2021 Kia Seltos EX: The New Subcompact King

I can’t recall a time when I saw a subcompact SUV/crossover and thought, “Hmm that looks muscular”. Yet one can’t help but label Kia’s latest SUV as just that. A quick look might mistake it for the upper crust, double the price, Range Rover Evoque.  Good company indeed if you’re hunting down customers in the lucrative subcompact SUV market.

There are two basic categories that I label the subcompacts in, the cute utes, which are little more than higher riding four door hatchbacks (crossovers) and those that actually do have some utilitarian purpose. Case in point this week’s test vehicle.    

Slotted between the boxy Soul and the sleek Sportage, the Seltos gives Kia another ace in its SUV/Crossover lineup. (Wasn’t it just a few years ago that the Sportage was in the subcompact SUV category?) Manufacturers being what they are, continually bloat their vehicles until it’s lost all its former character and then unveil another model to make up the void left behind. Enter the Seltos, and I’m glad the Seltos has come along. Based on an extended platform of its corporate cousin, the sleek and stylish Hyundai Kona, the Kia is sure to shake up the category.

Regular readers may recall that last December I raved about the Kona and its surprisingly sharp handling with quick giddy up’n go from 1.6L turbocharged four, making it an above average contender in the hotly contested subcompact crossover segment. But what if you need more space? The Seltos does just that taking it a step further with an extra 30mm of wheelbase and an additional 205mm of overall length over the Kona, yet the two handle similarly. The added wheelbase and squarish cabin pay off with greater head, hip, shoulder and cargo room. The Seltos has a generous 62.8 cu.ft. with the rear seats folded versus the Kona’s 45.8 cu.ft. You can stick an adult’s bicycle into the rear…how many subcompact SUVs can make that claim! Rear seats fold almost flat, more on the interior later.

Coupled with a taller ride height, the Kia also greatly improves egress and ingress over the Kona. Of course there are several other contenders vying for the Seltos’ spot, and not just the Kona, including Chevy’s Trailblazer, Ford’s EcoSport, the Buick Encore and Subaru’s Crosstrek, to name just a handful.

Five trim levels make up the Seltos line starting at $24, 905* for the front-wheel-drive LX.  Opting for the LX all-wheel-drive version with 17” wheels replacing the 16 inchers will cost you an additional two grand. This is the priced-right sweetheart package if you don’t mind giving up the sunroof and a few minor trim pieces. The rest of the Seltos catalog is all-wheel-drive, which include the EX, EX Premium. Power is derived from the 2.0L Nu Atkinson-cycle four developing 146 horses and 132 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a continuously variable trans (CVT). I do wish a manual tranny was available?

Topping off the line is the SX Turbo at $34,505*, and as the name suggests is powered by the same 1.6L Turbo GDI mill that I found in the Kona, pumping out 175 horses and 195 lb-ft of torque through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

My $ 29,775* EX (Includes $250 surcharge for the Neptune Blue shade) came with a power sunroof, LED taillights, 17” wheels, chrome grille, satin belt trim, which I might add really made the lines pop, keyless entry and premium leatherette seat trim (premium leatherette? Marketing departments never cease to amaze me). From a safety perspective the EX comes with forward collision and lane follow assist, rear cross traffic alert. In true Kia fashion, there is a load of equipment that is standard even on the base models that other manufacturers option out. Items like heated mirrors, keyless entry, heated seats and steering wheel, automatic headlights and heated washer nozzle – great for our climate.

While you won’t set any speed records with the base mill, it’s anything but sluggish and you’ll get rewarded at the gas pump. I averaged an impressive 7.8l/100kms with mostly, but not exclusively highway travel. The 2.0L had no trouble in passing semis, matter of fact I caught myself more than once getting into ticket country. Yes it’s that smooth. On with the cruise control just to keep me legal.

As you may know we’re in search of a replacement to our X-Trail and the Seltos also has a centre-locking differential, making it that much easier to tread through the deep stuff that is coming. Off roaders will also appreciate the hill descent control.  

But while the Seltos gives an above average ride, its Achilles heal are the hard seats. It’s a trait I’ve never associated with Kias in the past. My power window was a nuisance trying to it to stop where I wanted it.

