Just witnessed several Quakers I’ve known since childhood pull the “Palestinians are Semitic people” card and then try to use their academic credentials to justify this position. Two of them are English professors and were arguing that the etymology of words changes regardless of the history.

One of their goyische friends then argued that antisemitism was coined by Zionists as a means to deflect criticism.

Except every Jew in the comments came in with receipts about the history of the word “antisemitism”, how it was coined, why “Semitic people” is an outdated classification based on pseudoscience, and so on.

The response?

The goyim became openly antisemitic and hostile to their, now former, Jewish friends who were trying to correct them and their misinformed position. All of them started spouting ZOG and Protocols level conspiracy theories wrapped in academic jargon.

I’m flabbergasted.

After the Brant Rosen thing with Quakerism I became aware of the inherit strain of antisemitism within the community, but to actually witness it in people I’ve known since kindergarten? People I know as well informed academics who make reasoned, educated, and cited posts and writings? People I know who have marched, advocated, and fought for various minority groups and their rights?

Oof.

It really shows how much impact antisemitism has on people. It truly takes away morals and ethics to allow such ignorance to come from the mouths/keyboards of such “informed” academics. It makes you abandon all of your principles by openly admitting you’ll listen to every minority group and the hatred and bigotry they experience except Jews.

I went to elementary and high school with everyone involved. I know what morals and principles they were taught. I know the community culture they were raised in.

And it has all been abandoned because it’s in vogue to be antisemitic and justify it in support of “activism”.

But now it’s on FB for all of their friends and family to see, and everyone has screenshots so they can’t dirty delete.

So. I hadn’t heard of greyana until, months ago, some anons on here asked me how I felt about the writer who was allegedly using AI and stealing from my fic, and others, to make their own. I kind of laughed it off then, but then someone sent me the link to Invictus so I checked to see. I read a chapter or so (skipping to when hermione met Tom because that feels like a good measure for a tomione fic) and honestly, I was not impressed. But I also wasn’t sure it was AI, as I know nothing about what AI sounds like. So I just thought, eh, it’s just a bad fanfic, but whatever, to each their own. Moved on. And that may have been the end of it.

however.

I could not escape this fucking fic! I kept seeing it everywhere. Recc’d in these various pockets of the internet. I was in a tomine fb group for a hot minute and i swear a gushing invictus review came up every few days. And every time i thought, am i just lame? Do I not get it? And I’d look at that fic for a minute again and think nope, it’s still not good. Whatever, people can like what they want. Moved on.

however.

I kept hearing shit. Being sent reddit posts where users that were probably bots would praise invictus and compare it to blood and gold and blast my work all in the same sentence. And ugggh did that irk me! You can praise a story without tearing others down! But people usually defended me on Reddit, which was so nice, so I always let it go.

however! it just never ended. I have a TikTok I don’t post on but when I’d get on there it was endless posts about and by greyana. Which, again, fine, people can post what they want. But then one day I changed my username to obsidianpen and I stopped seeing those posts. I thought, how refreshing. But it was because she blocked me. I have never once interacted with her. I’ve never even made a post on TikTok and my account is private. She’s blocked almost every tomione writer. Now why would she do that?

then, most recently, that Reddit post attempting to accuse me of using AI in 2017 lmao. The post was removed but very likely it was greyana.

so, that’s my ‘history’. I’ve never interacted with her and haven’t talked openly about her and her writing until now. Because I am firmly a ‘dont like don’t read’ person. But that’s not what’s happening here. Based on all the evidence (oh - they also posted an ungodly amount of words in a super short time frame apparently, which is also suspicious), greyana is, at best, a super pushy mediocre writer who uses bots and tears down other writers in the fandom. At worst, and which is very likely, she does all the above as well as steals work from others and use AI, then plays the victim when they’re called out.

phew! That was a lot. But there you have it, that’s my experience.

