Blackpink: The Album Review
Okay, this is the first time i’ve done this and the truth is i don’t know how, so i’ll just try my best.
First of all: I am a Jennie biased blink. That means I have no trustworthy sense of criticism when it comes to them and if you do, this is probably not the place for you. I will try to talk about this album with a sense of criticism, but sometimes, i’m just gonna like a song because it’s blackpink and y’all just gotta deal with it.
BUT, I am not afraid of saying i don’t like things that the pinks have said it to like, which is actually how i’m starting this review. So, if you guys are all about loving the girls and emotion and “think about how they must feel” this is a decision made by the girls, this place is also not for you either. I am a blink and i share a lot of love for those four women, but i am also a consumer of their work as artists. I will complain if I didn’t get something I thought was necessary as a viewer and listener for my money and attention to be spent. I will not, of course, hate on them in any way.
Ok, before anything:
1) English isn’t my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes. 2) Here, we’re gonna talk about the cover, pre-release single choices, writing credits, tracklist and my honest opinion about the album as a whole.
a) The Cover:
There’s not a lot to talk about but the fact that it’s gorgeous, but simple. I didn’t understand why a crown if the name was The Album (something unoriginal to be honest, but i’m not 100% against it) and there’s no reference to royalty throughtout the album besides maybe Jennie’s rap “didn’t want to be a princess”. I did find the cover visually pleasing tho, could be much more embarrasing.
b) Writing credits and Track List:
This one is quick. I’m extremely glad Jennie and Jisoo were credited as songwriters (Jennie as well as a composer) but Teddy gotta give Danny Chung to god. He hates rapper Jennie and he’s the reason Lisa doesn’t write. He’s always in charge of the raps so teddy gets confortable and Lisa doesn’t get a chance to write her own verses, which is something the sure thing cover showed us she can do. Also, he hates rapper Jennie to the point where she had to write her rap on the title track (wich is good, but, you know what i mean) and wasnt even given a chance to write more than 8 seconds. Melanie I hope this is the last time you were here. Loren you can stay. Tommy and Ryan yall were cute we had fun but it’s over let’s move one (seriously, these producers really made me appreciate Teddy more lmao pls sir never leave us). Okay that’s it. Now, to the track list.
I will be talking about the fact this shouldn’t even be called a full album on the My Honest Opinion About The Album As A Whole topic.
1. How You Like That
I say my opinion more detailed on the next topic but at at essence. Cute. A good opener to the album and what is to come, but too much of a bside to even be a pre release single.
6.5/10
2. Ice Cream
Again, my opinion it’s on the next topic. Cute song. Loved Chaennie’s high notes and wish i didn’t know english so the rap didnt sound that silly. Not as bad as blinks and non blinks make it out to be.
6.12/10
3. Pretty Savage
I kinda also talked about that in the next topic lmao. It has everything a blackpink song should have. There’s been some controversy about Lisa “born skinny bitch” but Lisa was talking about herself since she has been body shamed through her whole career. She was right and she should say it. You’re entitled to feel uncomfortable but that’s just the thing she wasn’t talking about me or you. She was taking her pain and wearing like an armor. This was a diss track for the haters. Taking that away from her because of our own issues it’s kinda mistreating hers.
8.82/10
4. Bet You Wanna
Yes you guessed it right I talk more about it next topic. It’s a bop. Loved Jennie here. She has such a versatile voice I was very proud to hear her. And Cardi was also good. Just hope Lisa will get her rap part live cause she didn’t have much lines here. But I loved Jenlisa’s brigde. Rosé’s adlibs peak perfection and Jisoo’s chorus and english that’s what i’m talking about. The chorus can be a little repetitive and it kinda ends a bit suddenly but it doesnt bother me much.
8.37/10
5. Lovesick Girls
WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS MASTERPIECE OTHER THAN BEST BLACKPINK TITLE TRACK? Love that for me. It was so different than anything they’ve done so far, the lyrics were AMAZING, the message behind it also, the visuals in the MV, storylinne, RAPPER JENNIE OMG, she got the most memorable line “didn’t want to be a princess, i’m priceless” i love her tf the shade to the yg princess title and her scene in the car and in the mental hospital(will not touch on the controversies cause that was annoying) also Lisa’s rap/singing with a flow in the begining her voice OMG I WAS SHOOKEDT. Jisoo’s high note in the brigde? Rosé?? perfect.
10/10
6. Crazy Over You
Rapper Jennie for the last time with a 8 second rap again but LET’S BE POSITIVE. A bop. I loved the i. went. crazy. over. you. I love the lyrics. It bother a bit this much english but it’s bp’s idendity so i’m fine with it.
8.5/10
7. Love To Hate Me
This was a predictable song in the best possible way. Easily one of their best songs. There’s honestly nothing left to say. Also. Lisa’s rap. Maybe Danny Chung deserves some points. It even felt like she was a feat in the song like her flow yall just perfection.
9.4/10
8. You Never Know.
Great song I left with depression.
I like how this album talks with haters and blinks, it really shows a different side from the pinks. Only a few know the emotion Jennie starting off “but you never know unless you walk in my shoes [...] cause everybody sees what they wanna see, it’s easier to jugde it than to believe”. It was written by Loren, a close friend from the girls and the boy who’s Jenlichaeng  boyfriend in the LSG’s MV and Bekuh Boom, a producer who’s been with them for really long, but if anyone got a conspirancy theory that they were involved in the songwriting process of the song, sign me up. You don’t need proves. I believe you. ALSO JISOO GOT MOST LINE ON THIS ONE and we got singer Lisa. After a while, it become my favorite song from the album. Now, it’s my favorite song from their discography. Debate your mother.
9.62/10
c) Pre-Release single Choices:
I can’t stress about this enough. Whoever was in charge for the single choices needs to go to jail. Not that HYLT is bad (at all) but comparing to the rest of the songs, it look MUCH more like a powerful bside than Love To Hate Me and Pretty Savage ever will. I will lecture later how Pretty Savage was the perfect choice to first release single, just wait. Now, to the controversial Ice Cream. To be honest, i found the song super cute and i think the MV was one of their best. It was different and refreshing, love that for me. But the whole sequence of events that turned out to that disasterous twitter timeline, with constant attacks to the girls especially Lisa over things they cannot control such as line distribuition and a sabotage from antis on yt comment section, was something I kinda already saw it coming. Ice Cream is Blackpink’s most successful single to date, but it was a bad choice from the start (I will talk about that in a second). For starters, YG decided not to promote the song well. While announcing the single, they gave us a poster with pictures from a summer package released months before. And each week they kept doing that, only using actual teaser photos in the release week. The hype was pretty much out. I can’t say my timeline is 100% blink because i have way too many fandoms that i’ve been following for longer than i’ve known kpop, but compared to the HYLT hype, they were pretty down and that’s on YGE. Also, ever since coachella, it’s been antecipated by fans and artists the possibility of a Blackpink x Ariana Grande (one of the most popular singes these last couple of years). The idea of an Aripink collab got blinks (who were already with an eye wide open after Blackpink was seen with Tommy Brown, Ari’s basically oficial producer, who has been producing for her ever since her second album and was reponsible for many hits of her latest project, Thank U, Next, such as 7 rings and Thank U, Next) even more hyped when YG announced (one of those old photoshoot posters. I’m sorry I will never let that go that company is so trash) that Blackpink’s second release was going to be a collaboration with a western artist, and Ariana herself like Jennie’s instagram post about the next single. I cannot put in words the reaction of my twitter timeline when YG confirmed that the collab was actually with Selena Gomez.
