I love nearly every character (Only nearly because I don’t particularly care for Walter) from Yellowjackets. They’re all just so traumatized and scared and angry and tired and I love them. No matter what they do. And as I’m wont to do, I think about better for them.
I love Lottie and I think about her having a life where she can be loved with her schizophrenia seen as a part of her, but not the end all be all to her. Because whether she’s back home or out there in the wildernesses she is confined by it. Her parents fear it and isolate her for it. The team; the team either does the same or they raise her on a pedestal as a prophet. She is alone. In the wilderness, at least, she once was loved in her isolation. But she was still isolated. I feel like her disease has been ignored as being a part of her for so long by her family in the outside world, and then in the wilderness it becomes all of who she is, even to herself. Especially to herself. And she is so much more than her disease. She tried to be nonviolent for so long out there too, but eventually something just broke.
I love Shauna and I think about her having a life where she learns to love herself. To give love and take love easily. Not with sharp jaws and a cruel smile, but with genuine care and affection. Care and affection that the wilderness stripped her of, replacing with malice and greed. She does not know how to love. She only knows how to hurt and she hates it but she’s also so so good at it and she just wants the world to feel the pain she felt.
I love Tai. Both Tais, btw. I think about her living a life where she doesn’t have to hide. Where she isn’t constantly haunted by so much. Not just the wilderness, but childhood trauma. Shown through the flashback with her grandma and her seeing the man with no eyes. (Side note: I have a lot of thoughts on that flashback, the man with no eyes, and Other Tai that I was to explore more in depth at a later time.) She wants to be so strong but is so full of fear and more than that, anguish, and it comes to points where she just can’t take it anymore, and other Tai steps in. And other Tai is human too. Please don’t forget that. She is not evil. She is clearly Tai’s protector, and she clearly cares for Van just as much as the Tai we know does. She’s not hurting Tai purposefully by fronting with everything that’s been going on, she just thinks that she is the one, of the two of them, who can save her. She thinks that she’s doing what’s best for them in the end.

So much of coach’s narrative comes down to agency and his continual loss of it and I find that devastating. His struggle to be autonomous is wrapped up in his rocky relationship to his identity which is why he chose nationals over Paul despite maybe knowing in the back of his mind that making the terrifying decision could change his life for the better, and assuming he is guaranteed return. He values what he perceives to be safety over happiness because it’s all he knows, only to be wrong, and ends up regretting it in retrospect. The crash puts him in a position where despite being able bodied his entire life, he suddenly has to rely on a group of teenagers, his students whom he’s expected to care for himself and feels a responsibility to, are now the ones taking care of him, and overseeing other survival tasks that despite his practical know-how, he finds himself unable to do.
As they spend more time in the wilderness it becomes apparent to him that the team doesn’t really want nor need his help or advice anymore and feeling, too, that he might be useless, he resigns himself to inaction and fails the team he was supposed to protect and support without meaning to because his control over them is fickle and dwindling anyway. He tries to intervene both times but is met with disagreement from the collective as two of his students die preventable deaths because what does he have aside from his words, and would they listen anyway? He falls into despair imagining what his life might have looked life if he had chosen himself, if he had exercised any agency, but hypotheticals are useless. He checks out entirely as Shauna is giving birth in the other room.
He takes his life into his own hands for possibly the first time by deciding to end it and is interrupted. He realizes what witnessing an event like that would do to Misty and chooses his responsibility to her instead.
He finally makes an autonomous choice again in leaving; wanting not to hurt them but to save himself and so he stays far away. He leaves behind the only person he can trust because she has made it clear to him that she isn’t so different from the rest of them, and not for the first time, he is left completely alone. He regains his will to live but not even necessarily because that’s what he wants and more because he’s afraid, and in his head, the alternative is dying and being eaten. He is hyper aware of the way his leg is a disadvantage to him in a survival situation. So he leaves.
He scavenges and starves but makes do on his own. He adapts. He kidnaps Mari and feeds her and fixes her knee because even after the fear that prompts his departure, she’s scared and she’s hurt and she’s his to take care of. He knows that even if it means he pays for it with his life, he has to let her go. He probably figures she will talk, what other choice does she have? Upon being found, he saves Shauna and Van and Akilah, only to be captured. He knows going into the trial that it won’t be fair. He has no other options. He has no agency.
He is sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. He’s placed in an animal pen, his only means of mobility withheld from him. He’s dragged to a tree to be shot by his former team and isn’t even afforded the dignity of a look in the eye as they do it. He can’t do anything about it. An eleventh hour prophetic vision spares his life, but the severing of his Achilles as the newly settled upon punishment violently strips him of what mobility he had left, and he hadn’t been afforded agency since he was off on his own. He’s left immobile and he’s in pain and he isn’t even allowed to die of his own accord despite his begging and pleading. Even if he knows it’s selfish or horrible or irrational to ask Nat to help him do it, he keeps begging because he has nothing left. Not even choice.
To be allowed to die is the one thing he wants and in granting him his final wish, She gives him back his agency. It’s not what she wants for him and she will feel that guilt for the rest of her life. She knows it will get her in trouble with the rest of the group, but it’s what he wants. That means something to her.

Yellowjackets S3 Ep2 thoughts
spoilers below ⚠️
I'm laughing my fucking ass off, Mari's scared for her life screaming like an NPC and Ben is talking like a coach again... Honestly this has convinced me maybe Ben didn't set the fire (although before now I also have liked the theory other Tai did it, this just solidifies it a bit for me)
The switch from Ben yelling push to Mari and Shauna digging up her dead baby to hold him... Oh I'm crying. HE WASNT THERE WHEN SHE NEEDED TO BE TOLD TO PUSH AND NOW HES THERE TO TELL MARI! AGGH
Shauna burying her baby in a different place, rejecting the miracle and occult ideas of the wilderness the other girls have come to welcome
Misty the simp of all time
Taivan going to but "not going with them" lol they know Misty's just going to be trying to get comfy with Nat the whole time
Van's arms, that's it
Lottie's being problematic about inducing drug psychosis... Who would have guessed
Shauna actually saying something good about her family for once. Damn who knew all it took was for your kid to commit assault for you to start actually loving them
SIX WEEKS, HOW THE HELL IS LOTTIE OUT TF, I can't complain I guess
Lottie they were cruel af for calling psych on you (it's logical but coming from the YELLOWJACKETS it's just hypocritical) but those crocodile tears... The definition of grown ass puppy eyes. She sniffles!
Callie already ride and die for Lottie... Did she forget she SHOT her... Oh wait, I forgot that's literally Callie's dad obv she's ride or die 🤗
Jeff checking to make sure Lottie leaves to the porch before speaking his mind HAH
Van's got some PIPES, Taivan freaky once again everyone 👏
Walter and Misty are so simp4simp except Walter is the one person Misty won't simp for... She's digging her nose into that jacket and springing to attention AS SOON as Shauna calls... Walter can't believe this girl
wtf is up with Walter in that scene where Misty is talking to him. Dude looks like he's grieving, in depression, and scheming all at once I don't even know
Oh yeah Crystal, they didn't have a grave for her either (or mention her) on top of Laura Lee last episode (and before you talk about that theory that she doesn't exist, I'm pretty sure that's easily ruled out as not being possible)
Nat does not wanna talk to Misty... And she sure as hell is trying hard to hate Ben/look like she hates Ben... My Nat and Coach Ben friendship... I'm mourning
Callie's more afraid of Misty than Lottie (valid??) but this is hilarious she's immediately freaked out the contrast is insane
Nat sees the trap (Ben's) and tries to hide it, so obviously she doesn't actually want the girls to know/think he's alive, im wondering if she's found his traps before or not. Maybe she hasn't and that's another reason she gets super surprised
Anyways more Mistynat 😭😭😭 Nat's horrible at lying...
