Unending stories of our youth

This month we asked these 9 people to dress up in various club attires, and talk about stories from their youth that they associate with the words “sweat, tears, heart pounding, friendship, club activities”. Apparently, they are still in the midst of their youth!?

[Sweat]

When I was in high school I went to a beach in Odaiba and made it an acrobatics practice venue! Hikaru, Hasshi (Hashimoto Ryosuke), and Hara (Yoshitaka) were there too but we went to the nearby big arcade center or amusement establishment after sweating while practicing our back flips. Playing games or having soccer matches, and then washing away our sweat at a now-closed onsen facility. That was our usual course. This is one scene from my youth that I still think about sometimes. Of course, it was fun, but because we were all still Jrs that time I remember practicing while carrying lots of thoughts like “Will this hard work be rewarded?”.     

[Tears]

I hardly ever cry! Maybe it’s because I’m getting older that I’ve become more prone to crying, but the only time I cry is when I’m watching Crayon Shin-chan alone. I don’t cry in front of anyone because I think that I shouldn’t do that. Shota also said the same thing, but there’s a part of me that is obedient and does what I’m told! Johnny-san told me “Don’t cry in front of others”, and I also remember Takizawa (Hideaki)-kun saying the same thing. That’s why my youth doesn’t have tears in it.

[Heart Pounding]

A childhood friend, who is close to my family, got married and sent me pictures of their newly-born child. Whenever I see that my chest tightens because it’s just too cute. At the same time, I am also deeply moved and think “Ah-, we are also already at that age...” (laughs)

[Friendship]

I was in the gymnastics club during high school! Although I say gymnastics, I did dance and acrobatics so I practiced with everyone to prepare for the school festival. In my case, I can memorize the choreography just by seeing it so I was sitting idly. When a girl saw that, she got really mad at me and said “Why are you not dancing?”, and it even turned into a serious fight (laughs). There are a lot of people who are also active in the entertainment world, and we still sometimes meet at work even now. They are friends that have seen the natural me, so the bonds with everyone will probably last a lifetime.

[Club Activities]

I was in the gymnastics club when I was in high school, but I was in the basketball club in middle school! I chose the club because my parents also played basketball, but I was quite busy with work so I ended up being a ghost member (laughs).

Q1: I Got It là một ca khúc thể hiện tình yêu mãnh liệt, nhưng nếu bạn tỏ tình mà bị từ chối thì bạn có từ bỏ ngay lập tức không? Hay là có thể kiên trì bao nhiêu lần cũng được?

A1: Ừmmmmm.... Nếu thật sự rất thích người đó thì có lẽ tôi sẽ tiếp tục kiên trì.

Q2: Mối tình đầu của bạn là khi nào? Bạn còn nhớ chuyện lúc đó không?

A2: Chắc là lúc tôi còn học mẫu giáo. Về cơ bản thì hồi đó tôi là kiểu người sẽ yêu từ cái nhìn đầu tiên (cười). Tôi thích những người luôn nỗ lực hết mình, vậy nên tôi nghĩ mối tình đầu của mình cũng là người như thế đó.

Q3: Giấc mơ hồi nhỏ của bạn là gì?

A3: Hồi mẫu giáo, trong cột câu hỏi "Lớn lên em muốn làm gì?" tôi đã viết "Tackey" vào đó. Mẹ tôi thích Takizawa Hideaki-san nên từ nhỏ tôi đã được xem rất nhiều. Một phần do ảnh hưởng đó mà từ lúc bắt đầu nhớ được thì tôi đã nghĩ như vậy rồi.

Q4: Bạn nghĩ thế nào là một chàng trai tuyệt vời?

A4: Là chủ tịch của chúng tôi đó. Nam tính, hài hước, có năng lực và là người rất đáng tin cậy. Bất cứ khi nào nhìn thấy anh ấy, tôi luôn nghĩ anh ấy là một người đàn ông tuyệt vời. Có những việc mà đến bản thân tôi còn không chắc nó có đáng dành thời gian để lắng nghe hay không, và thậm chí cả những điều mà nếu là người khác thì có thể sẽ bỏ qua luôn, nhưng chủ tịch luôn cẩn thận lắng nghe và ghi nhớ từng thứ một. Anh ấy thực sự là một người tuyệt vời, và tôi nghĩ là không có nhiều người như vậy đâu.

