Blog #5: Repetitive Advertisement + a YouTube Video

Yo, it’s me. Today, I’ll be discuss the repetition of Frosted Flakes advertising. The reason why I’m writing about it now is because on New Year’s Day of 2023, I watching a marathon of “The Amazing World of Gumball” on Cartoon Network. Now usually, Frosted Flakes would do its thing about once per commercial break, like it has been for the past 3-4 years. That day, one of the breaks aired the commercials not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! I mean, what the fuck?! Sure, I’ve seen Chuck E. Cheese’s or McDonald’s advertised twice per break, but never more than that, which means that Tony’s just hogging most - if not, all - of the time in between program blocks. That was probably the most I’ve ever seen Cartoon Network sponsor Frosted Flakes since the series finale of “Steven Universe: Future” back in 2020, basically when the Covid-19 pandemic began. Seriously, like people had nothing better to do in quarantine than that?! People couldn’t be bothered leaving their house to get the cereal because the world was on lockdown. Like, what is Tony trying to do, trick people into getting sick with the virus?! I don’t think so!

Yes, I remember that night, the day I was sobbing as I saw the final moments in “Steven Universe: Future” (the constant Frosted Flakes didn’t really help me feel better either). And I swear, Tony couldn’t go the first thirty seconds without breaking the forth wall, could he?!

Speaking of, I saw this cool video about Frosted Flakes being advertised constantly during the Steven Universe: Future finale. Here’s the link:

Yeah Steven, quite frankly, I don’t blame you. Also, what I found funny about this video was that at the end, Tony states how lonely he is and begins to cry. Good, he fucking deserves it! But to be honest, if I was to see Tony in real life, I wouldn’t just reject his cereal; I would punch him in the face, then make a run for it. So ha ha! In your face, Tony! Not even Steven likes you!

Karl is dressed as Tony the Tiger, Cuz, let's be honest I can totally see him waking up to eat Frosted Flakes straight from the box- Or the Wolf From Cookie Crisps- let's be honest this man already smell like wet dog he's Already halfway there

Donna- I could totally see her dressed as the big sun from Raisin Bran Or the ghost of Boo Berry, or she may not even dress up at all

Angie- she there is no way she is not dressed as either the Trix rabbit Or a Cinnamon Toast Crunch square- only because those commercials are Crazy as all hell okay-

Other Stuff Featuring Markiplier: Masterlist Followup

I will admit, this list is being made out of some degree of annoyance. There is a reason I didn't include the following videos/characters in my Markiplier Characters: Ultimate Video Masterlist. The videos/characters on that list had to follow this criteria:

The character featured has to be made by Mark (as in the case of Wilford Warfstache or Jim)

If the character is not made by Mark, Mark needs to have featured the character at least once in his own skits (as in the case of Ed Edgar or the Host, both of whom were created by Cyndago)

But so many of you guys were asking for other skits featuring Mark that did not follow the above criteria... So, here's a whole separate list of video skits that do not follow the above criteria. If Mark has any of these characters feature in any of his own future skits, then I will add them to the masterlist. This list does have its own criteria, that being:

Whatever character Mark is playing has to be obviously separate from his identity as a YouTuber - For instance, the Mark from Resident Enis would be on this list, but the Mark from How To Beat A Monkey At Chess or Popcorn would not - The reason for this is because otherwise this list would be waaaayyyy longer than I'm willing to put time into

Digiday dropping bombs

Great piece by Shareen Pathak today. Brutally honest — not to mention a pretty explosive indictment of the ad industry’s ugly sides.

Advertising is unique in that it is a business that very few aspire to entering. The creatives in agencies are stereotyped as truly wanting to be direct movies or write the next great American novel. Instead, they’re trying to get people to buy Frosted Flakes over Cheerios. The great gauze of “creativity” serves to fog over the crass commercial nature of this work. And it also serves as a fog over who is truly good at doing what exactly.

Blog #4: Auditory Angst

Hey, so sorry I didn’t blog in about almost a week or two. So to make up for that, here’s a blog about this one song (that I don’t want my sister to hear, let alone know about) called “Bring Out The Tiger” - yeah, the song that was used in the current Frosted Flakes commercials. Let me tell you about my reaction back in 2020 when I first heard it: the moment I heard the first lyric, I was like “nope this song’s the absolute worst”, probably because for one, it’s used in a Frosted Flakes commercial and second, it just…it just sucks. You know, as if a large, personified tiger with a deep, demonic voice who’s always saying as asinine slogan wasn’t bad enough, now we have to deal with a song that goes with it! Like damn, Kellogg’s! What were you thinking?! The song’s literally TORTURE! How could this get any worse from here?

I know this is one of those songs that’s supposed to “pump” you up and give you that feel-good confidence, but to me, it’s more like a sufferable equivalent to nails on a chalkboard. To be honest, it sounds like it could be the Soviet Union’s new national anthem or something; it’s a communist anthem! So the hell with “Bring Out the Tiger”, and it better not be available on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, or any other streaming service. So there! You can’t change my mind.

I also won’t bother adding the link to the song because I don’t want people getting brainwashed by that annoying song!