Happily the rest of the interior is all Kia; the eight-inch touchscreen has clear graphics and is connected to a six-speaker audio system sound. Sadly sat radio only comes into play on the Ex Premium. Outward visibility is excellent, except for the back window; the three rear seat headrests hamper the view. I do wish manufacturers would follow Volvo’s lead with hollowed out headrests.

The generous amount of head and leg room isn’t exclusive to the driver and shotgun rider either; second-row passengers will enjoy the airiness and get reclining seatbacks.

Judging by the flood of television spots Kia has invested in promoting the Seltos to 20 somethings, the 20 somethings in my crowd are more concerned about sporty coupes than subcompact SUVs. If anything I can see the Seltos being a big success with seniors, but something needs to be done about those seats.  

If you’re idea of a good subcompact includes loads of cargo space and a spacious passenger compartment, above average handling, good performance with good gas mileage backed by a solid warranty you need not look any further, and I suspect that over the coming months the roads will be covered with them.

2021 Ford Escape review: A sensible choice

There are so many exciting things happening at Ford right now. The rough and tumble Bronco arrives this year, following the launch of the tiny-tough Bronco Sport. There’s now an electric Mustang SUV. Heck, the F-150 is a dang hybrid with an inverter so beefy that it can power an entire house. So where does that leave other products, like the Escape?

The 2021 Ford Escape is not a particularly exciting ride, even loaded up in Titanium trim with its most potent EcoBoost turbocharged engine. It’s just a fine and comfortable commuter with broad appeal. Unable to get by on playing to emotions and hype, the humble Escape is faced with, in many ways, a much harder task than its more spectacular stablemates: to sell itself on practicality and value alone.

I suppose you’d get used to it, but finding the Escape’s tucked away Start button was my first challenge.

EcoBoost with AWD

The first thing I notice about the Escape? The oddly positioned engine start button. It’s crammed into a little nook behind the steering wheel and nearly impossible to see from the driver’s seat without craning my next and contorting my wrist. Not a good ergonomic introduction. 

Fortunately, that button fires up a potent little engine: Ford’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Escape accelerates with surprising eagerness and has a very responsive throttle. I’d say the Escape 2.0T has some of the best get-up-and-go in the compact crossover class.

Stop-start fuel-saving tech helps the EcoBoost 2.0T achieve an EPA-estimated 23 miles per gallon city, 31 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined — numbers that are unchanged from last year’s estimates. During my highway-heavy 294.6 miles of testing, I averaged 28 mpg even.

Escape buyers can opt for a smaller, 1.5-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 181 hp, as well as 200-hp hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The entry-level 1.5T — which we drove last year — is the most affordable trim and probably a better apples-to-apples match with the likes of the non-hybrid RAV4 and CR-V in terms of power and efficiency. The electrified models are the most efficient variants of the Escape, averaging 41 mpg with the conventional hybrid and offering an additional 37 miles of electric cruising range with the plug-in.

With standard all-wheel drive and 3,500 pounds of towing capacity (when equipped with the trailer tow package), the 2.0T is also the most capable version of the Escape; lesser engine options only allow it to tow 1,500 pounds. Handling and braking feel about on par with the rest of the small SUV class — more people-mover than canyon-carver — so don’t expect to be blown away by the Escape’s performance.

The Escape features multiple driving modes to help you fine-tune the SUV’s behavior, ranging from sporty to thrifty, but I find it’s annoying to toggle between these settings. There’s only one button and it cycles through the Escape’s five drive modes — Normal, Eco, Sport, Rain and Snow. So while going from Eco to Sport is one tap, getting back to Eco or Normal takes four or five, assuming you don’t accidentally tap too quickly and overshoot it.

The larger EcoBoost engine increases the Escape’s towing capability from 1,500 to 3,500 pounds.

Creature comforts

On the outside, the Escape’s smoothed-over design is quite car-like and approachable. The size is good for easy urban parking and, from the driver’s seat, the SUV boasts pretty good visibility in all directions. My example features a hands-free power liftgate that opens smoothly and quickly with a kick beneath the bumper.

Inside, Ford’s designers tried to create a premium feel with a bunch of faux exposed-grain wood and, on my Titanium model, leather-trimmed seats. Aside from the aforementioned start button, the dashboard and console controls feel nicely positioned. However, the wood looks really fake when you give it a closer look. A lot of the cabin materials — like the hard plastic door cards and easily scratched lower dash — feel cheap. 