Vincent only really uses Instagram, but is required by the Department to have it private because his human name is legally missing-presumed-dead and his face has a risk of being recognized if someone from his human life stumbled upon his Instagram. Darlin' and Sam don't use any social medias. Darlin' has a Facebook from teenage years, but they deactivated it. But not fully deleted, so they can still be tagged in all the group photos posted to the pack page. In high school, Darlin' was the person who got a lot of unsolicited DMs because they were hot but they hate attention so they blocked everyone but their pack and deactivated. Darlin' reluctantly keeps their Discord for the pack server

David hates social media. He maintains the pack's private Facebook group and Discord server (though the latter is really more Asher's job, David's just in charge) but will not touch anything else. David's favorite social media is YouTube because he can lookup tutorials for anything and not have to ask anyone for help

Milo's a borderline Instagram influencer. He's got a gazillion followers (who all think he's hot, and he is). His Instagram is directly linked to his Facebook, so every picture and caption he puts on IG gets automatically posted to FB too

Marie comments only on Milo's Facebook (she has and kinda uses IG, but doesn't comment). She's the one that will leave the heartfelt comments with "Call me" at the end. She knows that's a meme among younger people that their older relatives leave "what a beautiful couple. Call me" comments, but she does it anyway. And guess what? She does it because it works. Milo👏 is👏a👏Mama's👏Boy👏 and he will call her when she leaves those comments

Asher doesn't use social media much, but is perpetually on Discord. He mods the pack's server, and like 6 others just for fun. He does post lots of pictures of Babe and selfies of the two of them together on the pack's Facebook though

Damien used to get into arguments on Twitter with randos. Huxley thinks it's funny to pull them up from when Damien was a teenager

Huxley was never much into most social medias but I like to think he'd be like that one TikTok dude who pops up on my Tumblr dash occasionally who explains how to do calisthenics and other workout stuff in a really simple, easy, modified way for people who are just getting started. People started following him because he's hot, and then realized he's actually like the nicest dude and doesn't know he's popular

Going to write what I think the million dollar answer 😂. So wThe unliking could have happened before wt even started but it didn’t. The unliking spree just showed us how he seemed guilty of something, and the unfollowing of one of his “conquests” during a troll calling him out was sus. Having his bros involved also sus, having a female in the group S also following his farmhouse conquests also sus. These creeps usually use women to give some form of “trust”to potential victims. Him following the girls on his main IG then transferring to his finsta and then unfollowing them right after taking them to soho also sus.

As I said I know literally nothing. But there are a lot of things that if came out could ruin an actors career especially a C - actor. An A list can have a good pr campaign to brainwash and change the narrative, but c list won’t have the funds.

Deleting hbs, blocking accounts that mention it is alarming! Erasing it seems like there is something bad to hide. Why didn’t he unlike before WT? Did a victim come out and was shushed? Usually when one speaks up it gives others courage, there are powers in numbers.

One of Jared Leto’s victims wrote a post on FB back in 2012, but she didn’t have a voice to be heard until now. Maybe a girl shared her experience with L but didn’t have the following to go viral. FNV is one of 4chans top favorite games and has threads daily and that comes with all it entails. Theres a new huge fallout community critical of Bethesda but for bigotry tinged reasons. Elon Musk and Varg Vikernes (infamous Nordic yt supremacist) have had their inner circles have FNV fans in them that beg them to play it (who else but the unironic Legion/Enclave supporter fanboys also from 4chan) the huge rightwing community on twitter is highly full of Bethesda critical FNV fans and leans all the way to the far right having fans undercover at the irl New Vegas Day convention at Goodsprings irl doing thinkpiece psychoanalysis posts on the left-leaning female fans they talked to there. Chris Avellone now has a ton of white nationalists replying to all his posts on Twitter. SchizoElijah, a YouTuber who started a FNV fandom renaissance snuck sonnenrads and white nationalist memes in his videos and had 100k subscribers at one point. I joined a fb group for the fallout TV series and a guy was spamming gore and scat telling the community “Bethesda fans aren’t real fallout fans” w nazi shit in his bio. I went to No Mutants Allowed and a guy had swastikas in his post sig “ironically”. I’m not even mentioning how many unironic Caesar’s legion roleplay groups ive seen that get way ‘too’ into it

Feels like y his fandom has a severe Nazi problem now and it feels like it’s gone COMPLETELY under the radar to the majority of fans

FTD Deleted Scene

Shoutout to @moonchild-daniella for showing me this but after all this time finally got an answer to where this pic came from.

