“ holy shit... how long have you gone like this? “
- with whoever you want ^_^
These lovely robots are courtesy of @shmunter
Another patrol of guards scanned the building, making their third round of the block in the last few days. Illiana didn’t like giving Pricilla anything close to props for anything, but she was persistent. Annoyingly, infuriatingly persistent. Thankfully Illiana was definitely worse in that department so if the purple bitch thought that she was going to keep Illiana cooped up with some shows of force, she was dead wrong.
She just- she just needed to put a half decent plan together.
Which was easier said than done with Milo just coming back to full capacity only a couple days prior. The shots were brutal, meant to completely incapacitate and kill her and he’d gone and dove in front of them without a second thought. The idiot. She ran a hand through her wires, wincing at the still exposed gaps in her shell.
Capable and deadly assassin? Check. Completely infallible? Unfortunately no. She took them down but the lucky bastards got in a good hit or two.
Her nanobots should’ve patched this up by now, but she wasn’t exactly going anywhere fast so no harm no foul. A day or two of extra rest would be fine.
A slight buzzing hum forewarned Illiana of the incoming beetle-bee hug. A yellow blur barreled into her side and chirped merrily.
“Hey Vin-vin, what are you doing out of the lab?”
The little yellow bot shook his head and motioned for someone behind him, and Milo stepped out, new faceplate piece fully secured. Illiana nodded in approval bringing a hand to her chin.
“Going for the contrast look, I like it, I like it.”
Vinnie gave a small thumbs up too, revving his wings.
“Haha, very funny. You only like it because it’s your color.”
Milo rolled his eyes as he walked into the room, steady on his feet and with both optics working. Illiana gave him a wink.
“I have excellent taste, what can I say? But seriously, I am glad to see you up and about. Vex finally cleared you?”
“They couldn’t wait to get me out of there. Said something about wanting to do something new with their face plates now that I’ve got them all ‘inspired’.”
“Yeah that sounds about right for them. Hopefully with all the commotion going around they won’t make us attend another fake funeral. The first couple were fun, but now I think they’re testing how much they can get away with.”
Blinking, Milo turned away, peering down to the street below.
“I’m not sure what to say to that.”
“Better not to,” Vinnie scuttled up onto Illiana’s back, hitting one of the still healing wounds. She twitched with a shudder that ran up her mainframe. Shit that hurt. The little guy was heavier than he looked. Scooping Vinnie up, and away from any other open wounds, she cradled him and gave him a few good head pats.
“You didn’t know it’s okay,” Illiana muttered to Vinnie.
Warm liquid ran down Illiana’s back, and she swore slightly. They’d opened up the wound and it was leaking now. Great. She really liked this outfit too, but now she either had to destroy it or clean it quickly enough that no one would notice the stain.
“Oh bolts, Illiana are you hurt?!”
Damnit he noticed the stain.
"That? I got nicked a little but it's totally fine.
Milo's face fell and Illiana remembered that he could, in fact, do scans for injuries. They helped him with his job. Right. He stepped closer and sat down on the window bench beside her, holding a hand up and looking to Illiana for permission to examine her injuries.
She took off her (his) jacket, giving him a curt nod.
Better to get this over with.
“Holy shit… Illiana how long have you gone like this?!”
Milo traced a hand over the cuts and wounds, face switching between a look of soft concern and concentration. She couldn’t help but twitch whenever his hand came near, the sensation almost like touch but not. Like phantom electricity. Not exactly unpleasant though. She could almost feel his focus on her.
“Getting you here was a bit trickier than I planned for, but then again I didn’t exactly plan for you jumping in front of a blaster volley like an idiot.”
Light pink flickered on Milo’s screen, “It felt like the right thing to do at the time. But… thank you for saving me. You didn’t have to but you did.”
“Of course I did. Any enemy of Miss Priss is a friend of mine.”
“Friend huh?” Milo smiled, “That sounds nice. And as a friend I’m going to drag you to Vex.”