Ford makes up for this with a few solid tech features. B&O badges indicate premium sound provided by high-end audio manufacturer Bang & Olufsen. Sound quality is above average to my ear, but not audiophile level. A digital instrument cluster with separate themes for Sport and Normal driving plays nice nature-inspired animations on startup and shutdown. Also optional is a visor-style head-up display that rises from the top of the instrument cowl. I’d prefer HUDs be projected directly on the windshield, but any HUD is better than no HUD at all.

The Escape’s cabin is nice, if you don’t look too closely.

The main event where tech is concerned is the Sync 3 infotainment system. Its software is well organized and its feature set checks all of the right boxes, with USB connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration, Bluetooth and satellite and HD radio tuning. Voice-activated navigation has been a hallmark of Sync since its inception and continues to work well here, with excellent natural-language recognition for addresses.

The Escape also features Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 Assist, a standard suite of driving aid features, including pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Stepping up to the Titanium trim — or optioning Co-Pilot 360 Assist Plus — adds adaptive cruise control that works in stop-and-go traffic and traffic-sign recognition, both of which are new for 2021. The Plus upgrade also includes lane-centering steering assist and a feature called Evasive Steering Assist which works in concert with the emergency brake assist to help drivers to steer around obstructions.

As always, Ford’s Active Park Assist — now in its second generation — is still exceedingly competent and at times easier to operate than parking it yourself, requiring just a single button press to enter parking mode while the vehicle handles steering, shifting and braking.

It’s fine and that’s OK

The 2021 Ford Escape starts at $26,130, including a $1,245 destination charge, for a base 1.5T S model with front-wheel drive. Fully optioned, the 2.0T AWD Titanium tops out at $40,820 — interestingly, a skosh higher than the loaded Hybrid Titanium’s $39,435.

Option the 2.0-liter EcoBoost and the Escape boasts a slight performance advantage over much of this class. However, the more common 1.5-liter model lacks that advantage and the newly updated Nissan Rogue, the Kia Seltos and Toyota’s RAV4 become threats with more comparable on-road manners and slightly better interior quality. The Kia, for example, is much less expensive than the Ford when comparably equipped. The Escape’s tech is still top notch — particularly its one-button parking technology — but that’s not as much an advantage as it used to be now that the competition has caught up during this latest generation. At the other end of the spectrum, the Subaru Crosstrek and Ford’s own inbound Bronco Sport appeal to drivers looking for more off-road utility in their small SUVs. 

The 2021 Ford Escape isn’t the most exciting thing Ford makes right now, but it’s still a very competent player. As a volume seller, it’s a very important model to Ford’s bottom line.

The compact SUV space is a high-growth segment in India and newer models from the Korean carmakers have helped the market grow in terms of volumes. Now, the Volkswagen Group is gearing up to bring in new models in the segment. Skoda Auto India that’s been leading the charge of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 strategy will be foraying into the segment next year with a brand new compact SUV based on the Vision IN concept. The new model will be a Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos challenger and will be locally manufactured in India. It will hit the showrooms by mid 2021.

Speaking to carandbike, Zac Hollis, Director- Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda Auto India said, “Our key suppliers are now here and our specialist technicians from Europe are also here to make sure that the production line is ready. So everything is on the track and we have quality cars on the production line coming through at the moment. So we should have quality cars in the showroom by the middle of next year.” Skoda has also promised that the model will be at par with the brand’s other line-up as far as quality and reliability are concerned. “I have very high expectations from this car. This car is coming in the key segment in India, it’s coming in the mid-size SUV segment which is a booming segment and we have already seen the impact of new entrants from the Korean manufacturers. And of course we’ll be bringing the car smack into that segment. It will be priced right and will have all the virtues that you expect from Skoda. So you know in terms of quality, styling and safety it will have everything that you expect from Skoda. I am very comfortable with this car going forward and it becomes a step up. So this year we’ll be selling around 11,000 cars and the plan next year is to go to over 30,000 or so and our long term aim is to sell 100,000 cars in India,” Hollis added.