Q5: Bí quyết làm đẹp của bạn là gì?

A5: Sữa rửa mặt có thể làm sạch đúng cách mà không cần rửa quá nhiều. Tôi sẽ dùng nó và cẩn thận gột rửa hết bụi bặm sau 1 ngày. Tôi còn nghe nói rửa sạch lại rất quan trọng nên tôi rửa lại khoảng hơn 20 lần. Tôi cũng đếm cả số lần nữa đó (cười).

Q6: Bạn sẽ thưởng gì cho bản thân sau khi nỗ lực?

A6: Đi suối nước nóng với bạn bè ạ. Không phải lần nào tôi cũng đi xa, nhưng dành cả một ngày đi ăn những món ngon và thư thả ngâm mình trong suối nước nóng sẽ là một phần thưởng khi tôi có thời gian.

Q7: Gần đây bạn có sở thích gì?

A7: Thử thách những điều mới mẻ. Tôi sẽ thử mua những món mới ở cửa hàng tiện lợi, hoặc gần đây hay đi uống cà phê thì tôi sẽ cố thử nhiều thứ đa dạng thay vì cứ theo một thực đơn cố định.

Q8: Món ăn sở trường của bạn là gì?

A8: Không có ạ! Tôi chắc chỉ nấu được cỡ cơm trứng chiên thôi. Bí quyết là trước tiên nghiêng bát đựng trứng và khuấy đều lòng trắng mà không làm vỡ lòng đỏ. Khi bắt đầu nổi bọt đến một mức nhất định thì trộn với lòng đỏ rồi ăn kèm nước tương chuyên dùng cho cơm trứng chiên. Thỉnh thoảng tôi sẽ thêm chút dầu ô liu hoặc dầu mè để thay đổi khẩu vị.

Q9: Màn hình chờ điện thoại của bạn là gì?

A9: Màn hình hiển thị thời tiết dễ hiểu được cài đặt theo bản tiêu chuẩn. Khi có giông bão thì tia sét sẽ hiển thị trên màn hình, rất tiện.

Q10: Hoài bão của bạn năm 2024 là gì?

A10: Dù mới debut chưa bao lâu nhưng chúng tôi đã có rất nhiều trải nghiệm, cả nhóm đã trải qua tháng ngày bận rộn mà đầy thú vị. Tôi mong mình sẽ luôn được thử thách những điều mới mẻ trong năm 2024. Tôi sẽ không mong cầu sự bình ổn mà tiếp tục đón nhận những thách thức mới, giữ nguyên tâm thế đó đối với công việc để gặp được thật nhiều điều thú vị.

Q11: Bạn mơ ước gì cho 10 năm sau?

A11: Tôi muốn thử thách với diễn xuất nữa. Cho tới nay, những vai diễn tôi đã từng thể hiện trong các bộ phim và kịch tuy đôi lúc thật khó khăn, nhưng đồng thời đó cũng là những kinh nghiệm thú vị. Đó là trải nghiệm khiến tôi nghĩ rằng nếu vượt qua được, tôi sẽ trưởng thành hơn và có thể gặp được phiên bản mới của mình. Tôi muốn trở thành một người có thể hoạt động tích cực cả trong lĩnh vực điện ảnh, vì cả nhóm và cũng vì bản thân tôi.

With the annual play “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022” being on stage starting in April, we asked Snow Man about the fighting spirit they don’t usually get to show.

Raul

My fighting power: 2 stars

In the first place, I think I don’t have that much fighting spirit and thoughts of “I want to win”. There is no right way to perform in this kind of work, and there is no 1st or 2nd place. I think it would be nice if we could stay true to ourselves.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

At any rate, “Takizawa Kabuki” is a challenge of stamina. That’s why I want to win this mental and physical fight. One of my problems is that I become cold and blunt to other people once my mental state weakens and I lose my composure. Everyone is really working hard so I would be happy if you could warmly look after us and send us cheers of encouragement.

