👀 Do you have any words/phrases you use habitually? 

I really like word "hence", I heard it once in like third grade and I basically made it a core part of my personality from then on. Not sure how often I use it in fic tho.... Other than that, I think I use a lot of -ly words as descriptors; wryly, ruefully, brightly, etc. A bit basic I'll admit but they get the point across and I don't have to dig out a thesaurus to understand what a character is expressing.

💕 What is the WIP that you are most excited about?

Well as mentioned in the tags of my og reblog, I've only got one WIP that I'm actually working on right now! The working title is "rest your head close to my heart, never to part (baby o'mine)", which will probably stay the title cause I always use song lyrics 😂 I'm usually inspired by music to write so it's only natural, I think. It's a fic for Anne of Green Gables, specifically the Sullivan tv movie continuity remixed into the original book continuity. Set 8 years after the third movie and with zero regard for any supposed "fourth" movies you may have heard of, it centers on the eldest Blythe child, Dominic, and how he comes to a sudden realization about himself in relation to the rest of his family, and how his question of "where did I come from?" Is answered.

Or, "so you forgot to mention to your firstborn that he's adopted and now he's asking Questions™ because he's realized he's the blonde sheep of your black-, brown- and red-haired family, what do you do?" But in fic form 😂😂😂.

I'm excited to see it finished cause I've been working on it for weeks, and because it's the first fic I've written in... A year, I think? So to get it written out will be an amazing achievement for me! I'm not sure how it'll be received cause it's a) the most self-indulgent fluffy-ass piece I've ever written--even more so than my Bradyverse, which I didn't think was possible--and is explicitly canon to the Anne movie that literally only me and like 5 other people like 😅😅 but who cares it's family fluff time!

⏰ What time of day do you prefer to write? 📌 If all your fics/WIPs fell off a ship and were drowning (go with it), and you could only save one, which would it be?

Time of day: whenever I've got a free moment tbh 😂😂 which currently tends to be the evenings as I work the morning shift 5 days a week. I've written or edited during my lunch times before tho so it's far from a hard and fast rule. When the inspiration strikes, it strikes!

Pick one WIP to save: well considering I only have one WIP that I'm currently working on (sorry professors!macdalton au, hopefully I'll get back to you one day), I'd say it's gonna have to be that one, titled "rest your head close to my heart, never to part (baby o'mine)". Even if it wasn't my only wip tho it'd probly be the one I save cause it's also one of the longest-taking wip I've ever had (the Brady verse doesn't count that was less one full wip and more a bunch of little snippets) and the fact that I'm still not done even tho it's been weeks is like. Torture. So I *will* finish this goddamn fic if it kills me. Wouldn't be the first death in the series at least (tho to be clear, nobody dies in this fic. It... Just happens to be about the mc finding out he's an adopted orphan, so. Clearly somebody had to die along the way. Multiple somebodies, even.)

Primarily Star Wars rn (the brainrot is strong). I have some Harry Potter fics that I put a lot of love and work into, but I haven't been able to engage with that fandom for... obvious reasons. I've also written for Bleach, Persona 5, Venom (the movie), Our Flag Means Death, and X-Men

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to. Sometimes it takes me a while to get around to it, and when the comment is just something like "I loved it" or "great fic" I usually won't because saying thank you over and over again is, idk, kinda weird. Usually when someone writes a really in-depth comment or theorizes or asks questions I'll respond almost immediately. It's a lot easier to reply when it feels like there's a conversation, ya know?

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is hard to answer since most of my fics are still wips lol. I'd say as of right now it'd probably be For a Son.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, same problem lmao. Also I don't tend to write happy fics.

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

Not really. I've gotten a few where people would complain about not liking some of the things I did but I wouldn't really call that hate. Just entitlement.

I've dabbled but I haven't published anything.

