(rant about JYP and misogyny and stray kids, itzy, nmixx, and the stray kids survival show below)

stray kids survival show opens with the first challenge: choosing between the girls team and the boys team. they both do showcases and JYP chooses who gets to debut.

the girls team is organized by JYP (proto-itzy). the boys team is made by a trainee (chan).

okay. thats fine. chan has been a trainee for a LONG time and they want a new group and theyre seeing if this experimental self-made group can compete with a group that follows their tried and true formula.

(which we also kind of know is also because JYP believes more in their girl groups than their boy groups. they dont want to change a formula thats working.)

okay, so then the self-made group wins. why? to spare time and paraphrase his words: because JYP believes in their teamwork. even though it was rough at the edges, he felt a connection between the 9 of them as a group that was relying on themselves.

awesome!

lets continue this project. its extensive: they make ALL of their own songs for every challenge in this show. their own raps, their own remixes, and even some of their own choreographies. and it works!! and they debut as 9, because everyone loves them so much, believes in them, and cant stand to see them seperated!

then the real challenge happens, of course, debut. district 9 is lukewarm. my pace is a hit. i am you is lukewarm. miroh is a hit AND a win!! side effects is lukewarm, even disliked. levanter is--hold on. uh oh woojin left and everything is going to shit. lets hold on for a second here, in the middle of this, right before miroh, itzy debuted!

now, at this point, stray kids is in their sort of wobbly era. they're a JYP group, so they're not necessarily flopping, but as someone watching from afar, i can tell you nothing here was notable save for my pace (i was pretty distant by 2019 and didn't hear of miroh until later when i started paying attention again) and i honestly forgot stray kids a lot.

so, sure. maybe it does get to me that the whole point of the initial surivial show showcase was to show who had more potential, and it proved that a self-made and self-coordinated group had an irresistible charm about its teamwork, and then they just went and fucked off with that to make itzy. itzy, a girl group formed by JYP with no hint of self-producing ideals in it and artificial messages about loving yourself. not a problem, of course, but after stray kids...? what was the message we were supposed to learn? with their earnest songs about self-image ("i am" series) and their teamwork that made people love them despite their flaws and amateurism?

so, i'll just say sure. stray kids is not stable yet and JYP is just running business as usual. this is the kpop industry! itzy's concept may bring up some questions, but everyone loves them.

but then--WOOOO GODS MENU

we are officially in stray kids Mainstream Success Era. which i call this because i think at this point most kpop fans know who stray kids are. even as someone who was completely out of the kpop loop at this point i could not escape gods menu. and i could not escape back door, thunderous, or maniac that followed.

everyone knows stray kids, so many people LOVE stray kids, stray kids demands respect as a group that confidently and consistently creates all of their own music. and theyre fuckin killing it.

and then........ nmixx?

so we proved that earnest music and teamwork and self-production has not only brought you millions of adoring fans but also the most successful boy group your label has seen, and the second most succesful group your label has seen. sure, when itzy debuted, stray kids wasn't a sure success yet, but now...?

let me shorten this for you. the answer is this: JYP--and the industry at large--does not believe in women to do this kind of work.

they do not trust women with the funds to take risks and have a few wobbly years before finding their footing. they do not trust women to know what they are doing and to do the technical work and manufacture their own success.

female idols should be dolls. female idols are the muses. female idols cannot be trusted. only male idols get to be the poets and the producers.

if stray kids has said when they have the time they can make up to 1-3 songs a day, that they have hundreds of songs hiding in their files, they release songs completely separate from albums with no mv, no promotion no nothing, but because they want to, what the hell does it mean for one member to be the last writing credit on one song every 3rd album?

i want more because i know its fucking possible. and i know for a fact women are capable of it.

i really, really, want JYP to just take one risk and give a group of female artists the platform to be this free.

Okay so im starting this series because i want to. Its just a compilation of chaos and mess lol. But imma need your help, please write requests on what you want to see in this series 🤭

Okay so! You became stray kids member in 2020! Before you became a stray kids member you were under Big Hit entertainment in a girl group called moonlight! Since you were trainee under Big Hit you knew Lee know since he was bts backup dancer. However, he joined JYP and you two were sad to separate :(. Your girl group split up because the members wanted to quit. You went under JYP and he put you in skz :). The fans like you and your personality. Your position is : Lead singer, main rapper and maknae.

Your relationships with skz members:

Bang Chan

- Since you are maknae, Bangchan is is like your dad. He loves taking care of you but your also like a mom since you are the only girl in the group lol. You dont really like being taken care off but let him take care of you cuz you dont want to be mean lol.

