Help Us Heal Romeo, Our Sweet New Rescue, and Give Him the Life He Deserves!

Meet Romeo;

Romeo’s life almost ended far too soon. This gentle 2-year-old Pitbull mix, with his soft tan fur and soulful hazel eyes, was on the euthanasia list at the shelter, simply because there wasn’t enough space. He’s a beautiful, loving soul who, through no fault of his own, almost became another tragic statistic.

Thanks to a compassionate foster and our team at Infinite Hearts Dog Sanctuary, Romeo was given a second chance just in time. But the road to recovery for him is going to be a long one. The shelter environment was hard on him—he developed painful dermatitis, which causes constant itching and discomfort. His paws are red and sore from excessive licking, a coping mechanism he developed while trying to soothe himself in that stressful environment. Now that he’s safe with us, we’re committed to helping him heal, but he needs specialized care, and we can’t do it without you.

Romeo requires medications to treat his dermatitis and relieve the irritation on his paws. He’ll also need specialized vet visits, skin care, and nutritional support to help him regain his health. Every donation helps us get him the treatment he desperately needs and allows him to feel comforted, loved, and safe for perhaps the first time in his life.

But our sanctuary is small, and we rely on the incredible generosity of supporters to make this kind of care possible. We’ve set up a GoFundMe to help cover Romeo’s medical expenses. Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly toward Romeo’s care and his journey to finding a forever home.

Imagine what it’s like for a dog who’s only known stress and fear to suddenly experience love and security. That’s what we want for Romeo. We want him to know what it feels like to be part of a family, to feel the joy of play without pain, and to sleep peacefully, knowing he’s safe. He deserves a future filled with comfort, health, and happiness, and we can make that happen together.

Chapter Two: The Fallen Democracy.

You shifted uncomfortably at the small metal desk in your single room, glancing back at the springy mattress behind you, a small, thin floral duvet messily lay over the top of it, you knew sleep wasn't going to be great tonight, not just because of the condition of the mattress, but because of all the thoughts inside your head.

It had been a stressful day since you all planned the big rescue yesterday, things had been tense, to say the least. Maybe you were over-procrastinating, you were sure that it’d be ok, it had to be. You couldn’t deal with the guilt of knowing people were out there desperate, and the look on the children’s faces any longer.

Plus, you had started to notice that the power advantage you and your peers had over the people here started to get to most of your co-workers' heads, and not in a caring or concerned way for those in the cages. But a cocky and pompous way.

You had noticed how some of the men would take some of the women out sometimes, then bring them back. They were nasty. You had to get justice, you had to free them.

The world may be bad out there, but it can’t get any worse than this. This wasn’t a ‘shelter’ it was a damn concentration camp.

And this was most definitely not what you signed up for. You and your friends had decided to form secret espionage, send someone higher up out of all of you to spy on the Generals, Lieutenants, and basically everybody who had a say on the democracy of this whole damn system.

You all didn’t care what the verdict was, you were getting those people out of here either way. Even if you stepped on some toes whilst doing so. Your job was to care for humanity and you weren’t just gonna watch it fall apart at the seams.

You watch the clock tick repeatedly, inching toward the desired number for your meeting with your friends, before it hit the 7pm mark, you open your door hesitantly and start to walk toward the Reception Station as planned. The reception station was stacked with bunk beds, most of the crew members headed off for an early sleep but you had a lot to do before you slept since tomorrow was the day you were going to get out of Fort Benning and take the captives with you.

"What're we gonna do? The six of us won't be able to free hundreds of people..." You ask, glancing at the shiny hardwood floor. There was a tense, awkward silence until Priya informed "I think we save ourselves and get the fuck out of here before we all get ourselves killed." She sinks into a whisper, being sure not to wake any of the sleeping peers up. She runs a hand through her long, black hair before scooping it up from the front to the back to pull it into a ponytail.

Everybody seemed to glare at her, deep down you understood what she meant. Priya noticed the disapproving glances she was being given and sighed, "Alright..god, let's take four people, we'll free the rest but they don't have to come with us. Sound good?"

You liked her ideas, she thinks smart and she keeps survival in mind, optimistic but she doesn't set unrealistic standards. "I'm glad Cris brought you along, you got good ideas...I agree with her plan, we're giving everyone a chance to leave, just not all with us." you evangelize, taking a deep breath as you wait for the others to answer too. You had to agree together on this.

There was some hesitance from other people, but in the end, they had to trust this would work out. This place wasn't any better than out there, if not worse. You had noticed how many people they'd send out there, to die. Soldiers were slowly disappearing all the time, there was something wrong here.

"We do it tomorrow, at sunset, sound good? Cris can talk to his technician friend, or we can try and swipe some keys. We'll go at dawn, see who wants to go with us." Priya explains, glancing at everybody within the circle, looking for approval.

"I like it, let's do it."

That was the plan, set into place and ready to go...here comes the hard part.

THE NEXT DAY: 12:42pm.

You tie the lace of your combat boots, ready to go. You slip the pistol into the back of your army-print trousers, along with a fixed blade knife with the cover on it into the holster pocket on your leg, which was hidden by your trousers. You reach for the duffel bag on the desk, pull it over your head so it hangs on your shoulder. God, were you nervous. You knew that Cris and Priya would be raiding the artillery and you, Mina, and Seth were in charge of food and water, and that left Tammy to head into the electronic technical station, to unlock all of the doors. You still had a few hours, but you had to settle on who you were going to save.

Mina had assigned all of you to the hall on the rotor, so nobody else would be around. Tammy would cut off the cameras, and unlock the doors. Then you'd meet up at the fire exit near the girl's bathroom. Priya was a Logistic Corps Driver, so she could arrange a truck. Then, you'd be straight out. Right?

One baby was born with physical deformities, and though we were hopeful he would be okay, he sadly passed away when he was just under a week old. Billie did a great job raising the remaining babies, and now they’re ready to find their forever home! Turnip, Lettuce, and Peas are lovely little boys. Their foster family have been handling them every day, but like most guinea pigs, they still don’t enjoy being handled all that much. They have too much to do to be picked up! They have many places to explore and tasty veggies to eat! They want to get all the fun in while they’re young. 🙂 The boys had a check-up at the vet and they were given a clean bill of health. Guinea pigs need company, and we’d love it if Turnip, Lettuce, and Peas could find their forever home together. They’re still very small, so they are currently living in a Midwest Guinea Pig Habitat, but as they get bigger, they’d need three of these cages attached together to provide enough space for them to be comfortable. We also recommend C & C cages that you can make yourself. They’re less expensive than pet store cages and they provide a lot more room, which guinea pigs definitely need.
