Gavin’s love language edition!

•Gavin's love language is physical touch. He’s never been shy when it comes to expressing gratitude for his family, but when words fail him, he prefers to show his love physically.

↓ Here are the ways I think he shows that! ↓

⤷ Freelancer: Kisses. All kinds of kisses. Anywhere and everywhere. Whether its a chased kiss in a crowded room, or a long sensual one when its just the two of them, Gavin is obsessed with kissing them.

⤷ Huxley: Hugs. Gavin will just randomly go up to Huxley and hug him. Sometimes he’ll stand behind him with his arms around his shoulders and watch what he’s up to for a bit.

⤷ Damien: Physical closeness. Gavin will sit right next to Damien and rest his leg next to his so they're touching, or, he'll put his arm around the back of the couch. He likes to be close, but still knows to give Damien his space.

⤷ Lasko: Laying on each others laps. It typically starts with Lasko making a reference to a movie that Gavin doesn't get, which then leads into a Lasko Ramble™ about said movie. Gavin eventually gives in with one caveat: He'll watch, as long as he gets to play with Lasko's hair.

⤷ Dear: Hand holding. Dear and Gavin will sometimes absentmindedly grab the other’s hand when they want to get their attention. FL and Lasko find it so endearing that their safe spaces are this gentle with one another.

⤷ Extra: Occasionally the gang will all get together and just cuddle to decompress after a long day. Huxley typically falls asleep first and everyone just kinda finds their place around(or on top) of him.

A short Jessica fic

(Yes Jessica the side character that helped 17 year old Lasko)

“Hey, I’m back. Sorry about the wait the line at the cafe was exhausting long-“

As Jessica set her coat down, she sees the sleeping teenager on her couch, curled up in his hoodie, glasses crooked on his face. On the coffee table in front of him was the teen’s phone, a pen, and a bunch of papers.

She smiled a little at the sight.

“Paper work must’ve really tired you out, huh?”

She sets the takeaway bag the brought on the coffee table before moving closer to the kid on her couch. She kneels down to get a better look at his sleeping face, and gently removed his glasses, setting them down gently.

Jessica didn’t consider herself much of a mother figure. She didn’t have kids, wasn’t considered much of a ‘mom friend’, and particularly liked having fun with only having the basic worries of “do I have enough money for this?”.

But when a lost air elemental approached her for help, it just felt wrong for her to decline. She took him to the department, introduced him to DAMN, and allowed him to stay at her place until he had everything sorted. And as the days went on, she started to feel a connection with the kid. Was it motherly? She couldn’t say for herself. But she just knew that she couldn’t abandon him.

Jessica sorted the paperwork into a neat pile and set it into a file that was with it. Using her powers, she opened one of her cupboards and pulled out a blanket, draping it over the sleeping teenager on her bed.

She reached out and pulled the blanket just a bit higher before resting her hand on his head.

“…You’re going to do great things, Lasko. Your parents might not have seen it…you might not see it…but I do.”

Jessica slowly stands and grabs the takeaway bag, moving towards the kitchen. She turns back one last time.

“…Rest well, kid.”

Dear has a very calm energy about him. From years of having to learn to be quiet, he now finds comfort in his own silence

Dear has a pretty bad fear of getting shots but having Lasko around for when he does his hormone shots helps. His hands squeezing Dears knee as he helps guide him to the right spot to prick

Post top surgery when Dear was still being affected by the anesthetics, he was shamlessly flirting with Lasko and Gavin both (Gavin & Damien went to the hospital with him and Lasko)

Dear loves going shirtless/open top as often as possible. It's not only a fashion statement but an excuse to see his man blush, and he will never miss that opportunity. He also likes taking the time to appreciate finally feeling comfortable in his body

Dear takes Gavin on thrifting dates, and they essentially play dress to impress with each other. Gavin always manages to make Dear look like he just walked off the cover of vogue, and Dear makes Gavin look like a pop fashion model

Lasko isn't allowed on these outings any more (affectionately) he gets a bit to distracted by his boyfriend and Gavin trying on clothes

On days that Dear is having bad dysphoria, Lasko makes an extra effort to throw small compliments his way throughout the day. Small things like "thank you handsome" when he helped with something, or "there's my man" when walking into a room

Dear often stands in for models for Freelancers work (they design dresses in my headcanons) and he usually gets to keep any first draft dress designs FL makes

Dear and Lasko went to a pride event together and had their respective flags represented by various pieces of jewlery and clothing

The most common thing, dear, does that a seemingly small self affirming action is wearing masc formal wear to work. Stuff like dress pants, vests, button ups, dress shoes, etc.