Lee know

- you and lee know are old friends. You sometimes fight over choreography but solve it easily. You love when he brings his cats to the skz dorm.

Binnie (Changbin)

- you love treating Binnie like a baby! Sometimes you talk with him like mother would talk to a toddler or baby and he loves it! Like he would wake up from a name and you would go "who just woke up! Did Binnie woke up? Did Binnie had a good sleep?" Like that but in high pitched voice and he absolutely loves it.

Hyunjin

- you and Hyunjin aren close, you like same things and like to do same things. He sometimes invites you in his room so u can talk and drink tea. You love being in each others spaces and talk for hours until you cant think of any more fopics to talk about lol.

Han

- Han LOVES you. You and han are chaotic duo no one can separate. You are like twins, you two share a room and sleep on bunk beds, him on top and you on bottom. Every night, Bangchan is stressed out because you and han are running around the room screaming and singing, you guys play all the time and mostly before bed so you are really loud and chaotic. Sometimes, Chan even comes in room and scold you two or woop your asses so you finally shut up and sleep. you two are always together, but i mean ALWAYS. you always jump around, twerk together, scream the lyrics pf your favourite songs together, rap random shit together, eat together, cuddle, you sometimes even sleep in each others bed. You are always very loud around other members and chan has to separate you two durning interviews or important meetings cuz you cant stay still lol. You also love and take care of each other. He would often invite you to 3racha studio just because he can't be without you.

Felix

- you and Felix like to hang out. You're not particularly close but you have your moments. You like to bake together and watch stuff together. You often have different opinions on stuff so u discuss them together. You love listening to Felix sing and you love cuddling him. Sometimes you like giving each other fashion advices, he also likes sending you tik toks lol.

Seungmin

- you and Seungmin are very different, he prefers to stay quiet while you're loud. But he thinks you're amazing and is always trying to find a way to start conversation with you and talk to you. He is always shy around you and you think its adorable.

Jeongin

-he at first didn't really like you cuz u took his maknae spot lol. But as the time pass by he started loving you. You don't really like acting like the baby of the group. You treat Jeongin like a baby even tho he is older than you.

I was just really invested in hot issue and really liked the group and the members so seeing them trashed after one cb pissed me off and seeing them trashed for another gg with slightly more well-known members instead of a bg like everyone thought enraged me. Like if you’re not prepared enough to get your group through a couple cbs to see if they take off then why are you even debuting them to begin with like what a waste of everyone’s time not to mention the uprooting the lives of seven young women like now yewon has to struggle through a survival show and mayna has gone back to China like good job everybody 🙃 it’s just a flat-out insult to the former members of hot issue and really any trainee in the industry who doesn’t have the connections of formerly being affiliated with a big 4 company (no one in the group has hybe ties as far as I can tell but the jyp yg sm links are all there)

So even though I like natty I just can’t particularly bring myself to care about this group or how it does. I mean nattys solo is also the only song of theirs I like so it’s not a big problem for me and like I said my anger at s2 entertainment shouldn’t stop anyone else from liking them. Also my definition of “not supporting” is different from most peoples lmao for me it just pretty much means not subscribing to their yt channel and shit-talking on tumblr I don’t have the money to buy albums to begin with and I’ve always flat-out refused to zombie stream songs

All your shows had been completely sold out to the point your company announced a couple of new ones – Those were quickly sold out too. Being an idol meant you hardly had privacy nor free-time. Your schedule was packed with music shows in the morning, an event to attend in the afternoon and a show at the evening. One additional thing – you were dating as well. It was hard sometimes, especially when your relationship wasn’t public. But you were glad about having a relationship in secret. You treasured it. The one you been dating? Shin Ryujin. Yes, Ryujin from ITZY to be exact.

You guys have been dating at the start of 2021 and to be honest, you were both surprised Dispatch hadn’t announced you guys as the “Dispatch-Couple 2021”. Your relationship was kept undercover by the help of yours’ and hers’ group mates. However, you had to inform two or three staff members in order to meet up as well but they accepted your relationship pretty quickly. Your relationship is overall solid.

So right now, you were in Los Angeles for the last two shows. Ryujin and you would text a lot despite the time difference. In fact its 17 hours. Meaning it would be dawn in korea when it would be noon at your place. You kinda figured out when it would be the best time to text and call each other. Right now it was 11 pm and you had some time left before going to sleep. You haven’t slept well at all, you missed your partner who was miles away. You also started to doubt yourself some days ago if you’re doing enough in your relationship. Needless to say, you were stressed out. And your group mates started noticing as well. One of them even told you about their worries and if it has to do with your relationship which you denied. When your member told you to ‘just talk about it the next time you’re free’ you were worried. But either way, you decided it would be a good idea to text her if she’s free and if she would be down for a call. She was worried why you would ask her like that but she agreed nonetheless.

