My nerdy-and-possibly-coming-down-with-a-cold ass: Aaalright, I've finally gotten around to rewatching "Kamen Rider: Build", for the second time...and hopefully, this time around, I can actually finish it. I was planning on rewatching "Fourze" and "Ex-Aid", next, however....
🦇🎻🥀 Kiva 🎻🦇: Oi, oi! Why not check out me, next, eh 💗? We have Otoya Kurenai 🎶!
😈🔴🔵⚫🟡 Den-O 🟡⚫🔵🔴😈: Uh, no way! You should check us out, next, Emjei. We're way funnier! And chaotic! Save that time-traveling, romance clown for last. Besides, they're full of vampires! You said you were over that phase!
🦇🎻🥀 Kiva 🥀🎻🦇: 'Clown'?! You're the one who will just confuse her with all of your...everything! Emjei-chan, you like our aesthetics, right? And you'll adore our cast! We just know it! Ooh! And, we have a dog! You love dogs!
😈🔴🔵⚫🟡 Den-O 🟡⚫🔵🔴😈: Puh-leeze. She'll like our cast, even more! We'll make her laugh harder, too! And, we have a train in the sky! A train in the sky!
🍊🗡️🍋🟩 Gaim 🍋🟩🗡️🍊: Oi, oi! She told us that we were next on the list! Our leading actor was in her favorite street-fighting series!
Me: I distinctly remember there being a "could" in there, somewhere, in that sentence....
♦️♣️♥️♠️ Blade ♠️♥️♣️♦️: Hah?! She told us that we were next! Where have you been?!
🚀🐇🎮 Fourze, Build, Ex-Aid 🎮🐇🚀: *can only watch on in confusion and disbelief* ....Are we just...like...rotten milk, or something?
Me: *forces her way past the other Kamen Rider shows on her list* Don't worry, boys. You guys are still my top 3-!
🦇🎻🥀 Kiva 🥀🎻🦇: *pulls her back* Emjei-chan, you'll watch us, next, after Build, right? We'll take care of you! Chu~ ♡! Much better than those boys in that DOUBT gang in "HiGH & LOW", trust us!
Hirai: Oi!!
Takano: Why are we being dragged into this....?
Ranmaru: *rolls eyes, not caring in the slightest*
😈🔴🔵⚫🟡 Den-O 🟡⚫🔵🔴😈: *clearly offended* Oh, you're gonna start kissing up to her, now, eh?? Kiva!!
Worried Me whilst being pulled and fought over: I've fallen right into a wonderland of trouble...haven't I....? Oi, Kiva! Enough with the kisses! Geez!
🚀🪐🌌 Fourze 🌌🪐🚀: *to Build and Ex-Aid, in concern* Uh...should we help her?....
🩷🎮💚 Ex-Aid 💚🎮🩷: No, thank you!
🐇🤖🐲🖤 Build 🖤🐲🤖🐇: ....No, let her suffer. She brought this onto herself. *Ex-Aid nods in agreement*
Me: Fantastic. There's help...and then, there's you lot! 💢
(To the Kamen Rider fandom, out there, please assist this still-KR-newbie on figuring out which to check out, next, after I eventually finish 'Build' 🙏🏻)

