I don't see a whole lot of fanmission discussion on here, which is a bummer considering they're such a huge part of the classic Thief community and why it's endured so long. With some of the Black Parade hype recently, I think now is the perfect time for this- here's my personal list of TDP/TMA fanmission recs! Not in any particular order (aside from the first 3-5 or so for each game, which are my personal all-time favorites) these are just taken from my highest rated fanmissions in FMSel. Each one links to a Thief Guild page where you can find the mission briefing, screenshots, and downloads.
Thief Gold: Ascend the Dim Valley Endless Rain Rose Garden The Scarlet Cascabel The Black Parade Catacombs of Knoss Alcazar Chalice of Souls Making a Profit The Sound of a Burrick in a Room Whispers Below the Cobblestone Between These Dark Walls Dirty Money Falling, In Love Autumn in Lampfire Hills
Thief 2: Compulsory Egress Into the Odd Bad Debts, and its sequel Disorientation (part of the Talbot series by Melan, along with TG FM Rose Garden) The Violent End of Duncan Malveine Feast of Pilgrims Ominous Bequest, and its sequel Broken Triad Rose Cottage Behind Closed Doors The Turning of the Leaves King Abedzen's Tomb Legacy of Knoss (sequel to TG FM Catacombs of Knoss) The Ties That Bind (the first FM I recall ever playing and, imo, a cute introduction to FMs as a whole) Old Habits and Dead Wives Vanishing Point All For a Night's Sleep The Last Lighthouse Keeper Cracks in the Glass Bloodmist Tower Finals at the Academy Heist at Hilbert's Highrise Hotel The Sun Within and the Sun Without Malazar's Inscrutable Tower Ravensreach Coaxing the Spirit Keyhunt
Here's a TTLG thread on how to set up both games for playing FMs. I personally don't use any fancy loaders, FMSel will be what you get by default, it works perfect and is all you need. TTLG overall is just a great place to be, it's good for FM hints/walkthroughs/recs and general Thief/Looking Glass discussion.
Ideally you have T2Fix already installed, but for setting your game up for FMs, you should do a quick reinstall and make sure that two options are ticked: common script modules, and T2FMDML. T2FMDML is a collection of fixes for Thief 2 FMs that wouldn't otherwise play nice with NewDark, and the scripts as I understand are for FMs that need them but either come packaged with older versions or without the scripts at all- there's a lot of older FMs out there that will be broken for you if you don't have both installed. You can just rerun the T2Fix installer for this, you don't need to reinstall the game or anything.
Thief Guild is where all the links lead, and it's a great site for finding FMs. You can filter by genre (city, thieves' highway, cathedral, etc.) or look through the usermade collections- for a start, I'd recommend looking at the collections specifically to find classic/early FMs, a category that I know I'm not hitting on much in my list here but is definitely worth checking out if you're at all interested.
Bonus Dark Mod rec: The Dark Mod is a fanmade, free, Thief-inspired stealth game. I haven't played nearly as many missions for it as I have for Thief, but it's still absolutely worth checking out to see if it clicks for you. If you only play one TDM mission, though, my personal rec is Iris.
If you have any, add on with your own FM recs also! Feel free to send asks or dms about anything FM-related, as well ^^ I'm always looking for more to check out, and always open to talk about them if anyone wants.

