i've been ruminating a lot on it because i think i'm bad at putting my thoughts into words but i need y'all to understand that while there are absolutely a lot of Not Good Things about the finals being held in saudi arabia for three years...the way people seem to treat is as morally black and white is shortsighted and unhelpful.
realistically the players traveling there will be protected. it may be uncomfortable, it's certainly not ideal, but they will travel there for a few weeks, play their tennis, then leave. there are a lot of women, a lot of queer people who actually live in saudi arabia who cannot just leave, who are actually subjected to laws and social climates...and to me it just seems very disrespectful to that actual lived experience, for everybody to sort of turn their noses up and get on their high horses. of course, if the players wish to opt out, that is their choice, but that is their choice to make. that's their judgement. not ours.
and then, what about a tournament like miami? florida is literally experiencing one of the worst active regressions that i've seen in the us (granted i'm young). things like critical race theory and lgbtq+ ed are being removed from curriculums, rights for trans youth, trans healthcare, etc. are going backwards. abortion rights? gun violence? and yes i know that the laws and climate in saudi arabia are different gravy, i understand that, but my point is, no one would ever DREAM of arguing against hosting a tournament in miami despite all of these issues. and we can extend this to a lot of other tournaments! i mean, all the outrage about fifa hosting a world cup in qatar, but we don't have any of these sentiments about doha? i've seen other people bring up that the finals were hosted in singapore when gay marriage was still illegal there. we've already talked about italy's fascist prime minister. and i could go on and on and on about the war crimes of countries like the us or the uk - is the us not participating actively in genocide right now? where is the standard? if you argue against hosting the finals in saudi arabia for the reason of human rights, to me it seems you have to uphold that standard for the location you do land on. and i can guarantee, you will not find a single country in the world with clean hands.
i want to be clear i am not arguing that hosting the finals in saudi arabia is a good thing, especially for three years, especially because it's definitely going there because of money, and not for any of the "good" reasons i think some people want us to believe about "improving the region" (which is very weirdly white savior-esque anyway). i don't really have an official "conclusion" to this discussion.
what i am arguing is that i think a lot of the protests against saudi arabiahosting the finals are more an example of implicit anti-arab bias and islamophobia, rather than genuine discussion. key word implicit: i don't think most people are purposefully trying to be anti-arab/islamophobic. or at least, i'd like to believe nobody is. but i also think, particularly in the west, there is already so much of this xenophobic sentiment ingrained. and this is why i think it's really really REALLY important to check ourselves when we talk about it instead of just jumping straight to the human rights conversation without a second thought.
i'll say it plainly: i don't think the finals should be held in saudi arabia. but for me, it has more to do with sportswashing, with the dangers of the way money is thrown around in sports, and because i think it's more evidence that the wta doesn't care about player welfare but rather about making a profit (what else is new). human rights are absolutely a concern of mine, but how is it fair to hold saudi arabia to a standard that we don't seem to care about for literally anybody else?
literally look at the us's ugly ugly history, past and present, and tell me why we deserve to host a tennis tournament.

ngl i'm obviously grateful for the fact that medication exists that can make me function as a human without the extreme period cramps once a month and without the vomiting due to pain.
but the fact that the medication instantly and very obviously also made me. like. fully numb to life. is really not fun and i really don't think it's fair that those are the two like........... options... that exist
#i stopped birth control after i had a panic attack in a shop in london bc i'd felt increasingly anxious for years#and it just completely ruined my holiday#and after the first 3 ish years without any hormones my body reverted to my teenaged troubles#rn we're taking this birth control to keep the cyst from growing even more until it's my time for surgery#so i'm like. it's acceptable and i'm okay like this#bc it's not nearly as bad as it used to be#and i'm allowed to stop taking it if i want but if i have to choose rn between the two evils#i'd rather be a lil numb#also means i'm less actively upset at my job that i hate. bc i'm just kinda numb. win win ??#it's gonna be an interesting follow up appointment though bc i cannot live longterm on birth control#if it comes to that i'm just gonna be like 'bro we'll just call it quits on the uterus situation'#bc i'm not trialing the spiral or the other invasive and scary option#when hormones alrEADy fuck me up#it's either migraine city or anxiety city or apparently now depression city#and i would just like none of those thx#i'm not having kids with this body so like. i don't need ovulation#i've had 16-17 years of it. i think i can be done now#my endometriosis journey is slow rn but we're just holding out until november#me and my 10 cm cyst............ that's like. a tennis ball. inside my body. waiting to cause me more pain. can you even comprehend ??#this is so tmi but i'm just like. so tired of this numbness ?#i'm not usually an emotional person but considering that i was kind of like this back when i was 18-22#no wonder my mum used to comment on me never crying at films#insane to think i actually socialized at uni#anyways#time to go to sleep to wake up early and go teach at a place i really don't wanna be at ✌🏽🤪

Public service announcement:
The appropriate way to deal with a panic attack is basically anything except shouting at the person having one and screaming at them to “calm down” and “stop breathing so fast” and “you’re being dramatic”.
You’d think someone with anxiety and prone to panic attacks would know better.
- sincerely, someone who is really starting to dislike her mother again.

