Please.
Take a seat.
And let me tell you about HROSE CAMP (by @legendlarkpod )
I am. Obsessed. Ainsley, The Gap and Postminger are the most perfect toxic girlbossing little bully horse girls (gender neutral). Literally only flaw is that their horses were never described but I will forgive it this time. And yes i know there was a whole bit about how they wear boots but i like my hobbits freaky and barefoot!!

Waitaminute. Ainsley and the Gap introduced Postminger to 'how cool and hot' Torvah is and that led to the Postmingers withdrawing their support of the Maddrean Queenship?? Corbin and Fran were right about needing to kill Ainsley and the Gap! Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
LOOOL much to think about 🤔
I think I had planned that Postminger's family was already pro-Torvah (Antone doesn't have a lot of sway in their family anyway) but this is really fucking funny so feel free to headcanon that

the gap is agender
he used he/him bc he simply did not care and then took they/them bc he wanted to match ainsley (still does not really care! just with two sets of pronouns now)
similarly, ainsley started using he/him a lil bit bc the gap and antone both use he/him
antone likes an even distribution of pronouns, ainsley prefers they/them with a little he/him thrown in now and then for flavor, the gap would neither notice nor care if you used one set of pronouns for them forever or if you changed pronouns every time
the gap, slake, and ainsley were a friend group for like. a week or two before ainsley "went away to horse camp indefinitely." it was mostly slake and ainsley and then ainsley and the gap
ainsley knows ALL the tricks for washing clothes. a stain??? on THEIR hoodie?? it's less likely than you think
antone's pretty good at manipulating people, but it varies wildly based on how confident they are and how much pressure there is on them to do it successfully
ainsley knows that the gap's parents are dead. the gap also knows, really deep down, but has repressed it so hard they've convinced themself that his parents are still alive. ainsley goes along with it bc they don't want to make the gap sad and like, it's fine, they're doing fine, so what does it matter?
ainsley, the gap, and antone were all weird kids who went through a bunch of hobbies to try and entertain themselves, but they all went in different directions + some of those skills stuck better than other
the gap is a very kind person but also kind of mean. ainsley absolutely enables this behavior
ainsley and the gap threaten murder for each other all the time (they couldn't actually COMMIT any murder. but they'll threaten it). some of it is lighthearted, like "the sun's hurting your eyes? i'll kill it" and some of it is more intent (like in chapter one LKSDFJ:SFJ)
antone is new so they're not as ride or die yet but i think the gap would eventually threaten murder for antone, who would secretly be touched by it
whenever ainsley, antone, and the gap hold hands the gap HAS to be in the middle or he gets sad

AT LAST, THE TRIFECTA IS COMPLETED!!! Ainsley, Antone Postminger, and The Gap from Hrose Camp Adventures! Yes, Hrose.
I updated Antone's art a bit before sending off the print of them for @legendlarkpod's Q3 Patreon mail. Had a lot of fun coordinating these two punk halflings and this fancy human, trying to make sure their styles came across strongly while also tying them together as group.
You can buy the print bundle at legendlark.store!

Ainsley and The Gap are pronoun vampires. They absorb the pronouns of whoever they're close to the longest. It's why their pronouns were never specified when they first appeared, why they were referred to as they/them while hanging out with Slake, and why they're slowly becoming he/theys due to their proximity to Postminger.

little hrose camp fic snippet
“Of course you have blue hair and pronouns,” The Gap scoffed.
“What??” Antone replied, baffled. “What does that mean? You have pronouns too?? Most people do, in fact. And what does my hair have to do with anything?”
They ran their fingers through their pomp, but didn’t feel anything wrong with it. It was a little crunchy — he would have to speak with Navy about getting some other product for it; his hair should be soft and luxurious! — but not anything that should truly be noticeable, much less outright objectionable.
Ainsley snorted. “Okay, liberal.”
“What’s a liberal??” Antone demanded, confusion swiftly tumbling into anger, especially when The Gap started chortling.
“You got ‘em, Ainsley!”
Both of them refused to explain any further.

Finally sharing the design of Juniper's character, Ainsley, I did for the summer mail for $15 supporters on Patreon! Now u know why Slake simped so hard for them. 😔 Ainsley is a rude teen, full of powerful energies. Any resemblance they happen to bear to any other halfling characters I've designed for LegendLark is entirely coincidental, I assure you. >> You can experience the pleasure of listening to Juniper as Ainsley in our Hrose Camp Adventures arc on @legendlarkpod!