Along with quality and durability, as Hollis mentioned, the model will also adopt the Skoda family design language. So most likely we’ll get to see similar family design elements that we had already seen on the Vision IN concept earlier this year and even on the test mule that’s recently been spotted. So the production model will feature basic design cues like the 3D grille with the winged arrow logo mounted atop and also expect few sharp sculpting lines on the face and along the profile. And also, the wide Skoda lettering is likely to be seen on the boot. As far as engines are concerned, we already know that the India 2.0 strategy is emphasising on localisation. While the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, TSI engine will be the mainstay for smaller cars, we expect Skoda to locally develop and manufacture a new four-cylinder turbocharged engine for the compact SUV. However, those details are yet to be officially shared by the company.

Ever since KIA Motors launches themselves in India they have been shattering the market left right and centre. Their first launch the Seltos right from it’s pretty launch days were truly bringing out a lot of talk and buzz in the market.

First concept designs were out followed soon by the actual car which was shown at the AutoExpo 2018....and then the cars bookings were out later that year and soon became the first car maker in India after a very long time to have a car of the year trophy in its maiden launch year which was only last achieved back by Hyundai with its Santro (Korean sister car maker brand).

Now, KIA has pulled out another trick out of its bag of tricks with the all new Sonet. Of course I am not saying that their Carnival was any less of a game changer. But, due to its position in the market both with size, category and pricing it’s in a range that’s not a car that a typical everyday Indian house would buy. Now the Sonet has done exactly the same successful trick and turn just like the Seltos. The design cues and styling and language is so inherent of the KIA DNA.

Their plan has been clear to bring out a car that will truly strike to impress and create enough buzz that will truly be impactful and will also be a perfect car for that category of buyer. Let’s hope that the Sonet manages to strike the same balance overall and give us markets a 100% game changer.

Honda Cars India starts production of new City sedan

New Delhi: Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), on Tuesday has announced that it has commenced production of fifth generation Honda City sedan at the company's Greater Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh.

As the automaker claims, Honda City is one of its most successful cars in India with high brand equity. It was first introduced in India back in January 1998 and later launched as 2nd generation in November 2003. The third generation model came in September 2008, while fourth generation City was launched in January 2014.

Nissan hasn’t launched an exciting new product in India for a while now. Sure, the ‘new’ Kicks gets a powerful engine but it’s still not something the masses would go gaga over. The only other model in their current lineup is the GT-R, and that’s not what you’d call a widely attainable car. Now though, things are about to change. Nissan aims to put a lot more focus towards India, Africa and the Middle East as part of its Global Transformation Plan.

​Renault Kwid records 3.5 lakh unit sales milestone, new BS6 variant available

NEW DELHI: Renault Kwid, French manufacturer’s flagship offering in India has crossed landmark 3.5 lakh unit sales since its launch.

The company also announced that the Kwid is now more accessible with the RXL variant launched with a BS6 compliant 1.0L powertrain in MT and AMT versions. The new RXL variant will be very competitively priced, at Rs 4.16 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MT and Rs 4.48 (ex-showroom) lakh for the AMT version.

Volvo Cars recall eight models produced from 2006 to 2018

Eight Volvo car models have been recalled globally over problems with the front seat belt fastening.

A spokesperson for the firm told Belfast Live: "Investigations by Volvo Cars have identified that in very rare cases and under specific circumstances, a flexible steel cable connected to the front seat belts on certain Volvo models produced between 2006 and 2018 may under certain rare circumstances suffer from wear and fatigue over time.

How Tesla Delivered Despite Lockdowns

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) said that it sold a total of 90,650 vehicles over Q2 2020, with Model S and X deliveries standing at 10,600 units and Model 3 and Y sales standing at 80,050 units. Whether a redesign, variant or all-new model, we expect these vehicles to show up for the 2020 model year or not too long later. #1. Nissan Leaf EV 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q2 2020 The Nissan Leaf is the Japanese brand’s shot into returning to local relevance. Although EV adoption is still at its infancy in the Philippines, there is an obvious push towards removing ourselves from relying on fossil fuels for our cars. Powered by a Fully Electric Synchronous Motor, the Electric Vehicle musters 148 hp and 320 Nm of torque with an estimated range of 270 km. The beauty of synchronous motors is that all that power is not reliant on engine speed or RPM as it has none of those. You can potentially make all that power instantly as soon as you hit the pedal. Another set of good news is that Nissan Philippines has confirmed that Nissan Leaf EV to arrive on Philippine shores by 2020 and they are major stakeholders in building the local infrastructure for charging systems with the pilot run around the capital. It’s a great time to be alive!