“Uhhh Hey” you said. “Hey, is everything alright? You sound a bit…. Not like usual” Ryujin said with a laugh. You could tell that her laugh was just used to cover up her worriedness. “Yes, yes I’m alright. No I meant everything’s alright. Ha ha” Did you just fake that laugh?” she asked and you just laughed into the speaker. “So well, I hope everything is alright at yours as well. Oh and I’m pretty sure JYP is keeping you busy with promotions for loco as well, hm?” “Yea, that’s true, but well Lia and Yeji-unnie are often out as well but I didn’t feel like going out that much. I rather do that when you’re back from the States, if you know what I mean” she explained. You knew what she meant. Your little sneak-out dates everywhere but your dorms. Not that you hated being at each others dorms. It’s just…. The little amount of privacy and noisiness of your members. You guys were often over at each others dorms and sometimes both of your members joined you watching some movies, playing some boring games or just had some pretty conversations.

After a while Ryujin would ask if you’re still there since you didn’t reply her. “Yea, dont worry, I’m just…..” you started. “In thoughts?” she finished. “That as well but no, I think I’m stressed. For some reason I was thinking about our relationship, the amazing tour, all the screaming fans and so on. I don’t know why, care to give me your thoughts about that?” You asked her in a soft voice. Now it would be her turn to be silent for a while, you knew she was thinking since you heard some ‘hmmmmms’ and sighing. “Well, actually, I don’t see anything wrong being stressed and thinking a lot about stuff like that. But you know, since we’re partners, no, since you’re my boyfriend/girlfriend, I want you to know that I will always be there for you and understand your thinking. It can be hard sometimes but you know, everything will turn out great in the end. Maybe try to entertain you, you’re in the States anyway, even in LA, there are soooooo many things you could do there.” she rambled but you interrupted her. “Yea I know, you sound like you’re actually here too if you phrase it like that. So, where are you?” “Nooo, you know what I mean, dummy. I just want you to stop overthinking and try to relax for the last..thr- no, two days. You also know that I’m always right, so come on. Stop, please.” she plead with a soft voice that almost sounded she was next to you. You really missed her. “I know, Shin Ryujin is always right. Not always but most of the time. I know…But yea, you’re right. I really need to distract myself huh? These two more shows will definitely be some distractions. But you know, you will be always my favorite distraction. Listening to you always kinda calms me down, thanks a lot.” you said and a smile was forming on your lips. “I’m here for you, even when we’re more than 10 thousand miles apart. I’m just one call away, you know? And I hope you know that you don’t need to keep it all to yourself, alright?” she says with a soft tone in her voice. “Yea don’t worry, thanks a lot again. Soooo, change of topic now or else I’m going to cry. What are you going to do today huh? It must be around 4 or 5 pm if my maths is correct”

“Well, I will probably practise our choreos over and over again and later maybe have a movie night with the members.” You smile into your phone when she mentioned a movie night. You loved having them. “If you don’t know a movie yet, I would recommend [movie you just watched and thought it was worth it]. The plot and storyline is pretty good. I watched it the other day – I did fall asleep near the end though, but it was great until I passed out.” you laugh. “Alright, I will ask the members tonight then. So yea, since it’s pretty late for you, I hope you will sleep well and remember what I told you today. Oh, and I love you. Don’t forget that.” You’d smile at her words and you also feel your cheeks burn. “Alright, don’t worry, I will remember. You’re just one call away for the next 2 days and after that, I finally see you again so yea, take care and I love yooooouu even more~” she’d yell into the speaker “I LOVE YOU MOST” and hangs up. You were about to protest and say ‘to infinity’ but nope not happening according to her. Saying bye on the phone never was easy but she always made it easy for you with her outbursts of saying I love you. Shin Ryujin, the rebel you are.

It was something about tonight that made you feel this way.

Today was like any normal day. You woke up, went to work like usual, then Chan called you to come over to JYP and spend time with him as he worked on new Stray Kid's new album. You two havent seen eachother all day, so it was calming after a hectic day to walk into Chan's studio while listening to R&B music as it bounced through the room.