Well, that was quite an ending to a beautiful game.
The stuff about sin and blame puts a very compelling twist on a mystery story. It raises question about what I'm even doing here, why I want to solve this thing. I think I understand why the audience is said to be full of demons now. We're looking for someone to blame.
In retrospect, I think the themes about gender and power dynamics and stuff didn't come together quite as much as I expected them to. I feel like I'm missing something. Like, I still don't get what all the loli jokes are supposed to be doing for the story. Maybe it's just kinda messy. Same goes for the stuff about nationalism I think.
Nor do I understand why it's named after Higurashi. Makes me feel like there's something I missed.
I love all these characters to bits. My favorites would have to be Mion and Takano, obviously. But nearly every single one has some kind of compelling depth. I think my least favorite character important enough to get a sprite is probably irie, and he's still compelling in his own way.
I love the way mental disorders are portrayed in this story. It's all very intimate and visceral in a way I didn't expect. The themes of isolation and connection are so well done. being part of a community and reaching out to people. It makes me feel like Ryukishi07 really understands.
final playtime for this main story is:
Onikakushi: 20.1 hrs
Watanagashi: 29.5
Tatarigoroshi: 39.4
Himatsubushi: 13.2
Meakashi: 35.8
Tsumihoroboshi: 45.6
Minagoroshi: 42.3
Matsuribayashi: 55.1
for a grand total of... 245.2 hours. Wow.
Apparently it's supposed to take around 100 hours, but I suppose that's not counting all the note taking and analysis posts. You can really tell I started slowing down and analyzing every little thing towards the end. I hope you guys weren't frustrated with how slow I was taking in. I could try to speed up for Umineko. I hear that one's a bit longer. Lord help me, I might be in for the long haul.
I think, if I'm gonna approach Umineko, I've gotta:
a.) be more willing to keep multiple hypotheses in mind at once. there were definitely times where I missed things by focusing on the one hypothesis I thought was mostly likely and ignored the others.
b.) take actual organized notes rather than relying on this blog to track everything. It definitely led to a problem where I totally forgot about stuff that I initally hadn't thought was important because I didn't think to screencap it the first time through.
c.) remember we're working with mystery story logic. Early on in the question arcs, I didn't really bother to come up with theories for what's happening overall, just because I figured there could be any number of factors happening off screen. but it turns out pretty much all the relevant info to solve each chapter exists within that chapter. So I'll try to be more thorough about making hypotheses as I go. If only so you guys can laugh about how wrong I am as I flail around.
d.) make a point to keep track of all the mythology and old stories and strange rumors that get thrown around. they all seemed so important. There's definitely more I could tell you about Hanyuu right this moment if I'd been paying better attention.
Overall though, what a wild ride. Highs, lows, tragedy, comedy. friendship, paranoia. I'm curious to see what Saikoroshi does that makes it such a good follow up to this.

Fledgling
Fandom: Sakamoto Days
Rating: General
Relationships: Heisuke & Piisuke
Words: 846
This is fic 3/20. Just as a reminder, I'm doing 20 prompts as quickly as I can (I'm shooting for 20 in 20 business days) as an exercise to stop myself from freezing up due to overthinking. This means the fics will be largely unedited so please forgive my typos.
So, yeah, Piisuke doesn't actually look like any real bird I can find (though I'm by no means a bird expert) , but I am continuing to assume he's sorta-kinda meant to be a cockatiel... I watched a lot of videos of baby cockatiels for this even though I wasn't supposed to be doing research. Would recommend a video usually called "Baby parrot 41 days development" which I can't find the source of, unfortunately. Currently voting on prompt set #5
"I won't let anyone hurt you, you're safe with me."
“I didn’t know the JCC had legacy admissions.”
“What’d you mean, Takano-Sensei?” Heisuke asked, not sure what his advisor was getting at.
“Your father is Mashimo Katsuo and your mother’s maiden name was Sawada Kaede, correct?”
“Oh, yes, those are my parents.”
“Well, with your grades and your admission scores, I’m guessing your parents put in a good word. You should work a little harder, otherwise you’ll make them look bad.”
“Oh,” he said, deflating a little.
It wasn’t the first time Heisuke had heard something like that, but he never let it bother him. He hadn’t gotten into the JCC using his parents’ names. He’d studied and taken the entrance exam like everyone else. And sure, his score was just above the minimum and he was one of the lowest ranked admittees and apparently the year he applied there had been a historically low number of applicants and his parents hadn’t been impressed but he’d still made it in. And he’d even made it through his first semester without dying or failing out.
“I— I did well in my marksmanship class.”
“You can’t make it as a hit man with just marksmanship.” Takano was looking over information from his first semester. “If you don’t want to sully your family name, you should consider trying a little harder.”
“Yes, Sensei,” Heisuke responded, looking away and hoping this meeting would end soon.
-
One of Heisuke’s favorite things to do was use his sniper scope to do bird watching. He’d been told that was strange behavior, but it wasn’t like he owned binoculars.
Lately, he’d been fascinated by a pair of birds that were living not far from Heisuke’s dorm. They laid a couple of eggs not long ago and three of them had hatched. Heisuke liked to watch the chicks as the quickly grew from ugly alien-looking things to something resembling a bird.
When he found the nest today, though, something was wrong. It seemed like everything was normal, but Heisuke saw there were only two chicks in the nest. Had the other one died? All three had looked healthy, so that was a surprise.
After a but of searching, Heisuke realized that the third chick was no longer in the nest. It was, instead, on the ground below the tree. It was moving, so it seemed to be alive, but the parent birds didn’t seem too concerned they were missing one of their babies.
“I’ll be back,” Heisuke said to his roommate, Takahashi, before rushing out of the room and in the direction of the nest.
-
Luckily, the baby still seemed fine when he arrived and, carefully, he scooped it up. It was about two weeks old, only having opened its eyes for the first time within the last day or two. The most surprising thing, though, was how loud it was.
“Hey, buddy, it’s fine,” he said to the bird. “I’ll get you back in your nest with your family.”
Luckily the nest wasn’t too high up and Heisuke was able to slip the bird back in. He smiled and was about to leave when the nest got noisy. He turned back just in time to see the baby bird being chased from the nest and, without thinking, Heisuke jumped and caught the bird. He fell, landing hard as he did his best to keep the bird from being hurt.
“You good?” He asked and the baby just squawked at him sadly. Heisuke looked up at the nest and then back down at the bird. “Your parents don’t like you, either?”
The baby turned its head, looking at Heisuke like it understood.
“Well, why don’t you come back with me?” He chirped in response and Heisuke laughed. “Okay. Guess you need a name, huh? Well, you say pīpī…How about Pipi?”
The bird chirped again and Heisuke smiled widely. Things weren’t always easy, but Heisuke knew he’d make it through alright.
-
His roommate had sighed deeply when Heisuke returned with the baby bird, but his only complaint had been that Pipi was a bad name. Takahashi didn’t even complain when the baby wouldn't stop screaming for food. It took Heisuke a little bit to figure out how to feed him, but once he did, the room quieted down until the bird was hungry again.
“He’s hungry all the time, just like you,” Takahashi commented. “Maybe I’ll start calling him Heisuke.”
“Oh, that’s a good idea,” Heisuke responded. “But won’t that be confusing?”
Takahashi sighed again, but Heisuke could see he was smiling slightly.
“I have a better idea.”
“Yeah?”
“How about Piisuke?”
-
It was late at night a few days after Heisuke found Piisuke and Heisuke couldn’t help but lay awake and watch the small bird. He was a good bird and already very smart. He really liked Piisuke already.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you,” he whispered, carefully rubbing his thumb over the top of Piisuke’s head. “You’re safe with me.”
Heisuke couldn’t figure out why in the world Piisuke’s parents didn’t want him, but he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to his new friend.