For those who don't have Instagram the story goes like this:

“In the 1980s co-star Anne Helm opened up her original script that spoke of a complete scene where the Kwimper family decided to skip town because a girl is on her way to get married to Toby Kwimper.” (Fb group ELVIS PICTURES) When Toby mentions Gertrude Patterson and the times tables, that is the girl they are running from. “That’s what happened that night behind the bowling alley with Gertrude. I forgot the nineses.”

The post also included different pictures, some of which I've never seen before when searching for the deleted scene.

Man I wish we still had this whole opening scene. The whole concept of Toby hooking up with Gertrude only to skip town when she wants to marry him is so perfect. If we were able to see this whole scene or at least be able to see the whole script of this scene, it would add so much context to why he doesn't want to get married.

He vaguely mentions being with Gertrude behind the bowling alley but we still have no idea how far things got with them. We can't assume that it's sex simply because that's way too extreme based on what we know about him.

If anyone knows anything else about this or wants to share their own headcanons on what this scene would've meant for Toby's character leave a note down below.

Also this is how the book is different than the movie. To me, to fully understand Toby as a character you need both. The movie relies heavily on Elvis' non-verbal acting. The book on the other hand is directly written in Toby's POV. We understand exactly what he's thinking from moment to moment.

So I was arguing with this person in given fb group about how the animation team erased ueno's role in umi e but she keep saying that because yuuma is content with his role and he likes his colleagues it's okay, I told her that yuuma would never bad mouth the animation team or his colleagues in his interview if he wants to keep working and how the animation team is responsable for adapting the manga but they didn't and she simply deleted her post in the group 😭 see how the given fans don't really care about uenoyama and just blindly praise and love the anime because it's him and not their faves getting ueno's treatment and erased to let the other shine.

So I had a FUN LITTLE DISCOVERY about Facebook today!

So today I decided to go ahead and private as much as my Facebook as possible. Why? Because the less I have to interact with it, the better. Literally the only reason I don't delete it is because I use it to keep in contact with my D&D group who won't use Discord for some cursed reason and I do have some old memories on there with a couple of friends that are nostalgic. And while I was referring to an article which had some steps for how to do so, I came across this little gem:

To which I said, "What do you mean OFF Facebook activity??? What OFF Facebook activity would FACEBOOK be tracking???" So I followed those steps and went in there and pulled up the list of information it had stored and LO and fucking behold! Apparently Facebook has been tracking a BUNCH of shit that I've been doing online EVEN though my Facebook is registered with my old-ass hotmail account and almost everything I do online is through my modern gmail. Also, I VERY INTENTIONALLY don't have FB installed on my phone, so it is VERY much separated from anything I do. And not just my searches, oh no no. It has been monitoring a WHOLE BUNCH of fun stuff including tracking my doordash orders, etsy orders and searches, shopping on zenintcg, the fact that we have insurance through Allstate, even my old fucking HINGE dating profile which I haven't even USED since like 2018 but apparently they've been getting updates on as recently as last year.

Seriously the ONLY thing Facebook should know about on this list is Grand Summoners, because it used to use FB to log in. NOTHING ELSE had anything to do with my hotmail, or FB. This is all information that FB obtained independently without my consent.

SO THAT'S FAN-TUCKING-FASTIC. I'm just... such a fan of that!

Few days ago an admin for the FB acct @Bts_beyond_army or something like that was the name got exposed for being a Tkkr who follows vile jm antis, interacts with all NSFW tkkrs even asked if humanlouvre needs any help because one of her account got suspended and then people wonder why humanlouvre ain't getting suspended like why would she when most of her followers are in fact armys? Like imagine running a BTS FB that makes tags and helps in other projects for boys, who's in a group with 200+ FBS or something being a vile tkkr as well?