#2. Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q4 2019 The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a class-leading vehicle and is proof that Mitsubishi is serious about being the leader in trucks and SUVs. The dynamic shield design creates a dynamic and aggressive front fascia that stands out from the pack in the PPV market. The Philkotse team loves the design, but then Mitsubishi released the 2019 Mitsubishi Strada came out of nowhere and surprised us with its much-improved bumper. It made us dream of the same design being slapped on to the Montero Sport. I never thought I would be so excited over a simple refresh. Multiple leaked photos of the Montero Sport doesn’t help satiate our desire for the new refreshed model as Mitsubishi cleverly camouflaged it to hide its design. It will still be powered by the same engine and produce the same power figures but color us intrigued for the upcoming release. #3. Toyota Supra 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q4 2019 Nissan has it’s GT-R, Honda its Civic Type-R and even Chevrolet made their Corvette available for the local market. It has been a while since Toyota in the Philippines introduced a halo car to hover above all its sales leaders, but with the introduction of the Toyota Supra to our shores, they just became the top-dog. The Toyota Supra line has long retained its iconic status ever since the 90s when Bryan O’Connor smoked a fancy Ferrari F355 in the first The Fast and the Furious movie and with average prices for used Fourth-Generation Toyota Supras maintaining their premium prices, you just know that a Fifth-Gen release will bring in car buyers crashing the front doors to get their hands on a unit. Developed in partnership with BMW and based on the BMW Z4, it is powered by either a 2 liter inline-4 or 3-liter inline-6 turbocharged engine creating 255 hp and 335 hp respectively. Both models utilize an 8-speed automatic transmission and just like the previous model is in a Rear-Wheel Drive configuration. As of this writing, the Toyota Supra has now been introduced to our market and sales will begin shortly as a 2020 model.

#4. Honda Accord 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q1 2020 The latest iteration of the Honda Accord has long been introduced globally and has made quite a stir thanks to its Turbocharged VTEC engine and bold styling. Although the Toyota Camry beat it to the punch this year with a local release, Honda fans have been anticipating its announcement and release. Hope does spring eternal with the new model being introduced at the 2019 Bangkok International Motor Show earlier this year. Since the release of Honda Accord in our ASEAN neighbor, it is safe to say it will be available here as well. The Honda Accord available in their shores is the 1.5-liter turbo VTEC engine that makes 187 hp and 243 Nm of torque with a Hybrid option available. Honda gives you 10 forward speeds with their automatic transmission, although personally I still wish they bring the 6-speed manual version, one can dream, right? The model will also make an introduction on the 18th of this month at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Tangerang, Indonesia giving the Philippines hope for a late 2019 or early 2020 release.

#5. Mazda 3 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q1 2020 Mazda has always been at the forefront of technology with the internal combustion engine. From the Wankel Rotary to the Sky-Active engine their research and development team worked tirelessly to create new ways to propel cars the way we know it. The all-new 4th Generation Mazda 3 will bring forth a new development with the introduction of the SkyActive-X engine, a combustion system where engine compression is significantly increased to burn fuel more efficiently to create more power and increase fuel efficiency and recent tests have shown very promising results. The 2-liter Sky-Active engine creates 190 hp and 280 Nm of torque, all from a Naturally aspirated engine. These figures have never been seen from an engine with similar displacement. The Mazda 3 has been announced for release earlier this year, showcasing this technology wrapped in a very sporty and attractive Kodo Design. Mazda is positioning itself as Japan’s premium car brand and it shows with the build quality and design language. A local wide release is scheduled for late 2019 to early 2020.

#6. Toyota Corolla Altis 2020

Status: Tentative Release date: Q4 2019 --- Update (September 9th, 2019): The all-new Toyota Corolla Altis 2020 is officially released in the Philippines! Click here to get full details. --- If the Toyota Camry beat the Honda Accord with releasing first in the Philippines, they sure got the short end of the stick when it comes to their compact sedans. The Honda Civic has enjoyed a significant lead in sales compared to its natural competitor, the Toyota Corolla Altis. This year, Toyota is gearing up for a return in a big way with the release of the 12th Generation of their iconic sedan. Featuring a radical redesign from the outgoing model, The New Corolla Altis is based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform found in the new Prius and CH-R. The ASEAN model is rumored to be available with a 1.6 and 1.8 engine. Reports have indicated that the model will be available in the Thailand beginning August this year, and hopefully to the Philippine market not long after that. We can most likely expect a new Toyota Corolla Altis at the end of the 4th Quarter 2019.

