One of my head canons is that Navi (or at least the Omaticaya) can't thermo-regulate very well. They're so SKINNY, and both the places we've been to look to have very warm and temperate climates. It's just something that they never evolved to do because they never needed to. Humans thermo-regulate pretty well, and I think this ability would translate somewhat to the avatars.

This breeds some "Jake is weird" moments where everyone is getting out thick blankets and starting many warming fires because of a cold night or the onset of a cold season and Jake is just standing there like, "Y'all it's not even below 60 degrees" (I'm a fahrenheit person). Neytiri thinks she's struck gold because her Jake gives of body heat like nobody's business and is perfect to be next to on cold nights.

Spider, fully human, is even more of a personal furnace. The kids FIGHT over who gets to cuddle with him on cold nights. Meanwhile him and Jake are looking at each other like, "I feel like it could be way colder" "oh it can, on earth the rain turns into mini-ice when it gets cold" "damn" "yeah, this is way better"

I love this idea, it fuels me sometimes.

spider is like a personal heated pillow of sorts, cause not only is he warm as fuck compared to his siblings, but he's also very squishy compared to them, and in general (cause the kids buff as shit and muscle is super soft when not tensed up). I'd be fighting over him too, he'd gotta feel like a big teddy bear, even just to other humans, let alone the na'vi.

I like to think that in the case of spider being accepted by neytiri as a kid, him and jake were forced to sleep in the middle of the pile to keep everyone warm when they wanted to be edge sleeps so they could sorta cool off and not overheat. neytiri would also steal spider from the kids and hold him all night long cause she's his mom and she has first dibs on using her son as a personal space heater.

I do also love the idea of jake and spider constantly overheating when doing things the na'vi way, especially during the cooler months, cause while the na'vi are freezing at the absolutely frigid temps for mid to low 60s, jake and spider are like, at the optimal temp. so when they get blankets and shawls piled on them like everyone else, they're legit dying. they have to have their own system to regulating their human/avatar temp needs throughout the seasons, cause otherwise they will die of heat stroke.

I'd love to see the sully family explore even colder climates, like, jake and spider having fun in the snow, while the kids and neytiri are literally popsicles. both boys resign to their fates as human defrosters soon after.

Law puts his cold feet on you when you're both in bed, but the cool sensation feels good, and somehow he always manages to find some knot or tight place that could use it. Eventually the two of you even out on body temp from the contact and when you wake up in the morning you're tangled in his limbs. Whether you run over warm or not, you run warmer than him.

Ace Sabo and Kid.... hmmm now there's an interesting threesome. >.>

A nice thing about Kid is if he knows he runs too warm for you, he can just bring in and switch out cool (or cooled) pieces of metal to help keep you from overheating. (he's such a sucker for his love when he falls that I can see him making a prosthetic arm with a cooling system in it so he can hold you and help keep you cool.)

Poor Ace getting Sad Puppy because he can't snuggle, finally just tosses you into an ice bath until you're shivering and then hugs and snuggles you for a good hour and warms you back up. Not the most ideal way to cool off (Though I can see the Moby heading to a winter island if a particularly long number of hot days piles up on the crew.)

No Devil Fruit Sabo probably runs fairly neutral. I can see his scars feeling warmer, but not by too much.

xD Also I don't know how to respond to that last one, but I suppose I do have quite a few of these guys rummaging around in my brain. It's kind of like a computer though, there's only a couple active windows at a time, and the background programs are fairly easy to ignore until I switch my focus (for whatever reason).

-He’s got a metal rib cage but due to his thick skin, it hasn’t been noticed. When it does, Editor uses a car magnet to keep Polyblank in place

-Due to how his near metal skeleton and how he was born in some tube, Polyblank fears large bodies of water where he can’t see the bottom. He sends him into a panic. He barely tolerates having to be shut down so he can be put in recovery tank unless either his creator or his agent superiors are within sight

-Polyblank can dye his hair different colors if he drinks bleach first followed by dye. If he drinks bleach, his hair turns blond

-The people who made Polyblank’s model gave him long lashes to keep dust and the like out of his delicate eyes and a wide chest for easy access to the insides. Now as for the lower regions…

Since a few people are struggling with the heat, just thought of putting something out here to help anyone that might find them useful to cope in this weather. I live in a country with a consistent temperature of 35C ~ 39C (95 ~ 103F) and seldom use my AC due to rising electricity bills in recent years. I do find it hot occasionally, but there are a couple of things I'd do to make them bearable.

Don'ts:

Don't drink any drinks that contain malt or sugar. Ingestion of sugar will cause a surge in blood circulation and make you feel hotter from inside out, due to rising body temperature.

Don't drink cold water. Drink only water at room temperature or slightly cooler than that. Your body is required to heat up cold water when it enters your bloodstream, producing a similar effect to the previous bullet point.

Don't lie in bed all day. When your body is hot, the heat gets transferred to the bed, then you'll feel hot. It's a cycle. Consider moving around a bit.