A few days ago everyone was like"They're painting tae as villain" when jimin called the guest but as soon as jin teased jimin yesterday it's "Solos don't understand jokes" but no one said the same thing for jm. Even armys made tweets Saying how they're making tae look like he's unwanted and let everyone drag jm.

This is what goes on in Fandom but when you try to voice it out all you get in return is lectures about how those people are not armys those are antis lol. Idk when people are going to be upfront about what goes on in Fandom like every single time when there's a hate campaign against jm it always comes to light because his solo fans report on it. I never got any reports regarding jm first from armys it's always his solo FB (the 3-4 i follow) and then hrs or days later armys make tweet regarding it.

Won't lie but as a jimin bias it definitely feels suffocating in the Fandom. it feels the same as how you always have to trend tags or tag hybe to give jimim bare minimum when he releases music while hybe gives them easily to others. Same with armys you always have to ask them again and again, tag them and then once in a while you'll get them move for jm

Helpless is exactly how I feel too, that’s the perfect way to put it. It’s just so frustrating because I tried REALLY hard to be involved in the ARMY community and just ended up being filled with so much bitterness and resentment. I have no idea how any Jimin biased can stand it there. And I agree with everything you said 100%, always feel free to send me long paragraphs or fandom vents 😭 Going to apologize for this whole essay, but yeah, this last year especially has really killed most of the goodwill I felt towards this fandom.

The last BTS report account was run by a group of TH biased tkkrs and that YoongiPD account who is a YG-diet and JM anti (they “left” being admin at one point, but they were involved) that “Bocia” person if you know who I’m talking about was also involved and they’re a JK-diet and tkkr (idk if they’re still around tbh). This report page followed like seven or so focused report accounts for TH, several for YG and other members and NONE for JM. They ended up setting JM up from info they got from tkkrs on IG and doubled down (after initially apologizing) and all the shooter accounts got super defensive and were backing up this fake info too, it was ridiculous.

I politely asked why they weren’t following any JM protect pages and I got blocked by several of these people and I promise you my account was fully ARMY, no shippers, no diets, no weird victimization posts. It really ticked me off. They had posted who some of the admins were before this and they were literally all just TH diets/tkkrs so it was easy to tell what was going on.

One of them was in a GC where someone was bragging about getting people to drop all the charting songs except for THs and JH’s, they insulted CTT, and were complaining about LC in the US. Again, an admin of that report account was in this GC, but their friends didn’t cancel them. These people always defend each other while being the first to point their fingers at JM biased and jkkrs.

They were all friends with that random tkkr account too who was called out for following a bunch of JM antis and then they were like, “using a unit name doesn’t make you a shipper!” and they and their moots proceeded to spam tkk moments and joke about it. Meanwhile they were spouting tkk narratives and reading tkk fanfic and following actual shippers, making a thousand defense posts for tkk (ofc none for jkk), following and interacting with JM antis, but apparently they’re not a shipper?

This group runs report accounts, shooter accounts, big accounts, chart accounts, meme accounts, update accounts, just whatever, they’re everywhere. And when one of them gets called out they just back each other up. And THAT’S why JM related accounts always face the most scrutiny, because who gets called out is just based on whichever faction is currently running most of the shooter/report accounts and it’s never jkkrs/JM biased.

IDK what happened to that account, it got suspended by boycotters and they remade but I never kept up with them (I just blocked most of those people and moved on tbh). But I KNOW these same people are all over that current protect accounts GCs because if you notice ANY time they call out a tkkr they HAVE to make a report on jkkrs even if it doesn’t make sense, and they always add shady captions. Like what is this lmao???? 😭

They just made up a whole new sentence, the shady admin note, the “TH snatching JK from JM” which is a tkkrs wet dream, pretending that jkkrs are threatened by tkk or something. They deleted the post, and this isn’t the first time they’ve done something super weird like this. And if you want my conspiracy on this, I think it’s because that account had several hit tweets on “why I believe jkk are real” and I fully believe that’s why they were targeted lol. Because choosing that account was so random?