Nah. I'd be open to it if the inspiration ever struck me though

I don't think I have one. I'm open to basically any and every ship as long as I think they way the characters play off each other is interesting and compelling.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sigh. Empiricist. I really do love that fic and had so much fun working on it. But it is... massive. 200k words and I'm only about 1/4 the way through the plot I had. Plus the huge difficulty I have with writing Harry Potter now... I just don't think I'll be able to go back to it any time soon.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Honestly I have no idea. Apparently I am very good at delivering gut punches? (if anyone wants to tell me what they think my writing strengths are, I'd love to hear it.)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action. I don't think I'm very good at writing action at all. Also getting to the plot. I tend to get distracted by introspection and character studies and forget to the big plot points lol

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it works really well when used right. I really like it when you have a pov character who doesn't know the language, and you don't give the reader any translation for what is being said so that they are just as in the dark as the character.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Guardians of Ga-Hoole, back before I even knew what fanfic was. (I actually emailed the author to tell her about my silly little story that I had written myself inspired by her books. Apparently Kathryn Lasky didn't know what fanfic was either and was very confused by my email. I was like... 10 maybe?)

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

It changes. Star-Birth is up there because of all the cool things I've done with it and plan to do. Groundwater is probably going to be a close contender though

Word of Honor:

- Children of the Red Dust: the modern!au where ZZS is trying to adopt ZCL but WKX’s job as a Mergers & Acquisitions lawyer gets in the way, with a sprinkle of traditional chinese opera on top

20/33 chapters already done, a new one on the way. I feel vaguely positive about this and I think I can manage updating before the end of the year or the beginning of the next. I’ve updated very little this year, compared to 2022 but.. I do love the story and I want to see it through;

- They Got Exits Covered: the sci-fi!au where the author knows nothing about omegaverse trope etiquette and rolls with it anyway

2/3 chapters already done......... fellas is is bad that I can’t bring myself to finish this one? I have re-written the last chapter at least 5 times, I discovered that I hate writing smut (unfathomable, ik, considering I have written even 45k of dirty sex in the past) if it involves baby-making (??), and I hate myself every minute that I have to sit and work on this project so.......... it will take some more time I fear. the premise was good, we stan a good premise and I love the vibe I got going on but.. meh. we will see;

- (unnamed project 1): aka the noir!au that I really want to bring to the surface but currently have no energy to plan out

0/0 done, none, nada. this one is fun bc I really want to write it and I got at least two chapters done in my drafts already. I wanted shorter chapters for this one, little to no dialogue, more ambiance and vibes than plot.. it’s so close to get started...! but I want to PLAN this right. never been much of a planner tho. idk where to start. does anyone know how to go beyond the ‘plot-points checklist’ phase? bc that’s honestly all I can muster for this one and it frustrates me to no end.

Winter Begonia:

- The Way Home: which is the retelling of the entire drama, episode by episode, through the lenses of a heavier, more overt romantic vibe between the leads (basically a drama retelling with additional historical context from the novel and my own research)

14/49 chapters done and I have already drafted most plot points up to the 25th.. but see my issue here. I love this fic. I. Love. This. Fic. but I cannot focus on it until Children of the Red Dust is done, bc I need multiple steps to get this over with:

need to rewatch the drama diligently, while taking notes (would really like a dvd set of this one, but subs alas..);

need to use the existing dialogue of the show and put it on the page, describing how characters move and react on screen;

add my own new fresh scenes to the already existing plot, which takes a lot of time;

research the hell of the time period and the details of the traditional opera technicalities (bc I’m not very smart, I love to suffer and I love this stuff too much to care);

come up with ways to tie everything up nicely without it sounding cringe;

read the actual novel to tweak things and fill up details from side characters’ lives and.. if you know the original story you probably know how annoying some of the characters are, which makes it difficult to handle at times.

so....l..........I need me time to mentally prepare for that ok? but it’s a long term project and I don’t care if I have no readers. I’m cool;

- Everything will Bloom: aka the follow-up to The Way Home............so it means I have to finish that one first

2 drafted chapters done already. but I need me TONS of research for this baby. it will be set in the early 50’s so I want to get this right. which means that I am reading everything I can and sourcing everything I come across as I go and I’ve been doing this for almost 3 years now. I’m not messing around. I want these characters to have a life after the epilogue!