HOLY FUCK VAN'S ARMS 🙇🙇🙇
Wtf are lottie and Travis doing... Lottie stop feeding his psychosis baby 🙏
Lottie is sooo insane this season
Misty is absolutely failing at babysitting Lottie and Callie. Callie wants to get them drunk enough to talk sooo bad. Lottie IS the father
Mari and Ben team up?
Uh I just ate my words.
Anyways
A NOOSE??? Mari is not having a fun time, damn... She's catching Ls left and right
Now who was that in the bathroom???
These start up bros are super weird... And Shauna's catching them on their shit
They have ducks and bunnies 😵‍💫 absolute art
His name is Mortimer? His name is Mortimer!
Oh Travis deserves so much better my baby ❤️❤️
LOTTIE DONT, he needs a wilderness restraining order on her fr...
Why does Lottie make Travis the test dummy for this "communication"?? I'm interested because she isn't acting like this to any of the others, not even Nat (who sort of has the blessing of the wilderness)
Oh well Akilah is NOT safe now...
I KNEW IT! MISTY'S PLAYING THE CARDS IN HER FAVOUR TO GET ATTENTION. Shauna still doesn't like her though lol
Oh my Lord forget the Caligula dance number they FILMED THIS for a tv segment for the TV show...
Question is, what did Lottie spill to Callie while Misty was out cold?
Callie braiding Lotties hair <3
Misty just wants to have toxic one-sided codependent friendships Walter, what's so wrong about that? 🙄
Well Ben might be a bit insane
Ooo who laid flowers at wilderness baby's new grave?
Oh, well Melissa with her stupid ass boy shorts and that pretty crop top, she's so pretty 😍 her poor hat's gone MIA though
I'm gay, Melissa's gay, Shauna's a girl kisser
Shaunahat has to be one of the most interesting things i have ever seen
Oh they're freaky alright WITH THE KNIFE AT THE NECK STILL
Ending thoughts:
Want more Laura Lee... obviously I'm a sucker for Jane Widdop I would love to see them back on the show for flashbacks, but overall just an acknowledgment of Laura Lee this season ❤️
Is Ben insane? Is he hallucinating or actually talking to someone and we just can't see/hear them?
Wtf is up with teen Lottie?
What is going to happen with Callie regarding the Yellowjackets and the Wilderness?
I'm still manifesting a pig blood orgy like those mean highschool girls 🤷
More Shaunahat honestly 😈 , would love to see more teen Taivan
I don't think Akilah is going to be safe anymore after this episode since Travis just put Lottie on her.

so I'm watching Yellowjackets (finally) and I'm on s2e4 and I don't think I've ever had such mixed opinions on a cast of characters in my life.
for some reason, I love Shauna. Maybe I love Melanie Lynskey's portrayal of her but she's bitchy and selfish and I get her. she's a questionable wife, not a good mother, consistently makes reckless decisions and somehow is a good 'straight man' next to nat and misty.
as a subsection of Shauna, Jeff weirdly works for me. He's not my favorite, but I don't despise him. Callie as a character makes sense but it's hard to watch an actress in her late twenties (at the time of filming) playing an angsty teen. #mycultureisNOTyourcostume. also it almost doesn't really work if Callie is supposed to be 17/18 and hanging out with this older cop because it's weird and no one's talking about it. I do appreciate how much she cares about protecting their fucked up unit.
Jackie started losing me about halfway through season 1. I understood her but she quickly fell into the background. I sympathized with her anger but I also know while everyone on the team was pissed at her for not helping. she didn't need to lose her ear tho
misty just keeps growing on me. she does not seem very empathetic or self aware, but i feel for her being outcasted by the team for twenty-five straight years. I also am having a lot of fun with her arc with Elijah Wood. Not in love with his character just yet, but I don't mind his presence.
I like Crystal... I think. But I think her biggest crime is being a theater kid, then she's like a saint compared to the rest of the cast.
taissa is another one of my favorites. She's too fierce for her own good which constantly ostracizes people, but I feel for her a lot of the time. She clearly shows that she's afraid of herself and fears getting close to people and I'm scared of what that means for her and van in the 90s.
Van is such a breath of fresh air in the doom and gloom. She's not overly cynical like the rest of the girls, but she's not fake positive to the point it's annoying. Also I'm obsessed with her 70s aesthetic as an adult and she has like the best casting from teen to adult I've seen so far.
Simone feels very one note and almost exclusively just tells Taissa what she's doing wrong, but I understand her perspective because what she's had to go through is unimaginable.
Lottie is starting to grow on me this season. I don't know if the show is going explicitly supernatural or not, but with clairvoyance or without, Lottie is clearly being tortured by what's in her mind. It's super compelling to watch her desperately cling onto her delusions because they're literally all she has.
I go back and forth on Nat, but I can never quite dislike her. I like her in the 90s timeline a little bit more, but primarily because she's more snarky and active than cynical and passive.
I absolutely despised Travis at first, but he became less of an asshole. I don't quite like him but I don't mind his scenes anymore.
I'm so neutral on Ben. I feel like there were so many other ways to avoid Misty's romantic feelings for him than lying to her like that, but to each their own.
Mari is probably my least favorite. She's such a contrarian, but not to the point that it's funny.
I really liked Laura Lee. Misguided as her intentions were, she was genuinely so sweet.
I like Akilah, but there's not much to say about her.
I think that's everyone with anything to say about

Tumblr media
Is that how Canada celebrates Thanksgiving?
I don't understand how people can say this show is falling off. The girls are getting worse and more deranged every episode, isn't that what we signed up for in the pilot?
I have so many thoughts about this episode.
Van is finally connecting the dots that the other Tai has been in that body for a long time. I fear for my girl because Tai calling her and waking up asking for help and the other Tai taking over immediately was scary asf. What is Van supposed to do? She is just a girl my god.
Also, it doesn't matter what Tai is awake they would do anything for Van, and that it's somehow romantic to me.
Tai met Lottie the day she died. She definitely killed her.
I'm assuming we didn't hear the tape because we are going to listen to it with Callie and whatever happened in the next episode with those "hikers". Callie is about to meet a version of her mom that either will make her respect Shauna or be very scared of her.
Poor Nat but thank god she killed Ben, not only because I want him gone but because they were torturing that man just because of a vision that they don't really know what it meant.
When Mari discovered he wasn't eating I thought he killed all the animals, and with winter close they would have to eat each other. Because I really want to know how and why they'd start hunting people again, Tai said they are prepared this time for winter, and we can see they have enough animals and they ration the food.
