduled outside daylight hours. Evening or night matches may suit spectators who have work or other commitments earlier in the day, and enable television broadcasts during lucrative primetime hours. Some sports grounds which do not have permanent exterior flood lights installed may make use of portable temporary ones instead. Many larger floodlights will have gantries for bulb changing and maintenance. These will usually be able to accommodate one or two maintenance workers.

Exterior flood lights with light towers
Most importantly, the exterior flood lights should be capable of lighting a vast area without creating any shadow and the generator set should be built in order to provide uninterrupted power supply with sufficient fuel back-up. The pole of the unit should be sturdily built with flexible fixtures and the trailer must be strong, robust and durable enough to hold the entire unit. The varied applications of light towers in remote and rugged locations under unfavorable environment and harsh weather conditions have increased the significance of light towers tenfold. Portability and user-friendliness has added more benefits to this lighting equipment, which is used for a wide range of applications and services like construction and repair of rail and motor roads, lighting for airports, stadium, hotels, resorts, properties, construction sites, search and rescue operations, exhibitions and oil drilling refineries.

How the Withlacoochee Forest came to be - part 2
This is the second part of an article that is based on the work of Sid Taylor, Florida Forester, and local historian. Sid has tirelessly worked to document the Withlacoochee Forest's history. NatureCoaster was blessed to see one of her presentations on the subject a few years ago and contacted her. Sid Taylo graciously shared her research and sources with NatureCoaster, and that is the basis of this series. If you missed part one, click here to read it.

Raymond and Margaret Robins donated 2,000 acres of their Chinsegut Hill estate to the Federal Government as a Wildlife Sanctuary and Agricultural Experimental Station. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. Local Social and Economic Needs championed by Colonel Raymond and Margaret Robins The local social and economic needs were known in Washington, DC, partially due to Colonel Raymond Robins, who knew and advised six U.S. Presidents over his lifetime (1873-1954) and lived in Brooksville. Raymond Robins and Margaret Drier Robins donated 2,000 acres of their nearby Chinsegut Hill estate to the Federal Government as a Wildlife Sanctuary and Agricultural Experimental Station on April 9, 1932. The First Civilian Conservation Corps project Begins in Brooksville Work started there as the first Civilian Conservation Corps project, dubbed “CCC AG-1.” You can still see two bronze plaques immortalizing their achievements at Chinsegut Hill Manor Museum and Retreat Center.

The first Civilian Conservation Camp was in Brooksville, as part of the Chinsegut donation. This was part of Roosevelt's famous "New Deal," and it provided paid training to young men so they could support their families. Image by Renee Berger. The Civilian Conservation Corps projects were begun to train young men and provide income that they could use to support their families, thereby saving family farms and training the U.S. work force that would later fight and win World War II. Local tradition suggests that the Civilian Conservation Corps also participated in the work on the Withlacoochee Resettlement Land Use Demonstration Project, but there is no substantiating documentation to support that presumption.
Restoring the Land and Rebuilding the Forest

At the peak of production in March 1936, 899 people were being paid. These men planted trees in one of the first forest reclamation projects planned, funded, and managed by the U.S. government. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. The first Withlacoochee Resettlement Land Use Demonstration Project manager was John Wallace. John was the brother of then U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Henry Agard Wallace, who became FDR’s Vice President in 1941. He moved to the area from St. Petersburg and put his staff together by the end of 1934. John and Henry were the sons of Henry Cantell Wallace, a Republican and a progressive farmer in Iowa, who also served as Secretary of Agriculture (1921-1924) in Warren G. Harding’s Administration.

John Wallace is supervising the planting and growing of pine trees by WPA workers. Image courtesy of Sid Taylor Brooksville was chosen as the center for the project due to its manageable distance from Ocala, Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg. The New Deal planners thought it feasible for unemployed urban men to commute by bus to work.
How the Withlacoochee Forest was Created
At the peak of production in March,1936, 899 people were being paid. Five fire-look-out sites with houses and out-buildings were constructed and the Forest’s headquarters site was erected. These laborers were paid by the Works Project Administration (WPA) for the duration of the Resettlement Administration (January 1935 through March 31, 1937).