“What? Come on, it’s not that bad. They have more important things to worry about.”
A hand wrapped around hers, and Milo pulled at it slightly, nodding towards the door. It was a familiar gesture, one they’d used in more than one crowded place but it felt more… she didn’t know.
Frankly she didn’t want to look too hard into it. But she let him tug her into Vex's lab.
At least they wouldn't be making their next plan alone. It was... nice to have a team.

"Bad Together"
Part I: Contact
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter Parker x Reader
Teen and up
Warnings: language, UST.
"Baby, I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down, eat you alive
Just like animals"
Animals - Maroon 5
“Hey kid! Rough night? You look like shit…”
You sighed, turning away from your door to face your neighbour. Had it been anyone else, you would just have given them the finger and gotten inside your apartment. But not her. Not when she could have information for you.
“Gee, thanks Jess! You do know how to sweet talk a girl.”
The seemingly -deceptively- fragile brunette’s eyeroll could have rivaled your own signature one, as she kicked away from the wall and crossed the hallway in your direction.
“As if sweet talking would work on you…”
Despite your exhaustion and bad mood, you managed to munster a small sad smile as your mind wandered unbidden to another time, to what felt like another life.
And to a boy with warm brown eyes and even warmer skin.
"You'd be surprised…"
Jessica raised a questioning eyebrow, but you just shook your head.
"I have your payment, if that's what you're looking for…"
You said, changing the subject. Her face fell, causing your heart to drop to your stomach. You knew that look. The regret in her green eyes, the pity. You knew what she was going to say even before she opened her mouth. It wasn't really surprising after all: fourteen months without any clues, without any new developments or witnesses? She wanted to drop the case.
"Listen, kid-"
"No" you cut her off, your voice breaking no arguments, "whatever you're going to say, I won't accept it. I pay you, and you keep on looking for my sister. That's how this works. Let's not fuck this beautiful friendship of ours up."
You added, only partly sarcastic. You were perfectly aware that, as closed off and damaged as you both were, you were probably the closest thing to a friend either of you had.
And, for her part, Jessica knew that, if she didn't do the dirty work for you, you would be the one crawling up vents and climbing up balconies, sliding your way into seedy bars and even seedier alleys. You were stubborn like that. And truth be told, she had grown a little protective of you.
She pursed her lips, the wheels turning inside her head.
"Well then," she finally proposed, "What about you pay me when I actually find something worth paying for?"
It took your drowsy brain a moment to process her words. You were ashamed of the moisture that found its way to your eyes, the knot in your throat that didn't allow you to let out anything more than a weak "Jessica" as a reply. But you were too worn out to be able to keep the emotions at bay. It had been too long since anyone had shown you that type of kindness, gratefulness was not something you were used to feeling.
"I'm not giving up on the case," she promised, "but I'm not taking your money anymore. At least not until I deserve it."
She was telling the truth, you knew her enough to be able to tell that. If anything, she was going to work even harder to try and get the investigation moving.
"Thank you."
You really meant it.
"Don't mention it” she shrugged, downplaying it, like every good deed she made. "Now get inside and get some sleep. You look dead."
You did roll your eyes at that, missing her affectionate smirk as you disappeared through the door, muttering a laconic. "Yes, mom."
The darkness and quiet that greeted you inside your apartment felt like a soothing balm to your over stimulated mind, a much needed respite after your long, adrenaline filled evening. That was why you didn't even bother to turn the lights on as you let your backpack fall anywhere on the tile floor, stepping out of your sneakers and pulling your shirt over your head.
The cold early morning breeze sent goosebumps along your skin, bringing your attention to the open window.
You froze. You were always very careful not to let any windows open, Hell's Kitchen was a tough neighbourhood for a spoiled cat like your Selina to be out and about.
A flash of movement at the corner of your eye was all you needed before your senses went haywire again, instinct kicking in as you jumped high in the air to twirl and land a kick to the back of whoever was in your apartment. But the intruder was expecting it, dodging just in time and turning around to block your punch. Getting a hold of your wrist, the dark figure twisted and pulled you forwards until you fell, back flushed against his chest as he wrapped his arms around yours in a vice-like grip, effectively immobilizing you.