forget the google drive full of wips, when i first got into writing fic, due to a lack of experience, i saved it all in a private discord server and then id painstakingly copy each message one at a time to send to my friend to ask what she thought😭by the time i started using google docs instead of discord channels to save my fics, i already had 20+ individual channels for each wip i started and it was AWFUL -0/10 i do not recommend it whatsoever

i think all my writing motivation left with the wind that one week where i cranked out 10k words on a wip (i still havent finished it because 10k wasnt even Close to where the fic would come to a close and, well. im simply sealing it under the floorboards) and then proceeded to not open google docs for weeks on end. RIP to that wip but im different (bad)

im a lot more open to oc content than i used to be (when i figured out that i could write fanfiction and no one could stop me i just straight up did not touch a single oc for a long while) BUUUUT it has to be an oc i made for a fandom (my plight is that i dont know what to do with myself when the time comes to write normal ocs. i dont know how to explain it but it is so Difficult and i am Stupid)

Fanfiction is amazing writing practice but by god do I have no idea how to introduce a new universe or characters, I feel you anon. It's just so much easier to let someone else do all the work! People already care!! I already care!!! Every hole is blizzard's fault and not mine!!!!

Draco is an unattractive nerd who is vaguely aware his brain requires a body to function, but would rather build Teddy a Hogwarts Minecraft realm than acknowledge his own corporeal form. But he's weirdly good in bed. Currently 5k, maybe 15k total.

Puer Delicatus Drarry, Theo/Draco, spoilers/spoilers Angst/Smut/Hurt/Comfort Hmm... I'm going to go with "Culturally-normalized sexual abuse of young men in wizard society" for a summary. Draco Malfoy: International Monster Fucker Dramione, Draco/Monsters Crack/Smut Draco's official title is "Beast Husbandry Specialist". Hermione is his supervisor. She needs detailed reports from his assignments. So detailed. Exactly what were the girth of those tentacles, and where did they go? How did the, uhm, specialist feel about it? HOW many genders of centaurs are there? You did WHAT to them? She will take these reports to her office and read them alone now. No calls. 15-25k

Quicksilver and the Dead Drarry Pastoral horror?/Action/dubcon Draco has to learn to survive lifetime confinement to the Manor grounds alone. Lots of world building. Accidental hereditary necromancer Draco versus surprise villain. 60-80k There's actually about 10k done of this, but I didn't mention it to test the "We just want the WIP that's almost done" theory.

Written History Immortal Drarry Action/Angst Harry is a soldier from Palmyra during the 273 AD assault on the Library of Alexandria. Draco is an exiled Spartan-turned-scribe. They keep running into each other at major world conflicts, always with Harry on the wrong side of history and Draco recording it. Until Harry gets it right. 20-40k The first chapter is done and will be posted and consigned to a one-shot.

I was sitting by my window watching the lightning, I’d just finished reading Trying Through the Trauma and a particular scene was on my mind (if you’ve read it you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, and if you haven’t I highly reccomend it because that fic is wonderful, the world-building is INSANE).

So given all of that, plus my apparent desire to just hurt all the characters I love, my brain was like “hey... what if Jared got struck by lightning?”

Which I KNOW sounds absolutely ridiculous and like some kind of crack fic, but just bare with me here ok.

For maximum angst, the fic begins with Jared storming out of Evan’s house after a fight.

I haven’t worked out all of the details of the fight yet, but basically there was an attempt at an apology/discussion of Evan’s letter that didn’t go so well and things got a bit heated.

Jared’s hurt and angry, so he runs away because that’s what he does.

It’s absolutely pissing down, it’s at least a 15/20 minute walk back to his house, but Jared’s a stubborn bastard and he just needs to get out of there.

Evan’s stuck in his head trying to process how the hell that went so badly, because he’s hurt and angry too, but then a particulary loud clap of thunder snaps him out of his thoughts. He’s not sure why the hell Jared walked here instead of drove (it was because he wanted the extra time to try and plan what he was going to say to Evan), but Heidi will kill him if she finds out he just let Jared walk all the way home in this weather.