I talked about this in another post but the best way to gain a bunch of followers quickly on ARMYtwt is to get very involved in whatever fandom crisis/drama is going on at the time, such as MHJ/the cult stuff/YG situation/boycott situation. That’s exactly what this report account did, they’re clearly YG biased and suddenly gained 20k followers in a month because they were providing helpful info about that situation. I don’t think they ever revealed their main account and that’s why I’ll never trust these accounts that pop up out of nowhere and suddenly gain mass followings (and they were constantly interacting with a well known problematic YG biased account too). IDK if that account admin is entirely bad or anything, and I appreciated some of their helpful stuff for YG, but I know what their GC is full of at the very least.

Anyways, I sat and watched especially the last few weeks leading up to AYS (and after the first two eps) how the hate for Jimin and Jikook just got SO out of control, just insane, and there were hardly ANY ARMY report tweets for it. The Jimin hate is just so normalized in this fandom, they never move, they’re never surprised or outraged by it anymore. Suddenly TH joins the show and is getting hated on by jkkrs and it was ALL over ARMY twitter. Like my moots who never talk about shipping drama were ratio-ing jkkrs (some of whom were just being shady about him being a guest which is hardly as bad as what they were saying about JM/Jikook). And the fact they were freaking out about flop jkkr tweets with like 500 likes while ignoring all the tkk tweets that had thousands of likes? It was just really frustrating to see the different responses.

And omg yes, the fact that “ARMYs” were literally talking about BH editing the show to be shady towards TH and make him look unwanted was INSANE! They were literally backing up tkk narratives, narratives that have done untold damage towards Jimin for years, and these weren’t tkkrs, these were ARMY accounts! Some that are very active in the community. Why weren’t ARMYs clocking these people? Do they ACTUALLY buy into the whole BH pushes Jikook thing? It’s just so tiring, you’re right. I see BS like this allllllll the time.

But it’s why I just got so mad when ARMYs a few months ago were talking about being BTS’s shield and how they have to protect BTS. It’s this obsession with MHJ or other fandoms, going on and on about how ARMYs are their shield and all this self-righteousness. If they protected BTS then tk-lives wouldn’t have 500k followers. The massive platforms tkkrs have are INSANE and they were just left to grow that big while spewing insane things about Jimin/Jikook (JK too, even TH) for years and years and ARMYs didn’t want to do anything about it, even when their insanity has actually impacted offline, real life stuff. That is the BIGGEST source of danger and damage to the fandom and to the BTS members, not MHJ, not kmedia, not Tokki’s! It’s akgaes and shippers (especially tkkrs). But ARMYs have literally just ignored it for years now?

One example is just straight up how they ignored the role that akages and shippers played in the way Jimin was harassed during FACE era and how all the drags that now get regularly thrown around (SA insults, sleeping with PDs for remixes, tagging Spotify etc) came from SOLOS during FACE era, because they just wanted to blame it entirely on kpop stans. They acted like it came out of nowhere during Seven era and not just that PJMs were parroting exactly what JJKs were saying about JM during FACE era (and I’m NOT justifying PJMs being vile back towards JK. It's just bizarre how many ARMYs were entirely oblivious during FACE era).

Then there’s the whole situation with Jimin’s dad. Literally akgaes and tkkrs started spreading that whole narrative attacking him because of AYS and Who. Kmedia picked up on it, and maybe because of the ongoing smear campaign on BTS they were looking for things to write about, but WHERE do they think that journalist got that info? The way that ARMYs were getting hit tweets blaming it ENTIRELY on MHJ was insanity. They LOVE themselves an easy villain they can rally against, but it almost feels like they straight up cover up for tkkrs and solos sometimes?

If they actually cared about protecting Jimin, wouldn’t they want to go after the original source of that? But no, just wanted hit tweets on MHJ and sensationalizing that because they are OBSESSED with her right now (don’t get me wrong, I obviously hate her too). They’re just so drama addicted, but they never actually care about the BTS members or they would do something about a HUGE source of hurt that’s been there for years. They don’t want to put in the hard work to clean up our fandom, they just want to fight with other fandoms or be loud and feel important, or bury their heads in the sand because they don’t want to deal with this mess.