Five fire lookout sites and towers were constructed and the Withlacoochee Forest's Headquarters was erected. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. The Resettlement Administration branch of the FDR’s New Deal brought $261,307 of wages into the local economy over two years through this project. The Withlacoochee project provided an ideal place to test and demonstrate land reclamation and restoration techniques and strategies.

The Withlacoochee Forest Headquarters on US 41 today includes a visitor center, fleet operations center and employee buildings. Image by Diane Bedard. The mission statement of the RA was to provide acreage for forestry, wildlife, game conservation, recreation, and extensive grazing or multi-land use. This was to be based on principles and practices adaptable by private individuals and corporations, as well as State and Federal agencies. Fighting Fire in the Forests: New Methods would give Good Results

Forest fires were a real problem before the Florida Forest Service. The Withlacoochee Rettlement Land Use Demonstration Project had wildfire control as one of its goals. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. The initial goals of the Withlacoochee Resettlement Land Use Demonstration Project included controlling the wildfires that had become a constant threat with slash, or the remnants of the logging business, littering the forest floor. Some of the first projects included building 357 miles of access trails through the newly acquired land. These were created as a priority to reach remote areas for fire suppression.

Forty-one miles of telephone lines throughout the Withlacoochee Forest were strung to provide communication. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. Five fire towers and 41 miles of telephone lines were strung to provide communication. This attitude of fire suppression prevailed until the system of controlled, prescribed fire was awakened as a management tool in 1941. The Beginnings of Prescribed Burns

This 1940s US Forest Service fire truck was part of the solution to manage fire, thereby helping prevent wildfires. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. John Bethea, Florida State Forester from 1970-1987, told an Oral Historian on November 18, 1998 that the first real effort to promote controlled burning happened in 1949. Trainers and demonstrators were sent out by Tallahassee to change the public’s minds about fire, and to distinguish between burning as a tool versus the havoc of uncontrolled wildfires.

Putting out forest fires then. Image courtesy of Florida Memory. Today, with a mature forest, the pine dominate ecosystem is managed, and succession growth stymied by prescribed burning on a two- to four-year rotation schedule. This provides a healthy forest that regenerates growth of new trees from seed kernels within the pine cones. The Florida Forestry Service works so that we never have to see a wanton wasteland within the boundaries of Withlacoochee State Forest again.

Firefighters conducting a controlled burn in current times. Image courtesy of Susan Strawbridge Withlacoochee Forest created to Give Life Meaning, Joy and Beauty Henry Wallace was the Secretary of Agriculture at the onset of the New Deal. He said that he hoped conservation projects like the Withlacoochee Forest could “leave something that contributes toward giving (to) life meaning, joy and beauty.” The Withlacoochee State Forest is here for our enjoyment because the Federal Government planted trees beginning in 1935. Franklin Delano Roosevelt promoted both the conservation of the human spirit by putting people to work, and the conservation of the natural resources by replenishing what had been taken from the land.

Today the Withlacoochee State Forest offers outdoor recreation for visitors. Image courtesy of Pat Manfredo. In 2019, over 164,000 non-contiguous acres provide residents and visitors with many recreational opportunities in the Withlacoochee State Forest. There are trails for hiking, biking, horse riding and driving, off-highway vehicle and birding. Camping is available by calling 877-879-3859. Water recreation facilities include boat ramps, canoe launches, docks, and fishing. Additionally, the Croom Motorcycle Area offers a unique venue to take 4-wheelers and motorized bikes on paths through this amazing location.

OHV/ATV enthusiasts find miles of trails within the 2,600-acre Croom Motorcycle Area (CMA) at Withlacoochee State Forest. Image by rihaij/Pixabay. Other features include hunting, nature study, restrooms, showers, pavilions, picnic tables, grills, stables and dining halls. Leashed pets are allowed in several locations. Stop at the Visitor’s Center at 15003 Broad Street (US41) in Brooksville for brochures. The Visitors Center hours are Monday - Friday, except holidays from 8 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., although the hours may change without notice. Please call ahead if you plan to stop by.