But eating Ben to "honor him" even tho they didn't have to it's a good indicator that they do it just because they want to. Shauna proposed to honor him but they all agreed and they all ate him.
Akilah is either going to die for going to that damn cave too much or she is going to be saved because Lottie will protect her till the end. It's amazing to see how much power Lottie has, what she said goes, She chose Natalie then Shauna, and they all agreed. The church appointed the leader, not democracy whatsoever.
People love to talk shit about my girl Shauna but that punishment probably saved Nat from being exiled or killed, all this over Ben mind you. I agreed that Shauna was a bit evil when she decided that but she stayed with Nat the whole time and covered Ben's face so it'd be easier, she just wanted Nat to feel how she felt. When she said I cover my eyes but I know what I'm doing, my god she is just a girl whose soul has been stripped away, and it's full of anger of resentment.
"Ben is the bridge to civilization" was right and those "hikers" found them because they were dancing and screaming to ritualistically eat Ben, but yeah I don't think they are hikers or are the responsible for the girls getting rescue.
And they definitely are cooked. They just delivered food straight to their door. Maybe, they would have had a chance a few hours before but now under Shauna's administration, I don't think Shauna is going to let them go so they can tell the world they were cannibalising for fun. And now we have a new candidate for Pit girl, and my girl Mary is getting rescue iktr.
And the most important part of this episode JackieShauna confirmation #3224544. Shauna makes Melissa wear Jackie's clothes I believe this is true and the reason we haven't seen them kiss again is because Shauna is going to imagine Jackie so we get a JackieShauna kiss. This is true.
It's also very important to me that they were joking about Melissa calling her Shipman because that's how Jackie called her. I love they acknowledge this.
Those hikers are really dumb because if I heard a bunch of people screaming I wouldn't walk straight right to it. So, whatever happens next it's on them.
Why did Gen push Nat like that? I'm praying that she is pitgirl too.
I'm fine with Melissa being Shauna's lapdog but screaming shut the fuck to Natalie, even Shauna was weirded out. She needs to calm down I fear
Misty screaming "arrested her" to the wilderness?
What was that Lottie saw before the food arrived?
It's crazy to me how Lottie is very important in the teen timeline but they couldn't fit her in the adult one.
Some people are doing too much about Misty kissing Ben. It was sad for me.
Walter needs to die.
It's amazing how there are no bad actors in this show.

Yellowjackets - 03x03 Thoughts
Chat, I am not staying up until midnight for new releases so for those of you that care about these, you’re getting them Friday morning. As per usual, thoughts below the cut.
Opening the recap with Jackie and Shauna, I know that’s right
Mari, singing I’m too sexy in the caves, I love this bitch. Need her to be the 8th survivor fr
Is Mari having a main character arc this season, love that her
Mari, your goal to get him to not kill you is to be so annoying that he returns you, have we learned nothing from season 1 Misty.
This opening is making me amazed that Mari hasn’t died yet, girl has no survival instincts
I feel like there are new scenes in this opening credits set, but I can’t tell if that’s just because I didn’t pay close enough attention last week
Van not dying of cancer confirmed?
LottieShauna co-parenting arc dropping?!
Will someone eat Shauna’s breakfast!
Not Ben having an existential crisis over his hostage
Mmm not a fan whatever is going in the cave walls
MARI CHARACTER LORE EPISODE! I USE TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THESE
Not Mari lowkey being the most sane in season 3
Lottie teaching Callie how to shoplift, she is not beating the step father allegations
Shauna and Misty friendship arc, weird but I kinda dig it
Misty, you are in fact coming on too strong in this lunch
TaiVan experiencing happiness, this will last all of 5 minutes; but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts
Other Tai present with Van in adult timeline?
Tai is 100% going off the rails this season and I love that for her. Though her and Lottie are going to be a problem if they’re coming together to maximize their joint slay
Had me stressing that they were going to kill Mari, my sarcastic queen lives to see another day
Mookie scoring Shauna’s car going off the rails, cinema
Tbf Misty, your track record is making it logical for Shauna to jump to these conclusions
Shauna, also calling Misty a psychopath, like pot meet kettle girl. You are not mentally sound either
Hat Melissa is back!
Mari, you interrupted my Shaunahat moment!
Mari held that resolve for all of 5 minutes, honestly I give her credit for trying to lie
Lottie is clearly on the Akilah train now, this will end well I’m sure
Not Callie getting wine drunk with Lottie and making dinner
Jackie’s necklace on Callie, Jackie Taylor you are the father
Melanie Lynskey Emmy campaign incoming
Need TaiVan to fuck nasty in an episode, either timeline will do
Tai’s Man With No Eyes vision coming from a shitty ad makes so much sense
Misty’s about to crash out the back end of this season, I can feel it
I love Shauna, but I feel like she should not be leading this expedition to find Ben
I do need them to light some of the scenes better, because they are hard to as hell to watch sometimes
Tai and Van going to do weird forest bullshit together?
Nat is holding on to this leadership position with white knuckles and dream and Shauna is coming with her crazy ass and nothing to lose, which I’m sure bodes well for Nat
Not Melissa being the only one to understand Misty
How have none of these bitches gotten trench foot
Going into the caves where you can’t stand had never been the right idea I fear
Van in the void or tunnel system?
I know every horror movie this butch has ever watched is playing through her brain right now
IS THIS A FUCKING PORTAL TO ANOTHER DIMENSION/AFTERLIFE?!
Are they all on drugs?! Did Lottie pull a Misty?
WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A TALKING LLAMA WITH A WEIRD ASS NJ ACCENT
Ohh Jesus, Shauna is hallucinating her dead son
Is this the wilderness trying to connect with them?
WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!!!
JACKIE TAYLOR IS BACK AND SERVING CUNT
Whelp this is where the crazy eyed shot of Shauna comes from
I have never been more confused by an episode of television
I don’t what the fuck that was; but it was probably one of my favorite episodes of the show

Why is everyone assuming that the whole team was in on Natalie's plan and Mari and gang knew she was a decoy for Shauna when at most, Misty and Nat, Van, and maybe Akilah and Lottie knew.
We know Akilah and Lottie called for the hunt, but we don't know why
We know Misty and Nat were working together and Misty knows what Natalie's done
And Van probably too because she was working on the phone and talking to Misty about it
But there's no correlation between the hunt and their plan confirmed yet
It's possible they were waiting for the right distraction and chanced into it at the hunt
But why would Lottie call for a hunt if she knew they'd call for rescue during it, when everything she's done has been in favour of staying back indefinitely?
Mari was a decoy, yes, but an unwitting one at best. Van wasn't in on Gen's plan to distract Taissa and slow down the hunt. This tells me she didn't know she was a decoy and believed the hunt was for real. And so did Tai. And Van. So can we stop saying Mari wasn't supposed to die during the hunt? They were clearly hunting for real. Sure, they didn't want to but odds are that if they caught her they would have ended her out of fear of being taken out of they didn't, the same way Natalie let Javi die
That showed us that if it came to it these girls knew by now it was this us vs them mentality with the hunt where somebody HAD to die for it to be called off
Which is why Melissa was gunning for Shauna
Melissa who's Gen's best friend and Mari's friend and Akilah's
What I'm saying is if it was a collective plan to distract Shauna then why wouldn't they pick Mari to begin with, knowing it wasn't for real, and then hide her from Shauna specifically and Taissa, long enough for this plan to work? Why try to target Hannah who was clearly not involved in it? And Tai was clearly under the assumption that the hunt was real and so was Van or they wouldn't be talking about who to hunt and picking Hannah, because they knew her the least, they would be talking about picking based on speed, so they can have someone faster outrun Shauna.