So he runs outside after Jared to tell him to stop being an idiot and at least just wait until it stops raining so much

And of course Evan catches up with Jared just in time to see him get struck

Evan is just frozen in absolute horror because what the fuck. What the fuck. Who the hell gets struck by lightning!? That just doesn’t happen in real life. What the fuck.

His brain finally catches up to him and he rushes over to Jared who’s just convulsing on the ground.

Evan’s hands are shaking but he manages to call 911. Once the ambulance is on their way he’s just staring helplessly at Jared still seizing on the ground, and all he can think is Jared is going to die and the last thing they did was fight.

Another minute or so passes and Jared’s seizure suddenly ends. Evan’s just holding his breath because he has no idea what he should do. Being a nurse and all, Heidi’s taught him how to do basic CPR incase of emergencies, but Evan’s in such a state of panic that he can’t do anything

And then Jared opens his eyes. It takes a second for the pain to catch up to him, the ringing in his ears is loud and oh fuck everything hurts his whole body is on fire

Evan is freaking the fuck out now that Jared is awake and crying, and he’s desperately trying to comfort him and is begging the ambulance to hurry the fuck up. And god this is so much worse now that Jared’s conscious, because Jared just doesn’t break down. The last time Evan probably saw him cry was when he stacked it on his bike when they were kids (unless you count the unshed tears shining in his eyes during their gfy fight and most recent fight, which Evan is pointedly NOT counting lmao, he can’t deal with that right now)

Anyway, the paramedics finally arrive and give Jared some serious painkillers and take him to the hospital because honestly they’re not really sure what to do either. It’s not like there’s a special “lightning strike survivor” class in the paramedicine curriculum lol. Jared didn’t go into cardiac arrest or anything so that’s a good sign, but he’s obviously in pain and he’s got some really nasty burns that need looking at so he’s clearly not fine.

And of course, for more maximum angst, they take him to the hospital Heidi works at. Because of course they do. Heidi’s had a fairly quiet night at work, or at least as as quiet as it can be working at a hospital. But then she overhears something about a kid who got struck by lightning!? And Heidi is like damn… well that doesn’t happen every day. She’s currently on her break but she’s understandably pretty curious, so she decides she’ll just go see what’s going on.

Which of course leads to her finding an extremely distraught looking Evan who is absolutely drenched, and any other thoughts are gone from her mind instantly.

Evan all but collapses into her arms. She’s holding him tightly as he just sobs and sobs and he’s shivering and so cold and why is he so wet? And obviously Heidi just wants to be there for him but the she’s starting to panic and she needs to know what’s wrong. She pulls away, still holding his shoulders tightly, to look him in the face.

“Evan, honey talk to me. What happened?” And he just manages to choke out “It’s Jared, it’s…. he,” but he can’t get the words out because he keeps being interrupted by his own sobs. And now Heidi is really worried because what happened with Jared? Is he ok? “He…” Evan can’t continue because he just lets out this choked cry and breaks into even harder sobs. Which causes Heidi to promptly pull him close again.

Evan is just, exhausted. Like, he was so tense and upset after the fight with Jared, and then THAT happened, and he’s been doing his best to not completely fall apart so he could explain what happened to the paramedics, but it’s just all so much, and all he wants his mum to hold him and tell him everything’s going to be ok.

“He’s hurt,” Evan says finally once his breathing is bit more under control and he can finally speak again. “He…. there was lightning and, and-”

And Heidi’s heart just stops because she suddenly remembers the boy that supposedly got struck by lightning and she does not like where this is going.

Jared’s mostly ok physically. He’s got some really nasty burns and he’s in a lot of pain, plus the strike was super loud so he’s got some bad tinnitus, but nothing that really needs monitoring. So he’s only in the hospital for a couple of days.

However, the thing with lightning strikes is it can do a lot of weird neurological damage that scientists and doctors don’t really understand yet. So a lot of survivors suffer from things like personality changes, mood swings, memory loss and chronic pain.

