PSA on Tumblr Tags: Tag Lists & # Tags

Just wanted to spread this news for people who don't know the new Tumblr updates that have to do with tagging on posts, both for user tag lists and for descriptive hashtags to help people find your post. I've had to learn them the hard way. 😅

User Tagging:

This first part is for people who have tag lists. Tumblr has recently changed the rules on tagging other blogs/users on a post.

You can still tag up to 50 blogs per post, but they must be spread out into groups of 5. Otherwise, the blog won't be highlighted/tagged and the person will not be notified.

Notice that only the first 5 blogs in each section are actually tagged.

Also something important to note: copy/pasting a tag list alone often isn't enough. After I copy over a tag list from another post, I always have to click on each blog name individually to select the blog and make sure it's tagged properly, so people get notified.

Trust me, I get why some writers have decided to ditch tag lists altogether. They can be tricky. 😂

Hashtags on Posts:

As most of you guys know, hashtags help people find your post. The limit of how many tags you can use has bumped up to 30 tags.

Now, this doesn't mean you have to use all 30 slots. But using the most popular tags will increase the likelihood that people will find your post.

By no means am I an expert on this, but I've been reading a lot of stories that should have SO many more reblogs, comments, etc. If some of them were using a few more key tags, they'd likely be getting much more traffic and notes on them.

Want to find out which hashtags are the most popular, relevant to your post?

Well, you can actually search them in the Your Tags tab, Tags You Follow, and go to Manage:

For Dean Winchester fanfiction, for example, here are the tags I use most often:

Ignore the first and last tags, which are just for me to organize the post for my blog. But I would say the most important tags here are the first few:

[character's full name]

[character's full name] x reader or [character's full name] x oc

fandom name

These three are absolutely key for any romance pairing fanfiction post, in my opinion.

Aside from being the most relevant for a pairing fanfic, these are often the most popular tags overall, as they are the tags with a high follower count. The rest can also be important supplemental hashtags relevant to the post.

You can also just start typing into this bar in your post draft and see what "popular tag" recommendations Tumblr gives you:

Sorry guys, questions from your own OCs is fine but I'm not willing to take questions from people roleplaying as canon characters, even from other ask blogs/universes. It's just not the vibe here.

I have been considering using the good traffic here to promote other ask blogs I enjoy. It could be a fun way to spread the attention around.

Recently managed to upgrade my drawing tablet so you'll be noticing an upgrade to the quality of the comics from now on. And recently went into progress of buying new parts to build a dedicated workstation for art from now on. (I've worked from the same laptop I've had for a decade now so it will be like going from a flintstones car to a jet engine.) Ever since the inception of this blog, a persistent question has been haunting me: Will any of this truly make a difference? Today's (1/20/2025) Episode: Celebrating Success

Skye’s new relationship status wasn’t the only thing that gave xem cause to celebrate over the next few days.

Having finally begun taking advantage of the accommodation to use xir laptop for lessons while xir wrist healed, xir grades continued to improve. 

To celebrate Luigi and Noemi took a group of teens to the aquarium for an evening of fun which Skye, of course, documented for his Uncle’s blog.

That particular journalistic “side hustle” was working out well for both Skye and xir uncle.

“Your star is on the rise my friend” Cullen told xem one evening as they settled down together to sample the offerings at the new Boba Tea shop that had just opened in San Sequoia “Your fresh perspective is really resonating with younger sims. I’d been fighting a dip in traffic since scaling back, but since you started posting your reviews our viewership has increased 15%. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your help.”

Skye basked in the unexpected praise “That’s awesome! It's been a lot of fun. I’m glad we worked out that “photo blog” format. I don’t mind writing a bit of copy to flesh it all out, but I much prefer telling the story in pictures.”

“You’re welcome.” Cullen smiled “You certainly don’t seem to be the only one who appreciates it!”

Skye’s increased fame in the public eye led to an exciting opportunity back at Copperdale.

One evening before xe and Gretchen headed out to cover the Science Fair, the newspaper’s faculty advisor, Mr. Haas, asked Skye if xe would be willing  take over as Editor in Chief for the second half of the school year. “Demetrius is planning to graduate early, and you’d do well as our student leader.”

After a moment of shock, Skye grinned from ear to ear. “Thank you so much! I won’t let you down, although I’m not sure how to get started.”