"Easy there, Smokey." A way too familiar voice breathed against your ear, "you're going to hurt yourself."
You stopped struggling against his grasp. Right. Of course it was him.
"Peter?"
His grip grew tighter for a moment, before letting go.
"Hello, Y/N."
Just like that, it all came back to you: The memories you had tried to repress, the feelings you had tried so hard to bury, washing over you like a flood, a tsunami hitting you hard enough to knock the breath out of your lungs once again. As you took an unsteady step away from him, you prayed that Peter hadn't noticed.
"What are you doing here?"
"Nice place," Peter ignored your question, choosing to casually pace your living room instead. "Bit of a downgrade from the upper west side, though…"
"Fine," you scoffed, turning to him, "you wanna do small talk? Let's do small talk: what’s with the edgelord look?" You pointed at his tar-black suit.
"Biotech," the suit retracted from his face and head, reminding you of the nanobots suit he used to wear before Dr. Octopus destroyed it. "Do you like it?"
You shrugged,
"Stark industries?"
He shook his head.
"Horizon Lab."
Well, that was interesting. You knew the little, independent company owned by one of his ex-girlfriends had helped him manufacture a couple of special suits developed from his very own webs, after his emancipation from the Starks. But you had no idea they had reached such level of refinement, and you had a feeling neither did Fury.
"You like it?"
"You look… taller," You noted. That wasn't the only difference; his hair was longer, wilder, his shoulders wider, his arms far bigger than you recalled.
"You look exactly the same," he countered, as open as he had always been. "Just as beautiful as I remembered…"
You sighed, tiredly. You didn't have the energy for that — for his charm, his candidness. What was more, you weren't prepared at all.
No, you weren't prepared for this Peter. Your Peter. Not after what all that Fury had told you…
"What do you want, Peter?"
He leveled you with a look, his whole demeanor changing in the blink of an eye.
"I could ask you the exact same thing…"
"What do you mean?"
"Come on, Y/N. Don't play dumb with me, it doesn't suit you." His sudden bluntness surprised you, but it was more along the lines of what Fury had warned you to expect so it didn't completely manage to throw you off.
You crossed your arms, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Really, now?" Peter took a step forward, towering over you. "You don't? Hanging out at my spots, patrolling my neighbourhood, taking down my thugs?" He enumerated.
"Your thugs?"
"The kingpin is mine," he growled.
"Since when?"
"You fucking know since when!" You tried to hide your flinch at his rising tone, but he must have noticed because a moment later, he was closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose, visibly trying to get a hold of himself.
"I thought Queens was your neighbourhood…" You spoke, trying to diffuse the tension after a couple beats had passed without him moving.
"Yeah, well," he shrugged, opening his eyes, "I relocated."
"So did I…"
"You did," he smiled. And just like that, he was back at being your Peter. "And you mean to tell me all of this." He pressed a button in his wrist, "isn't to get my attention?"
A hologram version of Jade's video started to play in front of your impassive eyes. And you might have thought your carefully constructed mask of indifference gave away nothing, but Peter could see right through it. You didn't seem surprised to see the video and that alone was enough proof for him to confirm his theory.
"Please, Smokey, security footage?" He smirked, "this isn't like you. You aren't this sloppy."
Another click and the video was gone.
"Well, this might come as a surprise to you, but everything isn't always about you."
"Then what's going on?"
"None of your fucking business!"
Before you could react, the floor disappeared from under your feet, and your back hitted the wall with enough force to rattle the windows.
"Like hell it isn't," Peter hissed, his weight pinning you upright. "Now tell me, what the fuck did you get yourself into this time?"
As you stared into his stormy eyes, heart racing inside your chest, unsure if the adrenaline coursing through your veins was because of the obvious threat in front of you, or for another reason entirely, you wondered exactly the same.