My guess is the hunt was always real and Lottie rigged it because she wanted to see the vision through so she had Akilah kill the animals to force a hunt because she just wanted to do it, to have them prove their fealty by killing somebody so she wasn't the only one to kill for it. I think she just wanted confirmation bias for that vision tbh.
And when they heard there's gonna be a hunt, Misty and Natalie decided to use it as a distraction for Shauna while Natalie hikes up to the mountain because it's the only time she couldn't keep eyes on her.
So Misty gave Nat the antenna, Van told her where to find the phone and Natalie went and took it, then last minute when she caught Hannah, she figured "fuck it" and swapped coats and masks with her to throw Shauna off even more, and carted the phone up the mountain while everyone continued the hunt, unbeknownst to anyone but Misty, presumably Van, and Hannah.
Now, the only person Shauna knows for sure is involved is Hannah. Misty and Van were part of Shauna's crew during the schism so next season I imagine she'll try to get answers through her or kill her or torture her, basically the others are probably in the clear but Hannah's pretty fucked. But yeah, nobody else was really involved as far as we've seen, it just lined up perfectly and the hunt happened at just the right time when they needed it.

Straight off the dome YJ Season 3 Finale thoughts (SPOILERS)
Yeah we're skipping Ep 9. I'm so sad it's over!
I think we can all agree that this hasn't been the best season. But holy shit did I have fun watching it and this episode was sooooo good my adrenaline was spiked the whole time.
Okay so uh wow. I was expecting a bigger cliff-hanger from the way they talked about it in interviews, but that certainly was one. And it took place on a literal cliff!
SO glad that the 8 survivors thing is lowkey invalid now since we know there were more than 8 people at the pit-girl ritual.
Shauna main characterism is real and I love her so much. She did annoy me once or twice in this episode I won't lie, and IRL I would be so scared of her, but she won me back during the Melissa thing. I knew you'd wind up to be fucking boring.
Okay controversial but I LOVED that what ended up being Lottie's downfall (no pun intended) was her just being super creepy about the wilderness to the wrong person! It's almost gotten her killed so many times, so I think it worked. Also her saying that the wilderness took their baby and Callie is the replacement is sooooo Lottie of her.
Where's Akilah. I liked her scene with Lottie but I was so concerned about her for the rest of the episode.
Poor Mari. I knew she would be pit girl but I really didn't want it to be her. Also DAMN she had maybe the most body-horrory mutilation scenes, that was AWFUL to look at.
Okay. I know this was not at all the point of this conversation between Travis and Shauna but can we talk about SLUMBER PARTY MAKEOUTS??????? Jackieshauna literally confirmed we just keep winning and winning.
Also Travis saying that he has Javi's thoughts is so sad, and also lowkey points to how fucked his brain must be from all the substance use out in the wilderness. Also maybe THIS episode should have been called 12 angry girls and 1 drunk Travis lol.
Adult Shauna kinda reaping what she sows, but also the scene between her and post-heart-consumption Tai was sweet. I wish we had more moments with them. Also their moment in the teen timeline was...way steamier than it needed to be? Idk maybe they're just really good friends...
A little sad that Jackie wasn't the antler queen but damn did I enjoy watching Shauna win. Even though she straight up lost right after.
Callie and Jeff taking space is so valid and I love their dynamic this episode, those two have incredible acting chemistry.
Van and Tai tearful hug is so important to me.
Nat/Misty dynamic this episode DELICIOUS YES PLEASE GIVE ME MORRREEEE
I want to make a million edits now but I have no idea what to do. Holy shit. We're done with season 3!! I'm sad but also so happy that it ended on a high note, this was maybe...the best episode of the season? Aside from 6 and 7 I guess.
Thanks to anyone who read and enjoyed these insane jumbles of thoughts love y'all. See you for season 4! (Showtime if you don't renew it I will FIND YOU)

a few quick thoughts about a yellowjackets tbosas au
it's still the 10th annual hunger games. the biggest difference here is that we're just choosing 2 tributes randomly out of a hat because if you do the boy-girl rule in yellowjackets you run out of boys almost immediately.
our relevant mentor tribute pairs
jackie- nat (7)
shauna- javi (7)
lottie- laura lee (6)
tai (originally from 2)- van (2)
akilah- her dead bestie rachel (10)
mari- melissa (5)
misty- crystal (8)
some others are there. jeff and randy are both definitely Capitol and there being frustrating, but none of the other pairs are Interesting to the Plot.
the academy students are all varying levels of Upset About This Idea.
akilah is basically on the lysistrata vickers level of "wow this is pretty messed up. wish we didn't have to do this but i guess i'll help take care of this person and OOPS i got attached".
tai was determined Not to Get Invested but then it turned out that her tribute was her childhood girlfriend and she's seething at her father and suddenly very invested in getting her out alive. she's been so careful to be a Good Capitolite. she's done everything that she can to deserve her spot here, keep her life and ambitions up. why did he have to pull this?
laura lee decides Immediately that lottie is some sort of wonderful savior and lottie, who has never meant much of anything to anyone, imprints on her immediately.
mari taunts her tribute at the zoo and melissa kills her for it. then the capitol kills her and parades her body through the streets. "mari was such a kind, gentle soul" and then the girls are just chattering about how she just spread a rumor about coach ben getting chlamydia
misty has never had a friend. she thinks that maybe she can make one in her tribute. she spends a lot of time trying to cozy up to her and eventually calls them besties and crystal just SNAPS. no, we aren't besties. you're treating me like a doll and they're going to kill me. and you still won't know anything about me.
jackie thinks that it's all messed up, but the more she gets to know her tribute the less that she cares about, like, her. specifically. nat won't pretend that this isn't all disgusting, and jackie just wants her to shut up and smile for a second so that she might get an okay grade on this project? okay? she mainly just wants to help shauna with her angelic twelve year old boy that's got the capitol enamored. if anyone needs the scholarship to attend the university, it's shauna. why not pool their resources? and if nasty natalie doesn't have a mentor who really cares?
shauna is very determined to be Visibly Good. she, unlike some people (cough jackie cough) actually CARES about these kids dying. she, unlike some people, is invested in getting hers home for the RIGHT REASONS! the scholarship is just a bonus, really. and she'll use it to get into a program on the opposite side of campus from jackie. she's tired of being jackie's half willing sidekick, content to fuck her boyfriend behind her back and lie in wait.
on the tribute front:
nat and javi are both from district 7. nat shot her dad recently and has quite A Reputation around the district. no one is very sad to see her name come out of the ball. javi martinez, however, has just turned 12. everyone, including his brother, is bereft about it...