“Well for now, just go cover the fair as you planned.” Mr. Haas chuckled “Later this week I’ll have you sit down with Demetrius and go over everything. I look forward to seeing what new ideas you have to make our little paper even better.”

Of course, Skye being Skye, xir elation quickly morphed into anxiety.

“How’s my superstar doing this morning?” Noemi asked as she came to join the rest of her family for breakfast.

 “Fine, I guess” Skye sighed “I have to start focusing on finals if I want to ace my exams, but Uncle Cullen needs me to cover the opening of this new ice cream parlor for him, and Mr. Haas is counting on me to collect and layout the articles for next week’s edition.”

“Not to mention” xe continued “I’m getting my cast off soon, which is great, but then I’ll have to start making time for physical therapy. Its all so important and I know I’m so lucky, its not fair of me to complain. I could tell Gretchen was disappointed that I got made editor instead of her…”

Before xe could keep spiraling Noemi cut in “just because you’re lucky to have so many great opportunities doesn’t mean its not OK to feel a little overwhelmed. Your dad and I both know how it is to want to do it all and do it well – if becoming lead programmer for the Watcher Tales franchise taught me anything its that I’m just as much a perfectionist as your father. In that area, you take after both of us.”

“My best advice is to take it one day at a time and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.” she continued “I’m sure Uncle Cullen will understand if you want to cut back on reviews a little to focus on your exams and your therapy, for example. He knows that your health and education come first.”

Skye wasn’t totally convinced but xe nodded and thanked xir mother for her advice. “Anytime” she replied “Now… how about we start by me helping you with your newspaper planning? I can organize with the best of them, and it will be fun to work on the layout.”

 “Yes please” Skye said with relief. The brief trouble between them over Elyse hadn’t changed how much xe looked up to xir mother, and with her support xe felt that xir success was all but guaranteed!

My entire life, I've yearned for the kind of community the Jewish community and Judaism have provided me. I found out I had Jewish ancestry when I was a kid, I looked into it more later and realized my most recent Jewish ancestor (like three-ish generations back) was almost certainly forcibly converted out, and decided to convert to like. Make amends for that I guess and also because I really vibed with the holidays and how we turn up everywhere in history bc we keep doing cool stuff despite consistently shitty circumstances.

But I digress.

I have waited my WHOLE LIFE trying to experience the joy becoming Jewish has shown me, and that gets shit on constantly.

My sister has started making a truly obscene number of Jew jokes. My mom scoffs at all the 'nonsense rules' and has said repeatedly that she thinks choosing a 'restrictive' religion is dumb and I've made a mistake. She even said it's an insult to HER parenting skills that I would seek out religion after she tried to teach me to know better.

My dad is dead but I never ever in a million years would have told him even if he were alive, and my sister thinks it's funny to threaten to 'out' me as Jewish to his relatives even though they're basically KKK-adjacent so she actually enjoys threatening mg safety at this point. (Yay family right?)

My friends have turned everything into an Israel/Palestine discussion lately and I know damn well what they're doing when they start saying truly horrible shit about Israelis and looking at me. They get mad if I try to temper their extremism so I've given up. I barely talk to them anymore and I spend more and more time with other Jews from temple and I don't want to like. Isolate myself from all non-Jews I guess bc I've always felt like that leads to weirdness and perpetuates shit about Jews being unfriendly I guess idk?

Anyway I digress again. My point is I'm really sick of constantly being expected to tolerate it when people think I shouldn't be Jewish.

Other queer people think I'm somehow compromising my queer identity by being Jewish, leftists think I hunt Palestinian children for sport now apparently, right-wingers think I traffic good Christian babies for organ harvesting or some shit idfk, my friends think that if I'm not being more vitriolic in my hatred of Israel than they already are I'm some kind of secret rabid Netanyahu fan, my family think I've been recruited into a cult apparently and the only other people who show me even an ounce of compassion or regard are other Jews and Gd knows there's like ten of us and that number is unlikely to increase.

Just. Fuck. I've put blood, sweat, tears and money into this, I invested more time and emotional commitment into this than I have into going to college or choosing a career, I love it more than anything and have only loved it more the more I learned about it, and all I get when I express this or even just let slip that I am Jewish and chose to be, I get nothing but hatred. I will never understand how a religion that has spent all 5000 years of our existence minding our business and arguing about the same book over and over can possibly have offended this many people with our existence.