Your tongue came out to moist your lips, Peter's dark pupils following the movement.
"It's been over a year," you breathed out, all the fight leaving you. It was too much, his sweet breath fanning over your face, every inch of his hard body pressed up against yours, overpowering you, the slick texture of his new suit against your bare chest… it was intoxicating. You had overestimated yourself. "Why do you even care?"
"I will always care about you," he confessed softly, just as affected by the closeness as you. "I will always want you…"
You closed your eyes, trying to get your erratic heart under control.
"Maybe I don't want you anymore, Peter."
He pushed you harder against the wall, his forearm against your collarbone to prevent you from moving.
"Don't do that," he whispered, lips ghosting over yours. "Don't torture me."
"Peter…"
BAM.
You fell to your knees, hard, Peter's body suddenly no longer supporting your weight.
"Touch her again, and I'll kill you!"
"J-Jess?"
"Hey, kid. You alright?" Your neighbour barely even spared you a glance over her shoulder as she placed herself between you and a newly irate looking Peter, slowly getting up from the rumble of splinters of wood and shards of glass that used to be your coffee table.
"What are you doing here?" You asked in confusion.
"I heard a noise," she deadpanned, eyes never leaving the dark cladded vigilante. But to your surprise Peter merely raised his hands in surrender, the bulk of his rage vanishing the moment he understood the woman in front of him was only trying to protect you.
"This isn't what it looks like…" He tried to explain, but Jessica would have none of it.
"Yeah, sure" she scoffed. "Big guy, totally dressed, pinning a half naked girl to the wall in the dark... totally not rapey."
Peter flinched. She was right, he wouldn't believe himself either.
"Listen, you're Jessica Jones, right?" Recognizing the woman in front of him, suddenly your choice in real state made a lot more sense. "I am- I was," he quickly corrected himself, "Peter Parker. Your friend, Matt Murdock, he knows me… look, I'm not- I'm not a bad guy."
Even to his ears, he sounded unconvincing.
"Really?" Jess pointed at his black costume, "Cause you definitely look like a bad guy."
"I… Y/n, help me out here," he threw you a pleading look but Jess moved to the side, blocking you from view.
"Hey, fuckface!" She snapped, drawing Peter's attention back to her, "the only reason I'm not kicking your ass right now is because of Matt. But if I ever see you next to Y/N ever again, I'll break every single bone of your body. Twice. Now get the fuck out of here, before I run out of fucking patience."
"Y/N?"
You sighed, getting up. Away from him, and with Jess there as a boofer between the both of you, you were no longer under the influence and could clearly see exactly how fucked up the situation was.
"I think you should leave, Peter."
There was a flash of hurt in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a mask of indolence as he squared his jaw and turned away, letting the bio-suit close over his head again.
"I looked for her too, you know?" He admitted, before making his exit through the same window he had come in from.
You had no time to dwell on his words or anything of what had just happened, before Jess was on your face.
"That was Peter? Your sister's boyfriend, the one you told me I didn't need to investigate?"
You resisted the urge to shrink under her look,
"Yeah…"
"You told me he was harmless. That did not look harmless!"
You couldn't really argue with that, so you didn't. Instead you gestured at her to be quiet, as you reached past her to pick up your phone, your landline phone, the one you had never bothered connecting.
The one you knew was bugged.
With voice as clear and steady as you were able to manage, you spoke into the mic,
"Contact made. Awaiting further instructions."
To be continued...

A Heart in Crisis
Summary: Angst, post Kara finding out the truth - The Monitor delivers a prophecy of Kara’s death, and Lena isn’t dealing so well.
The irony was almost poetic. Not long ago, Lena had lied to Kara about seeing apocalyptic visions in her dreams. Now, she was living that reality. Every time Lena closed her eyes, she saw her world die.
