Dragon Lotus Chp. 9: SHINee Fanfic

CHAPTER NINE

I wake up this morning feeling energized. Probably still on an excitement high from yesterday. I still can��t believe I possess such an amazing gift. I start getting ready for another day at school. Key picks me up and we head to campus. I’m in such a great mood the entire ride to school and as we walk to our first class, but there’s always that one person that has to try and ruin my mood. And in this case, the universe selected Minho. As Key and I are walking, Minho walks right into me, nearly knocking my books out of my hands. As I turn to scowl at him, he replies with a quick, “Watch where you’re going mutt.” Words cannot express the pure distain I have for that boy, but I refuse to let him get to me. From the corner of my eye, I can see Key about to say something, but I just grab his arm, shake my head, and direct us towards class.

The day rolls on and I’m finally in history class, my favorite. The lesson starts off great, until I can start to hear low mumbling from the back of the class. I turn around to see who was talking and I’m not surprised by what I find. It’s Minho. As I turn, he glares at me. I roll my eyes and try to refocus my attention to the lesson, but I can still hear him talking in the back. And of course all he is doing is talking bad about me.

“Uhh… Just look at her. Thinking she’s so smart. Acting all high and mighty just because she has the best grades in class, he says frustrated.

“Sounds like someone is jealous,” a friend of his replies.

“Jealous… Me… Of what. That freak. No way man. Smarts mean nothing if you have the reputation of being the freak in school,” he scoffs.

I am so sick of hearing this crap. I wish I could drown them out. But then, I heard a response I was not expecting.

“You know being the popular jock in school means nothing if you also have the reputation of being a dumbass. From the way your grades look, you should be begging her to help you with schoolwork instead of criticizing her for being different Minho,” Lydia says.

I was completely shocked yet grateful to have Lydia sticking up for me. I don’t know if she’s just doing this because she’s genuinely being nice or because she is trying to secure me as her tutor, but either way I’m very appreciative.

“I am not a dumbass. I am actually very smart,” Minho retorts.

“The C’s and D’s in most of your classes say otherwise. The only class you’re passing is Intro. To Reiki and that’s basically just gym class,” she claps back.

Oh… that has to burn. Lydia is savage. I cannot help but laugh to myself silently. Minho was about to reply when the lunch bell rang. The class gets dismissed to lunch and we all head to the cafeteria. I go through the line and sit at the usual table with Key, Yuta, Mina, Yeri, and Jonghyun. The conversation is random as usual but that’s the way I like it.

“So, anything interesting happen to you guys over the weekend,” Yeri asked.

“My dog had 11 puppies over the weekend. They’re all so cute,” Yuta says like a proud dad.

“Aww… PUPPIES,” Mina and Jonghyun squeal in unison. We all laugh so hard at their reactions.

“Can we come over this weekend and see them,” Yeri asks.

“Of course. You’re all welcome to come over,” Yuta agrees.

“Anything else happen this weekend,” Yeri asks.

“Well, it didn’t happen during the weekend but Adajoon summoned her reiki for the first time yesterday,” Key announces.

I almost choke on my food from the unexpected announcement. As I’m having my coughing fit, I look at him with a questioning look that said “why’d you say that”.

“Sorry Adajoon. I couldn’t hold it in,” he apologized.

Everyone in the group congratulated me and had a bunch of questions. Dang it Key. This is exactly why I didn’t bring it up.

“It was incredible. I was surprised by how quickly she was able to summon her reiki. And the whole thing was beautiful. The dance. The Reiki aura. Everything,” Key gushed.

“Cool. What did it look like,” Yuta asked looking at me.

“Well, once I started dancing, flames began to come from my arms and when I spread my arms, a gush of wind came from my chest,” I said kind of shy.

“Wow, that’s sounds freaking amazing. I wish I could have seen it,” Yuta says.

“Me too,” Mina says.

“Me three,” Yeri shouts.

“Yeah. I bet it was all cool and she was like….” Jonghyun said while standing up, flailing his arms around wildly, making wind noises. I cannot help but laugh at his goofiness.

“Jonghyun, stop it. You’re being super surplus right now and causing a scene,” Key complains.

