I am writing to urge you to cosponsor H.R.4052, the National Infrastructure Bank (NIB) Act.

The National Infrastructure Bank would provide $5 trillion in low-cost loans for a broad range of public infrastructure projects – including massive water systems – without the need for increasing taxes or any deficit budget spending. This has been done previously in US history—this bill is modeled on the successful Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) started by President Herbert Hoover and used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to build Hoover Dam and bring water and electricity to the Southwest.

Infrastructure investment is crucial in the US. We have an immense backlog of infrastructure needs including: affordable housing, total broadband coverage, bridge and road repair or replacement, lead service line replacement, high-speed rail, mass transit, etc. The NIB would finance all these projects—it picks up where the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act left off.

There is wide-ranging support for this. Twenty-seven state legislatures have introduced resolutions of support, and eight passed at least one chamber. Dozens of city and county councils have endorsed including: Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, Cleveland, and many more.

E d i t o r i a l Circula en redes una nota titulada "Los Salgado Macedonio en la mira de la DEA", acreditada a un medio de comunicación que tiene como eslogan "el mejor diario del país" y replicada en Yucatán por otro que se presume "el mejor periódico del estado". El artículo en cuestión cita como fuente a la Administración de Control de Drogas del Departamento del Tesoro de Estados Unidos, y la House of Representatives de Estados Unidos. Mejor aún, difunde una senda carta firmada por Robert Newlen, "director" de dicha Casa de Representantes. ¡Pero Robert Newlen no

aparece en ninguna de las búsquedas de la oficina en mención ni como autor de esa carta que "el mejor diario del país" utiliza de fuente! En los archivos de Google aparece un Robert Newlen, de 75 años de edad, pero se le describe como "coleccionista de arte" y "bibliotecario jubilado" del Congreso estadounidense. El sitio "bridgewater.edu" asegura que este Newlen trabajó 42 años en la Biblioteca de la 'House of Representatives'... pero no hay testimonios de ser autor de una misiva para involucrar a la gobernadora de Guerrero con los grupos criminales que la nota citada, la de la evidente 'guerra sucia', arriba describe. Ninguna búsqueda en redes, internet, mucho menos en oficinas del Gobierno o el Congreso de Estados Unidos se halló carta alguna con los nombres de Evelyn y Félix Salgado. Consultadas todas las páginas en cuestión (DEA, Casa de Representantes y el Departamento del Tesoro), no se halló alusión alguna sobre el tema, ¡ni siquiera el nombre de Evelyn Salgado ni de Félix Salgado en todos los espacios de dichas oficinas del Gobierno de Estados Unidos! ) https://usa.gov ) https://www.usa.gov/es/agencias/departamento-del-tesoro https://www.house.gov Todo lo anterior demuestra que se trata de una auténtica #FakeNews para desprestigiar la imagen de la mandataria y el senador guerrerense con dicho artículo viralizado en redes e internet con fines muy obvios.  ¡Hasta para orquestar una 'guerra sucia' se debe ser inteligente! No. No es nuestro deber la defensa de la gobernadora ni del senador Salgado, para ello existe una oficina para tal objetivo. Nos dio curiosidad la Carta con que se magnificaron el artículo y pretendieron acreditar tal acusación en el "mejor diario del país", donde se hace mención de grupos criminales comandados por Celso Ortega Rosas (asesinado el 26 de enero de 2011, en la época que gobernaba Ángel Aguirre, no Evelyn Salgado), Johnny y Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga y Onésimo Marquina Chapa, a los que supuestamente las autoridades antinarcóticas de Estados Unidos buscan, junto con Evelyn y Félix.   Sin daños a terceros...

Federal Motion Picture Commission

The linked document is a 1934 hearing before a House of Representatives committee amending the definition of the Federal Motion Picture Commission, which eventually became the MPAA, responsible for defining the rules around “decency” in film and for inspecting and cataloging all films before commercial release. These rules would become known in the industry as the Hays Code.

It is easy to cast those behind any censorship efforts as anti-art or anti-expression. They just don’t get it, do they? I was surprised then to find their description of art to quite well put and kind of beautiful.

“Motion pictures are an important form of art expression. Art enters immediately into the lives of human beings, the presentation of human though, emotion, and experience, in terms of an appeal to the soul through the senses.”

Unfortunately, they wield the important impact of art as an argument for restriction, placing the decision of "decency" in the hands of the few. As we enter a new era of book bannings and other forms of social censorship, it is important tto be aware of the history of similar movements from our past so that we can best address them in the future.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu awarded the GCON to House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas

Following a debate in the House of Representatives, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu presented House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). In compliance with the National Order of Precedence, the Speaker has been upgraded to GCON by the President, who earlier bestowed the title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) onto the Speaker and the Deputy Senate President. The House of Representatives made a historical mistake and oversight, which sparked a discussion about the president's choice. Later, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Speaker, the President of the Senate, and other key members of the National Assembly will be formally bestowed with their new titles. Mr. Bayo Onanuga said, “President Tinubu was persuaded by the House of Representatives’ position and has decided to remedy the historical error and oversight. “Thus, he has decided to upgrade the Speaker to GCON from CFR, in accordance with the National Order of Precedence.” Read the full article