Now, on a more personal note.
You see, I actually like Selena. I like her songs, besides the critics. Perfect is pop perfection. Waverly Place is the best disney show ever since That’s So Raven. But, to a collab made to the US market, and besides the success of Rare, Selena isn’t a sales force like Adele or Taylor Swift, nor a streaming force like Ariana Grande. Nothing takes my theory that this was supposed to be an aripink collab but, for some reason, she dipped and then interscope (blackpink us label and selena’s label) picked her. Selena showed us a good time and promoted the girls more than YGE did but, it wasn’t a surprise when the song didn’t get a top 10 (a top 13 is really good tho, don’t get me wrong).
Now back to the story telling
Selena was more than a feat, she sang the whole damn song, getting more vocal lines the the entire vocal line. She’s only a few seconds behind Lisa, who got the most lines in general. I understand that it is a collab, but this is the girls’ single. Why would they want to listen to them for only 16 seconds, the amount of time Rosé got? That set a bunch of solo stans (something that exists more in this fandom than everywhere else) to boycoitt the release, a huge fansite even taking out their funds for the full album (that was low, even for a solo account. JisooBar, you aint seeing heaven). Did i think it was a little of overeacting? As someone who’s an army that had to handle Not Today’s line distribuition, and especially since we’re talking about the main vocalist, someone who will for sure have more lines in the future (as she did), kinda. But, like i said, it was a bomb getting ready to explode at any minute. If it wasn’t that it’d be something else. That being said, NOTHING will ever justify the nastyness y’all did with Lisa and even Jennie’s comment section. Nothing. That was ridiculous even for solo stans. BUT for people who got worried about Lisa’s lack of posts after the release, don’t worry. She didn’t post a lot because Thailand is going through some stuff and I don’t think she has YGe’s permission to talk about it (when I catch the ones in power on that company istg).
Wow, that was long. At essence, it  was a bad choice for several reasons, but i enjoyed the song a lot. Can’t wait for the live performances with chaesoo’s lines.
Now, back to HYLT. It was greatly promoted, it stopped Zico’s (huge in korea) releases and a bunch of other big artists in South Korea. Got 7 Perfect All-Kills and would’ve gotten more than 12 if the charts weren’t reforming at the time. It also broke a lot of records, and repeated Sour Candy’s position on the bb100 on #33. It’s another very Blackpink song that  I enjoyed but kinda aged. Many non blinks didn’t like it but it’s not like they were ever going to admit they liked a bp song. They’re annoying. The song’s biggest problem is probably the 2015 edm in the chorus. Like. Teddy. You gotta let that go. It’s time. He kinda heard us in the album. But, these kinds of songs are very liked by the general public, especially the korean one. An interview was made asking the general public if blackpink should change concepts and they said a bit fat no. So that tells what you need to know. And that it why i think Pretty Savage should have been the first pre release single.
Okay, let me tell you another series of event. Back on november 2019, when we were starving because YGe does not like money, BlackpinkBar, a big fansite, payed trucks to be sent to YG building during a whole day demanding for better treatment to Blackpink. You can find all the demands online, but at essence, when it came to music related, blinks always mention: Jisoo’s lines, screen time and blackpink in your area, Main Rapper Jennie, Lisa dance break, Rosé’s high note. On HYLT, we got nothing. And everyone had to shrug it off saying it was just a pre release single, BUT it would be better hyped by blink and the hype to the second pre release would’ve lasted longe if PRETTY SAVAGE, who has basically all of that, was the pre release single. It would’ve assured us of so much. Jisoo said bp in your area twice, she RAPPED, she was singing, she could’ve had more screetime and center time especially bc she’s on all chorus. Jennie Main Rapper would go back and we wouldn’t have to be blue balled (which caused the ice cream meltdown)every single release and only having to wait till the title track and only to have a 8 SECOND RAP. I won’t talk about that now. Moving on. Rosé wouldn’t get a high note, but she would’ve gotten the brigde all to herself and the next pre release single, bet you wanna (wait for it), she would get those incredible adlibs. And Lisa’s dance break. Not only this is bp’s most danceable song and has a bunch of lisa’s raps, it also has jennie’s outro, where for a least 20 seconds lisa could’ve thrived. Yall we were robbed.
Now, real quick, back to Ice Cream. In a perfect world (or just a world where YG’s current ceo) had brains, if they wanted a collaboration to show the pink side of blackpink, with a poppy song and sassy lyrics, the artist not to be in the whole song, and to have an artist who would driven attention from the locals and is a big streaming force, THEY WOULD’VE CHOSEN BET YOU WANNA. My biggest problem with bet you wanna is Lisa’s lack of lines, which could cause stuff and well we just miss her they could have added a rap even for 8 seconds, BUT, seeing her all around pretty savage and knowing she’s gonna have Cardi’s rap during live performances would cool things down. Since we were in the middle of a pandemic, instead of a mv like ice cream where they had to do it separately, they could’ve done something like IU’s eight. A huge part in animation and a few with people. Literally YG why are you so dumb. Bye.
d)  My Honest Opinion About The Album As A Whole:
I did some math (lol) and my rank for The Album is 8.4. It’s easily one of the best releases from this year and I loved it so much, but something were left to be desired and i think i could pass everything and just turn a blind eye at things, except one: the fact we waited for 4 years, watched all ggs and yg groups getting comebacks last semester and only got 8 songs. Loona is releasing a mini album with that amount of songs. Stray Kids and BTS’s mini albums are longer than that. It was bad enough KTL had 4 songs and a remix (a joke) with 2 songs lacking raps and no rapper jennie only for them to carry YG’s dirty name after what their protected boys did. I legit hate it here they didn’t even had 30 minutes, their longest song wasn’t even 4 minutes. Also, before anyone says anything about the girl’s interview about quality over quantity. I’d like to say that i understand them having that when it comes to have one comeback a year and i’m honestly okay with that. But their first full album? 8 songs? Are you kidding me? Like I said, I’m a consumer. I refuse to receive this half assed excuse about quality over quantity when they had more than enough time to produce and write more than 8 quality songs? what, is impossible to write more than one song per moth? these songs have formulas, they can be made more than 8 times. A blackpink album its more than a thousand reals here. That 90% of a sallary. And please don’t come with the “if you don’t want it just don’t buy it” “you can just unstan them” bc that’s not the case. I love their songs. I love the girls. But I’m a consumer of their art and if they want to be takend seriously as artists, they gotta do more than 8 songs on a full album. It’s unfair to anyone that isn’t a diehard fan willing to sell out an overpriced photobook in hours. That’s not the only kind of fan blackpink needs. they need the store locals, the people who are not on twitter or tumblr or instagram. Cause those locals are gonna stay like they stayed with adele and taylor swift. stan twitter is much more likely to leave them with time.