“What’s surplus mean,” Jonghyun asks.

“He means you being too much. Surplus is the things left after being used, the remainder,” Mina explains.

“Do you thing those things of me Key, are you serious,” Jonghyun says slightly mad as he begins to stand up.

“Jonghyun, sit down. It’s not that serious. Calm down,” Yeri says petting his head to calm him. He sits and gives Key a mean glare which Key just smirks at.

“Anyway, it would be cool to see your reiki sometime Adajoon,” Mina says trying to refocus the conversation.

“Sure, sounds good to me,” I reply. We continue eating and talking until Yuta notices something.

“Adajoon, don’t look now but I think someone is staring at you,” Yuta says.

“What…,” I ask as I turn around to see who it is. But I wish I didn’t because I end up locking eyes with Minho who is glaring so hard at me that I thought my face would melt.

“Oh, just ignore him. The guy has problems. He has been harassing Adajoon constantly since she started going here,” Key says defensively.

“Yeah, Yuta don’t worry about it. Don’t pay him any attention. I don’t,” I say.

The lunch dismissal bell soon rings and we all leave lunch and head back to our classes. History class continues and ends quickly after lunch, and it was now time for Intro. To Reiki. I was excited about this class because today we were allowed to practice our reiki. I went to the locker room and changed into exercise clothes and sat on the floor and waited for others to arrive and for our instructor to take attendance. As I waited, I listened to some music and searched through my playlist for a song I wanted to practice with. “River” by Bishop Briggs begins to play and I couldn’t fight the urge to sway side-to-side and bop my head to the beat. This song is perfect. Class soon starts and Coach Hirai proceeds to take attendance and explain what we were doing today.

“All right ladies and gentlemen, today will be the first day of the semester that we will be practicing reiki. I am going to play music throughout the class period so feel free to dance to that or if you have your own personal music; you can practice with that too. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask. “

With that, Coach released us to practice. The sound system in the gym started playing a random song and I took this time to stretch. As I finish stretching, “River” begins to play. What a coincidence. I decide to start dancing and feeling out the beat. I start dancing with the same moves I used while practicing with Key and the moves fit the music perfectly. I start to get that special warm feeling flowing through my veins again. I can start to see my reiki radiating from my arms and legs and I feel powerful. With each move, flames fly from my body, and with each turn a twirl of wind is unleashed. As the song ends, my dance ends with wind exploding from my chest in a huge gust.

Adajoon's Dance

After catching my breath for a minute, I notice the gym is completely silent. I look around the gym and every single person is staring at me in amazement. I feel so embarrassed. What happened? Did I do something wrong. Suddenly, I hear clapping from the other side of the room. I look and it’s Coach Hirai. Her applause is soon joined by the applause of other students.

“Wow. Now that’s what I’m talking about. That was incredible Adajoon. I could really see your passion in the dance. And your reiki was so beautiful,” she gushed.

“Really, thank you,” I say still quite embarrassed. Soon I was swarmed by students with a thousand questions. Luckily Coach was able to save me from the crowd.

“Alright, alright everyone. Don’t crowd her. Go back to practicing your own dances.”

The crowd dispersed but there were a few students still around me asking questions. And all the while, I’m receiving death glares from Minho. He looked so angry. I don’t know why but I feel slightly threatened. The music starts to play again the song “Revolution” by Diplo plays. Minho gets up from the wall he was leaning against and starts walking towards the center of the gym. He moves to the beat of the song and sways his body from side-to-side. Then, almost out of nowhere, I begins to do all these flips and turns and spins, and I’m just stunned. His dance looked martial arts based and the reiki aura coming from him was amazing.

With each flips or move of his arms and legs, flames shot out from his movements. After finishing the dance, he smirks at me in a way that says “that’s how it’s done” and he turned and walked away.

I roll my eyes at his dramatics and end up working with other students on their reiki for the rest of class. Once class ends, I shower and put my school clothes back on and head to my last class. As I exit, I accidentally run into Minho.

“Oh, sorry,” I quickly apologize.

“Yeah, you should be,” he spits back.

“What is your problem with me? I have done absolutely nothing to you and you continue to be rude and disrespectful towards me. What’s the deal,” I ask completely frustrated.