So in terms of symptoms for Jared he struggles with chronic pain. It’s not like a low-level constant pain, it’s more episodes where he’s in extreme pain for a short period of time and then it fades away again. He got struck on his shoulder, so the pain flares up on his shoulder and down his arm on that side of his body.

His burns take a while to heal, and whilst his tinnitus gets much better it’s always there to an extent. He’s also got some issues with fatigue, it’s not terrible but he definitely gets tired more easily than he used to.

Jared doesn’t really have any issues with like, personality changes or anything, but the whole experience was pretty tramautic, so his mental health definitely isn’t great right now.

Obviously, Jared’s pretty fucking terrified of thunderstorms now. He pretty much just refuses to leave his house if there’s a storm.

One time he’s driving himself and Evan home from school and it starts raining and he just – refuses to leave the car. There’s not even thunder but the sky is dark and it’s raining pretty heavily and Evan’s all like “It’s ok, come on. It’s two metres. Just take my hand and we’ll run inside together ok?” And poor Jared is having a panic attack, just gasping for air, and he’s shaking his head and saying “I can’t.”

And Evan kinda tries a couple more suggestions to coax him inside, because like they literally just have to walk from the driveway to Evan’s front door. There is a 0% chance that anything would happen in the 5 seconds it would take to get inside, and there isn’t even any thunder, it’s just raining heavily.

Eventually he gives up and they just sit in the car together waiting for the storm to pass. Evan can’t help but think how ironic it is that he’s the one who has to help Jared through his own panic attacks now.

But the main complications Jared struggles with are the cognititve issues. Jared’s always been pretty smart and has done well in school, so he finds it really hard to deal with.

He REALLY struggles with his memory at first. Mainly short-term memory. He’ll do things like make lunch multiple times because he forgot he ate already. He struggles with reading and writing and keeps tripping over his sentences. It all improves a lot over time, but it never quite gets 100% better.

But yeah, that’s kind of the hardest part for Jared because it’s just frustrating and confusing. It causes him a lot of distress because it makes him feel so stupid.

One time when he’s really struggling with it, maybe whilst trying to do work for school, Jared just breaks down about it because he just feels so frustrated. He ends up crying into Evan’s shoulder and going “I just want to be better”

Evan says nothing, because he’s been doing an obsessive amount of research and the truth is Jared might not ever be “better” again, and he doesn’t want to lie to Jared. Well, he certainly wants to, we all know about Evan’s lying issues lmao. He desperately wants to tell Jared comforting lies like “it’s ok” and “there’s nothing wrong with you” and “of course you’ll get better” but he holds his tongue because he knows he can’t lie to Jared, not about this.

ANYWAY ahahaha, I got a little carried away with this one but I’ve got a LOT of feelings about it. It will end up with kleinsen because I couldn’t resist, so on that note I do have just one last point I HAVE to share 🥺

So a lot of people who get struck by lightning end up with these really kind of beautiful looking scars called Lichtenberg figures. They normally only last a day or two (although I did read about one guy where they lasted like a month) but uhh.... I will be taking some artisitic liberities there lmao because imaging Evan gently tracing over Jared’s scars when they finally get together? Good shit.

Let’s Show Caution as we Rank the Sixers’ Possible Playoff Opponents

I heard a guy on 94 WIP this morning say the Sixers would beat the Rockets in the finals.

While the excitement is commendable, the rationality is questionable, which can (shockingly) be the case with sports radio callers.

That’s not to say I don’t think the Sixers can make a playoff run. We’re talking about a 50-win team that just won 14 in a row, six without Joel Embiid and a few more without Embiid AND Dario Saric. That’s one side of the coin, the fact that Philadelphia just happens to be the hottest team in basketball, a team that has artfully dismantled the dregs of the association.

The other side of the coin is caution. This isn’t me poo-pooing the Sixers’ form, it’s just a plea for discretion. This team knocked off 11 non-playoff squads during the unbeaten run, and the 3 playoff teams* dispatched all came to the Wells Fargo Center to “take the L,” as the Millennials would say. They did, however, boat-race Denver and Minnesota before showing a lot of mettle in the Cleveland win.