#7. Ford Everest "Raptor"

Status: Rumored Release date: Q1 2020 Much like the Strada and Montero Sport, the release of the Ford Ranger Raptor 2019 gave fans wild dreams of what a potential Ford Everest “Raptor” would look like. If the Everest Bi-Turbo and the Ranger Raptor’s power figures were any indication the 2-liter engine bi-turbo diesel engine pushes out 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque, beastly figures that are the best in their respective classes. You can chalk this up more in the rumor department but multiple sources from Ford have indicated that the beast does exist and a planned announcement is set for the First Half of 2020.

#8. BMW 745e PHEV

Status: Tentative Release date: Q4 2019 You’ve seen the memes for these cars. With their over-sized Kidney Grill, the internet seems to be fascinated with the latest iteration of the BMW 7 Series and X7 Luxury SUV. Introduced and released internationally at the beginning of the year, 2 of BMW's flagship marques offer top-notch luxury and motoring decadence. Powering the 745e is a 3 liter inline-6 turbocharged engine with designation called the xDrive45e paired to an electric drive motor combining for a total output of 394 hp and a staggering 600 Nm of torque, the BMW 745e has a 0-100 km/h rating of a little less over 5 seconds. No one would be laughing at that over-sized grill once they get left in the dust by this PHEV. Local sources from within BMW have indicated a release for the 745e at 4Q of this year for a 2020 model year release.

#9. BMW X7 2020

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q4 2019 BMW also has its ultra Luxury SUV, the BMW X7 on the horizon, with a confirmed release for this 4Q 2019. The new BMW X7 doesn't have an electric motor to assist its propulsion but makes up for it with a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 churning out a mind-blowing 523 hp and 750 Nm of torque. This propels the behemoth from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Information about the X7 is already posted on BMW Philippines' website and we were informed of a 4Q 2019 release. It seems like we now have a new aspirational car if we do win the lottery.

#10. & #11. Kia Seltos & Kia Stonic

Status: Confirmed Release date: Q4 2019 Earlier this year Kia Philippines has announced that they would not be releasing the updated Kia Soul in the Philippine Market but will instead be replacing it with another model. They’ve dropped multiple hints about what it could be and even released the Kia Stinger at this year’s Manila International Auto Show to heighten our anticipation. Since being taken over by the Ayala Group, Kia Philippines has promised to streamline their model line-up and introduce new and exciting vehicles.

Kia Philippines has promised to streamline their model line-up The possibility of either the Kia Seltos or the Kia Stonic or even both have long been discussed and the anticipation has now reached its boiling point. These models are both Compact Crossover SUVs with the Stonic more appropriately sized as a Nissan Juke Competitor and the Seltos, a slightly larger vehicle but can still be bundled within that same category. The Kia Seltos is the likeliest release of the 2 cars with its focus on the Asian market but we can't discount the Stonic just yet. If Kia’s local releases this year have been any indication, their ability to surprise the market is impeccable with their aptitude to keep release dates and marketing strategies they always know how to keep us on our toes. It is expected that either one or even both of these vehicles will be rolling off Kia showrooms by the end of this year at the end of Q4 of 2019

Each year, a 30-second commercial spot continues to climb and this year was no different. According to AdAge, brands had to cough up $5.6 million for a 30-second spot during Super Bowl LIV.

Couple John Legend & Chrissy Teigen won the Super Bowl car commercial award for their party throwing antics in Genesis' ad spot for the GV80 SUV. The "sexiest man alive" comment was cute.

Raiders running back rookie Josh Jacobs starred in a Super Bowl ad spot for Kia’s new Seltos SUV. Kia announced it will donate $1,000 for every yard gained in Super Bowl LIV to three charitable groups involved in youth homelessness, including Covenant House, Positive Tomorrows and StandUp for Kids.
