Synopsis ~ reaching for the same book & studying together

You scan over the selection of books in the M-P section looking for a specific book. “Hmmm Medicine Oxford textbook… no ugh where is it?!” You think to yourself worrying, the library closes in half an hour. You don’t have much time to check it out. You glance at the top shelf and spot it “ Ahh, Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy! Here it is!” You say softly aloud. Standing on the tips of your toes you try reaching the book but you just can’t reach it.

“Who the fuck put it on the top shelf out of reach?!” You think to yourself. Looking around you spot a stepping stool. “Perfect” you think, picking it up and placing it in front of the shelf. You step up and reach for the book in the same instant you feel a hand brush against yours. Your heartbeat begins to race when you feel his hand slide down to your wrist before letting go. You step down and turn to look and see a guy with a mullet and glasses.

“I need that book” he says looking down at the book in your hands and back up at you. “I need it to study!” you reply back. “Then we have no choice but to study together. The library is about to close” he says. You nod your head in agreement. You finally get a better look at him and he’s quite taller than you and very attractive. He has a small stack of books in his hands. He has a book on cycling, Textbook of Medical Physiology & Prescription Drugs “interesting choices” you thought to yourself.

You both find a table in the back of the library behind a large shelf. You open the book and begin taking notes, sharing it with the boy with glasses. After fifteen minutes of sharing the book you notice he fell asleep. You gently pull his glasses off so he doesn’t damage them while napping. He looked tired so you decided to let him sleep. As sleeping beauty found himself in a deep slumber you take over writing his notes not wanting him to miss out on the study material. You didn’t notice how tired you were until you started nodding off.

“ Five minutes won’t hurt” is the last thought you remember having before you’re being shaken awake. “Hmm, five more minutes!” you say, and continue to sleep. Until you’re shaken awake again “what is it?” You ask, rubbing your eyes you fully grasp the situation when you can’t see anything in front of you. “It’s so dark in here” you say. “The lights are out genius … ” he says. You would’ve given him a side eye but you can’t even make out his face with how dark it is. “Oh really didn’t know” you reply, rolling your eyes although he can’t see your expression.

“Do you think we are locked in?” He asks. “Probably” you responded. He turns on the flashlight on his phone while putting his glasses back on. “Follow me” he says while gathering his books. You follow behind him and he heads to the counter dropping the unchecked out books off. Heading towards the door he pushes it and it doesn’t budge. You watch as he tries to unjam the door by slamming the side of his body against it but once again it doesn’t budge.

He reaches at the top of the door searching if an extra key is left anywhere but he turns up empty. “What do we do now?” You ask. “Study,” he says. “Seriously?! We should find the light switch” you say. You walk around looking for a light switch but every one you found and flipped didn’t work. “There must be a main switch” he says, making you sign aloud. “Looks like we are stuck here till morning” you say.

“What’s your name?” You ask. “Jay Jo” he replies. “ Jo like Mahon Jo, the late legendary cyclist?! Are you related?!” You ask. You watch his eyes go wide hearing the name “How did you know?!” He asks. “The shared last name and the cycling books gave it away” you say. “Also you look like him when you smile. I used to attend a few of his races when I was little. My dad was a huge fan.” You say hoping you don’t sound weird.

Luckily he takes the compliment well and you see a small smiling forming on his face. He randomly pulls out a lollipop with a lime green wrapper offering it to you. “Here~” he says. “What’s this for?” You ask while unwrapping it and popping it into your mouth. “An apology fo-“ “ARFGH” you interrupt him spitting out the lollipop. “WHAT FUCKING FLAVOR IS THIS?!” You shout. “Shhh we are in a library and wasabi flavored” he replies.

“Who the fuck eats wasabi lollipops?!” You ask feeling your tongue on fire. His only response was the sound of him trying to stifle his laughter. “Oh so you find my misfortunes funny?!” You ask, looking at him. He shakes his head putting his hand in his pockets. “No, we should sleep until morning, it's not like we’re getting out” he says. You mod your head in agreement and follow him back to the table you both left earlier.