*(let’s count the Nuggets as a playoff team, or, more accurately, a team that still has something to play for)

That’s really the premise here; I think fans should be totally amped for Sixers playoff basketball, but just try to keep your feet on the ground. We’re talking about the same Philly team that didn’t win a single road game against the Heat, Bucks, Wizards, or Pacers this year, finishing 0-7 overall.

These are the Sixers’ road wins against Eastern Conference playoff teams:

at Boston (January 18th)

at Cleveland (March 1st)

That’s it. They beat the Cavs in Cleveland and beat Boston in Boston without Kyrie Irving.

Otherwise, they dropped four road games to those two squads, plus Toronto, giving us an overall road record of 2-11 vs. Eastern Conference playoff teams.

That’s why home court ended up being so important. You didn’t want a game seven in Indy, Miami, Washington, or Milwaukee, and now you don’t have to experience that. Plus, if one of those teams knocks off the short-handed Celtics, the Sixers take that advantage into the second round.

With all of that in mind, now that we’ve re-calibrated like the level-headed Philadelphia sports people that we are, let’s take a look at possible first-round playoff opponents:

Washington Wizards

record: 42-38

home: 22-18

away:  20-20

last 15: 5 wins, 10 losses

vs. Sixers: 2 wins, 2 losses

remaining schedule: vs. Celtics, at Magic

They’re in poor form, just five wins out of their last fifteen games and currently occupying the #8 spot.

They blew a 17-point 4th quarter lead in Cleveland, then suffered a brutal home loss to Atlanta with John Wall resting on the second night of a back-to-back. Markieff Morris was ejected in the first quarter and Marcin Gortat was asked to play a season-high 39 minutes, contributing just 6 points and 11 rebounds.

Washington sports fans are predictably dooming and glooming over what looks like another disappointing postseason outlook. The Nationals, Redskins, and Capitals haven’t exactly been lighting the playoff world on fire in recent years (and D.C. United is awful). It seems like the Wiz are ripe for the picking as they try to right the ship with Wall now back in the fold after missing a ton of games with the knee injury.

They are, however 2-2 against the Sixers this season, winning twice at home and losing twice on the road. I don’t put much stock in the season opener, a five-point loss that took place way back in October. The second game in Washington featured poor shooting nights from JJ Redick (2-10) and Marco Belinelli (3-10), and the Wizards went 54.4% from the field and 12-25 from the three point line in a 15-point win.

Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid both played well above their season averages in the four games against Washington, so even if you don’t get Jo back until game three at the latest, I still think you’re probably in good shape heading down I-95. Ben went for 20 and 11 on average in the regular season series, a number bloated a bit by the 31-points he put up in the November “hack-a-Simmons” game:

Milwaukee Bucks

record: 43-37

home: 24-16

away: 19-21

last 15: 9 wins, 6 losses

vs. Sixers: 2 wins, 1 loss

remaining schedule: vs. Magic, at Sixers

The Bucks are in a dead heat with… the Heat …for sixth place.

I’m intrigued to see how the season finale plays out. Do they really want the 7th seed and a first round matchup with Boston instead? Would they toss Wednesday’s game to position themselves more favorably?

I have no clue.

What I do know is that Giannis is a problem. He didn’t play in the January trip to Philly, a 116-94 Sixers win. But he played in both of the games in Milwaukee, leading all scorers and rebounders with 31 and 18 and 35 and 9, respectively. The Sixers blew the most recent trip to Wisconsin, a game that nobody really needs to relive.

When you look through his splits, Giannis has played two of his best games this season against Philly, performing much better than his 27 and 10 season averages. I don’t know how much that changes at the Wells Fargo Center, but a seven games series mighty get a little hairy with this team.

Jabari Parker is an interesting wrinkle, too. He only played in one game against the Sixers this year, putting up 13 points and 7 rebounds. He averaged 11 and 4 in March and is now up to 19 and 9 in four April games.