My fighting power: 5 stars

Not just 5 stars, but probably about 7 stars. I do think that it would be over for me if I lose my fighting spirit. I also aim to pause and think, and not get too heated up during things like discussions.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

I thought “this season has come again”. Takizawa Kabuki is an important place for us so we intend to face the challenge of presenting something new while firmly keeping the core of the work. Like how the senpais before us did, I want to make a performance that will make even the kouhais we’re sharing the stage with feel something while watching us.

My fighting power: 5 stars

My individual fighting ability isn’t much, but I reach the maximum because SnowMan compensates for my lack of it. With these 9 members, it feels like we can show our fans a new landscape.

Last year, I was very frustrated that some performances were canceled because of the corona pandemic. I’m praying that we can finish all the performances this time without incident. And also, with the chivalrous spirit that all performers who take on the challenge of Takizawa Kabuki possess, I will give my best to provide energy to everyone in the world.

My fighting power: 4.5 stars

I hate losing. Red, my member color, might be imbued with fighting spirit. But lately, I’ve started to think that it depends on what you perceive as winning or losing. I try to see the good side.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

I like the world of “Takizawa Kabuki”, and I spent a long time learning in that place. We treasure the fact that we are inheriting Takizawa Kabuki from Takizawa (Hideaki)-kun in its ZERO form, and I will do my best so that feeling is conveyed to the audience. I am also most excited because I would probably learn something new this time too!

My fighting power: 5 stars

My fighting spirit, the part that does a lot of things I want to do through willpower and stubbornness, is strong. I don’t want to use “I have no time” as an excuse so I finish what I want to do even if I have to cut down my time for sleep.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

Like last year, my birthday this year also falls on the day after the last performance for Takizawa Kabuki. That’s why I plan to work as hard as I can to enjoy my last stage as a 28-year old. It’s a totally different performance from the movie “Osomatsu-san”, so I want people to watch the movie in theaters and enjoy the gap between the two.

My fighting power: 23 stars

It’s because I want to enjoy everything. My fighting spirit comes from my ability to have fun. I want to keep improving my ability to enjoy and, in turn, make others enjoy too. 23 is a number that came to my mind through inspiration.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

I think there are more people who think “Takizawa Kabuki? Is that SnowMan’s?”, and on the other hand, there are people who came to know SnowMan through Takizawa Kabuki and are anticipating the next stage play. I will give my best effort so that everyone from both groups can feel immersed in the worldview of the story.

My fighting power: 1.5 stars

During today’s shoot, I realized that I don’t have much fighting spirit (laughs). I think I might have 3 or 4 stars before but I changed as the years passed. I am basically a pacifist, so I might not really like categorizing things into winning or losing.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

I want to show my growth and dignity as someone who has been doing Takizawa Kabuki since his Jr. days and has now inherited the show. It has been 3years since we debuted. I have to make them think “they look magnificent on stage”. And, even though we are in times like this, I want everyone who bought tickets to safely enjoy the show until the end.

It’s because I am never satisfied with the current state of things, and I’m always thinking of wanting to try something new. Even without putting my feelings into words, the fighting spirit I kept to myself is enough. I think I am greedy regarding work.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

I have my fighting spirit born from the fact that we are inheriting a traditional stage, and it has always been my intention to work my hardest. I like the henmen performance (t/n: face/ mask change, a performance from classical Chinese theater) so I’d like to do that again if possible. I can do whatever facial expression I want inside the mask. I really like that I can go on stage without my face being seen! (laughs).

My fighting power: 5 stars

My fighting style isn’t the power type, but the type that has a good feel for when to retreat and when to attack. Like someone who hasn’t done anything but somehow wins. Actually, things just naturally go well.

I would do my best in this part in “Takizawa Kabuki ZERO 2022”!

We’re being allowed to be the main again this year so I will put all my strength to do the performance. It’s just that doing fukkin taiko is already getting tough that’s why I’ve thought of doing things like trying to ask Takizawa-kun to not include me in that segment (laughs). Please look forward to the gap between SnowMan’s live stages and this performance!

I can't believe we're on this day & age where we're comparing Majo No Jouken and Chugakusei Nikki. Guys, please, it's like you're comparing Hunger Games to Battle Royale. Chugakusei Nikki is a good drama, and Okada Kenshi did great on it considering he's a newbie here. But yeah, Majo No Jouken will still and always be my all time fave JDrama. Thank you. 😂 It's only about preferences, both are great dramas.