He pulls out his chair, taking his jacket off placing it in his lap and leaning his head back against the wall. You pull your chair beside him and try to get comfortable leaning your head on the table. After he notices you adjust your position a total of five times he offers his shoulder for you to use. Taking him up on his offer and closing your eyes you can feel him place his jacket over your chest. He was thankful you couldn’t see his face because his cheeks were a bright pink shade. After the heat in his face finally cooled he slowly fell into a deep sleep.

Tagging: @ravenwritten while I'm still hesitant to write for the characters that are canonically taken or in love, I can at least post flag check for you bae! There's not many Hummingbird posts here anymore, it seems.

Jay Jo - GREEN FLAG

Jay's ideal type of partner is Shelly Scott, his canonical girlfriend.

While Jay, at first, gave off lot of red flag vibes — he's actually huge green forest.

Jay might be having hard time to express his feelings through words, which has led to many misunderstandings, but his action speaks for him.

Jay values trust in the relationship and doesn't seek unnecessary drama. Even though his loyalty was doubted, at some point - he's very loyal to Shelly.

Even though many people accuse him of not knowing how to set boundaries with girls, Jay has proved them opposite. When Noah kept bothering him, even "living" outside of his house just to get him to agree to have rematch, even stalked him and etc, Jay threatened her that he'd report her to police, he also showed it clearly that he was uncomfortable with her behavior multiple times. So, Jay did set boundaries with another girl, it just wasn't respected.

He's known for being bit tsundere type, according to Shelly. He rarely smiles, doesn't speak much, isn't good with words which has caused problems in his life when it came to friendships and relationship. For example, when Minu confronted Jay about Mia's picture, Jay couldn't explain himself — Vinny was the one who did it for him. He couldn't properly explain his feelings for Shelly, but as time passed, he learned to be more expressive with words.

Jay also is emotionally aware of others, which is huge win in person. For example, when Shelly and him were leaving Japan and he saw how upset Shelly was, he immediately figured out it wasn't only because of the accident that happened with Noah, but something deeper that bothered Shelly personally.

After coming to Korea and him finding free time from training, he immediately wanted to check up on Shelly and he did. Because he knew she was upset about something and he was worried about her. 100% green flag behavior.

After winning the semifinals, Jay praised Shelly for her hardwork, told her that her plan worked out well and she was the biggest reason why they won. Because he knew Shelly was feeling inferior to rest of the team.

He's genuinely concerned about the safety of his partner, which is adorable. But at the same time, he doesn't suffocate his lover by constantly being worried and places his trust in them.

This is also same man who ran kilometers with his bike in dangerous areas just to kiss and confess to Shelly.

He's working on his flaws, like his communication issues so the mentioned issues in his relationship significantly decreased!

Dom Kang - YELLOW FLAG.

Now you'd ask me why I think Dom is not fully green flag.

First lemme say that Dom is truly good person at heart and he now has strong morals that he stands by. But in relationship, some of his behavior can be considered bit harmful.

Dom loves spending time with Yuna Yoon, the girl he loves and adores, but at the beginning of the manhwa, he has showed few obsessive behavior and appeared very delusional when it came to Yuna — believing that getting punched by her meant love because, as he said, "love hurts." He kept pushing even when Yuna told him to get lost. Even though he hasn't really made her uncomfortable, his behaviourism does point out some of his red flags — even small ones.

Another example is when he thought that Aria Choi had crush on him (she didn't). Even though Aria didn't have crush on him, he thought that she had and somehow, that didn't bother him despite being in love with Yuna. He even said that Aria having crush on him made his heart skip a beat, which resulted in getting beaten up by Yuna and then having his head shaved by Owen. This clearly enlightens boundary issues.

Though, that doesn't mean Dom is unloyal to Yuna. He has showed lots of reasons why we can assume that he'll be loyal. He hasn't flirted with any of the girls except Yuna, he hasn't looked at any other girls with romantic eye except Yuna. Let's take Momoko, for example, TJ and manyyy guys were in love with her and some even lusted after her. But you can clearly see Dom wasn't interested in her at all. Dom also hasn't showed romantic interest in Aria, but simply caution because Aria was from Choi family.

Dom has proven that he would not hesitate to punch or even almost murder someone for Yuna, emphasizing his devotion for her.