Anytime Chan lets you come into JYP he makes sure everything is safe. No one knows about your relationship, but Chan's group members. He was able to date now that the group wasn't in their rookie stages anymore, but it wasn't encouraged. Even though they could, if Chan was caught with you, all hell would break loose in JYP entertainment and in social media.

You two hated being secretive and having select times where you could sneak into Chan's studio for the rest of the night, only to sneak out when Chan is for sure positive that everyone who works on that floor was gone for the night. It was a handful but it became a routine that you two got accustomed to. The only part you hated was waiting for his texts.

Luckily at this point and time Chan finally texted you to tell you that it was okay to come. He waited for you in the back entrance and finally uou two made it to the floor his studio was on.

You two were currently sitting next to eachother close as possible in the small rollerchairs. He worked on music with his headphone around his neck while the contrast of Joji and the hard beat of a Stray Kids song, through Chan's headphones floated around. You had to admire how hard he worked for his group, how he loved his group. You admired how Chan's lips moved when he heard something he didn't like, how he sighed in frustration and reached for your hand to calm himself down, how he knew you were listening and looked to you for confirmation.

The clock on his desk striked 1:16 am and you audibly sighed.

"What's wrong?" Chan asked while still working on his computer.

"Maybe you should give your eyes a break babe." You suggested.

He saved his work, which he has been doing every 5 minutes, then turned and stared you directly in the eyes. His eyes were bloodshot from staring at multiple screens, being stressed out, and probably not blinking, but his eyes were soft and filled with gratitude.

"What are you doing?" You laughed confused.

"Giving my eyes a break. C'mere." Chan opened his arms inviting you into his lap.

You fulfilled his request and sat youself into his lap, leaning back into his chest and making Chan you new chair for now. He swayed back and forth in his chair humming along to Human Nature.

"Haven't I told you you're a sight for sore eyes?" Chan chuckled.

"Only by you." You agreed.

"Its true."

You both hummed in acknowledgement. You were ready. Not to leave, well yes leave the studio, but you wanted to leave this secretive life that you and Chan had been living. You two were in love and you wanted the world to know it. Who cares if his so called "fans" get upset, they aren't his fans if they get upset at his happiness.

The tempation to take your phone out and post pictures on instagram and let the chaos insue is creeping up on you. You needed to talk to Chan first about it, of course, but then he would want to play it safe. Will he ever want to become public with you? You both are still young and he has so much more ahead of him, you understand the need to play safe, on the other hand you wanted to show off Chan to your friends and family, take him out in public on dates, basically be outside together without repercussions.

"What's on your mind? I know you're thinking hard." Chan leaned his head back on the head rest.

"Im thinking about us." You sighed.

"What about us? Are we good?" Chan rushed through his words.

"Yeah! We're fine don't worry Chan, I just-"

"You called me Chan." He sat up with you on his lap bringing you closer as he said that.

"What?"

"When you are upset about something you call me Chan. I dont know how you didn't pick up on that." Chan smiled down at you.

"Maybe I should change the way I speak then." You chuckled.

"No, dont do that. Just tell me what's wrong." Chan hugged you closer.

"I want to go public with you. I want the world to know that were together I dont fucking care anymore. I just wanna go outside with you without your managers breathing down your neck." You finished your small rant as Chan hummed, knowing what you meant.

Chan sighed. "I know baby girl. I know. I just-"

You cut Chan off and stood up off of his lap. "Just what? Lets go! Lets do it now, lets go outside, drive out in the middle of nowhere, stay in a hotel. Fuck JYP! Fuck, Park Jin-young he could rot for all I care. I want you Chan."

You were standing up holding both of his hands while Chan looked up from his seat in admiration. He looked starstruck and conflicted. Yes the rant came from the top of your head, and it was just a fantasy. It wasn't going to happen, you both had jobs, he had a bigger obligation to fill than you. You just wanted freedom.

"Hey! I promise we can do those things. I promise. I never break a promise. I want you too, I have you! You know I want to stay safe." Chan reluctantly said.

You sighed as Chan mumbled another "Im sorry." You sat back down in the other chair next to his, he gave you a hand squeeze before going back to his work. The situation felt incomplete, but it might've been that you didn't get the answer you really wanted, but that's okay for now.

Chan never broke his promises no matter how much he had to sacrifice to make those promises happen you two will find a way. You two always find a way.

I dont think any 4th gen boy group can rise to BTS level of fame. Not coz I dont think they are not capable but because BTS level of fame is an anomaly and should not be taken as the standard. And two, it takes time. It will take at least 10 years for another Kpop group to reach or break the records BTS has broken.