“My problem is you coming into this school and acting like you own the place. Just because you have the best grades doesn’t make you special. You are nothing. Stop trying to fit in where you don’t belong. No one cares. I don’t even know why I’m talking to you. I’m wasting my time and I don’t owe you any type of explanation.”

And with that he walked away, leaving me fuming with anger. It took everything for me not the chuck my textbook at his skull and curse at him. But I didn’t want to sink to his level, so I suck up my pride and angry tears and head to class. I enter class and immediately take my seat. I just sit there silently, waiting for class to be over. Key comes over to my desk and sees that I’m upset.

“Adajoon, what’s wrong,” he asks with worry in his voice and on his face.

“Nothing. I really don’t want to talk about it, okay”

“Okay, but if you need me I’m here”

“Thanks Key,” I say with a forced smile.

Class comes and goes and it’s time to head home. The ride home with Key is quiet the whole way. As we pull up to my house and I start to say bye to Key, he grabs me into a hug and rubs my back. I sigh into the hug. It helps me feel a little better.

“Feel better okay. I don’t like seeing you upset. So cheer up my sweet Adajoon,” he says while petting my head.

“Okay, I will,” I say with a slight chuckle.

I leave the car and go into the house. I immediately go to my room and lay down. The words of Choi Minho starting to surface again. The anger within me starts to build again. As I lay there my phone starts to ring. I look at the phone and see Amber calling me. I answer quickly fearing something was wrong.

“Amber, what’s wrong? What’s going on,” I ask panicked.

“Nothing, Taemin and I are just calling to see how you’re doing.”

“Hey Adajoon,” Taemin says cheerfully.

“What the heck you guys, it’s 2 in the morning there and you both have school tomorrow.”

“But we miss you and stuff man, so we decided to call anyway,” Amber says.

“Fine, okay. Just don’t scare me like that; I thought something happened”

“Naw, we’re all good here. What about you? How’s school and family and things,” Taemin asks.

I fill them in on everything that has happened since we last spoke. I told them about classes, the incident with Papa the other night, Nana’s vase that I bought from the antique shop, and more. I also realized that I hadn’t told them about my power but I don’t know if it’s wise to tell them just yet. I honestly don’t think we’re allowed to tell others so I keep those parts to myself.

“So, what about the bullying? Has it finally stopped or do I still need to come to Japan and throw some hands,” Amber asks.

“Most of the bullying has stopped, but there’s still one person that continues to be a complete pain in my ass every day at school.”

“Adajoon, you cursed,” Taemin says shocked.

“Taemin, shut up. She can curse. She’s letting out her frustration. Who is this asshole and what’s his deal,” Amber asks.

“I don’t know. Every time I see him during school, he just glares at me and today I accidentally bumped into him and said sorry and he was like “Yeah, you should be”. So I straight up asked him what his problem was with me and he said quote “My problem is you coming into this school and acting like you own the place. Just because you have the best grades doesn’t make you special. You are nothing. Stop trying to fit in where you don’t belong. No one cares.” And then he said he didn’t owe me an explanation and just walked away.”

“Wow. What a jerk,” Taemin says.

“OOHHHH, ADAJOON. Please let me fight him. Just one time please,” Amber says angrily.

“No, Amber it’s not even worth it. I’m just going to try my best to keep ignoring and avoiding him as long as I can.”

“You’re such a good person. I would have fought him by now. Quick punch to the throat. But I hope things get better. Man… guys suck,” she says.

“Excuse me. As a guy, I’m offended,” Taemin says defensively.

“Well, I’m sorry. You’re just gonna have to be offended. As long as there as guys like Minho out there in the world, the reputation of all guys is tainted. Therefore, you all suck. Every last one of you,” she says as a matter of fact.

“Don’t group me in with those monsters. I’m a sweet young man that knows how to treat a lady,” he says defending his pride.

“Yes, you are Taemin and that’s why we love you,” I say.

“Ewww… Speak for yourself,” Amber says.

“Aww, come on Amber. You know you love me too,” Taemin teases.

“I refuse to admit such things. But whatever. Adajoon, I hope things get better at school,” she says.