And you’re right, it pisses me off so bad when you call this out and they’re like “they’re not part of our fandom!”. That's SUCH BS 😭 they ARE part of our fandom, you can’t just wash your hands from the things you don’t like. Literally most of those tkkrs have little sevens, or a lot of solos are ex-ARMYs, or ARMYS follow and interact with them or are diets. How many ARMYs are shippers and read fanfic and AUs and follow duo accounts that are clearly run by shippers? It was ARMYs in line buying that tk fanfiction in Paris. ARMYs make up the following for most of these accounts too. I mean, damn, a big shooter account I saw was exposed for interacting with that Jay/Mina person last year, someone we’ve been asking to report NONSTOP, but no, shippers are totally not part of our fandom right?

I swear I’m not even THAT chronically online lol 😭 but it’s just… hard not to witness this stuff if you’re active in the fandom at all? I mean, maybe it’s just my algorithm on my priv, but it doesn’t take much to see all this going on ESPECIALLY if you’re Jimin biased or a jkkr, if you follow any report accounts at all, so I’ll never understand how some of them are so content in this fandom when to me it’s mostly trash 😭

There are a handful of ARMY accounts I super respect, and I know the twt community and all of this is not always representative of the majority, but pretty much any fandom space you walk into is just full of this kind of stuff and it’s exhausting. You can build yourself a nice little community to have fun and retain your sanity, but if you want to be part of the larger ARMY fanbase? It’s just so toxic and biased. And I’m not even getting into the drama about their solo releases because that is ANOTHER whole thing 😭 there’s also probably a thousand more examples of ARMYs being hypocritical on top of everything you listed too (just remembered the whole situation with that k-fanbase ugh).

Sorry this is so long, just going to quickly throw out that I know ARMYs can be weird to ALL the members, every bias has something legit to complain about, but I just firmly believe that for a few reasons (some of which I’ve talked about here before, like seeing JM as a goalpost, shippers and so on) the fandom has the weirdest attitude towards Jimin. And that’s not to say I don’t call out when ARMYs are being awful to the others either, like it was actually insane and very sad how they treated JK over that post about NewJean’s, the way they hyped up those dating “rumors” about Namjoon and gave hit tweets on that while not supporting his music and so on.

I try not to let all this get to me TOO often because these people spend all their time being manipulative in stan spaces and trying to cosplay and whatever, but look at the actual charts 😭 Jimin has a LOT of support and a LOT of people who love him. Jimin lovers might not be great at cosplaying and manipulating and running ARMY big accounts, but damn they are at least good at streaming and supporting music, and that’s about a thousand times more valuable at the end of the day. Lots of ARMYs just passively interact with fandom and don't see any of this either. And all this stuff just kind of disappears when you logoff, sometimes I give it more importance than it actually holds, but I do find it annoying lol.

It’s definitely exhausting and suffocating though, and it does feel just super helpless in this fandom sometimes like you said. I definitely do not feel any loyalty towards ARMYs at this point. I’m here for Jimin, JK, BTS on my own terms and just follow who I like, I don’t really care about what the fandom at large thinks or any of their projects, and I’m beyond caring about backlash and I’ll just say what I think if people ask. It’s obvious to see why the fandom has deteriorated the way it has and ARMYs have no one to blame but themselves honestly. I just hope things improve when BTS returns.

one of my friends is pretty offline but got big into yo-yoing a while back and so they were on like yo-yo fb groups and forums and they were pretty active and the only online presence they had was about throwing (yo-yo community Perferred Term) and i asked today when we were out to lunch how it was going and they were like “i deleted my account… it was too much for me” and now im like so deeply interested in what they saw in the 6 months they were online in yo-yo groups exclusively.

Sorry if this is a huge downer, but I'm just getting so worried. Are there enough Caryl fans to make AMC listen? In recent years, FB has become more of a hub for younger men 25-34 and also 18-24 and unfortunately they’re more likely to have biases against a romantic relationship like Caryl’s. That could be one of the issues you’re running into.