Shelly Scott - GREEN FLAG (currently)

At first, Shelly was red flag. She did force Jay into relationship for few days, claiming he was her boyfriend when he never truly agreed to it nor wanted to.

Now that she actually had character development, I can say that she's green flag.

Shelly is extremely loyal to Jay. It's been visibly shown that she's not impressed by any other guy for example Hwangyeon or the ace from Punk Prince, every time he flirted with her, she brushed him off and told him to knock it off. But when Jay appeared? Her face immediately lit up.

Shelly always notices when Jay is feeling down and always offers her comfort! For example, in s3 when Jay blamed himself for what happened to Minu. Shelly literally went in the mountains to find him because she was so worried about him!

When Jay's mom kicked him out, Shelly immediately took him to her place and offered him shelter, food and place to feel safe at!

She treasures Jay's gifts so much! Even if it's just the shoes, she loves it and wears it so often!

She was supposed to be in UK with her parents but she came back just so she could fix the misunderstanding between Jay and her. This goes to show how much she values their relationship.

When his father kidnapped Jay just to scare him a little, Shelly got angry at her father and started defending and standing up for Jay!

Even when she was scared, she ran to save Jay's life when he was kidnapped. In nornal cases, she could have put her life in serious danger but she was ready to risk it all just for Jay.

Shelly deeply values her relationship with Jay, is absolutely loyal, emotionally available, she respects Jay and his own space!

June Lee - GREEN FLAG

June is heavily underrated gentleman. He had consistently showed his loyalty towards his lover, Heri. So far, there actually never have been any sign of red flags in this guy!

He kept his relationship secret from his friends for a little while but it's fineee. Some consider that red flag, but trust me, he has NEVER laid his eyes upon another woman except Heri.

He kept getting her roses! He was shy and cheesy with it too. He genuinely tried to win her over and make her happy<3

He's freely opening up to Heri, which means their relationship is his safe space! They're also more comfortable with each other than most couple — Yes I mean that freaking ass petting he received from Heri.

June also protected her from Harry Shepherd, despite knowing he'd lose in a fight, he still stood up for his girlfriend! This goes to show that June does not tolerate anyone disrespecting his girl.

June has shown great capacity for support, loyalty, affection, communication skills, respect, boundaries and etc. Plus he's funny. Green flag, indeed.

Minu Yoon - YELLOW FLAG

Minu was playboy, like literally. He wasn't the man someone with self-respect would consider dating. But...He changed. For Mia.

What I love about Minu's and Mia's relationship is that their main focus wasn't love and romance but self-growth. They had to be better versions of themselves for themselves and for each other too.

Minu stopped being a playboy for Mia. He abandoned his old lifestyle and changed for better for her and himself too!

He showed great capacity of being able to emotionally support Mia when she's at her worst. He helped her gain confidence!

Mind you, when Mia was accused of being a whore and going out with guys because of a picture Hwangyeon took, Minu legit tried took entire Ghost crew by himself for her, even if he got seriously injured, he still prioritized Mia!

He taught her how to ride a bike. Cuties! Best quality time.

He started changing for better and also, he started liking things she liked. Like for example, Minu hated spicy food but since Mia loved spicy food, Minu ate it too and continue to do so on other days!

When random guy spilled soup over Mia and threatened Hummingbird, especially Minu, Minu still asked Mia if she was alright.

Minu struggled with communication skills as well. He found it hard to open up to his friends and Mia at first, which caused issues between them....Yes, that definitely needed some work.

He also had quite temper. When he was overwhelmed by things around him, he called Mia but Jay followed Mia to see Minu, which isn't wrong considering Jay was worried about Minu as well. But Minu got angry and unintentionally hurt and scared Mia due to his temper (he grabbed her too harshly to the point that it hurt her).

I'm not sure whether I can bring up Minu's lash out on Mia and everything when he got his legs paralyzed, because it was such hard times for him. Even so, this still enlightened his bad coping mechanisms and poor communication skills.

Now? He's more mature and even better boyfriend than before!!

Have any of you ever heard of the hummingbird moths we get in Britain?

So, I thought I saw a hummingbird last year. It was much bigger than a bug could be, I thought, and it hovered around flowers and looked like it had feathers.