Higurashi When They Cry Hou Ch. 8 Matsuribayashi pt. 71
One of the most irritating things in the world for me are the times when you find yourself rushing to do something, you do it, but then you have to wait for something else to happen so things can actually happen. It happens infrequently in life, but I hate the moments where you find yourself basically sprinting to do things only for time to drag itself along a bit later. The waiting is interminable, and it makes time feel like it’s taking longer than it probably is.
Having had some time to think about it, it looks like her symptoms got a lot worse around the time Tomitake “disappeared.” But I think that she had probably caught the infection around the time Nomura made her introductions to Takano. There were some times Takano was revealed to not be quite as in control as the visual novel would lead you to believe, but she never outright lashed out until after she met Nomura, except for the one time with Rika's mom. I suppose maybe she was showing symptoms around the time of Koizumi’s death, but that seems like an awfully long time for her to not realize she herself had caught Hinamizawa Syndrome. The only other time period that makes sense for Takano to have caught it is around the time of the meeting with the directors to try to save the Institute.
Of the times listed, I think that her symptoms started with the death of Koizumi, and quickly worsened due to the other two events. It’s sort of like how Rena’s symptoms exploded with her parents divorce. I can only assume that her symptoms are only slightly less bad compared to small child Rena’s because Takano has a more mature developed brain.
I might have simply missed it earlier, but I do wonder what exactly Nomura and her secret cabal of evil stand to gain from Takano executing Emergency Manual 34? She wouldn’t be telling Takano “do it pussy no balls” if she didn’t stand to gain something from the deaths of two thousand plus villagers and a Tomitake. Also, not to nitpick the fiction here, what really would be stopping Takano from just lying and saying they had Rika? That the rumors of her being dead these past two days was just a load of bunk? It’s the eighties, so they don’t have to worry about the plot convoluter of using a cell-phone camera to verify she’s alive. I guess this is meant to show Takano’s rapidly declining mental state.
Say what you will about her becoming dangerously paranoid, Takano is remarkably on the ball some times. Figured out it was Irie who’s selling her down the river in a snap.
Apropos of nothing, do you think the people of Okinomiya get pretty psyched up about the Watanagashi festival in Hinamizawa? Since they’re neighbors they have to be right? I doubt that all of the vendors and food stalls are all natives to Hinamizawa. Do you think since it’s Watanagashi no one in Okinomiya looks at the sudden fleet of white vans and thinks that’s crazy suspicious? Also, how many Mountain Dogs do you think there are? I don’t think they’ve ever established a number, but it has to be a relatively low number right? Earlier in the chapter I made the joke there’s probably fifty Mountain Dogs, but that sounds a bit too high. If I had to guess, I’d say there’s probably twenty guys in their unit. Looking at the manga version of Matsuribayashi and Minagoroshi it looks like there’s around fifteen collectively, about eight of them were present when they killed Ooishi and Kumagai (six, plus two snipers), and maybe six when they fought the gaming club before the end.
Not that numerical accuracy is going to matter a whole lot in the upcoming sections. This was all sort of spurred on by my random thought of “how many vans do they have?” But I think it’s time to move on.
I’m imagining the accountant from Tokyo reading Tomitake’s expense report from this particular trip to Hinamizawa. “Lieutenant, why did you need to check in to ten different hotels in a week?” Then Tomitake gets arrested/fined for money laundering by way of checking in to multiple hotels.
This has nothing to do with Higurashi, but I once watched some police officers take turns kicking at a door in a hotel for near five minutes before it occurred to them to get a key from the front desk. Just four relatively fit and muscular-ish cops just absolutely failing to kick in a door that wasn’t even deadbolted. Considering what I heard about one of the officers later on I’m surprised they didn’t consider trying to shoot their way in.
I for one greatly appreciate the comedic timing of Tomitake trying to be a bad ass action man only to immediately fail and get captured. I also like how Takano doesn’t seems particularly surprised by this turn of events that he got captured, only surprised he got captured so quickly.
It tries so hard to make Tomitake look like a bad ass cool guy this particular entry in the series, but it just really fails. I’d say he’s a Gary Stu, if he wasn’t just so unbelievably uncool and a massive massive dork.
Thinking about the complete and utter failure of Tomitake, now it’s Dr. Kyousuke Irie’s time to shine!

