INTRODUCTION

Hi, it's time for a new, long-overdue introduction!

I'm KEK-W, a UK-based writer of comics, films, TV and fiction.

My recent comic-book work includes JUDGE DREDD, ROGUE TROOPER and TYRANNY REX for 2000AD, as well as the Historical Science Fantasy series THE ORDER, and the acclaimed DARK JUDGES: FALL OF DEADWORLD Dark Horror series featuring JUDGE DEATH. I've written for AHOY Comics, Image Comics, Commando, Misty & Scream, Battle, Storyworlds, etc, etc in a variety of genres and style.

Meanwhiles, here's a coupla cool recent prose books by me.

Working on it helped me realize that historical horror is absolutely My Thing. The reception has been amazing (thank you so much, horror community!) and I adore the cover art from Kealan Patrick Burke entirely too much.

Synopsis:

For someone who doesn’t have and doesn’t want children, I sure do read a lot of intense parenting horror stories 😂.

After happening upon a children’s birthday party they weren’t invited to, Lola and Ian decide to have a baby as an attempt to reconnect with their old friends. While happy with their current lifestyle, they wonder if they are missing out on this experience.

When pregnancy and parenthood prove to be more difficult than expected, cracks start to form in the foundation of their relationship. Are they evil for not feeling a loving connection with their child? For missing the life before he came? Or is there something wrong with this seemingly perfect boy?

The character building in this story was incredible. Lola and Ian are charismatic and relatable (who hasn’t gone through an identity crisis, ha) and the tension of something being very wrong builds in a very propulsive way.

There is a supernatural element to the story that I personally could’ve used more of, but this book is brisk even though it’s over 400 pages.

If you want a creepy look at the extremes of parenthood I’d definitely recommend this one.

La trame de l'histoire est solidement élaborée, bien que parsemée de quelques raccourcis disséminés çà et là. Toutefois, compte tenu de la brièveté du livre, qui s'étire sur à peine 180 pages, il est compréhensible que certains développements soient condensés.

Des échos de "Orange Is the New Black" se font sentir dans les passages carcéraux, ajoutant une touche d'authenticité à ces séquences saisissantes.

Le récit dans son ensemble se glisse aisément dans la veine des contes interdits, explorant avec audace des thématiques telles que le sang, le viol, l'inceste et la violence, qui y trouvent toutes leur place.

L'élément fantastique qui émaille l'histoire est habilement exploité, transportant les lecteurs dans un univers habité par les "souris". Parallèlement, l'œuvre laisse la porte ouverte à l'interprétation que ces éléments pourraient tout simplement émaner de l'esprit tourmenté du protagoniste. Cette dualité dans la narration offre une subtile profondeur, laissant place à une réflexion intrigante.

Le personnage de Cendrine est un véritable tour de force dans sa conception. L'équilibre fragile entre une compassion sincère et un profond dégoût envers ce protagoniste est habilement entretenu, s'intégrant harmonieusement dans la trame narrative.

Dans l'ensemble, ce livre se distingue comme une réussite au sein de la série. L'auteur parvient à tisser un récit qui captive et interroge, en explorant des territoires obscurs tout en jonglant avec des éléments surnaturels, faisant de cette lecture une expérience mémorable.

💀🦇👻Life’s not fun without a good scare. Among all Stephen King’s novels, Pet Sematary is by far my absolute favourite. Maybe because it was the first that I read when I was 14 and made me discover this strange and disturbing (and yet so fascinating) universe. Maybe because of a zombie cat named Church. Who knows. I’m sure we all have a handful of authors who are go to’s. You know when a new novel is coming out. You read everything they put out. Grady Hendrix is one of mine. Even if I didn’t love one (or two 😅) of his releases, I know I’m in for a good time.

I think How to Sell a Haunted House is my new favourite of his books.

After the tragic death of their parents, Louise and her estranged brother Mark need to sell their family home. Filled to the brim with memories… and puppets they can’t come together with how to get it done. Mark wants to dump it all. Louise wants to preserve their parents favourite things. The puppets have an idea of their own. Chaos ensues.

This book is unhinged. I encourage you to go into this one as blind as possible. You will think you know where this book is going, and I assure you: there is NO FUCKING WAY you do.

I got very emotionally attached to these characters, I was so angry and sad and frustrated with what was happening to them. Having dealt with the loss of my grandmother last year, and working with my family to split up her life’s belongings, this story just hit me deeply.

And in true Grady fashion this book is just so relentlessly funny. At first I thought this book might be too goofy for me, because puppets are truly goofy shit, but by the time we get to Mark’s story I was fully on board with the life of puppets and their capacity for pure unadulterated evil.