except travis could have, and didn't, volunteer for him. their dad yelled and screamed and cursed, but his older son didn't "act like a man" and take his baby brother's fate.
van never expected to see taissa turner again. certainly not through the bars of a cage right before being shipped off to face her death. funny how things work when you get to rekindle a childhood flame on death's door.
laura lee is the sole sober member of a family of morphlings and tries to remain optimistic that there is SOMETHING out there that matters. she follows every custom and tradition she can find and talks lottie's ear off about them when her name is pulled. "i was picked for a reason, lottie matthews. it's so i could meet you." "it's so i could SAVE YOU" laura lee smiles. "perhaps. or maybe i'll save you?"
laura lee saves her from the blast at the arena. they still put her in to fight to the death with a body riddled with third degree burns she acquired by saving a capitol child. lottie sneaks into the arena, performs a quick funeral rite, and lights herself on fire along with her. this, of course, is never televised. later, she's recorded as another casualty of the rebel bombing on the arena.
the fire engulfs a great deal of the arena. tai sends van every water bottle that she and others with dead tributes left combined, but it's not enough to put out her out. 3 girls lost to flames.
rachel helped akilah escape the blast too. she takes a fall trying to help javi get away from a much bigger, scarier tribute. akilah talks about how she was important and a good person on live tv. they cut the feed afterwards
crystal gets a few sponsors, but misty is still miffed at her about what she said before the games started. she doesn't send her anything, and the girl starts to die of dehydration. then misty sends something, but it only alerts someone else to her location. thus dies crystal the pistol
nat thinks that her mentor is a real prissy bitch. javi's is a little better. they've already decided to work together as long as they can. the mentors call themselves "best friends" but they can't communicate to save their lives. they get dragged into working together, for real, near the end of the games when nat and javi are almost the only ones left.
jeff's tribute is still out there, a really large guy with a smaller sidekick. jackie doesn't really like her boyfriend and she knows that shauna REALLY hates him, so she's willing to come up with an idea to beat him and give shauna the prize money.
"it'll have to be my tribute at the end, though," jackie tells her. it's a good strategy, really. they got her girl a gun and javi is a willowy little boy- so small he looks too young to be out there. if someone can actually take down those big guys, it's going to be The Girl Who Killed Her Own Dad. but not when she's shielding her tiny little pursedog from them.
shauna is angry- righteously angry. you think that this is about beating jeff? the scholarship? winning? this is about getting that kid home?
jackie sighs. "that's not going to happen, shipman. you know that." the best she can offer is this. "it's like a fact of the universe, like how i have to date jeff til college." she doesn't want to date jeff, but it was the best option she had. she doesn't want to mentor in these stupid violent games, but there's nothing else to be done. these are the cards they were dealt.
"i slept with him," shauna tells her. then they have a very ugly, brutal verbal fight while their tributes run from the bigger ones.
shauna and jackie keep arguing about what it's about practicality or morality while they wander through the arena, trying to clear their heads.
shauna decides to sneak in to try to give javi something to help him win, jackie follows to try to talk her out of it, and it ends with her dragging a bleeding jackie back out.
javi dies in the scuffle, nat kills the two big guys, and jackie dies in the aftermath.
shauna gets the prize money. everyone who lived through it is scared by the experience, and a lot of them are executed by the government of panem.
natalie hates herself and goes back to district 7 where the only person who understands her brand of Hating Herself is javi's older brother, who didn't volunteer for him and was responsible for his death too. none of the mentors, however, ever take place in another hunger games. so they've got the upperhand on snow with that

YELLOWJACKETS THEORIES
we know it can’t be lottie in s1, and it doesn’t make sense for it to be mari because mari couldn’t survive on her own out there — she’s pretty useless — and (unknown) was wearing a white nightgown and the heart necklace jackie gave to shauna. if it were mari i doubt shauna would wear it because that would be death after death associated with that necklace. so the only other viable option is that it’s callie.
how would this happen? the wilderness wasn’t satisfied with nat because she wasnt eaten. it wants more blood and it wants them to feed the hunger that’s been so deep inside them since they got rescued. they each (without telling each other) venture out to the woods, and shauna brings callie with her because she wants to see. when they all find each other at the cabin ruins they’re faced with that heavy heart they felt out in the wilderness all those years ago. shauna asks callie to stay in the car (they’re sleeping in the car — it’s a minivan so it works) and they gather around a fire near the other girls’ tents (yes tai and van are sharing). they talk about how they miss nat but then the conversation shifts and van tells them about her cancer. she tells them how she almost completely beat it after nat died— like lottie said, but about a month later; it came back worse than ever before. shauna owns up to jeff and hers relationship getting better and then them completely destroyed by the affair AGAIN. lottie talks about how her visions went away but came back worse and more often. misty shares with them that her life was great with walter but then he left her. with a shared look they all realize; the wilderness wants them to eat. and just as they realize— callie comes out of the car in her nightgown and snow boots, telling her mom that she needs help. she wanted another blanket but couldn’t find any, so lottie tells her that she has extra in her car. all of the girls look at each other.
AND ONE MORE CAR PULLS UP
It’s Akilah.
Akilah was the only other MAIN character that we saw more often than not on the screen. so let’s say she’s alive. all of the girls are shocked, because they heard she died in the hospital. after they become reacquainted the girls discuss this wilderness ordeal and what they have to do. lottie pulls out her cards eventually, and they all pick; alas, no one pulls the queen. but callie, unsuspecting and unknowing, picks up a queen card next to the blanket in lottie’s car. she shrugs and yells “i think you dropped a few cards in here”— and all of their eyes widen as callie holds up the card and walks towards them. they all look at each other again and then shauna yells, “RUN” and callie hesitates, but then she sees van and lottie racing for their knives. she starts sprinting and the animal noises begin. she’s terrified for her life and it’s clear. the girls are picking up on her movements because of the snow boots. callie realizes this and takes them off promptly as she hides behind a tree. she runs and runs and runs and runs and runs, until she cannot. the noises go quiet. she stops in this clearing to catch her breath. it looks like a path almost. then the animal noises return. she’s running again, and she runs, and then— she falls into the pit. so on and so on—
how would this make sense?
in ep1 when they’re showing older misty it cuts to a cutscene from the cannibalism party and it’s misty’s glasses FROM WHEN SHES OLDER— the glasses are different people.
and since there are 6 people in masks i added akilah because we didnt see her die yet.
callie would’ve gotten her necklace from shauna before they left; shauna saying “it will keep you safe” WHEN REALLY ITS A MARK FOR DEATH. (but shauna doesn’t realize)
— ie. jackie, shauna in the finale of s2, and callie.

Yellowjackets official trailer thoughts
The SOS message was crossed out to be changed to "SOS going *deeper*" so caves??