I’ve also talked before about how Caryl fans are retreating to more private corners of the internet or avoiding online spaces altogether because of increased bullying, but to address your concern about the GA, I think some are having a harder time recognizing the romance that we know was written into the show early on because of how much Gimple pulled back on their arc and how much AMC pulled back on marketing them (for reasons that had nothing to do with the story or with changes in the market, I will add 🤨)

The good news I suppose is it all comes down to target audience. It’s better to have 2 million guaranteed fans who will follow you to the ends of the earth than 4 million wishy washy fans who won’t guarantee viewership and take A LOT more effort to market to.

The marketing for S2 of le spinoff is most definitely aimed at Carylers, so AMC knows there’s a lot to be gained from their viewership. I just think with the damage S1 is doing and the gaslighting from actors and EPs on top of the mistrust from ruining S11 and the original spinoff, they’re going to need to hit a lot harder and soon.

While S10 aired, the Caryl fandom was booming and once the spinoff was announced, we were like weeds that wouldn’t stop growing (I started my blog a month after the announcement). They were the runner-up in TV Guide’s best endgame ship poll, they made Tumblr’s top 100 list, the social media manager for Skybound at the time said the Caryl engagement beat other TWD ships by miles. I think we can get that energy back, but Caryl fans 👏 need 👏 fuel. We need to feel validated for shipping them.

I completely understand feeling like no one is listening, so my advice is keep reminding them that you’re here. Keep being vocal about what you want and what you'd pay for. I know what I'd pay for…👀

I’ll be honest I don’t know what social media to use for what anymore. I decided, with 3 days left before it got permanently deleted, to keep fb for a little longer because we are moving this spring and I will need the Buy Nothing group to get rid of and maybe acquire some stuff for the new place. Buy Nothing has its own app, but no one seems to be using it in my area. I’ve tried to get back into ig for friends-only posting photos of my kid and life stuff, but the experience is somehow worse than fb these days, it’s just sooo many ads. I don’t want to post my art on meta platforms anymore. Bluesky is confusing my old lady brain bc I never used Twitter, and also has no friends-only features. And frankly, I don’t want to download any new apps anymore, unless I hear of one that sounds really good! I post some photos of my kid here with the reblog function off, but idk how I feel about it as a regular thing bc it isn’t friends-only. Like for real I just take a photo and text it to the people now, idk what to do anymore. I think we are all kinda outgrowing social media??

LMAO okay unfortunately I am of two minds about this.

On the one hand, yeah, I think we absolutely need to put pressure on the companies who are bending the knee to Trump. Cancel Amazon Prime (or stop buying from Amazon entirely), don't buy a fucking Tesla, stop buying Coca-Cola products, etc. All of these are good things to do, because the only thing that talks in this country is money. If you refuse to give them your money, it forces them to actually listen to you. Nothing else matters.

On the other hand, while I fully support people deleting all their Meta/X accounts, I also understand people staying (and full disclaimer, I'm one of them). The left is fractured enough as it is, and there's already (and always has been) tons of infighting. Social media is an easy place where we can organize. If the left leaves those apps en masse, cool, but then how do we organize? How do we find like-minded people? How do we do mutual aid? Obviously, yes, a lot of that can be done IRL, but that isn't accessible to everyone. There are disabled people or people who live in rural communities whose only connection to left-leaning groups might be by finding them digitally. You didn't ask about this, but I also have these same feelings about people who are like "I'm going to bury my head in the sand for the next 4 years and not read any news and protect my mental health." Cool, fine, but what happens to us if the entire left does that? We just check out for 4 years and do nothing and refuse to stay informed while the right runs amok? Idk man. I have mixed feelings about all of it and no good answers.

Although yeah everyone flocking to Red Note is very funny 😂 Censorship is bad, obviously, and the US shouldn't ban social media sites, but also you can't live without video content??? Please use your brains and read words sometimes, I'm begging you.