Seville was the first stop on our trip to Spain and Italy. We stayed right in the downtown core in a lovely boutique hotel that served afternoon tea and a lovely buffet breakfast each morning.Back home, I have walked into so many homes where there is an elaborately ornate staircase design that often looks totally out of place. Now I know where the design was inspired. And it fits right in here. Along with the tile after one of my followers on Instagram noted “There’s no subway tile Maria”.So that’s what inspired this post. Which was easy to write because I took so many photos of all the tile work.I know many of you, who are longtime readers, might fall off your chair or drop your morning coffee but here is where decorative tile has a place:This was a doorway in the reception area of the hotel:Here’s the staircase (below):The first night, we had dinner in a nearby restaurant. I liked the way the muted red encaustic tile related to the bricks on the same wall (below):And it also worked well with the black and white tile floors:This was the backsplash tile in the breakfast room, back in the hotel (below):This was the floor in the Seville Cathedral nearby (below):Then we toured the Real Alcazar of Seville, castle and gardens. Gorgeous tiles everywhere (below):       When does this kind of tile work back home? In context with a Spanish/Mediterranean style home, with an exterior that possibly looks like this:Image sourceAn entry staircase with iron railings ornate or not (below):Centsational StyleWood beamed ceilings, ornate, spanish style pendants, black, arched windows, all belong in a house with this colourful tile (below):image sourceYou could also design a terra cotta floor with a turquoise kitchen (below):Image sourceIn this Spanish kitchen with the beams in the ceiling and curved plaster hood fan, I could even live with the blue backsplash because it’s been repeated in the plates and tile underneath the window.Image sourcePerhaps your styling might look like this with the Spanish style wall sconce as well:Image sourceIn a Spanish style home, your powder room could look like this (below). Notice the arched doorway and perfect light fixture.Image sourceI love this fireplace design (below). So classic and timeless. Again, notice the beams and the arched french doors. The beautiful outdoor fireplace too with the iron gate.image sourceIt’s rare that I think a black leather sofa looks good but here in this more neutral ‘Spanish inspired’ living room, it works. Because there’s not too much black to make it heavy and masculine (below):image sourceWhat I have seen all too often is people will go on a trip to Europe and fall in love with a particular style and when they get home they start adding these random design elements that in no way work with the existing style of their home. That’s where random arches that have no place suddenly appear, or the busy, ornate staircase railing I mentioned at the beginning of this post or random rows of tile on a staircase kick that in no way belongs.Decorative tile has a place. And that place is definitely not as a random strip in your kitchen backsplash or shower surround. At least if you’re going to introduce accent tile, go big or go home, (like the bathroom image above) but don’t just install bits and pieces of it. Decorative tile is like a strong wall colour. If you’ve decided to paint a room red, go for it, don’t just paint it on a single wall, that rarely works.Related post: A New Way to Design Accent Tile: Ceramic ArchitectureHere are a couple more images once we arrived in Barcelona: Here I am sitting outside at dinner in a Tapas restaurant in Seville:The sidewalks in Seville were mostly concrete in a hex shape! Isn’t that incredible? You can see it behind me too in the photo above.Hexagonal concrete tile in SevilleYou’ll notice white walls are big in Spanish design. September 22 2023 Segovia and Madrid
Tumblr media
Happy 72nd Birthday Bruce! My handsome husband is nearly as vibrant today as on the day I first met him when he was only 25 years old. He has slowed down a bit as he has aged but has only become wiser, kinder, more resilient, and more compassionate! This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, our driver, Frank drove us to Segovia to visit the city, the aqueduct, the cathedral, and the alcazar.
Tumblr media
The aqueduct is AMAZINGA and even longer than I imagined. We walked the length of it and back to the city center. It was a bit chilly so we stopped in a shop and I bought a lovely, warm, colorful scarf.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We climbed the stone steps to tour the upper part of the city and found the cathedral to be impressive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What REALLY impressed, though, was the alcazar, which is another name for a castle or fortress. According to Wikipedia:
"The Alcazar of Segovia is a medieval castle located in the city of Segovia, in Castile and León, Spain. It has existed since at least the 12th century, and is one of the most renowned medieval castles globally and one of the most visited landmarks in Spain. It has been the backdrop for significant historical events and has been home to twenty-two kings, along with notable historical figures.
Tumblr media
The fortress stands on a rocky crag at the western end of Segovia's Old City, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, above the confluence of rivers Eresma and Clamores. Today, it is used as a museum and a military archives building since its declaration as a National Archive by a Royal Decree in 1998. It has also worked at times as a state prison, a Royal Artillery College, and a military academy.