It started with the visions she’d seen before but didn’t truly understand at the time. Nanobots consuming Supergirl in Jack’s lab. Kara crashing into the ground, bloody and broken and a breath away from death after her fight with Reign. Kryptonite infecting her body from her toes to her eyelids as the very air poisoned her, lighting up her veins with sickness.
It only went downhill from there. Lena started dreaming about her own simulations, watching Kara die by her own hand. When she awoke she would run to the bathroom, emptying the contents of her stomach (which unfortunately did not include the crippling anxiety that seemed to find its home there). She had even shut Hope off entirely, dizziness overcoming her the second she heard that automated voice. Hope only ever inquired as to her well-being, but all Lena heard was a robot who had offered to kill Supergirl.
Finally came the images she’d never seen before. The Monitor with his hands around Kara’s neck. Anti-matter consuming only her, leaving the world untouched around it. And no matter which dream her mind chose from the lottery, it always ended with his voice.
“In order for billions to survive this coming crisis, Supergirl must die.”
That was the message the Monitor had brought. They had all stood frozen - Alex, Brainy, Jonn, Nia, and Lena, until Kara flew off into the sky, not willing (or able) to look or talk to any of them.  It was Brainy who approached Lena, concern painting his features. She had not moved for ten minutes.
“I don’t think I have a big enough box for this,” she whispered to him. Brainy just stood awkwardly beside her, his own boxes not sturdy enough to stop the flow of tears. It’d been two weeks since that day, and they still hadn’t spoken. Whether it was because of Lena’s own lies or because of Kara’s impending doom - it did not matter. All that mattered was that each day was another day closer to reaching Kara’s fate, and every morning when Lena woke it was like a new setting had been added to her panic meter. Inside, Lena felt like there was a doomsday clock ticking on her heart. For whether they were best friends or worst enemies, that was exactly what Lena would lose.
Her sole focus became researching anti-matter. She’d never been a religious person, so as far as she was concerned, God and his prophecies could go fuck himself. Just because she wasn’t speaking with Kara didn’t mean she couldn’t help. Alex, while wearing a harsh scowl, gave her bits and pieces of information, but it made no difference. There was not enough time in the universe, apparently, for her to fix or even understand this problem. She stayed in the lab for three days, avoiding dreams and barely eating. When she practically collapsed on one of her test tubes, Lena knew it was time to go home. Without the strength to make it to her room, Lena collapsed on the couch with the sound of the television in the background to hopefully block her dreams. Her rest doesn’t last long. She wakes in a sweat, the Monitor’s words still echoing in her ears. However, it’s when she sees Supergirl on the television, battered and bruised from her latest battle, that all thought of sleep flies from her mind. First, she has to pinch herself, squeezing her eyes together to try and wake up once more. Kara has a single cut on her forehead from the battle, but Lena knows how the rest of the story will go. When the news story changes three minutes later, Lena cries with relief. However, her tears turn hot and angry quickly, and before she can change her mind Lena hits the S on her watch, right before throwing it against the wall. Somehow it still shocks her how fast Kara arrives, even after everything that transpired between them. With a whoosh and a thud, Kara barrels into the apartment, scanning the area for immediate danger before focusing on Lena. Behind the look of panic in Kara’s eyes, there is only exhaustion. It is the look of a woman whose mind and body have not stopped moving for days. Lena recognizes the image like it is an old friend. With one hand, Kara rubs the worry from her face, replacing it with exasperation.
“Lena, no matter what happens, I will always be here to help you. But the next time you hit that watch there better be a real--” The still bleeding cut on Kara’s forehead snaps Lena into action. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
The words are unexpected, and Kara doesn’t have an immediate response for Lena. Instead, Kara’s face scrunches and she stares at Lena as if trying to see inside her mind. Considering the x-ray vision, Lena guesses that with the intensity of her gaze, that could be exactly what Kara is doing. Lena tries to remain as stoic as possible, pushing her anger to the forefront and allowing it to seep into each muscle to hide everything else she is feeling underneath. Seeming to give up on observing Lena, Kara sighs. “What do you want from me?” “For you to stop being a moron.”