But I think having to spend your life surrounded by people who make you feel unsafe and disrespected is worse. I know you don't want to isolate yourself from goyim. Many Jewish people don't want to. Sadly, when people disrespect us like this, they're the ones isolating us. It's not your fault. Seek people who love and accept you. Sadly, a good chunk of goyim won't - I'm not saying everyone, obviously, but a portion. h8 is a drug exclusively cultivated and sourced in the WRATH ring, where it is sold in very small qualities over the counter in capsules as a type of form of performance-enhancing drug. its desired effects include increased motor function, heightened sense, a decreased physical refractory period, and reduced inhibition. basically, it makes you feel fucking invincible for 6-12 hours.

utilization is typically reserved for older adults who struggle with energy levels and maintaining a personal level of wrath or physical prowess around times like harvest, pain games-like festivals, or holidays like sinsmas. however, because there are several cultural hang-ups regarding its use (notably implications of impotence or being 'past one's prime') among the citizens of wrath, abuse of h8 is generally only found OUTSIDE of wrath.

Enjoy a dribble??? o: This is from a weird little world that floats around in the back in my head from time to time. I haven't wanted to fully flesh it out yet, but writing these news reports and blog posts following the birth of an Old God reborn (and an incident they might've caused later in life) was a fun little world-building exercise, ngl~ c:

The Sun Burned Bright At Midnight.

The residents of Gravehill were surprised by an unusual phenomena Yarasday night. A sun-like object suddenly appeared in the night sky, lighting up the town as if it was a hot summer afternoon. The winter-bundled residents were bewildered by the sudden flash, resulting in numerous traffic collisions, injuries and a lingering sense of insomnia in some.

While puzzled at first by the light, it wasn’t long before the cause was located. The timing coincided perfectly with the birth of a child at Mercy Vale General Hospital. A spokesperson for The Accord of the Seven-Threaded confirmed it this morning: an Old God was indeed reborn. This will be the sixth Old God rebirth in just as many years, but the spokesperson assured the public there was nothing to worry about.

“The Old Gods have always existed, and will kept existing until this universe burns out. While this uptick is highly unusual, it’s not unheard and it is nowhere near the record of consecutive rebirths.” The current record is in fact nineteen in the course of twelve years, set back in 367 PF.

The spokesperson continued though. “We’re already in contact with their parents, and steps are being taken to set them up with all the resources they’ll need. We may no longer have a need for the Old Gods, but we still should respect them and treat them no differently from each other."

It should be noted that most people don’t materialize new suns at midnight. However, the new sun has already disappeared and the family is in talks of being relocated to a safer area. And despite the uptick, it is rare to see any other old magic after the rebirth.

Let’s hope the newest Old God continues with this trend.

Hope Springs To Be A New Tether.

Hope Springs, a small island community up North, has been confirmed to be the latest Tether chosen. With the rapid increase in the Old God rebirths, triple anything we’ve seen in the last three hundred years, some say The Accord is struggling to keep hold Tether locations. The stockpile has run dry, according to an inside source.

The same source also reported that Hope Springs offered itself up as a potential Tether. As an island community, it has natural boundaries that make the Tether easier to set up and reinforce. There’s also speculation that having an Old God among its midst will be a boon to the slowly dying tourist hub. The Mayor certainly seemed enthusiastic, in a press conference yesterday afternoon.

“Hope Springs has always had a soft spot for the Old Ways, operating one of the oldest Seven-Threaded Churches in this country. It would be an honor to be chosen as a Tether, and we’re more than happy to make our newest family feel welcomed and at home here.”

It’s a hopeful sign, and we wish Hope Springs best of luck as a Tether is being set up. We all know how difficult a task it can be after Aresdale’s troubles setting up theirs. But the Accord has assured the public that natural boundaries make the process almost seamless.

“It Felt Like Every Molecule Exploded Around Us.”

It’s a line we’re all heard by now. A video from one of the Wilfail Narrows Bridge survivors went viral over the weekend, as they manically tried to explain what happened during the disaster. Fifty-two people lost their lives when the bridge had a catastrophic failure last Ohnesday, with another one hundred fifteen injured.

All the stories collected though seemingly paint a confusing picture to what exactly happened. The bridge showed no signs of failure previously. While the details from the survivors and onlookers are muddled, the failure appears to have happened in a blink of an eye and the few near the epicenter all describe a loud popping sound, like all the molecules of air around them exploded at once and simply leveled the bridge itself.

