you can't give this man a sad backstory and understandable motivations and then make him an irredeemable unfixable evil!! LIKE THAT ISN'T HOW THAT WORKS!! THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!!

you either make it so the powers of the book are taken from him and he's returned to normal (and must still face the consequences of his actions while realizing he fucked up genuinely) OR!! you make him a genuinely evil asshole from the very beginning. make him hoard all the wishes because hes ALREADY been using them to make himself more powerful.