ao3!
The door dings cheerfully as Ainsley strides into the shop. The Gap is swift at their heels, like always.
It's nicely decorated, with bright colors, plants, and a variety of seating options. It's clean and well-lit and the food cases are beautifully organized. Macarons are lined up in a rainbow, neatly stacked against one another, and The Gap can just see cartons of pearls and jelly behind the counter from where they're standing. There are only two workers, one making a tea while the other rings up the customer in front of them. Ainsley's standing behind them, staring at the menu, and The Gap files behind Ainsley.
The customer finishes paying and receives their drink. Ainsley steps forward, not looking at the worker even as they greet them. The Gap feels a little bad, so they lean around Ainsley and wave to them.
"Hi!"
The worker — Sunny, she/they, their nametag reads — smiles at them. "Hello! Welcome to Tea-rrific!"
"Thank you!"
"Gappppppp," Ainsley whines. "I don't know what to getttttt."
The Gap hums and looks over the menu. It'd been a while, but they'd been here before, so if they could remember what Ainsley had gotten last time... oh! There! "How about honeydew milk tea?"
Ainsley does a sighing little hum. "I don't know... what if I don't like it?"
"You could always get strawberry?" The Gap offers. "But, I mean, you got that the last few times we came here."
"Strawberry's so basic, though..." Ainsley sighs. "And, like, did I? I literally don't remember ever coming here in my entire life."
"Yeah!" They don't come often enough for The Gap to really recognize the workers or anything, but they remember— "We sat on that loveseat and you almost spilled your cup over it, remember? And then you were worried they were gonna kick us out since you'd almost damaged their furniture?"
Ainsley snaps their fingers. "That's right! Oh my god, I remember now." They turn to Sunny. "Can I get a honeydew milk tea with strawberry pop pearls and extra sugar, please?"
"Sure!" She taps on a tablet, logging the order. "Will that be all?"
"Yeah."
"Alright!" Sunny reads off the total and Ainsley pays as the other worker begins making the drink. Ainsley takes a step to the side and pulls a green straw from the cup of them on the counter. "And for you?"
"Hi!" The Gap tells her. "Can I get a taro milk tea with coconut jelly, please? With less sugar?" They point to the little sign beside the straws, which lists how one can customize the amount of sugar in their drinks.
"No problem!" Sunny taps on the tablet. "Anything else?"
"A chocolate macaron and a strawberry one, please!"
They nod, tapping a few more times before they read off the total. The Gap reaches into their pocket and pulls out some cash, counting out what they need and handing it to her.
There's no one else in line, so The Gap shuffles closer to Ainsley just because they want to, rather than to get out of anyone else's way. Ainsley's gotten their tea now, and turned to lean against the counter and survey the seating options as The Gap gets their stuff. They get a green straw to match Ainsley, and thank Sunny as she hands them their macarons and tea.
"Have a tea-rrific day!" they tell them.
"Thanks, you too!"
"Thank youuuu," Ainsley calls, and grabs The Gap's wrist — carefully, since they're holding macarons — and pulls them over to a high-top table with cushions on its chairs. They set their drink down to hop up on their seat, and The Gap follows suit. They both unwrap their straws and hover them over their cups.
"Threetwoonego!"
They slam their straws down and sip their teas. Ainsley just barely finishes first, throwing their arms up and screeching in victory. The Gap pouts a little, but they're grinning too widely to even pretend to be upset by their loss.
"So?" they ask. "How is it?"
"Delicious. Thank you, The Gap, I don't know what I do without you."
"Me neither!" The Gap beams at Ainsley. "I love you!"
"I love you too."
The Gap leans over to give them a forehead kiss, but the table is wide enough that they can't reach sitting down. And the seats are high enough that trying to give Ainsley a kiss standing next to them would still be annoying to stretch up and do, so they clamber over the table — just a little bit! — to reach Ainsley.
"Mwah!"
"Awwww, The Gap..." Ainsley delicately kisses The Gap's cheek. They immediately look away and take another sip of their tea, cheeks dusting over with pink. The Gap beams again and sits back in their chair.
They pull their macarons out of the wrapper and hand the strawberry one to Ainsley. They break the chocolate one in half and Ainsley does the same with the strawberry, and they switch halves. They eat in silence; Ainsley is still a bit flustered and The Gap is happy to just sit with them.
After the macarons are gone, The Gap silently offers their cup to Ainsley and they switch cups, trying each other's drinks. Ainsley's is pure tooth-rotting sweetness, and The Gap wrinkles their nose a bit. There's a reason they'd asked for less sugar in their tea.
Ainsley smacks their lips thoughtfully. "Like... it's pretty good, but it could be, like, a bit sweeter." They hand The Gap's drink back, and The Gap passes theirs back to them, laughing.
"Yours is pretty sweet, Ainsley!"
"I know, right?" Ainsley sounds almost proud of it as they take a sip of their tea, humming happily at the taste. The Gap laughs fondly.
The door dings as another customer comes in, and The Gap remembers there are other people here besides themself and Ainsley. They're almost startled by it, and a little embarrassed at being startled, and suddenly uncomfortable here.
"You wanna go?" they ask Ainsley, looking over at the door and back to them. "We can check out the other shops."
"Sure." They hop down from their chairs, and The Gap gathers their trash and throws it away.
The door dings as they leave, like it's telling them goodbye. The Gap hums back, feeling more settled with Ainsley by their side. They lace their fingers with Ainsley's and squeeze lightly, and Ainsley squeezes back, and they're out of there.