Side note: I’m tired of commenting on rapper Jennie so I’ll just say Jennie deserves better than 8 second raps as the main rapper of the group. That doesnt mean I want Lisa to not rap or to Jisoo not to sing, as many will say bc apparently that’s what people hear when we say main rapper who trained for 6 years to be a main rapper should rap on at least most title tracks even if not on all songs.
But yeah, that’s it. Besides the unfortunate final note, I loved The Album and now Blackpink it’s my second most listened artist of all time. They were top 13 before the album.

BTS Fic - Stones Thrown - Chapter 4
Tumblr media
T/W: Shooting at a concert, Injury, Angst, Hurt/Comfort. Ao3  Chapter 1  Chapter 2  Chapter 3
If you’d told Jin 24 hours ago what would happen, and asked him to imagine how he’d feel, “lonely and a little bored” wouldn’t have ranked high on his list. And yet… True, it’s tempered with worry - for his dongsaengs, all six of them, though Taehyung, Yoongi along with the two ARMYs his parents had told him about who’d also been hurt and were also somewhere in the hospital are at the top of his list, but he’s just not accustomed to being alone these days, and the here and now isn’t exactly a convenient place and time to try and let his mind wander, when his mind is so uncharacteristically full of dark thoughts and worries. His parents had been allowed in to see him not long after he’d been brought upstairs, and they’d stayed for a while, his mother fussing over him even more than she usually did, insisting on holding the phone for him as he spoke to his brother briefly, arranging his belongings properly in the cabinet beside his bed, unfolding and re-folding the clothes in his hand-luggage bag which someone had obviously re-packed to bring to him in the hospital, tutting at the sweets she found tucked in there before leaving them in the case, instead telling him she would bring him some fruit and “proper” food that would get him and the others better. Jin, ever the dutiful son, let her fuss around him until she was satisfied, occasionally responding to questions, deflecting her scolding placatingly, and thanking her profusely for everything she was doing. His parents left once his mother was satisfied he was relatively alright after surgery, being well-looked after, and that he was settled on the ward, so with a final set of reminders to be polite to the hospital staff, to rest, to keep them informed of how he was feeling later, (after a sleep, his mother instructed pointedly) and other typical parental instructions, they left, saying they would return the following day. Jin immediately picked up his phone, quickly typing a message in the members’ group chat, letting them know he was on the ward, feeling relatively well, and hoping they would be able to see him soon. Within seconds, he received a string of emoji from both Jimin and Jungkook, followed by Hoseok telling him they were all fine, if a little tired, having spent the entire night at the hospital waiting for news, and reminding him to rest. Namjoon responded in their private conversation. <<Hyung! Glad you’re doing ok and your mother passed you your phone - Seijin is asking if he can come up to the ward to see you now, if I can I’ll come with him.>> Jin smiles at that, and the thought of the likely reaction of the others if Namjoon alone was allowed to accompany their manager to see him. After thinking for a moment, he responds. <<Joon-ah, it’d be good to see you. Try not to let the others complain too much if you do come. Tell them I said to wait and they can see all of us together when YG & TH get up here too. Thanks for getting me my phone, though I was worried my mother might keep it! Saw YG when he came out of surgery, he seemed ok>> -he grimaces as he remembers Yoongi’s dramatic entry to the recovery ward, but suppresses it, figuring there’s no point worrying their dongsaengs at the moment, and Yoongi was fine afterwards… <<but they brought me up here before TH came out of surgery. Have you heard how he is? Is he out yet?>> He sets the phone down within easy reach when he finishes typing, waiting for a response. He falls asleep before one comes though, tiredness and painkillers catching up with him. The next thing he’s aware of is low voices murmuring close by. They stop as soon as he moves, screwing up his face in confusion before cracking his eyes open to find Seijin and Namjoon sat near the end of his bed, both watching him intently. “Mmmn-nyeong.” he croaks, rubbing at his face with his hand, looking back at them both smiling at him. “Hyung, how are you feeling?” Namjoon questions, voice slightly muffled, No doubt because of the dressing covering his nose almost entirely. Jin raises an eyebrow, expression otherwise deadpan, before chuckling and answering. “Aish, Namjoon-ah, I don’t even know. Doped up? So all right, I suppose, considering. How are you doing?” he questioned back. “This?” Namjoon points at his nose, continuing when Jin nods. “Broken, thanks to-” “I saw. Did maknae speak to you about it?” Jin interrupts, making a point of emphasising JKs position as youngest before continuing, as Namjoon pointedly avoids making eye contact and Seijin shifts in his chair. “Namjoon..?” “He… he tried.” Namjoon mutters down to his lap, clearly uncomfortable. “I told him I didn’t want to hear it. Hyung, I-” “You were trying to keep him safe. I know.” Jin cuts him off, speaking softly. “And he was just trying to help Taehyung and I.” Namjoon looks up at that, surprised. “I saw what happened. And I know he’s sorry he hurt you, and he thinks you’re mad at him. Probably knows it now… and I bet neither of you has slept.” Seijin grins at that, as Namjoon looks down again, lips twisted. “I’ll talk to him, hyung.” He promises. “And I’ll make sure we get home and sleep. All of us.” Jin smiles as Namjoon finally makes eye contact fully, obviously feeling better for having a plan he can act upon. “Sounds good.” He agrees, smiling as Seijin busies himself in his phone, now that the potentially awkward conversation seems to have passed. “So, it’s broken then? You got it checked out, right?” Namjoon fixes him with a look, before sighing and replying. “Yes, I got it checked, yes, it’s broken, and-” he continues, holding up a hand as Jin goes to speak; “-they’re arranging an appointment with a specialist to make sure it heals as well as possible. Might even look better than before.” he finishes, jokingly, smiling widely as Jin chuckles. “Yah! There was nothing wrong with your nose before..!” Jin admonishes, Namjoon ducking his head, still grinning. “ARMY wouldn’t want you to change- mwoya?” he cuts himself off, as the grin slides off Namjoon’s face at the mention of their fans. “Hyung, did... do you know about-” Namjoon grimaces, before visibly stiffening and biting out the rest of his half-question, half-confession. “ARMY- two of them were hurt. They’re in the hospital too.” He looks up, Seijin too, both of them clearly gauging Jin’s reaction to the news. “Yes.” Jin answers shortly, huffing out a breath before continuing. “Appa told me earlier, but... I saw, I already knew, I think, back on the stage.” Namjoon winces, but Jin bulldozes over him as he opens his mouth - not needing an apology, or an explanation when Namjoon has nothing to do either for. “Yah, don’t even start... You did everything right. You helped Yoongi and Jimin get to safety, then helped Seok-ah with JK, made sure they were