Don't draw the curtains or close windows or doors in your house or apartment. It might sound a bit contradictory to let the sun in, but actually, airing out the place will provide more room to breathe. Letting the bad air out (air that people exhale), and preventing them from circulating in the same room, especially for small and compact apartments. As long as you're not sitting in direct sunlight, it's not going to be too hot.

Don't shower using a heater. If you're accustomed to a heater it might feel uncomfortable at first, but you'll feel better the more times you do it.

Do:

Drink only tea or plain water. Drink water at room temperature or slightly cooler. The latter is preferable.

If you choose to drink tea, consider trying flower tea. Don't buy the ones premade in a teabag, they're scams. Buy organic ones that comes in the form of flower buds/with petals. Rose/Jasmine/Amanrath/French Rose has the best taste. Lavender tastes quite strong and can be a bit weird for some. Flower tea helps you get better sleep, too.

Move around the house or apartment. I understand the bed is the most attractive piece of furniture in the entire house, but staying in bed all day will actually make one feel even hotter. Moving around allows the bed to cool off and you'll get a very comfortable place to lie on when you come back. Sitting around on couches or at dining tables to work on handicrafts/laptops are nice choices when you're not in your bed.

Open doors and windows if you can afford to. It allows air in and room to breathe.

Leave the house or apartment when you can. All the same, especially for small apartments, breathing in the same air you exhale can make the place seem stuffy and provoke a headache/migraine. Talk a walk during sunrise/sunset, around 30 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week.

Shower multiple times a day, and shower using cold water. Water is cheaper than electricity, at least where I'm from. But don't shower with shampoo if you're worried it'll dry up your hair or skin. Bathing in cold water alleviates a lot of the heat.

Leave a body of water with a large surface area in the room to help with humidity. I usually use a bowl. If the humidity is bad it gets dried up pretty fast.

Eat less frequently and few and far in between. It might be difficult for people who snacks when they're bored, but operating on an empty stomach, or when you're never more than 70% full, does help a lot.

Most of these I picked up during my stay in the army a few years ago, where we didn't have access to any common facilities except four fans in a dorm of 26 people, a bed, and a wooden cabinet. We used to get our water supply by fetching them from mountain streams because the water system breaks down frequently

Might not work for everyone but as long as it helps in certain ways I'm more than happy to have posted this.

FLEKKERØY is named for the southern Norwegian island from which she originally operated. She’s shown here in 1940 in an image taken from the deck of a Swedish freighter.

FLEKKERØY Facts

FLEKKERØY is a double-ended pilot cutter built in 1936 in Høllen, Norway. Her keel, stem, and sternpost are of white oak. Her 5″ (sided) frame futtocks are of Norwegian pine, which makes each double-sawn frame 10″ wide; they are spaced about 20″ on center. The planking is 2″ white oak fastened with trunnels measuring 1¼" in diameter. The trunnels have conical heads, go all the way through the frames, and are split and wedged on the inside. The deckbeams are of roughly 6″ × 6″ pine and rest on 3″ × 8″ sheer clamps, also of pine. The deck planking is 2″ pine. The deckhouse, stanchions, covering boards, and caprail are of white oak.

The boat measures 40′8″ on deck, and is about 57' overall if you count the spars. Her beam is 15′2″ and draft is 6'. Her volume is 17.04 GRT, and she displaces 55,000 lbs. She is rigged as a gaff cutter with a mast measuring 53′ from the waterline, and a retractable bowsprit. Her sail area of 1,345 sq ft is divided into four sails: a mainsail of 610 sq ft, a staysail of 245 sq ft, a jib of 335 sq ft, and a topsail 155 sq ft. We also have two smaller jibs and one bigger one.

For no-wind conditions, she is equipped with a British Leyland 113-hp six-cylinder diesel engine, with a 4:1 PRM gearbox and a 32″ Variprop feathering propeller. She has no outside ballast, so ballast consists of 9,000 lbs of lead ingots placed in the bilges. The rudder is of white oak and is hung outside on the sternpost and steered with a tiller. She has a Windpilot servo-pendulum windvane selfsteering system. The anchor windlass is a manual two-speed double-action Simpson-Lawrence with 300′ of ½″ chain and an 88-lb Rocna anchor as the main bower. There are no other winches onboard.

For heat we have a Kabola diesel pot burner of 4.6W, and a Webasto diesel cabin heater of 5kW.

Lighting consists of a mix of kerosene and electric lamps. Cooking is done on an Eno propane stove with two burners and an oven. The Kabola also has a cooking top. We have a cooler with electric refrigeration, but when the water is cold, the bilges work just as well. The tankage is 135 gallons of fuel and the same amount of fresh water. Communications are made via mail (the one with stamps), VHF radio, HF radio, and the occasional WiFi connection.

Squash - I haven't celebrated a tradition for a while since I've been feeling disconnected spiritually. I'm hoping to turn that around this year. Back in 2019, I decorated our old house with halloween themed decor (and had them up through winter), I played nightly horror movies, and I would also routinely cleanse my home with palo santo and do weekly rituals to bring peace and warmth into my home as the weather got cooler. (In 2018 our heater broke during a freeze and our ex landlord never replaced or even bothered to fix the system so it was always a game of wait and see).