Given the Wilfail Narrows Bridge is the main road to Hope Springs, many have questioned if its local Old God had anything to do with it. It’s been roughly eleven years since the Tether was placed, and things have been relatively quiet since. The location of the Old God has been suspiciously absent from reports, even when asked by reporters. “We will not comment on the location one of our community's children, especially given the tragedy at hand,” said the Mayor.

There will be a public candlelight vigil held on the 6th at the Sunset Plaza.

Edit: The Morningtide Gazette apologizes for the commentary made by Mr. Fray. The implication of a child causing such a disaster, and willingly, falls well below our journalistic integrity. We’ve chosen to edit that section out, and we deeply apologize to the victims and their families for this baseless tabloid speculation.

“Madness To Pretend Otherwise.”

The idea of Old Gods reborn is such a misnomer. The Old Gods have never entered this reality, and never will. We know they are simply incompatible with our realm, and thus stay away. Are they kind enough to realize that they would unravel the laws of our universe, or do they simply fear their powers will be suppressed if they crossed over?

We’ll never know, and the Churches have been fighting over that idea for eons. What we do know is this: what we call reborn Old Gods are simple humans, like everyone else. The magic that causes such phenomena like midnight suns and sand tsunamis are because of a fragmented sliver of the Old God that slipped through realities, and those fragments enjoy attaching themselves to newly born infants.

There’s a debate to be had that the Old Gods of Old were the same: humans possessing the same fragments. Without the Tether, it’s hard for the modern souls to fathom the powers these humans could wield. They would’ve felt like True Entities, and perhaps without a Tether, they were more entuned with our Gods Beyond the Sea. We simply don’t know, and that's because from birth itself, we’re deemed problematic and are clipped at the wings for the sake of the greater good.

And I understand why, more than any of you will. Have you dull the sun because the hangover hit you too strong? Dance on the atoms, up into the sky, without a worry of falling? Seen existence born into life, and decay in the next? Neither have I, but part of me remembers. Part of me longs to connect to something bigger than myself. I crave it, deeper and darker than you can imagine.

But often, I wonder, is that because of the fragment resting in my soul? Or, is it the isolation I’ve been forced to suffer my whole life because of my birth? If you were able to look out and see lights and people and connection, a world living without you, wouldn’t you want to touch it too?

If that one did cause the bridge collapse, it is a pity. Truly. It’s a tragedy. But, I still understand the compulsion to leave intimately. We all want to leave. It’s madness to pretend otherwise.

How can social media be used as a way to exploit its users in a way that causes irreparable harm and yet not be seen or punished the way exploitation is punished in the real world?

            I think this is because of the fact there are a variety of forms of exploitation that not everyone knows about or even realizes that it’s happening. Most people know that sites like Facebook take your information and sell it to other companies so they can produce advertisements that are catered to you, but what some people don’t know is that websites that take your can have it stolen and don’t even report that it happens and when they do finally report it it’s much too late to be able to take action and yet those company’s face no repercussions for their negligence on taking care of such private information.

How has social media strayed from its purpose of being a way to connect and bring people together to being used by certain individuals to divide us?

            These days social media is still used to connect people around the world, but there are a fraction people who see social media as a tool to spread hate and misinformation to either intentionally skew the view of the readers or simply for the gain of higher traffic to their platforms. I think the reason social media is used in such a way is because people allow their own personal beliefs to influence the type of content that they post online o spread information that strengthens that belief whether it is true or not. There is also the factor of online news being controlled by corporations that are looking to make the most money off the reader so they’ll use inaccurate reporting so long as they see their profits or views rise.

Is there a connection between the rise of wealthy individuals buying out media outlets and the increased proportion of societal divide amongst people?

            I believe that there is a strong correlation between wealthy individuals buying out media outlets and the increasing societal divide amongst people because the control a media outlet lets one person depict the type of stories the public gets to hear and controls the perspective that they hear it in. Such control can give people and unbelievably large sum of power and as Able once said, “He who molds public sentiment goes deeper than he who enacts statutes or pronounces decisions” (Gonzalez and Torres, 2012)

Are steps needed to regulate the way we hear news online in a way that is fair and unbiased or should social media continue to be used the way it is to provide news for the public?

            I think there needs to be some form of regulation to ensure that the news we see online is in fact true and unbiased rather than be shown information that is inaccurate. Allowing people to freely post news online has caused a lot of misinformation to spread due to people’s personally bias’s and often these bias’s slip through into the story and affect people's understand of what goes on in the world.