both safe too. I saw, and I was just glad you all got away quickly.” “But hyung, you and Taehyung-” “Will both be just fine. Hopefully the ARMYs will be too, I hope the company are-?” He pauses, looking at Seijin, who nods, confirming without words being exchanged that they’ll be receiving the same level of care as the injured members. Reassured, Jin turns back to Namjoon as he continues- “You should worry about your-” He gets cut off as a nurse bustles in, smiles at them all, before closing the curtain around his bed, disappearing from view as she does so. They look around, each just as confused as the other, before Seijin shrugs and goes back to tapping at his phone as her retreating footsteps echo in the sudden quiet. “That was weird.” Namjoon states flatly. Jin hums in response, still confused, and more than a little uneasy at no longer being able to see what’s going on around them. “I heard they do that when someone’s died” he murmurs almost to himself, unfortunately not quietly enough, as he’s met with a horrified “HYUNG!” from Namjoon, and an incredulous look from Seijin. “What?!” He defends himself. “It’s true, they-” He’s shushed none-too subtly as the sound of a trolley being wheeled up the corridor and people murmuring draws closer, so instead of saying ‘told you so’ he gestures silently but no less vehemently towards the noise. Which, oddly, seems to be drawing even closer, the squeaky wheel of the bed and the murmurs becoming clearer, before one stops, and the other reduces as they hear footsteps leaving, one voice continuing to speak quietly close by, before a final set of footsteps recede, leaving the bay once more almost silent. Namjoon stares at him, one eyebrow raised, jerking his thumb over his shoulder as he mouths “Do you think that’s..?” “Yoongi-yah?” Jin calls softly, just as a voice from behind the curtain hesitantly calls “Jin-hyung?” There’s a beat of silence before Namjoon bursts into giggles, covering his face with both hands as Jin gesticulating wildly, as best he can with one hand, for him, for Seijin, either of them, to open the curtain as Yoongi’s voice cuts across the room, slightly exasperated. “Yah! Namjoon-ah! I can hear you there too. Open the curtain, will you?!” Namjoon moves to comply, but it’s Seijin who stands up, motioning for him to stay where he is as he ducks through the curtain. Jin can hear him talk to Yoongi briefly, before his footsteps echo away down the corridor, presumably in search of a nurse to get a more accurate explanation of Yoongi’s condition, or to see how the rest of the members are. Whatever his reasons for leaving, it’s not long before Yoongi again demands Namjoon opens the curtains, and this time, he does so, rolling his eyes at the obvious, if unseen pout lacing his fellow rappers’ tone. “Joon-ah, how’s-” “Hyung, how are y-” “Yoongi, did you see-” They all start and stop immediately, before three grins split across their faces, as Namjoon crosses the bay, moving closer to Yoongi’s bedside. Jin motions for Yoongi to start, mainly so he gets an answer to his question first. “I saw Taehyung, but not for long. He was still out of it, not awake yet, anyway, but he’s out of surgery.” It feels like something suddenly unwinds in Jin’s chest when he hears that, some tension releases as he nods, exhaling heavily. “Was he-?” he asks, trailing off as Yoongi goes to interrupt him anyway, not that he minds, for once. “Asleep still, but they said he was ok.” “Yah, better than you when you came out of surgery.” Jin half-jokes, before biting his lip as Namjoon’s head whips round, looking from him to Yoongi, clearly worried. “What..?! hyung, wh- are you-” he starts, reaching out and gripping Yoongi’s hand, whether for his own or Yoongi’s comfort, Jin can’t tell, he doubts Namjoon knows either. “Joon-ah, I’m fine.” Yoongi reassures him quietly, calmly, whilst giving Jin a look that conveys exactly how displeased he is right now. “My surgery went well, they’re happy with me, so everything’s fine now.” he continues, turning his hand over to grip Namjoons just as tightly. “But Jin-hyung just-” Jin practically shrinks away from the glare Yoongi fixes him with as he continues reassuring Namjoon that he’s alright, nothing really happened, he just came round from the anaesthetic a bit quicker than expected. Which is true, Jin concedes silently to himself, even if it is sugar-coating the truth more than a little. Now Namjoon seems to have calmed down, he chances changing the subject, switching focus onto their leader. “Joon-ah, have you slept at all? You look like you need to rest..” He queries, knowing the answer as Namjoon fidgets, avoiding looking at either of his hyungs, looking down where both his hands now rest at Yoongi’s side. “You really should go, the others too, I bet none of you have slept or eaten properly since last night, and-” “I made sure the others slept..” He argues. “And your mother brought some food - real food for us when they arrived.” Jin smiles at that, knowing his family basically adopted another six younger boys when he joined the group, it doesn’t surprise him in the slightest that his parents would make sure that all of them were being looked after, even if they were worried about their actual son. “Hope-ah wouldn’t sleep though, not til he pass-” “Yah, Namjoon-ah. So you haven’t slept?” Jin interrupts, Yoongi batting at his hand to get his attention when he doesn’t respond, doesn’t make eye contact with either of them. “You need to go home, shower, get some sleep, then come back-” “-Bring my laptop when you do” Yoongi interjects, Namjoon finally looking up, a scandalised expression on his face, as Jin snorts out a laugh. “Hyung, you should be resting, you can’t work-” “Yah! Kim Namjoon, you know I can’t rest if I can’t write!” Yoongi argues right back, before looking across at Seijin as he walks back onto the bay. “Seijin-nim, do you have a notebook and a pen I can borrow? And can you take Joon and the rest home now so they can get some sleep and some food?” Seijin smiles, looking relieved, Jin assumes because Yoongi has just bluntly delivered the instruction he was debating giving. “But hyungs-” Namjoon is quick to argue, before being shouted down by the other three, his bandmates much more forcibly, especially after he stifles a yawn as they’re mid-flow. “Namjoon. Take the others and go home.” Jin finally states, in a tone that flatly squashes any further debate. “They need looking after too, and-” “-The hospital staff say you can all visit tomorrow, once Taehyung is settled here, and they’ve had a quiet night to rest.” Seijin finishes, as Namjoon yawns again, stretching as he stands. “OK, You sure you don’t need anything tonight?” he asks them both, smiling as Yoongi again demands his laptop and composing rig, Jin interrupting with an eye roll as he begs Seijin to give him a pen and paper so he “can get some sleep even if he won’t.” A few minutes later, Seijin and Namjoon leave, and it’s quiet. Silent almost, until Jin sighs as he slides carefully down his pillows until he’s lying almost flat. Yoongi mutters something as he settles, and repeats it louder, more clearly, when Jin responds with a questioning murmur of his own. “He worries so much. Too much.” Jin quietly agrees, knowing exactly who is being referred to, Yoongi humming in agreement when he responds that now and whilst they’re recovering, they can make sure their dongsaengs are, and will be okay too. They have to.