I do think so long as BTS is active no 4th gen (even Bighit /HYBE groups ) are gonna come anywhere near them. After they disband or go into hiatus there is a chance. But not now.

Moreover I dont think you need to be on BTS level fame to be considered successful. Seventeen, NCT, EXO are all extremely successful groups on their own right.

As for currently the next big BG will probably not be a Kpop group. Before BTS it was 1D. There might be the rise of another big group in 5 years time but I think it might not be a Kpop group.

What do you think ? I am basing my conclusion purely on observation and industry trends.

You're right. You don't need to be considered to be so famous like BTS to be considered successful. Success is also in the eye of the beholder. Some people already seeing debuting as an idol in a well-known company a success in their eyes.

BTS' fame is not something that can easily happen to a group. Their fame is a combination of many things, which does also include luck. They happened to be at a time when Twitter was already becoming more popular and they used social media to their advantage and did well with it. Had they debuted earlier and Twitter didn't exist, they may not have been able to reach so many fans abroad. I am not saying that BTS became famous solely due to luck, but it is a factor. Bighit or rather Hybe now happened to do things that were also at the right moment. (We've seen JYP try to take Wonder Girls to the States and that didn't work out that well, or SM try to take SNSD To the States but that also didn't lead to a BTS effect.)

Kpop will probably decline over the years once the BTS effect dies down. Korean/western collabs are becoming more of the norm and same with English songs by Korean idols. This idea of "breaking boundaries" from a Korean group was fresh and interesting, but later it will no longer be "new" and interesting. It will just be normal for groups to go on western shows like carpool karaoke etc. People will get tired and seek other alternatives to Kpop.

Also, BTS no longer has that underdog effect/story that they had relied on for so long. They are already considered big--same with Hybe, so that underdog story loses its appeal too. And there's only so long that you can do with the BTS universe/stories from music videos--same with songs about loving yourself.

Believe it or not, BTS will get older and looks will fade over time even with plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures to maintain them. Intensive dancing too will probably not be sustainable for BTS when they are older especially when they all have injuries. BTS members all have their own desires for their personal careers too. No group is forever and when personal desires are so deep that they no longer care about being in a group, then a group will break. (In fact, nearly all of the BTS members regret signing the contract for renewal.)

Fame is also not forever. You can just look at the older groups to see how they've faded away or broken up or had tragedies. A lot of top groups/celebs end up having tragic endings--no surprise. (By fade away, I mean like their songs don't dominate #1. They are still known today but they are not #1 with their old songs etc.) Backstreet Boys . . . N'SYNC . . . Shinhwa . . . Seo Taiji and the Boys . . . The Beatles . . .

Im glad you asked, cause i’ve been dying to talk about it for a hot minute! Srsly lyrics are sooo important to me when it comes to music. Starting of: all wonder girls members are great lyricists. Even if they dont put out music!! I just know their poetry would bring me to tears. But honestly sunmi, yeeun & yubin snapped on the reboot album & didnt stop since. I love how they feel comfortable to actually write about their issues (yubin leaving jyp, sunmi’s mental health, yeeun’s problem w her dad) & not just sugarcoat everything. They just tell it like it izz ok? Another one goes to LE. She wrote all of exid discography. This woman will not stop until the whole world knows about her hatred towards men, i just have to respect her for that. Interestingly she also makes damn good sexy times music. Now to f(x)’s luna. Everybody should listen & read the entire free somebody album. Then they would understand. So ahead of her time, its a pity. Another great addition: heize. Everytime i listen to her lyrics is like im going thru a breakup. 10/10. And last but not least, the OG songwriter idol, miryo. From what i know she has the most writing credits among all female idols (LE is catching up tho!!) and thats got to mean sth.

i actually ult miryo!! she works primarily as a lyricist at mystic story now (is that common knowledge? i don't think she's credited half the time 😭) as her day job though ofc she still does her youtuber gamer streams and soundcloud raps. i forgot to mention how much i enjoy yeeuns unbridled and raw emotion she puts in her lyrics mainly because her music isnt my style but that doesn't mean her lyrics arent great. ofc sunmi i already mentioned how much i love, her double (and sometimes triple, quadruple) meanings in her songs and the extended metaphors and how her lyrics link to the composition cant be described as anything but genius. (thinking of heroine/gashina/noir/lalalay) of course i mentioned her weaknesses are when she goes for commercial viability instead of emotional expression, which is why i don't care much for pporappipam or you can't sit with us (tail doesnt have mindblowing lyrics but theyre perfectly fine, and the actual song production is good enough to carry it lol). ofc i listen to EXIDs title tracks but i really haven't tried any of their bsides! i didn't even know LE wrote for them! ill look into her credits when i find the time. also from what i heard, i enjoyed heize and i know she works with monotree so that immediately means shes good hehe... i was curious, are there any non-idol lyricists you like too?