“Which would include, what, exactly? For me to stop saving people? To run away from this Crisis?”
“To act like you don’t have a death wish!” “No! You don’t get to do that!” Kara bellows, edging closer with her finger pointing right between Lena’s chest. “You don’t get to worry about my fate when you’ve been killing me inside your head for months.”
One more thing Lena had to thank Leviathan for: knowing what happened inside her simulations and making sure to tell Kara. Lena’s heart winced, and as much as she wanted to unleash on Kara, to accuse her in return and make her hurt as badly as she was, Lena had no time to be distracted from the issue at hand. “Haven’t you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy, Kara?” Kara turned to leave, exiting out the balcony door. “I don’t have time for this.”
Lena followed after her. “Croesus, the King of Lydia, asked the Oracle of Delphi in Greece if he should go to war with Persia. The oracle tells him that if he goes to war, he will destroy a great kingdom. So he does. But Croesus loses, and has to admit that it was his own empire he destroyed.” With a hand on the balcony’s edge, Kara faces Lena. “What’s your point, Lena?” “Believing that you are going to die might be the only reason you eventually do.” She throws the words into the air like punches. “The Monitor must know this and you are playing into his hands.”
There was no flicker in Kara’s eye that told Lena she was learning new information. In fact, the words seemed to bounce of Kara like they were bullets that had been shot at her a hundred times before. In front of Lena’s eyes, Kara transformed. The invulnerable hero deflated like a puppet whose strings had been dropped. “Whether that’s true or not,” Kara began softly. “If the Monitor knows what we must do to defeat this Crisis...then that’s what we must do.” Lena could feel an eruption rise inside of her. Of what, she couldn’t be certain. Anger, despair, sadness, desperation...she had been blocking her own emotions for a lifetime and could barely identify them anymore. That’s why Kara was different. For three years, she had made Lena feel every day, Lena being unable to build a wall strong enough to block out the girl of steel. Even after learning of Kara’s betrayal, Lena was helpless against the Kryptonian, and that absolutely terrified her. But not more than her dreams. And not more than the crestfallen look on Kara’s face.
“You’ve given up.” Kara clenched her fists. “We have to save the universe, Lena, no matter the cost.”
“You are my universe, Kara!” Without meaning to, Lena marches up to Kara, their faces inches away from each other. So close together, Lena could identify the wet blanket covering Kara’s eyes, though it becomes obscured when her own vision turns blurry. She ignores the tears, though it’s harder to ignore Kara’s sharp intake of breath or the newfound proximity of their bodies. She presses on regardless. “Why do you think I did it all? I was told that my entire universe was a lie. The very foundations of my life were taken from me. The one thing that made me believe in people, in goodness, in myself...” Lena trailed off, giving up on keeping her composure.
Kara’s lips began to quiver. “Why didn’t you just tell me that? Instead of pretending you were fine?” The words come out as a squeak, slipping between sobs. Lena scoffed, though it came out as more of a hiccup. “And have an honest conversation? How was I supposed to do that when we’ve never had one before?” Kara brings a hand up to Lena’s cheek, stroking away her tears with her thumb. Lena doesn’t have the energy to pull away, nor does she want to. The soft comfort in Kara’s eyes is like a gravitational pull, barely allowing Lena to blink. “I wish I had the time to apologize one thousand times over,” she begins, something laced in her tone that Lena does not have the capacity to hear. “If it took the rest of my life, I would spend every day trying to convince you how sorry I am. Call me an idealist, but, even if that life is cut much shorter than I thought it would be...I still hope I can.”
Every piece of armor fell from Lena’s body in a single breath. She raises her hand and places it over Kara’s, leaning her cheek against Kara’s palm. Her eyes shut as she tries to stop more tears from escaping, having lost enough over the past few months. “Please, Kara. Please, fight this.”