YG Mafia Ch. 2 - Dust Bunnies
Summary; How was she supposed to know her new friends were in the Mafia? One thing was for sure though, the Leader was hot.
Jiyong x Reader
It was atrocious, there was spider webs everywhere and dust on every horizontal piece of furniture. “Wow, this place needs some work.” I said to myself as I swiped a finger across the surface of the kitchen counter, leaving behind a streak. There were some stains on the carpet, the walls, and ceiling. I had no idea where those came from and I honestly didn’t want to know. This would take days to clean all by myself. I quickly pulled out my phone and opened up my notes, making a list of all the things I’d need to buy to fix this crazy mess. I finished inspecting the rest of the house and much to my relief, you found most of the furniture in the house covered in plastic tarps or in plastic bags. The outside needed to have the bushes trimmed and the leaves raked up, and the grass definitely needed mowing. I sighed, it was only eight in the morning but I just knew I’d have a long day, and and an even longer week. I finished making up my list and hopped back in the car and drove to the nearest store. I pulled out my list as I walked into the store, making sure to grab a shopping cart along the way. “Alright, let’s start with things I’ll need around the whole house. A vacuum, cleaning spray, sponges, water buckets, brooms and a mop.” I said as I began walking around. I had spent hours in the store, going through aisle by aisle just to make sure I didn’t miss anything for the cleaning part of the house. I’d also bought things I’d need to live like cooking pots and pans, cooking utensils, curtains, bed sheets, laundry basket and soap. I didn’t realize just how much I truly needed until I got to the store and realized I had nothing. I know there was some things I’d probably forgotten so I’d be back for other things once the house was all cleaned up. When I made it back home I carried all the cleaning supplies into the house and started by dusting off all the furniture. I barley finished with the living room when a knock came on the door. For a split second I thought it might have been my father, thinking he found out about what I’d done and was here to bring you back already. But then I remembered my mother would have told me if that was the case. Not knowing who it could be I walked up to the front door and looked through the peep hole. Well I tried to anyway, there was so much dirt inside the small hole that I couldn’t even see through it. I clicked my tongue irritably and swung the door wide open, revealing four girls, all around my age. My irritation disappeared. “Hi, we noticed you moved in, we live a few houses down. My name is Lisa, these are my roommates and best friends, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rose. We wanted to introduce ourselves and welcome you to the neighborhood!” I didn’t know what to say! “Thank you so much! My name is Ari, I would welcome you inside but…” I trailed off opening the door a bit wider to show the embarrassing mess. “Holy shit! It looks like a tornado went through here! Do you want some help? It’ll get done a lot faster if we all work together.”  Rose said as she looked to the other girls who rapidly nodded their heads, the four of them smiling. “You guys really don’t have to, I mean we just met and having you guys help my clean my house isn’t exactly the way a first meeting should go.” I was extremely thankful for the offer but it just felt rude to ask them to do such a thing. “I really can’t ask you all to do that.” “Technically we offered to help, and sure it’s not ideal for first introductions but we can get to know each other this way.” Jennie explained as she took a few steps forward and grabbed my hand. “Please let us help?” Jisoo begged from behind Jennie, her hands folded and begging. It didn’t take much for my to cave in and say ‘yes’ so within a matter of minutes, the five of us all had our hair in ponytails or buns and were dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming the entire house. The living room and dining room as well as the kitchen and laundry room were done downstairs by Jisoo and Jennie while Rose and Lisa helped me clean the upstairs bedrooms and lounge area. We all talked for hours while we cleaned. I found out that the girls had been friends since they were in elementary school, they were all in college now, all majoring in business management. Apparently they have friends in high places that as soon as they graduate from college with their degrees they can get nice jobs in really nice businesses that their friends own. Lisa and Rose were both orphans, their parents died when they were both young. Jennie’s parents both lived in a different country overseas, they move all the time but never tell Jennie where they move to, because it just happens too often to always be telling her. Then there’s Jisoo, she never really got along with her parents. Her mother had divorced her father, leaving behind scars in their family. Her grandparents from both sides never talk to her or anything, and her father blames Jisoo for the divorce. After her mom got the divorce she fled the country, moved to Rome or something like that, leaving her behind. I told the girls about my situation at home and why I suddenly moved back to my grandfathers house. Jisoo felt the most empathy for my because she had gone through something similar with her own parents. All day was a day for personal stories from each other. By the time the sun had set the floors and dusting was all we were able to take care of, but I weren’t upset by this little fact because it would have taken me days to get it done by myself, but it only took one with the help from the girls. But there was still much to be done, but that would be for tomorrow. I had to go and find a place to sleep in for the night seeing as the beds and what not in the bedrooms still needed to be taken care of. I knew I needed a new mattress because there was no way I’d be sleeping on that old thing. “Thank you girls so much for all of this, really, it means a lot.” I said as I stretched my tired limbs. “No problem, what are friends for?” Jennie said with a smile. “But where are you going to sleep tonight Ari? Surely you aren’t going to sleep in those bedrooms, they’re still a bit of a mess.” Rose asked. “Don’t worry Rose, I’ll probably get a hotel or something for tonight.” “Don’t be silly! You can spend the night at our place! We have a spare bedroom in our house, you’re welcome to stay there if you’d like. That way you don’t have to pay for a night at a hotel where millions of people had probably done god knows what on those beds.” My heart warmed at these girls. They were so nice! “I would love that!” I grabbed my backpack that I had packed at the crack of dawn and left with the girls to a few houses down the street. “I don’t know about you girls but I could definitely use a nice hot bath right now.” Lisa said taking off her shoes at the door, the rest of us following suit. “And some food, I’m starving!” Jennie said as she led the way through the house. “How about we order take out and shower while we wait for it to get here?” Rose suggested already pulling out her phone. We all agreed and ran to the living room and plopped down on the couch thinking of what to order. “What do you want?” “I’m craving some Pizza.” “That sounds amazing right now!” “Ohhh can we get hot wings with it?” “Um, of course!” “Don’t forget the cheesy breadsticks!” “Do they have desserts too?” The five of us went crazy, ordering an insane amount of food. While waiting for the pizza Jennie showed me my room and the bathroom that was attached to it. I thought about today as I showered. The progress I had made with the house and the new friends I made. Today was definitely a win.

First Half of 2017 Fic Rec
A compilation of some of the fics that I’ve enjoyed this year [with little glimpses into the stories and comments about them, do check them out to see the actual summaries and do support the authors if you enjoy them as well 💕]:
trndsttrs of seoul by chimint || yoonmin, namjin || t || wip
chatfic; jimin is a cinnamon roll and yoongi is whipped™.