I got pretty close but it was never still enough to see clearly. Then, when I told my parents they said "oh! it was probably a moth!" and I was baffled for a long time. Like, how could a moth look like and act so much like a hummingbird?

Until I googled "hummingbirds in the UK" and this fucker comes up:

Everyone, meet the hummingbird hawk-moth; one of the weirdest and coolest cases of convergent evolution on this planet.

This is the kinda thing I'd see in fiction and go "oooh cool, bug hummingbird! Wish we had those on earth!" But we do. We really do have them on earth!! Isn't that nuts?!?!?

A/N ~ I’m sorry Shelly 😭😭😭 I don’t think Jay would ever cheat this is just to go with the song! The part at the end about sharing is to show after both parties were involved in Jay cheating on Shelly only y/n is blamed by rumors being spread that she likes to “share” men as in she’s a homewrecker.

You don’t remember how you started making out with the Genius rookie Jay Jo. You only remember drinking while playing spin the bottle now you’re having an intense make out with the super rookie. Sometime after you pass out from all the intoxication once you finally wake up you hear a familiar voice. “Hey, wake up?” He says. You get up and look and see Jay Jo. “What happened last night?!” You ask. “You two made out all night…” Minu says with a disappointed look on his face.

“How are we going to Shelly?!” You ask. “You don’t! At least not yet.” Minu says. You look over at Jay and he’s looking down playing with his fingers. He seems to be lost in worrisome thoughts. “I ruined my relationship with Shelly because I got drunk” he says, putting his head in his hands. “It was a mistake we didn’t mean to.” You say and Minu scoffs “do you hear yourself?! You sound like an asshole” he says.

The worst part was deep inside Jay Jo’s heart was that he now longs for you too. He had a crush on you even before dating Shelly but you never looked his way and he wasn’t confident enough to go against his mother to be with you until everyone in hummingbird helped change him. By then he was already with Shelly now he’s torn between the two women that mean the most to him in his life. He’s not even sure how you feel about him or how Shelly will react to the news. You left quite an impression, an unattainable addiction to be exact.

Shelly walks in with Owen looking for Jay and all three of you stiffen up not knowing how to break the news. You all hadn’t made it that far in planning to break the bees gently before she walked in. She hugs Jay the second she sees him with a huge smile on her face. Once she pulls away she notices the missing hummingbird necklace. “Where is your necklace?” She asks him and his eyes grow twice their size and he looks down. You can hear Minu choking on the air caught in his throat upon hearing the question.

“Ugh men” you think to yourself they do something wrong then they don’t want to admit it. If they you will “If you’re wondering why your gift went missing my body’s where it’s at.” You say while pulling the necklace from underneath your shirt revealing it. Jay and Minu don’t dare move a muscle and Owen seems to pick up on the memo much quicker than Shelly. “Why do you have it?” She asks. You turn a look at her and truthfully when you make eye contact with her you feel so horrible.

Her hopeful expression looking for a reasonable answer to this and knowing you don’t have one breaks you. Shelly is your closest friend. You never wanted to hurt her but you don’t know what came over you last night. Even if you were drunk you didn’t believe it was an excuse to make a move on her man. “Jay gave it to me after we made out last night while playing spin the bottle” you say as soon as it comes out the tension in the air is thick. Minu is wheeling himself backwards out the room slowly.

Shelly exits the room in tears and Owen has Jay by the collar ready to punch him but he gets shoved off by Jay. You watch as Jay runs after Shelly. Unclasping the necklace you hand it to Owen to give to Shelly you don’t stick around long enough for him to say anything to you. It’s been a few months and they worked it out and got back together you don’t even know how. Everyone made you out to be the villain to sweep the issue under the rug. You’re excluded from being a part of the team and anytime you come around they all stare and whisper.

You knew she wanted to marry him but you didn’t realize the extent she’d go to in order to do so. Even if they last forever she’ll always taste me when she’s kissing him. Everytime she closes her eyes and feels his lips against her own sges really feeling mine and every time she breathes his air I was already there she can have him if she likes thinking about it doesn’t mean I care everyone already knows I like to “share.”