Kara presses her forehead to Lena’s. “I promise, I will always fight for you.” Kara kisses Lena so softly that it could almost have been mistaken for the wind. Lena can’t help but react immediately, pressing back harder and searching for more. She needs more. Time is ticking in her ear, the air getting thinner around her, and her breath dissipating from her lungs. But none of it matters if she can keep Kara on that balcony with her - not even the entire universe vanishing. But too much has happened. The mixed taste of tears on their lips remind them of everything that has transpired in the past months, the conversations they haven’t had, and the boxes Lena hasn’t opened. Kara pulls back first, their eyes meeting and glimmering with all those unspoken words. Lena swipes her finger slowly over the cut on Kara’s forehead, but the intimate gesture combined with longing stares becomes too much to bear for either of them. Without a word, Kara steps away. She keeps her gaze locked with Lena’s as she walks backward, one, two, then three steps. Lena becomes aware of nothing else in the world but the space between them. Somehow, even after the last few months, Kara had never seemed further away. “How could you think I would want you to die?” Lena rasps. Kara begins to float, hovering underneath dimmed stars. “It’d be easier if you did. I wouldn’t have to say goodbye.” In an instant, she vanishes, and Lena is left alone with her despair and the words that were left in the air unspoken.
I hope you enjoyed! I am so excited for Crisis - is it too much to ask for Kara to temporarily die and for Lena to be present? Maybe? Part 2

Not Alone [Train Heartnet x Reader]
Pairig: Train x Reader
[masterlist]
Being carried in bridal style was reserved for a wedding night, not for bleeding with slowly fading conscious. At least, it was what you always thought. You coughed and looked at person cradling you in his arms. You moved your trembling hand to his cheek.
“Train…” you choked, grabbing his attention. “Why?” “Why what?” You coughed yet again and noticed that your hand left bloody fingerprints on his cheek. “Why did you came back for me?” You were at verge of tears. Few hours ago, you were left alone with Eve in your room at hideout. Sven and Train went to obtain information. While the little girl read, you took a shower. You were startled when you heard noise from the room across, picking your pajamas and dressing up, you leaned out of the bathroom doors. Unfamiliar man in poncho stood with his back turned to you. Unsheathing your dagger you creeped behind him. He turned around with beaten up Eve in  his hands. “Who are you?” you asked. “I’m looking for Train Heartnet. Where is he?” the man turned to you. His face was obstructed with a hat and red bandana, so you could only see his eyes. You glanced at Eve, she was unconscious and bleeding. “What’s your business with Train?” you asked, not losing your calm. Being former assassin taught you to be careful. Especially if the man got a hostage in his hands. “I heard he's the best gunman in the world, I’m here to prove him, that’s not true. My name is Glaster Durham and I'm the greatest gunman.” He showed you the wall. The letters written in blood contained the message about the challenge. His gaze was fixated on you as he reached for his  gun. He let go Eve on the floor and aimed at you. “Now, this one didn’t want to tell me, how about you?” Deciding to not lose your chance, you leaped at the man and knocked off his revolver. Gun was sent flying as you aimed your kick on his neck. He didn’t make a move to dodge and with a slight satisfaction you hit with a full force, only to feel pang of pain in your feet. You winced and looked at his face. His mouth was hidden behind metal mask. You swung your dagger at him only to be blocked. He caught your hand and kicked you in the stomach. An old wound reopened leaving you bleeding and breathless. You saw dangerous glint in his eyes as he kicked you again. You stumbled back and taking out second dagger you tried to pierce through his chest. Once again you were stopped, this time he shot a bullet through your arm. The metal mask uncveiled a hidden gun. You blacked out. When you woke up, you were in the woods. Stumbling to sit straight, you heard gunshots in the distance. You coughed and winced when you felt your arm bleeding. You teared part of your shirt and tied the cloth around the wound. With a slight dizziness you stood up. You needed to get back to the hideout and take care of Eve. Then, call Sven and Train to tell them about this mad man. Only problem was, you didn’t know where exactly you