(literally the cutest thing ever, i reread it every day. jungkook calls yoonmin ‘dadgi’ and ‘jimom’ respectively (which is so fcking cute nghhh) and namjoon is the captain of the ship and they all ship ym - all concepts i am 100% up for. something to brighten up your day ^^)
Seven Days (Or The One Where Min Yoongi Asks Out Park Jimin Because Of A Girl) by minyoongayashell || yoonmin || bg taekook, namjin || m || wip || tw sexual content (but like, no actual sex)
seven days au; jimin is called “cheot-nal ye” or “first day yes”. basically he’s famous at school for agreeing to date the first person who asks him out on the first day of the week - 100% of the time, he breaks off the relationship at the end of the week and the cycle repeats itself. now, yoongi hates this girl in class and she wants to ask jimin out. naturally, he has to beat her to it.
(the manga was such a sweet thing and the fic gets me so excited. i don’t read a lot of high school aus, but this one is special! it’s not updated very frequently, but it’s definitely worth a read.)
Bullet Boy by sugamins || yoonmin || e || tw homophobia/sexual content || wip || tw references to drug use/depression
in which yoongi’s an underground rapper and jimin collabs with other rappers to break into the scene and flash forward into the future, they are caught up in a ‘scandal the likes of which the industry has never seen before.’
(the writing is so amazing, wow, it’s only on the first third chapter but the author makes it feel so promising. i kid you not, i actually messaged them and fangirled embarrassingly bc I am that kind of person. also ! underground yoonmin !)
Hiraeth by haruguk || taekook, yoonmin, platonic yoonkook || not rated but probably e || 100k || tw sexual content/graphic content/drug abuse/mental instability/psychosis || tw referenced child abuse/cheating/alcohol abuse/self-harm (basically a lot of warnings!)
diary of an oxygen thief au; perfect fratboy jeongguk gets off of breaking hearts, but he can’t quite do the same to kim taehyung. “hurt people hurt people.” read the warnings carefully!
(basically this fic broke my heart time and time again and everyone has probably already read this but i still must rec it bc it is that good.)
tats'n'thots by Death_Impala || taekook || bg yoonmin || not rated but probably m || 12k || tw sexual content
tattoo artist au; taehyung to jeongguk: “I feel inspired, and I want to work with you, so how about this: let me tattoo you in any way I want, free of charge – with your input of course.” also, bottom jk. c:
(i am trash for the using-your-body-as-a-canvas trope and similarly, or even more so, for bottom bby jk. :’) this fic is a blessing. taekook and art obviously belong in the same sentence.)
Idiosyncratic by jiminsfw || taekook || e || 19k || tw sexual content/knots/ruts/usual abo things
a/b/o au; taehyung and jungkook are an alpha/alpha couple, and no one thinks that alpha/alpha couples can last. involves ruts and switching and so much emotion.
(this was a particularly interesting read bc it took me forever to find a fic with alpha/alpha taekook! alpha/alpha taekook nghhh it’s just the cutest thing, a little sad, but ultimately very fluffy.)
Mileage May Vary by rix || taekook || e || 80k || tw sexual content/age difference/strip clubs/recreational drug use
“Jeongguk is a stripper with a penchant for trouble. Taehyung is curious.” taehyung is nine years older than jk, who has a prince albert btw. bottom jk as always. sort of soft sugar daddy tae? but not really.
(once again i am trash for bottom jk. and all of rix’s fics are so good ;A; the quality just gets better and better. also, tae is once-divorced, heads up. in rix’s words, nothing really happens but still, it’s so enjoyable. <3)
spring day by Bangtanbananas || yoonmin, taekook, namjin || e || 70.9k || tw violence/graphic content/sexual content/mpreg/heats/usual abo things
wolf au; only 5% (i think) of wolves find their fated mates (but most wolves believe they don’t actually exist bc soulmates?), and although jimin dreamt of finding his when he was a pup, he didn’t actually expect to in the mysterious alpha from the mountains.
(i crave shit like this bc wolves + a/b/o + pack dynamics is just - c: omega jm and alpha yg, yes please. seokjin is the real mvp.)
half feral, but just right by themelonlord || yoonmin, platonic jikook || e || wip || tw discrimination/bullying/graphic content (but not really)/probably sexual content || tw referenced child abuse
a/b/o au; in a world where alphas are considered little more than rabid animals, yoongi’s just trying to scrape by and achieve his dreams. but then he meets omega park jimin and his pseudo little brother, young alpha jeon jeongguk.
(yoonmin with their son /dongsaeng jjk is evidently my absolute favourite thing. :’) i was dreaming about an au where the alphas are victimised for a change a week before i discovered this fic and i wanted to cry bc it was better than i could ever imagine it to be.)
Laugh and I Love You by ifisayhiyousayoops || jinkook || bg vmin || e || 21.9k || tw sexual content
canonverse; seokjin and jungkook are just - so domestic and codependent. literally it. the softest slice-of-life on this side of the internet.
(jinkook has always been my guilty pleasure and i love them. bratty btm bby jk is basically my religion? i’m this fic is so well written! it’s very gentle and sweet and wow. i love love.)
time follows you (and fades) by thebestofme || yoonmin || bg taekook || t || 17k
hogwarts au; half-veela jimin finds himself in slytherin house and falling for slytherin prince, min yoongi. alternatively, jimin is so pretty and yoongi just wants to love him.
(slytherin yoonmin! yoongi is such a sweetheart and he has a pet kneazle named holly. :’) jeongguk is also adorable, i’m so weak. the first part is in jm’s pov and the second one’s in yg’s, so you literally get two sides of the story. i am trash for hogwarts aus and i’ve probably read all of them, and this one is such a gem!)
Once Upon A Dream by yururin || yoonmin || t || 17k
“soulmates AU where you can see a glimpse of your past life on the eve of your 18th birthday and Jimin dreams of a forbidden Joseon era love story with an upperclassman Min Yoongi, popular basketball player in uni, 18384/10 out of his reach”
(what is sin - it doesn’t exist. this entire thing is so soft and cute and pure. a great pick-me-up!)
glub glub glub by rabbitme || yoonmin || g || 6.7k
sort of chat fic that begins with jimin and yoongi missing each other.
(such purity. i love love. basically ym travelling, together and apart. ot7 interaction is something to look forward to, as well. it’s so fluffy, please read this and be blessed.)
light side of the moon by themelonlord || yoonmin, namjin, taekook, 95line || e || 80.8k || tw brief graphic content (blood)/sexual content
wolf au; jimin moves into a quiet town and befriends kim taehyung, who subsequently changes his life.
(it is such a lovely story, very pure, very gentle, with filth. :’) nothing really happens; it’s just a story about a boy who finds himself loving a man who can turn into a wolf. the ot7 is strong in this one. highly recommended if 95line and puppy piles make you smile.)
King of My Heart by wanderment || taekook || t || 17.7k
jeon jeongguk is the youngest son of the king of korea. taehyung is a friend of a friend - and a fan, but don’t let jeongguk know that. yet.