I don’t know if anyone else on the Bucks really scares you. Eric Bledsoe? Khris Middleton? They’ve got some nice pieces, but we’re talking about a 43-37 team that found a way to lose at home to Brooklyn last week. Worst case scenario is that you’d split the first four games of a Milwaukee series, then ride home court advantage to the second round.

Prediction: Sixers over Milwaukee in seven

Miami Heat

record: 43-37

home: 25-14

away:  18-23

last 15: 9 wins, 6 losses

vs. Sixers: 2 wins, 2 losses

remaining schedule: vs. Thunder, vs. Raptors

Similar to the Bucks in a lot of ways, they’re a good home team, sub-500 road team, and won both home games against the Sixers.

The first three games in this series were really close – 6 points, 2 points, and 1 point, that last game decided by a Dwyane Wade dagger with 5.9 seconds on the clock. You remember that one, yea? D Wade turning back the clock to score 15 of Miami’s final 17 points? Yep.

Not sure why, but it always feels like a couple of players have bad shooting nights against Miami. There was one game where Robert Covington went 0-10 from the field and Embiid finished 2-12 inside the three point line. That was the nine-point loss in March.

In the Wade dagger game, Redick and Covington finished 6-24. And if you want to go back to the 104-102 Philly win a few games before that one, the Embiid-less Sixers only shot 42% overall and needed a huge defensive effort to erase a 23-point halftime deficit. Even in the very first contest, Miami ripped off a 37 to 17 4th quarter in one of those vintage, blown lead 2017 games.

So they’re very close to being 1-3 vs. the Heat this year. Each of those games has been semi-harrowing for various reasons, but the good thing is that it feels like a lot of it was self-inflicted. Yea, Wade might go off every once in awhile, but I don’t think anyone looks at Goran Dragic or Hassan Whiteside and says, “yea, that’s a problem.”

Prediction: Sixers over Miami in seven

Indiana Pacers

record: 48-33

home: 27-13

away: 21-20

last 15: 10 wins, 5 losses

vs. Sixers: 2 wins, 1 loss

remaining schedule: vs. Hornets

The only way the Sixers get the Pacers in round one is if they slip up in Atlanta or against Milwaukee and allow the Cavs to reclaim the #3 seed. Cleveland finishes with a home and home against the Knicks, so I don’t think they’re taking another loss in the regular season.

I don’t like a first round matchup with Indy. They’re 10-5 in their last fifteen games and they are the last team to beat the Sixers (plus the only team to win at the Wells Fargo Center in 2018).

The Pacers kind of remind me of a Doug Collins-coached Sixers team. They don’t wow you with amazing talent necessarily, but they play a steady brand of basketball and they don’t turn the ball over or commit a lot of fouls. They hit some mid-range junk at a higher percentage than other teams, stuff like this from their most recent win over Charlotte:

Indy doesn’t shoot a ton of three pointers at all, just a lot of two-point stuff to go along with the league’s 12th-best defensive rating. They also smashed the Warriors by 20 points the other night. They actually finished 7-1 against the Warriors, Cavaliers, and Spurs this year.

Prediction: Sixers over Indy in seven

The verdict:

Washington

Milwaukee

Miami

Indy

That’s how I’d do it, in order of most preferable to least preferable. You could probably interchange Miami and Milwaukee, because I don’t see a ton really separating either team right now. The Sixers would have tricky road games in both of those series.

I think Washington is out of form, the travel to D.C. is easy, and they’re only 22-18 at home this year. They seem to be carrying a bunch of question marks into the postseason, specifically with the John Wall situation and the undeniable lack of confidence that D.C. sports fans have in their teams right now. I don’t think there’s any kind of edge or any kind of advantage that sticks out for the Wizards right now. I don’t foresee the Capital One Arena being the venue of playoff nightmares for the opposition.

Yeah, they’re still a good team, but that’s who I’d be aiming for if I was Brett Brown and Bryan Colangelo. I think the Sixers beat the Wizards in six, but I could easily see a series with the other three teams going to game seven, depending, of course, on the health of Joel Embiid.