Mari's in danger lol
theyre putting together the feast thing I can see at least Nat and Van are I can't tell who the others are
they saved one of the seats from the airplane to turn into a seat at their new camp, just thought that was a cool detail
Lottie gets bloody, probably eating something (think that's her? Looks like her coat too)
second winter hunt outfits so we'll get some sort of look at the second winter
when the girls are jumping (Misty, Akilah, etc) they're chanting "Burn"
Tai shoots someone, probably Ben
Misty is sowing the seeds of deceit into the group, we can see it looks like she's telling Shauna that Nat might know where coach Ben is but just isn't telling them and might not deserve to be the leader. It's really interesting because she's selling out Nat here for supposedly lieing about knowing where Ben is. Maybe she acts the way she does in the adult timeline, being buddy-buddy with Nat because she regrets it
this is what probably leads to Shauna doing her coup thing
Natalie goes back to the plane wreck, she seems shocked? I wouldn't image Ben's actually hiding there so I wonder what that's about
Nat gets beat/hit, guess it's a trial against her (WHHHYYYYY)
and then they go to hunt Ben down I'm guessing to "give the wilderness what it wants"
they let out lanterns, five specifically with Lottie being the head of whatever ceremony this is supposed to be. They're dressed in the same robes as during the new feast
Shauna gets to bury wilderness baby now that the ground is soft again, maybe Nat going back to the plane wreck is to finally bury Jackie's bones
What *did* they tell people when they got rescued? We know Lottie went nonverbal, a good few of them if not all of them probably did at least immediately after. We know they stayed low besides Taissa with her senator stuff but that was even longer after the initial rescue by two decades. They "prayed/preyed" but what else did they tell officials? Will we get a look at an interview scene either for a live show or by the cops maybe?
Shauna is *not* chill this season and I love it but also nat deserves so much better right now
Lottie bites into a piece of meat during the festival thing I think?? The girls are all screaming
Shauna gets a letter with the symbol on it. Note that before this scene we see someone with a letter/file thing in their hands, they're light skinned wearing a gray hoodie, Shauna in the second scene is wearing something different + Shauna also gets a cassette tape (I believe that's what it is)
Someone is picking up a Queen card from the ground, a road (Hilary Swanks new character?)
Tai and Van are out in public, looks like they're talking, they're dressed in all black clothes it looks, idk what's going on anymore
Shauna goes to Misty it looks like about the letter she got and Misty is on the case (dressed in what's probably adult Nat's jacket)
it looks like there's a person in a bag or covered in some sort of sheet?? I have absolutely no clue what this scene is but it's interesting for them to add
Callie and Misty... The duo I never knew I needed. Callie does not believe any of Misty's shit
Ben screaming, like hes definitely being eaten alive i just can't get if he isn't
Lottie gets out of the ward?? Maybe it's a scene of adult Lottie getting out of the ward after she was first put in it after the rescue
misty's cute bright green watch I can't, and really?? Is that underwear as a mask she's a carpet muncher your honour
looks like adult tai eating sea food?
That odd scene of Misty looking to stab Shauna again
Hillary Swanks character running (the only thing I can think of with the focus on Melissa in the trailer and it seeming that she gets more screentime this season is that its adult Melissa)
Tai and Van are running?
we see an arrow hit a tree, which is dod because they don't have a bow and arrow and I know for a fact they don't know how to make a bow and arrow, so unless this is in the adult timeline, very interesting
a very gory scene?? I really can't make it out it might be Tai? It also might be a hand coming down to cover the person's mouth??
infighting during the second winter
weird fire supernatural shit
ghost jackie <3
Nat is horrified
Tai is crying hysterical horrified in adult timeline (lord if something happened to Van... It could be something about Simone and Sammy—was that the kids name?— too)
shauna crashing out adult timeline too
Lottie screaming, like normal
close up of either Melissa or Shauna's eyes, tweaking out or something
Van like falls or something?? Like she's had a heart attacked
Akilah is not having a fun time... what
Travis with the gun
misty + Shauna rode trip? It looks like they're driving into a group of gravestones
Mari sprays something?
Tai suffocating an old man in a hospital with a pillow with Misty in the doorway... I don't even know what life is anymore. Sleepy Tai? Misty having a drug trip or nightmare??
Shauna pulls a knife on Melissa (we get to see them interact a fair share in this trailer so I'm interested in that dynamic. New Shauna ship just dropped everyone)
we see a shot of a see through phone in a drawer, very reminiscent of those old phones that you would see back in the teen timeline
Shauna in the lake being pulled down, the water is red
looks like someone breaks the shit out of their leg or dislocates it
mari gets pushed into the ground
I literally have it on the slowest playback and I can't tell what's going on
Travis is in pain, Lottie is smiling. I'm intrigued.
Hillary Swanks character says to a person above her "you really are insane)
We see someone biting another person who's probably alive (maybe the person above hillary's character was Shauna and then Shauna bites her)
young Van falling into a white duvet? After rescue maybe
van tai adult timeline kiss
a door opening, looks very wilderness like
We see a shot of a rabbit
Misty is exploring somewhere it looks like it's underground
other tai smiling holy shit that freaks me the hell out
The man with no eyes... Also freaky I recommend not going through the trailer on slowest speed and pausing alot because the freaky music mixed with the freaky shots is overall, quite freaky
Lottie looks to be getting choked
So uh... Yeah.
Anyways, I hope we get to see more of Simone and Sammy, the no eyed man, I'm really interested in what this season has to show us with Nat and Misty's dynamics as well as Shauna with everyone overall. Nat definitely deserves a lot better. I wonder if Lottie stands up for her at all, doesn't look like Travis likes Nat too much in the scene with Nat on the ground bleeding...
The song choice was great, can't wait to see the rest of the soundtrack! The overall vibes and cinematics of this season looks awesome and it's probably going to be way more traumatic and gorey than the others if the writers have anything to say about it
And most of all... WE BETTER SEE THE VAN TAN!
Edit:
To add to things I want to see—
the acknowledgement of Doomscoming in some capacity
+ Javi's death...
Jane Widdop please come back to play ghost Laura Lee 🙏
more Callie
it'd be cool to see Lisa again (Nat's funeral 👀)

saw someone do this with Glee, so i decided to try my swing at yellowjackets as Grey’s Anatomy characters🙂‍↕️
(only from seasons like 1-10is. bc that show (as a fan) has no business being that long) also most of these are crack😭🙂‍↕️
Shauna: Meredith Grey, slutty mistress, need i say more?
Lottie: Jo Wilson, they’re both goofy and dorky, and if i remember correctly when jo and alex were drinking she talked about stealing something. (i’ll rewatch and confirm this🤝🏼)
Misty: Cristina Yang, one of the twisted sisters. Cristina is very cutthroat and i feel like the misty killing jessica robert’s is pretty cutthroat. also yang is just super fucking smart, and so is misty. (i would like to note cristina yang would hate misty)
Javi: Andrew Deluca, just bc he’s sweet and he dies in the end. like i’m sorry bro but yeah😭
Tai: Owen Hunt, my fav sleepwalking adulterers <3 no but the way they both deal with trauma is so funny. like no let’s not deal with it. lets repress it and act like im not the problem (tai is not the problem tho, women are never the problem)(i actually hate owen hunt. fuck that bitch ass ginger (this is just a slide at owen. other than that ginger women {bc i don’t fuck with the male specimen} are so hot. thank you for existing))
Laura Lee: April Kepner, do we even have to ask that? i love me some bible thumpers. also i like how their environment challenges/strengthens their faith. holy women for the win ❤️🙏🏼
Mari: Lexie Grey, honestly i’m still not sure about this one, but idk i think they’re both so cute and goofy and bc mari is pit girl and lexie died in the woods😔
Gen: Callie Torres, gives off mean vibes but it’s lowkey a cutie. but also a total bad fucking ass
Ben: Arizona Robbins, twinnsss😝🤞🏼(arizona got one up on him with the prosthetic and being able to be openly gay tho😔)
Akilah: Izzie Stevens, something about hallucinating shit that isn’t there is crazy. but idk what’s crazier. hallucinating having a pet rat but it’s actually been dead the whole time or hallucinating fucking your dead ex-lover/patient/someone you stole a heart for?? idk chat, shits wild asf😭
Van: George O’Malley, only the good parts bc those parts george was sweet and cute and all fun go lucky.