"TALIA WAKE UP!" Chan yelled knocking at her door vigorously.

"IM AWAKE IM ALMOST DONE CHRISTOPHER WAIT!" She yelled putting her notebook in her bag and going through the door. Her brother went out of town for a photoshoot and Chan was left to pick her up her brother not wanting her to go on the bus alone with a bunch of creeps.

"Im here im here lets go." She said grabbing Chans arm and dragging him out the door while Chan was trying to grab his sandwich he was making for himself.

"Okay okay." He said getting in the drivers seat, and Tali got in the other side. He drove them to school.

"So how is training going?" He asked while waiting for the red light to turn green

"Its going okay so far, I've made some friends." She said, looking out the window, she's only really made guy friends and can't really relate to the shopping and gossip the girls have but has made a couple. But she has had made friends in Jyp girls because of Chan like Sana, which she was glad. But mostly guys.

"Thats good, no one is picking on you right?" Chan said sensing something off.

"No, no one." She said, which was true but not? Many girls like Jaemin and Jeno and wanted Tali to stay away since there's not doubt she is pretty, so they would make side comments but nothing much so far.

"Yeah, in that case I'm going to visit and pick you up...." Chan then looked at her straight in the eye.

"Personally." He said in a monotone voice.

"Nooooo-"

"Yessss, Butterfly, I care for you, and want you safe. And I know how you are with telling me this stuff." He said parking, she smiled at the nickname she has picked up. He turned to her and huffed.

"And you may be good at lying...but not to me." He said ruffling her hair. She sighed.

"You are to good Christopher...to good." She continued while steping out the car.

"Yeah yeah go, I have an early class, see you later." He said running off, she shook her head at him while walking to the library to grab a book and go to the roof to read.

She went to the library smiling to the people she makes eye contact with. She got to the library but not before catching a familiar guy's eye. Tali walked down the isle looking at fantasy books, when she felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned around making eye contact with a cute boy with an eye smile.

"Oh- hi Jeno." She whispered, since it is a library. He giggled now realizing he is in a library.

"Hi Talia, how are you?" He smiled at her.

"Im doing good, but uh what brings you to the library? No offense its just...you don't seem like the reader." Shs said turning slightly looking over at the books still on her goal it grab a book.

"Well, you're not wrong totally wrong, but I saw you and I haven't seen you outside of training much so I thought we could start hanging out more?" He said scratching the back of his head. Tali smiled at him.

"Of course...wait are the other guys here?" She asked realizing he is probably not alone. He nodded and grabbed her hand about to take her to them.

"Ah wait-"

"Hm?"

She grabbed a book she like, jogged to the check out section with Jeno slowly following her, chuckling.

"Okay, now we can go." She said, he nodded and walked ahead of her and she followed with her book close to her chest.

They turned a corner to see Mark, Jaemin, Haechan hanging out on the window.

"Hey guys look who I found." Jeno said getting everyone's attention. Jaemin reacted first.

"HI Taliii." He said with a big smile on his face going for a hug which she recuperated.

"Hi Jaemin... Hi guys." She giggled.

"Hi Talia." The other two smiled at her.

"Your a first year right?" Mark asked. Talia nodded.

"Ah so you are with us, Haechan said bringing his arm around Jeno."

"What class do you have?" Jaemin asked.

"Mr.Gwon" She said looking at her phone.

"Oh nice I have Mr.Gwon too." Haechan said smiling at her.

"Thats good."

"Hey Tali do you want to have lunch with us?" Jaemin asked.

"Ah sorry I-"

"TALIIII" They turned to the loud voice to see couple quite popular students which are Allen, Karma, and Hyunjin. They were surprised at the calling of her name while she winced at the sound.

"Sorry, I'm gonna eat with a couple of friends, but how about tomorrow?" She asked trying to make a compromise.

"No yeah thats fine." Mark smiled at her .

"Ah ok-"

"TALI HURRY UP.!"

"IM GOING!" She smiled apologetically and ran to the group while waving bye at the boys.

"Hyung she knows them?" Jeno asked Mark, and Mark shrugged.

"Yeah she does." A voice said coming out of no where, they turned to see Daehwi. They smiled at him and he smiled back.