(a very wholesome and pure fic. they’re all rich college kids in this; minus namjin who are jk’s bodyguards. it feels short when you read it, but definitely very enjoyable. it’ll make you smile.)
The Victorious V and his Vast, Venturesome Heart by aprofessorstale || taekook, yoonmin || e || wip || tw sexual content/identity crises?
canonverse; taehyung is in love with love. jimin doesn’t believe in it.
(this is probably one of the best non-aus i’ve read in forever. it’s very introspective, incredibly heavy when it comes to discussions of sexuality and identity. it is very well-written and the author had captured their personalities well, while sticking to a timeline mostly following reality. (basically everything happens post-ynwa era) taekook are complicated and as are yoonmin, and while the story isn’t over yet, it is definitely worth the read. nam2seok are the resident straights and they deserve to be loved. on that note! yg is demisexual, rejoice.)
I Wrote This For You by chikichikichuu || yoonmin, taekook || bg namjin || t || wip || tw referenced depression/self-harm
the “cliffhanging heartbreaking motherfucking breakthrough debut novel” you will not read this story frustrates jungkook enough for him to send an aggressive e-mail to his newly proclaimed favourite author, min yoongi. (or, yoonmin through jungkook’s eyes. painful, yet worth it. taekook are relationship goals, basically, and everything is seemingly lovely until it isn’t. it hasn’t been updated since february ::) but it’s the kind of story that you can’t stop thinking about. suffer with me. <3)
a silhouette of new by mygz || yoonmin || m || wip || tw sexual content
sugar daddy gone wrong au chatfic; an unknown number sends jimin a message, thinking he’s a sugar baby.
(very very cute! i look forward to this a lot. yoongi and jm are both very natural and very adorable, spicy and sweet. uwu seriously something to look forward to if you’re into fluffy and sexy sugar daddy au chatfics.)
Lurking Shadows by GrandDragon03 || taekook, yoonmin, nam2seok, platonic yoonminkook || m || wip || tw violence
monster hunter au; jungkook is taken in as an apprentice by the legendary (and also married) hunter pair, min yoongi and park jimin.
(this is so good? the world-building is a+. please read if you want to see yoonmin with their son jk and good writing. the summary is in first person, but the story itself isn’t written that way, i promise. jk is a reckless prodigy but yoongi’s working on it.)
A New World by lonelyonion || taekook, yoonmin, nam2seok || e || wip || tw graphic content/violence/character death
super powers/not today au; “Jeon Jungkook was born to save the world, that’s a fact. Everything else, that was spontaneous.”
(this needs more attention! it’s still very short but very well-written and i am sooo excited for where this is headed. there are also not enough nam2seok fics in the world. :’) also! author says not to worry about the character death, but let’s see.)
Breathless by makkurokuro93 || yoonmin || bg namjin || e || 37k || tw sexual content
swim team au; after an unexpected break from the athletic world, yoongi finds himself back in south korea as their national team’s new coach. everything is almost the same as when he left, except, now, there’s park jimin.
(admittedly i haven’t finished this yet. 🤷 but! it seems very promising and there’s a nuance to the writing that colours everything in this sort of hazy blue filter. it’s just really pretty, wow. i say this bc i haven’t gotten to the smutty bits yet, tbh. what i’ve seen of the characterisations are brilliant! will update this when i finish reading. ;; let’s scream together.)
Impractical Magic by springrain21 || yoonmin || t || 16.8k || tw dismembered toes/spirits
witch au; yoongi is the worst witch jimin has ever met, basically.
(so so so cute! thank you to the original creator of the tumblr post that inspired this entire thing bc it just makes me so happy. yg is such an endearing character, and jm obviously feels the same way. you will fall in love.)

A really really long reflection 3/3
The riveting conclusion of my fucking multipart essays examining BTS/ARMYs in recent months, stan culture, and discussions of race within pop culture. In my conclusion, I’m gonna state my opinion on a recent incident that sparked this series.
Part one I went through a brief history of Asian/Asian American representation in American pop culture and the rise of kpop into the mainstream.
Part two went further into detail about the rise of BTS and their activities and the growing toxicity of the ARMY fandom.
Now we are currently in this timeline at 2018.
Before I continue with the history lesson, I’m gonna make a very important distinction here between the typical ARMY and what I’ll be calling an ARMY tribalist. The typical ARMY makes up the majority of the fandom: they follow BTS on social media, interact with the group’s posts and with other fans, stream MVs, vote for them on award shows and typical dedicated fan behavior. An ARMY tribalist takes the usual activities and behaviors and multiplies them in intensity to a million. A tribalist will put the fandom/group over everything else; over logic, over reason, over disagreement. Their loyalties are to their group of choice. Anyone can be a tribalist for a certain fandom that they are in, it’s not exclusive to ARMYs, or kpop in general. There’s Ariana Grande tribalists, DC tribalists, My Little Pony tribalists...the list goes on. So, I want to say that I don’t think all ARMYs act the same way the tribalists do, but the tribalists are the most active and the most vocal of the fandom and have influence over the average fan.
Now let’s get back to 2018. BTS had finished a wildly successful year in the United States. Thanks in part to their recent appearances at American award shows, stores such as Walmart, Target, and Barnes and Noble began selling their latest album, Love Yourself: Her. BTS merch also started to drop in Hot Topic. LYH had record sales for the group and for a kpop group in general thanks to this new audience or in part to loyal fans having access to buy albums without paying for overseas shipping.
Despite this, scandal wouldn’t be too far behind. In May of that year, an article was published that discussed black ARMYs who were receiving racially targeted harassment from others within the fandom. Acts such as whitewashing selfies, making jokes about slavery, and calling them slurs were highlighted in the article. BTS/Bighit Entertainment were asked for their comments on the matter, but as of February 2019, there has been no public statement issued regarding this.
The rest of 2018 was perhaps BTS’ biggest year: they were featured on the cover of TIME magazine, spoke in front of the United Nations as representatives for Unicef and their “Love Yourself” Campaign, released Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer to record breaking numbers, and had major shows in the United States for their Love Yourself Tour. Understandably, ARMYs were very proud of their favorite group.
As early as mid-2017, some ARMYs felt as though American media/artists did not take BTS seriously or were only using them for clout or extra attention. Pop culture tends to focus on whatever is popular at the moment, BTS being a popular group and kpop being a popular trend, of course American media outlets would pay special attention to kpop (although many outlets had covered kpop, though in smaller occurrences way before 2017). These outlets do need to make money at the end of the day and simply cannot be personally invested in every single thing they discuss. With that being said, I personally think it isn’t entirely impossible that some artists actually do like BTS/kpop. Kpop is appreciated worldwide by all sorts, so it doesn’t seem too out of line that celebrities do too. But obviously, it is music business, and some moves are only made to attract a new audience, which is fine. The fans also benefit from this newfound American fame BTS has: physical albums being sold in stores, more stops on their American tour, seeing them on a local television time at a reasonable time, merchandise at local stores. Of course, all of these benefit the providers because they get money, but that is the trade off of capitalism.