It’s about the fic High&Low The Return (2024), so I remember asking the question on this poll (https://www.tumblr.com/asianpoplover143/760386655717900288/well-lets-say-that-it-is-the-end-however-i-do), if you all wanted me to share whatever I had on my drafts about the fic right? So the result was: “Only the sinopse”. So here it is the daft of it, feel free to give your thoughts and opinions about it.
Please be honest, I wont be upset or angry, quite the opposite I will be happy with the honesty :)
Please enjoy the daft of what I have done so far with the sinopse:
Sinopse draft:
Now with all of SWORD gangs being at peace with one another, being friends and getting along (including Kuryu Group/Mighty Warriors/Prison Gang/Doubt, Mugen, Amamiya Brothers) and also all of the High Schools (3 School Alliance: Senomon High, Kamasaka High and Ebara High; Oya High, Housen Academy, and Suzuran High) being friends and getting along as well, that’s thanks due in a certain part to Suzaki Ryo that made his (boy)friend Amagai Kohei go back to his old self, be that boy with a kind heart and etc. and also to Kohei’s younger brother that is best friends with the 2nd year students from those High Schools (specially Suzuran boys) because they have a lot in common for example they finish their fights without a single scratch or drop of their own blood, and also they still have enough energy to fight more and even to go to a war, plus they always win their fights.
And speaking of Senomon High, Ranamru is the new principal and Hirai and Takano are always there helping him with the students, when they are at Senomon the 3 of them act like parents to the students, they act totally different from the way they act with Doubt. With the students they are more heartwarming and caring, but also a funny fact about Ranmaru is that he is not a normal principal, he as soon as he is done using the speaker he always says “Hirai, how do I turn this off?”, and this is every time, and Hirai helps him. Ranmaru’s favorite students are the 2nd year students because they are mini copies of him, however the 2nd year students are the strongest ones in Senomon and the best fighters and the only ones that don’t need weapons to fight, in fact they are even able to take the weapon out of their opponent’s hands with ease. Which is why Kouei (Kohei’s younger brother) is a 2nd year student and one of the heads/leaders of both 2nd and 1st year students, and lets say kinda helps his older brother leading the 3rd year students alongside him, and not just that also the Mighty Warriors baby, and the chosen one to be the head of their family (Amagai Family) alongside Ryu the head of the Kuryu Group.
And speaking of Kuryu Group, guess who is back? If you said: “famous idols/actors that had abandoned their careers to live (or try) a normal live”. Why on earth were you even thinking of/about it? (In case you really were). The correct answer is: If you said “Kidra”, then you are absolutely correct. Yes, Kidra is back, and so is Chanson Group plus the RedDrum drug and guess what? Kidra is doing the RedDrum drug again and they are doing what they were doing in High&Low The Worst, but this time they are selling to all of the High Schools (even the ones that they sold before, like Oya High and Housen), and now 3 School Alliance involved and Suzuran. And for that and reason (and many others) Chanson Group that is the true enemy.
Oh and it doesn’t stop there! A new gang is rising back from the ashes…They are the Black Rascals, they are basically the emo version of the White Rascals, their leader? The vicious and handsome Yami, which believe it or not is Suzuran’s principal and Rocky’s the White Rascals leader, best friend since they were in kindergarten and still they remain ever since. And is one of the many reasons why the Black Rascals help the White Rascals whenever they need.