Tumblr media
The Alcazar served both as a royal palace and a fortress for the Castilian monarchs, and its architecture reflects the grandeur and is a notable example of "power architecture": the impenetrable walls, the deep moat, its impressive towers like the Homage or Juan II's, and the strategic location symbolize power and authority. Furthermore, the luxury and opulence of its interior, with lavishly decorated rooms and coffered ceilings, were designed to awe and subdue visitors, reinforcing the authority of the Kings of Castile. Similarly, the legends and rumors surrounding the Alcazar of Segovia have played a significant role in its history.
Tumblr media
Despite its stern and fortified appearance, the Alcazar of Segovia has also been a place of daily life. Many princes, nobles, and infants have grown up within its halls, and their presence has helped soften the palace's appearance, making the castle a home for many.
Tumblr media
Its history begins in the 12th or early 13th century when the royal family of Castile had quarters in the Alcazar, known as the "major palace". In the Homage tower, the treasure of the Crown of Castile was stored, from which funds were secured to finance Christopher Columbus's first voyage.
Tumblr media
In 1437, the books of the royal administration were moved to the Alcazar, establishing one of the first royal archives of Castile and laying one of the foundations for the current General Archive of Simancas. Additionally, the Alcazar housed the royal armory, which served as the basis for the one now exhibited in the Royal Armory of Madrid.
Tumblr media
The Alcazar has been the stage for crucial events in Spain's history, such as the Cortes of Castile, held there on multiple occasions; the signing of the Concord of Segovia, which laid the groundwork for the formation of the Spanish nation, took place there; Isabel the Catholic, one of the most significant and influential women in history, left the Alcazar to proclaim herself queen of Castile. It was also the site of the last meeting between Christopher Columbus and King Ferdinand the Catholic before the explorer's death.
Tumblr media
The marriage of Philip II to Ana of Austria strengthened the alliance between the House of Habsburg and the Hispanic Monarchy. As the headquarters of the royal college of artillery, in the 18th century, the first military flight for military purposes was carried out, marking the beginning of military aviation, and the chemist Louis Proust, a professor at the Royal College, formulated the Law of Definite Proportions, a fundamental advance in modern chemistry.
Tumblr media
The Alcazar of Segovia has made its mark on cinema and popular culture. It was used by Orson Welles in the film "Chimes at Midnight" and served as inspiration for Cinderella castle in the Walt Disney movie."
Tumblr media
By the time we finished visiting the alcazar we were famished. We had noticed this restaurant , Casa Vicente, when we began our tour of the upper part of Segovia, so we returned there for lunch.
Tumblr media
It was warm and cozy inside, with a roaring fire in the fireplace. Just what we needed to take away the chill! The food was nourishing and flavorful, and as it filled our bellies it made us feel happy and a little drowsy. It was a good thing Frank was driving because I dozed off much of the way back to the hotel.
Tumblr media
When we got back to our suite we found that the staff had left a gift for Bruce's birthday. It was a nice gesture but little did they know that I don't like balloons because if they are released into the atmosphere and descend to Earth they create a hazard for birds, turtles, and other animals who may eat them thinking they are food, which can harm and even kill them. Balloons also contribute to plastic pollution. They can take hundreds of years to biodegrade. Over time these pieces get smaller and smaller, eventually turning into microplastics, which can then pollute the water supply and end up being ingested by fish, and then people.
Tumblr media
The better gift was the fruit that housekeeping left us when they cleaned our suite! We rested and played games during what was left of the afternoon and then went to Amos Restaurant at the hotel for Bruce's birthday dinner. I was still full from lunch so I didn't eat much but, as you know, if you know, Bruce, he can ALWAYS eat, so he enjoyed the meal a lot!

10 Unique And Offbeat Things To Do In Hyderabad In 2024
As one tends to sum up Hyderabad in his/her mind, names like Golconda Fort and Charminar precede. However, if you are eager to go beyond the conventional tourist traps then there are a lot of offbeat things to do in Hyderabad. Here are ten peculiar attractions and things to do that will help in making your experience different in the year 2024.