"How so?" Haechan asked, he knew those 3 were popular but how do they know Talia since she seems so reserved and doesn't have that much confidence to talk to people, how would she talk to the popular students.

"You know Aruem?" He asked them, they all nodded.

"Well thats Talia." All their eyes widen.

"Wait so you are telling me, Tali is Aruem...like the girl who can charm many guys without even trying?" Haechan asked in disbelief, yeah sure Talia was pretty but he didn't think Talia was popular, or the girl the students named Aruem. Aruem is like a Korean name that the males in the school picked for her since she is pretty.

Daehwi nodded.

"But I heard rumors that she was stuck up and stuff but then the guys are like she is such a sweetheart?" Mark said confused.

"No she is a sweetheart, its just some girls are jealous." Daehwi clarified. The made :0 faces, thinking it did make sense since they do see Tali helping people so why would she be stuck up.

Time pasted and it was now lunch time, they saw Tali walk over to some of the popular students with some older guys that messed up her hair.

"Hyung?" Mark looked at Haechan and hummed.

"Do you think we will be that close to Tali?" He asked in wonder. Marked looked at Tali then him.

"I hope so." After awhile they talked amongst themselves, while with Tali she excused herself wanting to talk to the boys so they know she does want to be friends and also to show Chan she has friends. She walked over and sat next to Mark, he looked at her with a surprise look.

"What? Is there something on my face?" She asked. He shook his head no.

"I just wasnt expecting you to come over since you are quite popular." He said with a matter a fact tone. She shook her head.

"I personally don't care if I'm popular, I'm only popular because of my looks I acknowledge that but doesn't mean I dont want to hang out with my friends." She said softly putting her head on her crossed arms on the table. Everyone in that table went soft for her since her cheeks were squished like a she was a little puppy.

"We are your friends?" Jaemin asked.

"Well, I hope so." Talis said with a little fear they didn'twant to be. Thats until they smiled with glee, she felt relief wash over her.

"Looks like Aruem over here made herself some friends." She froze at the voice and groaned.

Allen came up from behind and wrapped his arm around her shoulder looking at the boys observing. He came over because he just wanted to see if the boys wanted be her friends, or just because she is pretty since many guys do and want to take advantage of her kindness.

"Hello my name is Allen very nice to meet you guys, but I have to take this beauty away and pick up our friend from middle school." He said slowly dragging taking Talia to the exit, she waved bye at them smiling apologetically as they waved bye back.

"How can you be friends with her, oppa?" Heejin asked as she walked up to the boys with her four minions friends in the hallway. Heejin was always a bully and tried to bring Tali down since she was popular for her looks. The girl was jealous, but most people in the school / grade knew Tali as a sweet person, so they took what she said like a grain of salt.

"Who?" Jeno asked raising an eyebrow at her knowing her reputation.

"Talia, the girl who sat next to Mark oppa." She said, disarmingly sweet. Mark grimaced at the act.

"What do you mean by why we are friends with her?" Haechan asked, observing her and remembering what Daewhi said about girls being jealous.

"Well she is such a bitch outside of school, especially in practice room. She is so stuck up." She said with a matter of fact tone, but with a high pitched voice. Jaemin looked at her with a grimace face getting annoyed at her nice act.

"Really?" Mark asked knowing damn well thats not true since some girls that are not jealous of her and befriended her told the guys she is really shy and sweet.

"Yes, she always made rumors about me and-" was cut off when Chan and Song-ho turned the corner raise their eyebrows at them.

"Would you like to finish that?" Chan asked.

"Oppa, its not what it looks like I would never-"

"Shut up, please you always talk bad about her but most of the students that know her know its not true, and you are just telling them because they don't come to school a lot because of training and don't know her." Song-ho glared at her. She was speechless, embarrassment filled her. She made a fist and glared at Song-ho and walked away with her minions friends.

"Sorry you had to hear that." Chan said changing up his whole demeanor walking up to them.

"Its fine we know its not true." Haechan smiled at them.

"Good, Talia is a sweet girl, she likes to talk about you guys and how she hopes to be good friends." Song-ho said with a reassuring smile.

"Really?" Jaemin asked surprised.

"Yeah, but we gotta go, see yea." Chan said quickly looking at his phone, they walked away quickly. Song-ho looked at him weird.

"Aye,whats wrong?" He said worried.

"It's Talia's dad." He said getting in his car.