Higurashi: Festival Accompanying Chapter 7
The chapter opens with Hanyu speaking to us. With Irie Clinic established, destiny is set in motion. But Hanyu asks that we continue to hope for a miracle.
At first, I thought she just appeared to remind us what this arc is about. The end goal is not simply to know what has truly been happening, but to overcome the destiny placed on Rika and her friends.
But after what happens in this chapter, I think Hanyu is also trying to assure the reader. Starting now, we're going to learn the truth behind the series of murders. Hanyu no longer has the power to rewind time to before they happened so there is no way to prevent the tragedies that are going to happen. But we need to keep our eyes on the goal: June 1983.
I bet this is also the first moment she actually had the power to speak to us since Rika hadn't been born yet.
Now we're switching perspectives to Irie. The first half of this arc revolves around us learning the truth behind everything leading up to June 1983. So now we're going to learn how Irie ties into everything.
One key detail about the perspective flip is we are no longer privy to Takano's thoughts. We know her motivations up to this point, but as we'll see in the end of this chapter, she's become willing to do anything to prove her grandfather's theories true. At this point, she is not going to give us an objective look at what happens.
"Certain circumstances had led to my expulsion for the world of academics." The last time someone said "Things happened" we found out that they had shot a kid in the eye.
I don't like Irie's motivation for this research. He thinks that proving there is a parasite that can control human brains could prove that religion, ideology, and philosophy could be the work of parasites.
He seems to have a low opinion of humans. Like, if we weren't being brain-controlled we'd just be going around gathering berries and killing deer and not having a thought greater than wandering when our next meal.
His idea really seems to disregard a fundamental aspect of human culture: Getting high on weed, shrooms, and toxic fumes which cause people to enter a fugue state from which religion, ideology, and philosophy originate.
Oh hey. Akasaka came to Hinamizawa in 1978. He also got into that fight with Okonogi. So now I'm just going to wait to learn what is different about this timeline that ensures Yukie survives.
I imagine that somewhere in the research floor of the clinic, Okonogi is in a different bed and is similarly bandaged up and he is seething that the guy who beat him up is right above him.
And this chapter ends with one of the biggest reveals of them all. We finally have the solution to the very first question from this series. We finally know what happened to the ringleader of the 1979 murder. He was captured by the Wild Dogs and spirited away to the research lab for experimentation.
Takano says she's perfectly sane but it's so obvious she fell off the deep end a while ago. She is completely unbothered as she talks about how this man killed and chopped a body to pieces and was carrying the victim's right arm when he was found. And she suggests dissecting the man with a smile on her face.
If there's a particular point she fell off the deep end, it was probably during those months where the research got deadlocked due to them not managing to find the actual pathogen behind Hinamizawa Syndrome.
When she said she had an idea and requested some time to implement it, it sounded like she knew something like the foreman's murder would happen. We only see the aftermath of the murder, not the leadup or the murder itself. I wouldn't be surprised if Takano purposely targeted the ringleader to induce late-stage Hinamizawa Syndrome in him for this purpose.
And if that's true, maybe she was planning the same for Keiichi and Rena in the arcs they went insane to maybe get some last second data before she was forced to destroy everything.
Takano is really taking liberties with her grandfather's research methods. She brings up how scientific endeavors required disregard for ethics and she says Dr Takano did the same thing. But all we know about his research methods is he formed his initial hypothesis from his experience as a military doctor. There's no proof that he did anything one might consider unethical.
It really seems like Takano's perspective of who her grandfather was is getting more warped as time goes on.
Also, Irie has no reason to care about carrying on Hifumi Takano's legacy. This isn't about proving someone right. And Irie is absolutely correct in assessing the situation. Takano has completely lost the point. She doesn't truly care about uncovering the truth about Hinamizawa Syndrome. She just wants to prove her grandfather right.
But when Irie attempts to leave, Takano brings up his past actions to force him to stay. Turns out Irie was in the field of psychosurgery, a controversial field focused around performing brain surgeries to restructure the brain to treat mental disorders, brain damage, and other similar things.
Takano is essentially pointing out that Irie has done plenty of unethical things in the past so why should he preach about ethics now.
This kind of reminds me of Keiichi and Rena's exchange in Atonement chapter 10. In a similar vein to Takano, Rena rejected Keiichi's offer to help because of what he's done in the past. She basically said he doesn't deserve to be a better person and should always be the guy who shot a little girl in the eye.
And Takano is implying a similar thing to Irie. He will always be the person who cut into many peoples' brains for his research and was kicked out of academia for it. So he doesn't have the right to repent or seek forgiveness.