should go. Gunshots echoed through the forest, following more shouts. You noticed two figures leaping through the trees. “Train!” you gasped as your eyes widened in recognition. He came to duel with the Durham guy. Why would he do that? You watched two man shooting at each other. Both of them were quick and deadly. You couldn’t take your eyes from them as you leaned to support yourself on a tree. Your nostrils hit the smell of smoke. You had to close your eyes as explosion shook the woods. After smoke cleared you saw Durham on the ground and Train standing above him. You moved forwards and leaned on another tree. They exchanged few words, you couldn’t hear because of the ringing in your ears. Train was pointing the gun at Durham’s head. You suddenly remembered why you were shot in a first place; you didn’t know he had hidden gun. “Train!” you shrieked grabbing his attention. “Watch out for the mask!” At the same time Durham shot, causing loud explosion. Train was sent backwards as more shots followed. To your relief he seemed okay. He shot one bullet, destroying the gunners revolver. You breathed out, wincing at the pain. You couldn’t stand any longer as your legs gave out. Train caught you in midway. “Got’cha!” he picked you up. “Are you okay, _______? Did he do anything to you?” “Huh? No, but… why are you here?” you asked. He grinned down at you and started walking. “What do you mean? I will always come and catch you!” “Oh…” This is how you ended up, with a question popping in your mind. Why did he came back for you? Train wasn’t one to be provoked. If he didn’t want to do something, he’d simply didn't. You were sure the challenge was pointless, so why? You asked him and he focused his gold eyes on you. “I will always come back for you. You’re important to me and I won’t let anyone harm you.” You gasped and tried to blink back the tears. “N-no one has ever came back for me…” you sobbed. “My father, he left me on a road. My friend, she was too scared. I was always a-alone.” “You’re no longer alone, _______,” he smiled gently at you. “Thank you…” you whispered letting yourself fall unconscious. *** Next time you woke up, you felt faint smell of medication and cleaning utensils; you guessed you were in a hospital. It turned out to be the truth, because as soon as you opened your eyes you noticed intravenous drip above your head. “_______, you woke up!” you heard muffled voice. You blinked and noticed Train sitting on a chair beside your bed, devouring a sandwich. “Train,” you frowned. You remembered everything that happened. “What about Eve? Is she okay?” “Don’t worry,” he smiled. “She healed herself two days ago, you know, the nanobots and all.” “Two days ago? How long am I here?!” you looked at him panicked. You winced when you felt pain in your arm. Train laughed at you and took another bite of his sandwich, it suddenly reminded you that you were hungry. “Three days,” he replied. You fell on your bed, sighing. Few minutes later a nurse came with a new drip and promised to bring you something to eat. The dinner turned out to be tasteless soup, and even worse chicken. When the nurse was gone you showed the food onto the shelf. “Share with me,” you addressed Train. He was in a middle of eating his third sandwich. “I’m not eating this.” You pointed at the hospital food and took Train’s sandwich. He protested a little, but gave in after one pleading look prom you. With a satisfaction you bit the sandwich. “Grumpy cook _____ strikes again,” he said with a cheeky smile. You rolled your eyes. It wasn’t your fault that you were picky when it came to food, unlike certain assassin. “Hey, isn’t it called ‘indirect kiss’?” “Wha-?!” you choked. After you gulped down the bite you huffed. “It’s called taking a bite. A bite!” “You sure?” “I am,” you said as he smirked and leaned on his elbow. Still slightly pink you munched the sandwich. You smiled to yourself. You still weren’t sure about your feelings towards Train. Sure, you’ve gone through a lot together since your meeting at Torneo’s mansion. He helped you with your resolve to not kill anymore and somehow accepted you. You liked the way he was, you liked the way he smiled. You liked his goofy antics and how he always knew how to cheer you up. He appreciated your cooking and always asked what was for dinner when you stayed at hideout. His presence was dazzling and made your heart flutter. You didn’t understand this feeling, you were taught to not feel anything. But you knew, that you actually liked that state of mind. What you didn’t know, was that Train stayed beside your bed for these three days and refused to leave.