He smacked a transphobe once when he was attending McKinley, and nobody tried to start arguments with him after that

Dears go to movie when hes resting during shark week, or just feeling bad in general, is My Neighbor Totoro. The usual set up is a bowl of Ramen, his shark plushie heating pad, and cuddling with Lasko

• Various members of the Shaw Pack are fans of the Telltale games. Ash and Milo previously played The Wolf Among Us together while in college. They invited David who wasn’t super interested at the time.

• Once a week for a few months, the Shaw Pack would get together and play through The Walking Dead: The Game. Clementine was declared the pack’s baby and by the end of Episode 5, there was not a single dry eye in the house.

• Angel, Baaabe, Sweetheart, and Sam all have a Stardew Valley world together.

-Angel runs that world like a tight ship. I’m talking spreadsheets, notebooks, a chest in every villager’s house with favored items, the whole shebang.

-Baaaabe and Sweetheart go mining together and will sometimes end up accidentally blowing up either one or both of themselves with bombs.

-Sam’s the fisherman. He finds it peaceful, though sometimes his mic picks up his furious clicking. If he’s not fishing, he’s foraging or tending to the crops/animals. He’s always the first one out the door to pet all the animals every day.

• Darlin’s not much of a gamer, but they like watching Sam play with the other mates. On a quieter night when Darlin’ doesn’t have a gig, they’ll shift and lay around on the couch, watching Sam’s little character run around. They let out a little huff of playful fake jealousy every time Sam gives a gift to a villager. This is usually met with a chuckle and head scratches.

• Lovely likes playing indie games. Hades, Hotline Miami, Undertale, Limbo, Hollow Knight, Mouthwashing. Their current fixation is Balatro and right now, they’re playing through Spiritfarer with Vincent. Eventually, they plan to get Vince to play It Takes Two and Split Fiction with them.

• Damien is not much of a gamer, but he is an enjoyer of soulslike games. He’s also a bit of a completionist. So far he’s 100% on Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1&2, and Lies of P. He’s currently playing Sekiro and plans on playing Black Myth: Wukong after finishing Sekiro.

- Huxley once asked Damien why he liked the soulslike games and Damien told him they were relaxing. That was probably the first and only time Hux has ever looked judgmental of him.

• Dear and Freelancer play Schedule 1 together. They frequently delight in giving their products the most unserious names. Freelancer’s the grower/cooker, Dear is the dealer (and also the one who goes around punching cops and then riding away on their skateboard cackling evilly). Without consulting each other, they both inadvertently went with v-neck, jorts, and sandals for character creation and brush out into laughter when they saw each other.

• During Damn Crew hangouts, Gavin once commented on their lack of diversity in games they play. In response to that, Lasko found and purchased an Xbox 360 with Kinect and now game night also come with a delightful Just Dance 2022 portion of the night. You’ve never seen 6 adults lock the fuck in so quickly.

• Speaking of Lasko, now that he’s gotten more confident in himself, that’ll sometimes come out in games, but very specifically, in Overcooked. He makes the gameplan in his head and he’ll assign people to specific positions and make them make plenty of dishes beforehand, knowing the timer doesn’t start until they start serving.

• Hush LOVES the Pokémon Games. He saw Doc’s GBA sitting on a bookshelf and asked them about it one day. Doc spent the rest of the day explaining (read:gushing) the world of Pokémon and teaching him the basics of Pokémon Emerald. Hush’s favorite Gen 3 starter is Mudkip. (Not biased :3)

• David, Christian, and Arden play Apex together. David’s a Bloodhound/Pathfinder player, Christian’s an Octane/Mirage player, and Arden’s a Wraith main.

• Ollie once tried Genshin Impact for 20 minutes and then uninstalled. He didn’t like it. He felt it was too much like Breath of the Wild. He did like Kaeya’s design though.