The location based event The Silver Ghost at Chowmahalla Palace
Chowmahalla Palace where the Nizams used to sit and rule has a very interesting item it has got today called the Silver Ghost. This antique car model is a Rolls-Royce, a car manufacture that is associated with luxury from the early years of the twentieth century and will definitely attract the attention of anyone when it is parked in the palace compound.
Sudha Cars Museum
Unlike conventional car museums, Sudha Cars Museum captures cars that have resemblances to the general everyday commodities. Think of a car model that is designed like a stiletto or handbag! K. Sudhakar is the founder of this museum which is listed with Limca Book of World Record and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

Saturday, April 6 - Segovia to Toledo

We had all morning and into the early afternoon in Segovia, so we started out by going to the cathedral just when it opened at nine. As a result we pretty much had the place to ourselves. It is a massive late Gothic cathedral that soars high, and has the tallest tower in Spain, at 88 meters. It was begun in 1525, and completed in 1577, and is really stunning. We had expected just a cathedral, but the visit included a wonderful tapestry section, with tapestries illustrating the planets, which were much more earthly than the usual cathedral fare. There was also an exquisite display of art in the crypt area - no real "names", but still beautiful and well- displayed. There was also a room dedicated to a son of the king whose crypt had been opened about ten years ago, and the items that were found in a chest inside. There were only three bones, but also clothing and a shroud for the bones. They had an informative video of the DNA analysis of the bones and then the painstaking conservation of the clothing, which is now on display. When they had finished with all their analyses, they replaced the bones in the chest in the crypt, along with a copy of the research.
We had thought we would maybe spend a half hour in the cathedral, but wound up spending almost two hours, and the tour groups were starting to fill up the place. We then decided to check out of our hotel, where we could still leave our bags, and take a walk down and around the Alcazar end of the hill. It was lovely to be on a forest path for a while, away from stone streets, and hear birdsong and rushing water. On our way back up to the top, we passed a lovely community garden, complete with natty scarecrow.
We eventually rolled back to the aqueduct area, saw this little devil taking his selfie, and caught our bus back to the train station. We had plenty of time to change train stations in Madrid, but I'm glad this will be the last time. The next train we take will be back to Madrid, where we will stay until we fly out on Wednesday.
We arrived in Toledo, took a bus up to the old town, and checked into our hotel. Our room is small, but there is a communal terrace which was mostly empty where we watched the lights illuminate the Toledo cathedral. A beautiful evening, and tomorrow we have all day to explore.

since it'll probably take me forever to get around to actually picking out my top recommendations and listing them out the way i want, here's a list of my top rated and otherwise most beloved/memorable fms, in no particular order
thief gold: ascend the dim valley endless rain rose garden the scarlet cascabel the black parade catacombs of knoss (2021 remaster) alcazar making a profit the sound of a burrick in a room whispers below the cobblestone between these dark walls dirty money falling, in love autumn in lampfire hills chalice of souls
thief 2: compulsory egress into the odd bad debts & disorientation the violent end of duncan malveine the ties that bind (the first fm i recall playing) ominous bequest & broken triad rose cottage behind closed doors the turning of the leaves king abedzen's tomb legacy of knoss (sequel to catacombs of knoss) feast of pilgrims these unfortunate ones old habits and dead wives vanishing point all for a night's sleep the last lighthouse keeper bloodmist tower cracks in the glass finals at the academy heist at hilbert's highrise hotel the sun within and the sun without malazar's inscrutable tower ravensreach coaxing the spirit keyhunt
it's also worth looking at thiefguild to find missions sorted by type, author, year, etc- i didn't feel like linking all of these but you can just search up the name and find download links on the page. there's even user-made collections that i recommend, esp for things like getting into earlier/classic fms that i'm really not hitting on in my list here. here's a ttlg thread on how to set up both games for playing fms, i don't use any fancy loaders, fmsel will be what you get by default, it works perfect and is all you need. ttlg is also good for fm hints/walkthroughs and thief discussion in general, have fun tee hee