“Yeah, remember you always have us on your team,” Taemin adds.

“Aww, thanks. I love you guys”

“We love you too,” they say in unison.

“Well, I’m about to shower and relax after that long day. You two need to go to bed. Okay?”

“Okay,” Taemin says.

“Yes ma’am,” Amber says.

“All right, later guys.”

“Later,” they say in unison again.

I hang up the phone and just lay on my bed for a little bit longer. Before I know it, my eyes start to get heavy and I’m drifting off to sleep. I’m too lazy to fight it so I just let the sleep take over.

I love what i have only in retrospect,

As a fuzzy distant image in my puddles of thought

I tell myself that one day i will try to remember, but i never really look that hard.

As i move into a rppm with secondary light, i try to recall that first lght.

That feeling of warmth that shoots between me and the stars.

Its the same warmth of my housemate making dinner,

The oven warming the house with each impatient peep.

Conversation between childhood friends ebbing and flowing as simply as breathing.

First light of the morning and discussions of coffee shops, mr nice guys bakeshop or walking the dog.

Recently i did a reiki class,

It has gifted me the first light

to feel it again as the present moment.

Now certified in level one, i have permission to perform it on plants and animals.

My housemates dog cowboy doesnt seem to like it though,

But his ears do perk up when i play psytrance or his dad lights a rollie.

So sometimes we wonder of his past lives.

I think of what ill miss when we leave this house, and still feel a bit empty.

I think of following the moonphases as it smiles from the window.

I think of the secret j’s i huffed sitting on the sil on hot nights.

Its a dance with the divine each day,

The extac=sy of all the boring bits of life that I cant help but drown in.

The smell of burnt bread as we resorted to the grill when our toaster gave up on us.

The maggots in the compost bin,

The mice under the fridge.

The shroom trip that started and ended in our palatial backyard.

The clothesline that doubled as a maypole.

The heated bathroom floor that was never used but still i was amazed just to have it there.

The two hanging lamps,

The fertile passionfruit vines.

Fresh picked strawberries

Endless mint and spring onion.

Dog shit compost.

I can put my things anywhere but it will never be here

As someone whos grown up from an ancestry of nomads, i do find it easier than most to move around. Tp not get too attached to one place, one way of life.

Maybe its also the fault of my big three.

But my body finds it weirder to return to a place years later inhabited by the same people than to be at a new place with those same people.

But i dont want to forget this house,

It reminds me how lucky i am to have it to come home to each night, no matter how awful my shift at the pub is.

In all its mouldy, sensorial beauty.

It has gifted me direct light, to shine upon my darkest parts and illuminate a sense of hope and newness I had never felt before.

And a glorious dishwasher .

Why I am absolutely not a fan of Tadachi (Snake) x Ainosuke (Adam). #2

I think he acts like a dog too. - Ainosuke's friends (probably including him) aren't rich. If he didn't skate, he would have rich friends and his father wouldn't have a problem with his Hobbs. If Ainosuke were to bully the skaters, it wouldn't be good for his reputation… In doing so, he clearly subordinates himself, or rather puts Ainosuke one step above himself. And after Reiki emphasized again after his fight against Adam, how much fun skating is (it's not like he's mentioned that a few times before, even before Tadachi), he was finally able to draw the parallel to an Ainosuke, who also had a lot of fun skating.However, I still don't know if he even understood that was responsible for Adam's behavior? otherwise he could have easily apologized for his behavior. Instead, he tells Ranga that he should show Ainosuke his love for skating again and at the end he thanks him for allowing him to be "Ainosuke's dog forever".

Ainosuke: Did you really think I was going to take your collar off? You are my dog for life. Tadachi: Yes indeed.

So, to sum this up:

Tadachi was responsible for Adam feeling alone and wanting to escape the world. It was thanks to him that there were so many injuried people and I wonder if he knew in the end that it was his fault.

Tadachi sees Ainosuke as someone higher up. This can be seen in the choice of Ainosuke's friends, the possible scandal that could arise and the fact that he is happy to continue being Ainosuke's dog.

Instead of racing against Ainosuke, he decides to send Langa ahead. Why? Can't he show him what it's like to love skating?