Ok so because I'm an astrology bitch I looked up Takano and Ritsu's astrological compatibility (Takano is Dec. 25, Capricorn; Ritsu is March 27, Aries)
And uhhh... Here's some fun stuff I found

For Sex:

Off to a fun start. Literally karmic enemies.

This is surprisingly accurate in light of the recent chapter (Takano teaching Ritsu how to blow him??) Kinda hot ngl even though their sexual compatibility is a whole 5% 🥴
For Communication:

Super accurate! Ritsu's struggle for the longest time was not being able to talk to Takano about anything besides work.

Sadly I do see this as accurate. Takano is super controlling about Ritsu's friends/health/work, and Ritsu had to openly tell Takano to stop doing things without his consent. Seems like Takano doesn't respect Ritsu's autonomy! 20% on communication. Smh.
For Trust:

This jumped out to me because of that first misunderstanding that lead to their break-up. Even though in reality, Takano has a hard time trusting Ritsu by himself and tries to control him, it's kinda nice to think that despite their fights and misunderstandings they really do trust each other. Their trust is 99%!
Overall:

Yikes! I'm sorry to say this is an L for Takaritsu 😔✌️ Thank god astrology isn't real
#sekaiichi hatsukoi#takano masamune#onodera ritsu#sekai ichi hatsukoi#funny how their physical compatibility is low and their trust is high when it's the complete opposite