Travis: Preston Burke, arrogant, narcissistic, sexist, fucking douchebags, god complex’s 😒(but also burke, like travis, had his good moments. i will say i do favor travis’ character more tho. bc he’s a kid and that’s understandable. but at his big fucking age burke knows better (okay i’m sorry let me stop before i get heated😭) anyways yeah)
Nat: Alex Karev/Amelia Shepherd, let’s be honest here, alex is so nat, when it comes to the brooding, dickhead, boyfriend, who came from a tough childhood and swears he’s tough as shit just bc he boxes. but is a fucking puppy dog and follows you around and laughs super hard at shit you say even tho you just said that persons shirt looked weird. she’s also very Amelia coded. and yes bc of the drugs and the daddy issues with seeing him get shot. maybe not the same circumstances or relationship but it played a big role in her life.
Jackie: Derek Shepherd, let’s be so fucking fr rn. of course jackie would be charming, annoying, stuck up, pretentious, McDreamy, loyal to a fault, himbo man. “it’s a beautiful day to save lives” headass😭im sorry but i totally see it. also they both die in crazy ways after both surviving a plane crash. if anyone needs to be studied, it’s them.

I don't really go here, but I have to speak into the void cause these episodes & the build-up to this season are the most invested I've ever been in this show & I need somewhere to just get my chaotic thoughts out.
-Despite it almost being a whole 2 years since S2, I realize I still. have not gotten over the loss of Natalie, which has warranted specific & automatic investment in everything Misty has gotten up to in these new eps. When she finally broke down over the loss, I could not have related more & I do not think I will react to any loss over the course of the series as harshly as I have Natalie cause there's no character to have gone through (& yet to go through, per what we don't know about the past yet) the most shit to have been ripped away from us just. when she was starting to get better thanks to Lottie(& to some extent, Misty)'s help. Shit hurts real bad!
-I strongly believe Shauna's "The only way to truly be safe...is to be the only one left," from the trailer, will end up applying to Misty when the series concludes. She's always been on the ~outs~ with the other YJs, never seems to get anywhere with them regardless of her best efforts/intentions, constantly has to resort to. doing things on her own, & has inadvertently "given the wilderness what it wants" the most by being the 1st to draw blood by severing Coach Ben's leg, destroying the black box, accidentally killing Crystal, saving. Nat in the past then killing. Nat in the present, etc. It just reads as the writing setting her up for a Last One Standing arc & being the one most ~naturally attuned to the wilderness~ even one might think the honor would go to Shauna as The Main Character™.
-I suspect Tai is about to go on a full-blown killing spree thinking she can "cure/save" Van from cancer by "giving the wilderness what it wants" without needing "Other Tai" to do any dirty work for her based on her burning the matches as a sort of ~offering~ to the wilderness after she learns of the waiter's death & the glimpse we get of her trying to suffocate somebody in the hospital in the trailer.
-As a follow-up to my above points: I think what would ultimately classify Misty as "the only one left" compared to either Shauna or Tai (I feel it's gonna come down to those 3 since we've already lost Natalie out of the adult YJs we were initially introduced to) as characters who are more obviously ~influenced by the wilderness~ in their own ways is that Misty quite literally never. ends up getting what she wants through her various "sacrifices." It always. ends up backfiring on her compared to some of the squeakier resolutions for other character conflicts & it would. directly tie back into her being the first character confirmed to be involved in the "pit girl" scene from the pilot.
-Mari is all but confirmed as "pit girl" atp. Having the season start out. with her running in the woods & then proceed to fall into. a pit with the 1st ep being titled "It Girl" just all feels too obvious to not. be the case considering all the cast & crew talk about this season being the one where we start getting answers. We might not get the scene itself this. season (what with it being spring & all), but I do think the writers are handing that to us on a silver platter here.
-Akilah is either doomed or will turn out to be the only well-adjusted survivor in the present timeline after that scene with Travis redirecting Lottie's attention to her. I see no in between for her, although I'm leaning toward the former more so than the latter.
-Coach Ben is for sure toast. I think this is a natural assumption everyone has likely made after the events of S2, but there is no way in hell he is not being executed after the sham trial the YJs are about to hold for him in a few eps. He will likely be the 1st of many Major Deaths of the season.
-Even with my opening point about Natalie & largely lighter tone with these 2 eps in mind, everything the cast & crew have been saying have pointed towards this season being the most death-heavy of the series so far. And I can only imagine that S1 & S2's Major Deaths might pale in comparison to many viewers depending on the trajectory of the season/who precisely ends up dead (I would not be surprised if Lottie were to bite it if any of the adult YJs get axed this season cause her just showing up to play sleepover with Callie feels ~too~ casual to not read into).
-Between Shauna vying for power while hating everyone around her in the past & "the hunt" being interrupted in S2's finale for "the wilderness" to claim Natalie in her place in the present (like Javi was with Natalie), I think Shauna is finally. gonna get what she wanted by being "the leader" this season (temporarily, at least) at a great personal cost (possibly the death of Jeff; possibly something else).
-I have my suspicions that Callie will kill someone &/or directly lead to the death of somebody. With how much groundwork has been lain to show that ~Callie acts the way she does because Shauna is her mother~ & now ~Shauna & Callie have a lot more in common than either realize~ it feels like the natural next step in escalating their dynamic since Callie is doing all this digging into the past. Considering her reaction to Shauna's confession to killing Adam & her literally witnessing Shauna being "hunted"/Natalie die is her being totally fine at the start of this season, Lottie is about to be 100% validated in calling her "powerful."
-Hilary Swank's mystery character will likely be a big red herring. I think many are sussing out that the attempt to tie her & Melissa together is gonna be a misdirection cause it doesn't really add up with the brief glimpses we've been given of her in the promotional material. I can't say whether or not she's gonna take up a splashy guest spot to be immediately executed or slide into a cushy recurring spot to replace somebody who will. die this season
-Even while living completely in the moment riding the euphoric high of having new eps to react to & deconstruct into oblivion, I'm already mourning the loss that'll come when the season finishes airing after the huge gap between 2 & 3, especially depending upon who might die this season. Hope everyone lives up this spring in the wilderness!