"He's drunk again."

omg those methods are all so much better for packing the cd! the paper envelopes make me so nervous when i try to take it out. its so dumb to think about how much they could have done better. i got my album this week and the cover is just so sad, even the embossed details are really difficult to see...i wish they could have at least put their group logo or honestly anything else. even the fake group from the drama jr was a part of had actual albums for purchase, and the quality was so much better??

thats truee they were so young when they started, and they still have some time before they have to go... but aron started a podcast with his friend and they just released their first video! it looks really promising and im glad he isnt limited anymore :')

truly the group is so close with each other like always wearing each others clothes or whatever and showering each other with compliments, i dont even know how solo fans justify themselves.

oh my gosh posters for packaging?? thats an expensive piece of paper! ah noo there arent many shops near me so i order them online, which always means a random poster. i did get a group poster though which im very happy about :D and thankfully the pages werent ripped, but just the fear of the possiblity really made the experience less enjoyable that it should have been. i do think those are a decent size for posters. ah did you get your day6 one in a tube?

the albums after the merge just keep getting more disappointing the more you think about it, like romanticize with the tiniest paper photobook in a "box" that would be so easily crushed, and now a blank white cover with empty pages inside :| i miss the happily ever after album budget so much. plus their q is and canvas album were beautiful and the company was literally in debt at that time!

yes the paper envelopes are just not it, when taking it out you have to be extra careful if you don't want to fingerprint the other side....and it just feels kinda wrong storing the cd inside a paper envelope and then inside a book (the album) like it's not even a storage box type album it's literally book style i have no idea why they deviated from attaching it inside one of the covers...it's not even expensive to do like jyp does it cheap af for some day6 albums just a little foamy circle thing to hold it in place

omg the cover ugh i thought the embossing was going to be way more noticeable than that??? but it's soooo light, it's hard to pick up on camera and probably not insanely better in person i bet...the fact that only the 1 and 0 are in black (not counting that tiny ass text at the bottom) makes it the only thing really visible on the album, no group name, no album name, no logo like you can't even tell who the album belongs to it's really a frustrating design choice, also this is minor but the fact that the 1 and 0 aren't even aligned, which wouldn't be a problem at all if you could see the rest of the typography design, except you can't since the rest of the numbers are white so from further away it's just a floating 1 in one corner of the album and a slight lower 0 on the other side like wtf

plssss i saw fans talking about the fake group's album too and it really does look so much better i'm so sick how can you let a group that's not even real beat you in the album department like please do better omg nu'est was done so dirty

aw i see, yea kpop stores are still pretty rare and i think every online website just gives randomly but ahhh i'm happy to hear your album got to you safely and nothing is damaged!! and the group poster too omg lucky!! ot5 pictures are always a win i love that for you! oh god yea, if i knew beforehand that albums were arriving in those conditions i would've been so nervous too so i'm glad i didn't??? but also if something was wrong in my album i think i would cry like the ripped pages are really too much.....

oh i think it might be more common for stores in korea to do that, my sister bought the nu'est album physically in store so there's nothing to pack but the poster was rolled and taped by a cut scrap piece of a tvxq poster but it wasn't an official one, it lowkey looked like a press picture from ages ago and it was double sided too idk why the store has it and used it to roll up their posters SJHJDSFDS

i also remember a tiktok that cause a lot of chaos on twitter back then, the only thing i can pull up about it now is this screenshot but seems like occasionally, unsold/ungiven posters do just get crumpled or cut up for packaging ;_;

i didn't get my day6 posters in a tube since i bought them in store! they just roll it up loosely for me and put it in the bag with the album or hand it off to me~ i have bought albums online before but were bought long after pre-order benefits ended so those never came with posters for me but from unboxing videos seems like they tend to come in a tube, i think some places give you the option to have it come folded too if you don't want the tube

yea that flimsy box...what they were thinking like that packaging is so easily damaged during shipping and these albums literally get shipped everywhere!! they were clearly trying to cheap out and not give them a hard cover box but then why would u even attempt that packaging style...if they wanted to go soft cover they should just make it a slip box like this, with everything fitted to the cover so it won't get easily dented but maybe that would expose how thin the photobook was 🙄

those blank pages along with so many useless white space it's horrible, my sister said it reminds her of those testing booklets that have those white pages that say "this page has been intentionally left blank" there's literally no reason to have empty pages in a photobook 😭😭

so true...wish we had that budget back at least for this last album, happily ever after was truly their best work for nu'est imo very sad that it just got progressively worse and more money grabby as the albums went on and then the horrible quality downgrade and price increase after the merge just the bitter cherry on top ugh...exactly...they managed to make decent albums with no money before yet now they have money and this is what we get???