As I said, scandal continued within the ARMY fandom in 2018. With the release of his solo debut album, ARMY tribalists posted a fake translation of one of Mino’s songs with the lyric “baby girl” and accused the rapper from YG Entertainment group Winner of being a pedophile. Girl group Momoland was caught on camera laughing at something during an award show and Jimin coincidentally was singing at the time, ARMY tribalists took this as the girls were making fun of Jimin and proceeded to relentlessly attack the group to the point where they had to turn off Instagram comments for a time. The harassment of black ARMYs had not stopped and while some showed support for them, the fandom made major efforts to not let the group see it. ****** Trigger Warning: Suicide, Death ******  In December of 2017, SHINee member Jonghyun had committed suicide. It was a tragic day for SHINee World across the globe and many fandoms showed their support. Majority of ARMYs also showed support during this time, however, tribalists took the opportunity as a time to make jokes. This would become an ongoing theme in many other tragedies, that ARMY tribalists would be disrespectful and makes jokes about the recently deceased.
These are not all the scandals that ARMY tribalists were involved in 2018, but these are the most egregious to me.
And now we are in the present day. I’ll lightly touch on the incident that inspired this reflection and then get to my final thoughts. On February 12th, anonymous opinion blog, unpopularkpopopinions, had published a submitted opinion that stated “I feel like army created this bubble for bts where bts is huge in the west when in reality the american shows they were on aren’t difficult to get on, every meme these days can get on ellen so that’s not really an achievement, those interviews were all awkward and I couldn’t shake off the feeling that bts were simply weird asian gimmicks for the american audience, something they can’t and won’t understand but it’s weird enough to get views.” Initially, most users, who were regular followers to the blog, agreed with the opinion to varying degrees and the conversation seemed to have hit its point. However, on the 14th, the post started gaining traction once more with tons more notes. A disgruntled ARMY had reposted the opinion on Twitter, which attracted a new group to the post. Most ARMYs kept their response to Twitter with tweets such as “just ignore it and let’s prove them wrong next comeback,” but others took to the post itself to respond.
The common points for contention were 1. The American shows BTS were on weren’t difficult to get on and 2. BTS being seen as an “Asian gimmick.” The common arguments were “if it’s so easy to get on Ellen, how come your faves weren’t on?” and “Calling them an Asian gimmick? That’s racist, OP. This blog and anyone who agrees is also racist.” I won’t repost my entire response to the argument, but here were my main points: “ “America uses BTS for clout” is something I’ve mostly seen ARMYs say. Which clout is the wrong term because BTS doesn’t have Drake or Beyonce levels of clout; they are being used for clicks, engagement, whatever, which is reasonable since America is a capitalistic economy and if there’s a demand or an untapped market (rabid kpop fans) then it makes sense to exploit that. Most people realize that. The whole “Asian gimmick” bit that is what most of y’all are here for. If you literally read very closely, OP said “[they] couldn’t shake off the feeling that BTS were simply weird Asian gimmicks for the American audience.” It doesn’t say that they think BTS is a weird Asian gimmick, it says that from the interviews and other things BTS did in America, they had a feeling, a vibe if you will, that the American audience only SEES them as Asian gimmicks. You can agree or disagree with that point however you’d like, but y’all are claiming that this is how OP and others in the notes feel when that simply ain’t it.” And I stand by those points and I believe what I said earlier on in this post supports my point. It’s also hypocritical that just months ago, ARMYs were basically saying the same thing that this opinion did, but now it’s racist to point out that BTS are being used and the racist attitudes behind it.
So there it is, the ENTIRE timeline and build up. What are my thoughts? I think ARMY tribalists are the fucking worst. I think the fandom has a lot of hypocrisy going on, particularly within discussions about race. Why is it that CupcakKe is only looking for attention or that BTS shouldn’t see their black fans being bullied by fellow fans or that any artist of color who works with BTS just wants clout but as soon as someone points out that American audiences may only see the group as an Asian gimmick, that that is a serious racist attack? Why is it that people cannot point out that the group has done racially insensitive things in their past? Because tribe goes first. Not saying that those who agree with one, agree with all, but it is still a problem nonetheless.
I think fandom culture can very very easily feed into tribalism, especially in kpop. BTS in particular have so much content, that one could easily become obsessed within a matter of a day. From music videos, variety shows, fanfiction, fanart and edits, web series, merchandise, albums, and video games, I find it not too hard to believe that an ARMY tribalist only interacts with fellow ARMYs on the regular basis. I also think Bighit Entertainment is a rather shit company for never speaking up/allowing BTS to speak up on these issues especially since BTS are supposed to be anti-bullying ambassadors.
If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! I’m fucking tired. Do I still like BTS? Yes. I was just listening to Outro: Tear (the best outro in the LY series btw) as I was writing this and I think the group themselves are nice and talented. Do I hate all ARMYs? No. The fandom is too big to hate the millions of them, but I do find myself very very tired of them (and I’m sure they’re tired of An tiS like me). I’m just so fucking tired of all this bullshit with the fandom that I had to write down all my thoughts.

Dance Dance Evolution: How K-pop Joined Today’s International Hip-Hop Scene
When my friends karaoke There’s just one guideline . This really is essential so we are able to be as absurd as you can, starting to warm up with Question Girls’“Nobody,” before getting into development for 2PM’s“Again and Again” and making the males to complete Brown-Eyed Girls’“Abracadabra.” I praise k pop for controlling to produce therefore much goofiness and nostalgia in my own nightlife.
However it’s additionally mind boggling to determine how these developments taken through my senior school have been developed since by party. Ten years later , only bored teens inadvertently pounding one another while resembling Question Girls’“Tell Me.” Alternatively we’ve nearby hip hop teams saving and importing, and learning movie shows dances using their own style to become listed on the discussion online. Perhaps they’ll create a several contacts visit a course brought with a choreographer on Sunday, and property a to become copy performers inside your preferred group’s next return.
Have we come to date? Although party happens to be an intrinsic section of E-pop’s visible elements, recent improvements in engineering – more social networking systems, greater-quality cameras, easier editing application – have permitted kpop party togo worldwide and combine into an ever more globalized hip hop picture. Create movie stations although choreographers determine in the shadows, but mind companies; performers and history landscape no further mix, but train classes and generate public followers. There’s an entire new variety of superstar in amusement environment that is today’s.
This trend possibly begins in 2007 with Me,” among the dances to attract press interest that is popular. Businesses started to up their ante in a research of the following party feeling, and recognized that appealing techniques were a method to garner push for brand new releases. Among the locations they considered was the Web – wherever performers were of tinkering with facebook, importing brief, grainy videos of the own items within the first stages. Although several had registered party teams, and were experts in the market, joined contests and labored for main popstars, their movies were meant for the understanding of the market number of fellow-artists.