So I finished Clover and it was actually really interesting. I think it does have my favorite CLAMP art ever, which I kinda hate to admit (xxxHolic my beloved) but the style and layout of the paneling is just phenomenal and I’ll never get over it.
It definitely still has... CLAMP’s problems (grumble) though I was kinda delighted that one of the characters called this out within the first few pages. Honestly this series really leaned into a lot of fucked up shit and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Like, does it matter if you’re being self-aware if you’re still being Like That? I’m not sure
I did like the set up of each story though, and the way that time skipped around. I also quite liked the characters - or rather most of them. Su is kind of amazing for her ability to both have not much personality at all, while still being undeniably compelling. I liked her connecting with Oruha and I liked that Oruha never learned that Su was a Clover, just a little extra bit of tragedy. Oruha my beloved, you’re the literal best (Su is second favorite character and then prolly Ran).
Ran was probably the least compelling part, though I do understand why it was a necessary edition to the story. It’s more like I never felt he had a proper emotional connection/understanding with anyone, though I do think the rapid aging thing is kinda interesting in terms of Lore. Someone take care of this child, someone take care of all these children. Anyways Ran has Miyo Takano vibes if he snaps and tries to wipeout a whole village I wouldn’t be surprised - I guess A would be more likely to do that though lol.
Also Part 3 felt more rushed than the rest, throwing that out there
Obviously the biggest drawback story-wise is that it’s unfinished, and I would actually read the ending of this if it were ever published, however I think that the way the story is it doesn’t suffer incredibly from the lack. I guess it’s more like a straight up tragedy this way, nihilistic in the way it doesn’t have a meaning, but that does fit the story in a way.
So overall I’m... kinda conflicted on the rating. It depends on how deep I’m in denial about the stuff I don’t like. I do think it is a genuinely interesting story, and I kinda hope that CLAMP tries a story like this again at some point. Sci-fi, who’d’ve thought?
I’d say that Part 1 is a solid 7/10 (liked the ending), Part 2 is an 8/10, and Part 3 hovers about 5.5/10 about same as CLAMP School Detectives could have been better could - lol - have been worse.
Anyways CLAMP do another minimalist art manga again I’m begging you
If you think this review is long and rambly yeah it is, I’m pretty conflicted on this. The highs were high and the lows were low and I’m in the middle like WOOTTTT

Higurashi When They Cry Hou Ch. 8 Matsuribayashi pt. 80
The pure unmitigated psychological warfare of Satoko Houjou.
Now for the next couple screenshots I need you to read them in a specific order.
For the next picture read until Satoko's line. Then skip to the next one, and continue until noted.
Sadly for Skylark 13 this will not be the last time he gets outfoxed by a child/teenager.

Poor poor Amakusa, gets soundly beaten by a child, and then fifteen years later gets outsmarted by another child who is about half of his age. For no good reason I am declaring that Amakusa and Okonogi in Umineko are the same characters as Skylark 13 and Okonogi here in Higurashi. Anyway, go back to the screenshot with Satoko’s line and read the rest now.
It doesn’t say, but could you imagine if Rena was just hacking away at the Mountain Dogs with her little axe dealie? She’s only ever been shown with that one weapon, aside from the time she beat Rina Mamiya to death with a steel pipe. Guess that would give the Mountain Dogs pause if Keiichi is bashing them with a bat and Rena is just chopping into them with nary a backwards glance.
Guess I should’ve kept my mouth shut about Mion’s seeming lack of character from earlier. I was unaware of her keen tactical mind.
I want to thank you all for reading my playthrough of Higurashi: When They Cry Chapter 8 Matsuribayashi.
What a note to end on! Good night everybody!
WHAT.
“If Mion were to join Hitler, Europe would belong to the Third Reich!!” It’s been a while since a line felt like it was just a punch to the chest, but this one is certainly up there in sentences that caught me off guard!
“If Mion were to join Hitler, Europe would belong to the Third Reich!!” This is almost as perplexing as the line in the original Mobile Suit Gundam where Gihren Zabi declares himself to be a Hitler follower before heading off to the final battleground of the series. If you had asked me back at the start of the series if I thought there would be TWO Hitler references in the final chapter, I wouldn’t have thought it was going to happen! Why would it?!
IT DOESN’T EVEN HAVE ANY LEAD UP! IT’S JUST THERE!
Despite this sudden inexplicable turn for her character I’m still not particularly endeared to her character. I feel pretty comfortable in saying of the seven main characters she ranks pretty low on the scale of characters I like. The rankings will be posted in Part Final.
You know, for a group who is on the cusp of committing super murders the Mountain Dogs are a rather lax bunch aren’t they? They didn’t replace a broken security camera in their secret facility, they just left a ground floor window wide open. You’d think that since they’re on high alert given the escape of Irie, and being under special orders to guard Tomitake they’d be just a bit more on the ball.
Also, Irie, why are you acting like you’re just now uncovering the deep dark secret of the clinic YOU WORK AT? You already know what the real purpose of the Irie Institute is you unbelievable boob! Although it is kind of funny that he is aware and knows they have a procedure in place to destroy the evidence of their research. It kind of makes you wonder why he was so surprised when Takano mentioned doing any of their nefarious deeds. A holdover from when he was being written as a pure villain perhaps?