okay initial yellowjackets thoughts!!!!!
this is mostly a ramble and i need to rewatch but for now:
LOVE the opening scene and the spring setting for the 90s timeline. love getting to see them just be silly bitchy teenagers!!!! they're building huts and having dinners together and raising ducks and bunnies!!!!!! after that entire timeline in the last season being very dark and cold, it's so nice to completely switch it up to something more colourful.
i love mari. i love that she's getting more in this season right from the start and i can't wait to see what they do with her and ben. mari technically being the first pit girl is very funny (and her popping her knee back in made me want to throw up)
shauna writing in her diary like she's a child who wasn't invited to the sleepover😭
shauna and mari fighting is so funny. "i can't believe we didn't eat that bitch first"
i want to give teenage shauna hug so bad. those flashbacks to the birth episode. ooooof.
nat really doesn't want to be a leader huh
callie being the first one we see in the present timeline!! yessss it's her season!!!!!!!! her whole storyline with the bullies. "are we sure they weren't human?" "the girls???" "the guts!" her and shauna bonding over the video. i love these three (and randy lol)
misty grieving and nat's funeral made me want to cry
i'm glad walter's still a part of it cause his role in season 2 was really silly and i need there to be more to him. i really love him and misty together, and he had two of my favourite lines so far: "misty. no one picked up before they got to w" and "a sleepover? it's 11pm..."
misty i love you🥺 her little joke about the taxes and lighting their dicks on fire bit. and constantly going on about the bond her and her teammates share. thinking it's an intervention when she's called to shauna's house when they have no idea about any of it :(
i'm really enjoying adult lottie so far! i didn't get into her character in season 2 - but that might just be me always hating cult storylines. her blaming jeff for brining callie with him, and when callie mentions shauna kicking her out on the lawn "yes! she said that!"
that whole sleepover scene with the rum and milk and the animal face masks. and misty organising the cupboard
the whole speak to the manager bit
the restaurant scene. jeff not knowing how tapas works and shauna calling out the nepo guys
i have a horrible feeling that simone and sammy won't be in this season at all. which i absolutely hate. very glad that tai's whole senator storyline is seemingly over with cause i wasn't a fan, but their home life and sammy being terrified of "the bad one" was soooo good. but thank GOD the man with no eyes showed up!!! was starting to think we wouldn't see him again. but literally who the fuck is he
her and tai doing a runner to i think we're alone now😭 really curious to see where the server dying takes us. does the man with no eyes show up when someone's dying???
van and tai both lying about the restaurant/doctors?
i really we do get to see tai as a leader for a bit in the wilderness
coach ben!!!! i love you and i don't want you to die. i fully thought that case of survival stuff he found was a hallucination. could still be? but i hope not cause it'd be so interesting finding out how it got there. could potentially be linked to the tunnels/bunkers etc? him seeming surprised about the cabin burning down..... fully don't think he knew. had he been hiding in the cave when it happened? otherwise he would have seen it.
mari drinking the hot chocolate and ben talking to himself/someone. both hallucinating somewhat? yeah i need to watch this back lol
teen lottie.... slowly becoming one of my favourites. but can you please leave travis alone, i don't think giving him drugs is gonna help. watching that and knowing that his final moment is spent with lottie, trying to connect back to the wilderness... ugh
travis holding his duck 🥺
please let akilah be okay and look after her animals <3
i'll be really annoyed if nothing comes of the cabin burning down (aside from finiding out who did it). i was really hoping they'd go looking through the rubble and find bones or something. i just wanna know more about cabin daddy. literally wasn't even touched upon in season 2?
just remembered the scene in the last season where misty was wanting to reminisce about "that summer" and they all shut her up. this season is going into that summer right???
THE KISS!!!!!! can't wait to see how jackie's brought up in relation to it. did they purposely dress melissa like that? also i just really love melissa's character. yay more melissa!

I just finished the first Yellowjackets s3 episode and I loved it, so here are my thoughts before I start ep 2! Major spoilers ahead
Akilah taking care of a pen of rabbits is everything I love her. I'm also worried for her based on how sweet she is vs. Shauna and the wilderness' cruelty. Her death feels inevitable and I think it will be another death of innocence a la Javi, maybe to show the girls' cruelty.
Shauna's line to Melissa that "oh you do have a personality" was exactly the kind of fourth wall break I like to see lol.
Melissa is interesting so far because she seems in opposition with the craziness going on, but she's also very much keeping quiet to not cause any issues. I'm wondering who the blonde woman sending new YJ letters could be. My mind immediately thinks it's Melissa, but hard to say if she will be the final survivor or not. It would make sense though for her to be on the outs from the others post-rescue. She could also be a heartbreaking death for the season,
Speaking of Shauna, god damn does my girl ever have a lot of anger and emotion to work through. I love that we get to see a woman who is so mean but also complex and very sympathetic. And I'm going to need some sympathetic Mari backstory info because I already didn't stand her and as mean as Shauna is, this episode didn't make me feel for Mari at allllll. But that's a me thing. Also. Did Mari call Shauna "gaywad"?? lmao
I am SO GLAD Lottie's mental health is finally being acknowledged in the teen timeline. We know Shauna saw her take her pills in s1 and now we know that Shauna has explicitly commented on it to Lottie. The commentary on "you didn't see things at home, now you do" was interesting—especially because Lottie seems much more hesitant in her healer role in the wilderness. Also interesting Travis could hear the trees and she couldn't (because of shrooms?).
On the trees...absolutely love the screaming trees thing. And later on when everyone hears them, there are the sounds of Shauna's baby crying, etc. mixed in, so I feel like there is some symbolism there.
Lottie's little speech about each of the people who have died strikes me as important. Noting to myself that Javi will protect them; Jackie will guide them; and the Child will bring them to (?) deliverance. Jackie being the one to guide them is interesting given the necklace being passed around, and Javi being a child with a deeper connection to the wilderness.
Also. SHE DIDN'T MENTION CRYSTAL. Very odd. I know they don't have her body, but like, she also died, or vanished I suppose. They didn't mention Ben either, but Crystal happened way earlier than the Ben stuff and it seems to be a strange thing not to mention her.
Van makes a comment to Tai in the adult timeline about whether or not she wants to "burn the whole place down" and it makes me wonder if there is some truth to the other Tai setting the cabin on fire theories.
Adult Misty is obviously going through it and I found it interesting that when she donned Nat's jacket she took on parts of Nat's personality. Like how in Twin Peaks Donna wears Laura's glasses and becomes more similar to her, personality-wise. This is less extreme to that, because parts of Misty still slip through, but a fun nod.
Also let me talk about Callie for a second because I couldn't stand her in s1, but she has quickly become one of my favourites in the adult timeline. I love seeing her be fucked up and seeing how having Shauna as a mother—as well as all of the stuff she saw at the end of s2—has impacted her. I'm predicting her to have a very dark and/or violent storyline that mirrors teen Shauna, and I'm excited to see where she goes.
Ben finding a pit!! Is this going to become THE pit? And ohhh my god. Mari falling in the pit is crazy, they're definitely teasing us.
Two minor gripes: it does sort of drive me crazy that they keep introducing knew YJs into the wilderness who haven't been there all along. I wish they would've just stuck with the same extras and built on them. I'm sure the new characters will be great, but the lack of continuity bugs me. I also wish we saw at least some of how they got through winter without a cabin. Van implies in her speech that spring came immediately or very soon after? Hopefully we get more info or flashbacks later.