Knowing very little about clothing construction beyond the basics of how to hand sew in a straight(ish) line, combined with machine made fast fashion garments that fall apart easily, means it takes me waaaay longer to fix a button or a ripped pocket than it really should
#Everything's always hidden by something else#I'm not undoing an entire lining just to get at the back of a button so yes this piece of clothing now will never sit right I'll live#Also my dad's stuff is mostly tennis clothing and WHY IS THERE SO MUCH MESH#WHY IS THERE ALWAYS MESH STUFF OVER EVERYTHING THERE DOESN'T NEED TO BE#I can't fix a pocket because there's mesh in front of it#And the pocket was already going to be a bugger because it's that awful stretchy wafer thin sporty material#That rips if you so much as look at it#I don't know enough about clothes for this I just want to salvage a perfectly good coat or pair of shorts#I understand hiding the constituent parts of a piece of clothing if it's good quality but if you haven't sewed the buttons on properly#Why the hell did you even bother covering them up I shouldn't have to do open heart surgery on a cheap jacket#Rule number 1 should really be if it's poorly made it should be easy to access the bits to fix it#But that would be too much#Obviously this is not the machinist's fault they're doing their best at probably shit wages and again they have a machine#Something which I am too scared of to even use let alone buy#But it frustrates me#I have to fix all this by hand it takes time I can't just rip out a lining for a button#Literally the only thing I own that doesn't make me want to rip my own arm off when attempting to fix are denim dungarees#Like the only piece of women's clothing that are easy to repair and even better if I do a shit job it's still fine because they're dungarees#They're sort of supposed to look patchy and worn

i guess i’m being a hypocritical andrey apologist because like yeah 99% of the time i would HATE if anyone else did literally anything that he’s doing rn but given what we know about who he is i cant even be mad about racket smashing etc because i’m just like. deeply worried for him. like he’s not doing that because he’s an asshole or a sore loser (well. he is. but like theres reasons.) like he is clearly having a major depressive episode (or something of the sort) and no ones doing anything about it

In order for me to do one thing i need to conquer a million other things.
I want to start playing tennis, in order to do that i need to be trained first to be fit so first...
i have to wake up early and be consisten
I have to eat well and sleep well to not get dizzy
I have to buy sport clothes that i feel comfortable in
I have to stop fearing to be looked at while running (how my face gets so red how i might look ugly, how my body (certain parts) moves)
I have to handle being heavy on my own legs
I have to do exercises without fearing looking like a beginner because well.. i am.
So i have to love myself. I have to love myself and i have to love myself.

JAMES POTTER THE MAN THAT HE IS i wholeheartedly believe would spoil you so much and you’d make sugar daddy joke about him CONSTANTLY even if you were the same age
"Why has your aunt just told me I look too young to be your boyfriend?" James leans over to murmur against your ear, throwing a glance at your aunt who's currently indulging in another glass of wine that she doesn't need.
"I dunno," You shrug, "Older ladies are always saying things about the way people look for their ages."
"Your grandma frowned at me when I came in," James recalls with a groan, "Not necessarily angry, I don't think. Just confused."
"She's always confused," You scoff, "Don't worry James; no one else thinks I've robbed the cradle."
"Y/N," It's a cousin of yours this time, elbowing you hard in the shoulder and sitting down beside you like you're not huddled up privately with your boyfriend, "I thought the wallet you snagged was halfway to the grave already. 'This his son?"
"Wallet?" Your eyes narrow, nose crinkling at the accusation, "What are you talking about?"
"You said you had a sugar daddy," Your cousin scoffs, and realization hooks your stomach, dragging it down towards your feet through an ocean of blood, "We all thought you were gonna bring some war veteran tonight, this kid looks like he just graduated high school."
"I'm twenty-two," James rambles, scandalized, "Y/N, you told them I was your sugar daddy?"
"No! No, I told them ages ago - when we started dating, that I had a boyfriend but- I mean, I dunno, I've thrown around the term sugar daddy while showing off some of your more... extravagant purchases."
"Like the cruise," Your cousin helpfully supplies, "And the tennis bracelet, and the summer home."
"That was a rental," You hiss, "Jamie, I swear I've used boyfriend 90% of the time."
"We thought she was just being optimistic," Your cousin admits, a wrinkled grimace on their face as they rush to free themselves from the awkward conversation, "But- uh, good for you two, remember me in the will."
"Oh my god," James buries his face in his hands, "They thought I was ancient. They thought I was some pervert chasing after girls, throwing money at the ones who'd pity me enough to look my way."
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, Jamie," You croon, taking his face into your hands and shooing his own away. He leans in desperately to the soothing kisses that you stick to his face, looking for all the world like he might die of embarrassment right here right now. For all that he moans and groans, he's tucked himself into your hold like a helpless infant, and you're happy to oblige his neediness.
"No more using the word daddy." James instructs, though he's not in a position to make orders while nestled securely in your protective grip, "Not unless we decide to take a leap of faith in the bedroom. God, no wonder your grandma was so disappointed when she saw me- I don't have enough wrinkles for her."