• Elliott plays the Assassin’s Creed series. He really liked Black Flag and Odyssey. He refuses to engage with the AC fandom because he finds it toxic and annoying and it’s much more enjoyable when he doesn’t have people whining in his ear about how awful it is.

• Lasko once left The Stanley Parable open overnight and came back super late after work to find an achievement he was never expecting to get.

• Anton plays the Sims every so often where he’ll build his and Love’s dream house and has them living together in it.

• If there’s a game with in-depth main character creation, Elliott spends a lot of time trying to recreate Sunshine in those so he can have them with him on his adventures. Sunshine finds it a little weird to see themselves on screen, but they also find it endearing to see how much attention and care Eli puts into it.

• Milo plays scary games even though he hates them because he knows what kind of awful shit Sweetheart sees on a day to day basis and watching him freak out for a couple of hours is fine with him if it gets their mind off things. Sweetheart also gets a little freaked out by these games, but they’re better at hiding it. Milo’s reactions and commentary keeps them cool and grounded.

• Baaabe has a switch and plays the Yakuza games on it when they cuddle with Asher. Ash loves to feel how engrossed they get in the game when they clutch his fur in shock or they actually sit up and show him the screen, going “Babe, can you believe this??” to which he’ll give a sniff of disbelief, even if he doesn’t really know what’s going on.

• Blake plays rhythm games. Or, I guess, played. Not much time for Osu with a very present being in your head.

• Aaron is just a tetris god??? He’s really good at tetris. His 40 line clear is 0:54.

-This isn’t a headcanon, I just feel the need to share this with you guys, I was looking up the WR on 40 line clear to make sure I wasn’t being super egregious about how fast Aaron could clear it and the WR is 13.650 SECONDS? I am a former Tetris enthusiast and that processing speed is absolutely insane to me.

• Dear is the best at Wordle, Connections, and the Crossword. So far, they have a 72 day streak, with Huxley at 41, and Lasko at 39.

• Guy hates horror movies and Honey is ok with them, the same thing happens with video games. However, Guy’s able to handle it a little better when he watches Honey play horror games. He still gets grossed out by all of the gratuitous gore. When Honey began switching up tactics throughout the current game, he questioned why their playstyle was changing so drastically repeatedly and was absolutely horrified to find out that the Xenomorph’s AI learned from how the player played.

• David and Milo hate Back 4 Blood. (;-;) Asher was fine with it, but they just couldn’t get with the deck system and found it too bloated and unmanageable. They enjoyed the simplicity of shoot zombies.

Wrote this fluff out of spite, since the fandom likes to keep reminding me that Gavin will outlive the DAMN crew:

Gavin and Freelancer always knew kids were off the table. No big decision, it just wasn't for them.

But when Huxley and Damien finally get through the adoption process and introduce a shy but sweet little girl to 'Uncle Gavin'...well, Gavin feels that tug at his heart much more than he expected.

When Lasko and Dear bring home baby twins, Uncle Gavin feels that heart-tug again as they learn to walk, and start walking towards him.

His found family is expanding, growing, and he's so honored to be a part of it. He and Freelancer gush and coo over their niblings, and love them more than anything.

The Crew all stay in Dahlia. It's their home, it's their family. As they age, Gavin and the kids all help out in caring for them. One by one, Gavin says goodbye to his original found family. Eventually, he says goodbye to the love of his life.

But he's never alone. Uncle Gavin is always surrounded by his friends' children. And they live on through them.

Huxley and Damien's daughter has drive, ambition, and the kindest heart. Lasko and Dear's twins have soft voices, generous souls, and a surprisingly subtle mischievous streak.

Eventually, these kids all find partners, friends, and families of their own. And every time, he is introduced as 'Uncle Gavin'.

He's a fixture in all their lives throughout the generations. As people come into the fold, they explain to newcomers that Uncle Gavin always has been and always will be there.

And more often than not, he'll catch glimpses of his first family. Someone will have Damien's laugh or Freelancer's wit, Huxley's empathy or Lasko's intuition, or Dear's sense of humor.

He misses his first found family, his partner, and will for as long as he exists. But surrounded by the legacy of the love they all shared, Uncle Gavin knows that they will always be with him.
