Linked Universe Artist Recs

To bide time while I try to figure out some fic recs for LU, have a couple of my favourite Linked Universe artists and go check em out!! I might onto the post later too!

A Linked Universe artist who's sketches always seem so delicate and fully-rendered, no matter how rendered they really are. There's a delicate softness to the artwork that portrays a calmness both in moments of peace and moments that require peace despite hiding storms. The posing is so elegant and easy to understand the actions despite not seeing the actions in motion, and the character interactions they draw give a sense of genuinity and heart. Their Body Swap AU between Legend and Hyrule is an interesting concept and serves to strengthen the bond between the two while forcing them to open up in an entertaining way.

I also follow their main blog which is where I often get to see others art through their reblogs. They do a lot of fanart for other AUs such as the Necromancer AU and the Magical Girl AU. Her artwork manages to keep a softness to it that permeates even in the art for darker AUs through dulled pastel colours, though often her art features a range of bright sunny colours that just irradiates positivity. There have been several times where I, as an older fan of LU dating back to late 2021/early 2022, have squealed in joy from finding them taking inspiration from or drawing AUs of artists I haven't seen in a while. She's also created a very popular Four meme which I consistently use on the daily to my partner. They keep my nostalgia for earlier times of the LU fandom at bay through their artwork.

The artwork veryloudgroan produces feels like oil paintings or chalk art with its texture and vibrancy. The way they manage to weave so many colours into her artwork while keeping it all harmonious is something I honestly want to study. The atmosphere she's able to produce through the art is magnificent and I personally love the art they do of Legend and Linkle, though I love being able to compare the general portraits they do of each of the LU boys. Her lighthearted jokey art is always so silly in the best way possible and sometimes it's animated and/or fully rendered.

Their artwork reminds me a ton of old shoujo manga I read as a kid and it feels so comforting as an adult hyperfixating on something that's not shoujo. Often they'll draw Four and Legend (who I'm personally biased towards as my favourites), and especially the Colours. The outfit design and character interactions very often leave me inspired to draw more and even their more meme-y artwork feels like its got a lot of effort put into it. The colours they choose and their shading is rich and vibrant and suits the drawings perfectly, especially when a lot of their drawings are simple character interactions, lighthearted jokes, and fun doodles. They also like to ramble about Four a lot which, as a Four fan, I am very happy about.

A unique artstyle that feels very nostalgic to me, almost akin to the Rainbow Magic fairy books I grew up with as a little girl. There's such a whimsical charm to the art that feels light on its feet with so much colour and charm. Little flourishes in the art give it so much character and have so much thought put behind it. I personally love the weight she manages to put in the clothing and hair while also somehow making the characters seem to float on their feet. Often she'll post colour studies that absolutely enrapture me and I will just sit there looking at all the ways she use colours in her artworks.

Both a Linked Universe and Legend of Zelda artist. Their linework, expressions, and poses carry so much character and the character interactions they portray are so poignant and well-expressed. Their personal designs also carry so much silent story-telling and have a unique twist that makes them so interesting to look at. Their shape language in the designs are exquisite.

When they draw the Chain, it feels like they draw it with a love for all the stupid and heartfelt shit they do. They draw the Chain all so differently to each other and it makes them feel alive and like different people. There's such a variety in how they draw them. Their sketches have a loose and free feeling and are very easy to understand the nuances of emotions they're trying to portray. I especially love the portraits they do of the Chain. You should consider getting some of their LU keychains too, they're very beautiful and seem incredibly high quality.

Hey folks!!! School's been stressin me out these few days (The dreaded approach of May isn't helping either lmao) so apologies for the occasional radio silence, but I'm cooking up some stuff!! New AU just for the funsies n all, might infodump once I got these two main designs done

As for animatics or videos, I do have tons of neglected WIPs...but nothing finished unfortunately, really gotta stop procrastinating my stuff these days shfbsbf. I've been doodling 99% of the time

Dunno how I'll manage time with exam preparations but I'll see what I can pump out for y'all!! Don't make promises as usual ofc since I ain't good at getting things done this year, plus I mostly post these thing for fun (and sometimes I forget to....mb folks my brain empty sometimes shfbdh)

Giving the scrungles chao saga

Mephiles's? Sweet babyangel service chao; if they did races Meph would definitely be dancemom manipulative of the other chao handlers just to make them fight, with the chao being none the wiser.

Metal's starts off as a feral little shit that loves to bite; but biting is not very effective on Metal, so oops bro, looks like you have been government assigned a chao (Who eventually warms up to him with the correct combination of ignoring their shenanigans and manhandling them into being socialized. No, we are having a nice day at the beach, you may not go and bite small children)

The third one is for an unpictured different Metal. This one was a rescue and is very shy, but their mommy is very scary with a resting murder face which gives them some more confidence as they grow up. Anyone who messes with this chao would wind up mysteriously missing.

If these were in the game...

Meph's chao would operate like a chaos chao, except it needs higher stats in power and flight.

Metal chao 1 would be neutral/speed/flight with a disproportionate amount of kangaroos and/or bug animals givin to it.

Metal chao 2 would be dark/power/flying, raised primarily on drives and dragons.

Relativity Falls!

Design Concepts (and my unnecessary thoughts):

Excuse the the colors, ig my apps are fighting.

I see Mabel finding success no matter what happens to her, but I really like the thought of her running an insane arts and crafts business in GF. Alternatively, if she fell in the portal, she'd come out acting confident as always, but she probably wouldn't realize how much the constant change and lack of family/stability wore her out until she settled back in. In either case, she's a bit cracked.

Dipper is investigative, but cracks easiest under stress and is not as inherently adventurous as Mabel or Ford- so the portal wouldn't treat him well. If he's not the one in the portal, he'd be into stargazing and real magic to share with people, while also warding tourists away from the dangerous stuff. In general, he'd be an unhappy adult if left to his own devices, lol.

Between Dipper and Mabel, I like Dipper being in the portal more. He's a great protagonist, but as a supporting cast member, he needs to be more insane to match the draw that is 'Mabel taking care of children,' ha. I also love the idea of there being no portal / some other looming threat for these two to struggle with (at least because Hirsche has made it clear that Dipper and Mabel are equally smart, and to me it seems like the portal would reopen way quicker with them), but I didn't plan on posting these and I don't know how my followers feel about me posting lore.

Stanford and Stanley:

Pretty much how they are in canon, but now they're in a setting where they can get over themselves, ha. They aren't quite as mature as Dipper and Mabel were at their age, but after coming to GF, they finally found other people to look out for them. Dipper could be a more emotionally available and level-headed role model (I think having people to take care of is calming for him in turn), and they'd both look up to Mabel as the peak of somebody who knows how to socialize.

Fiddleford:

He's a sweet, southern, farm-raised mechanical engineer just like in canon.

Idk why Fiddleford is in GF (visiting an unnamed grandparent?), but I really like his relationship with Ford in the journal. Following that thought, in this AU, he starts out more of Ford's friend than Stan's, and it's kind of a big deal. Unlike Dipper's arc on learning to be a kid, Stan and Ford clearly struggled a lot with interpersonal relationships / finding security outside of eachother, and that's what I think this AU could be about (it's great they realized they need each other in canon, but the part where they had no one else to turn to is also kinda crazy if you ask me).

Ford gets to meet another smart kid in a weird town, which helps him feel more normal. He has a better idea of what friendship is because of it, but also, since I can't imagine Dipper wanting an apprentice so young/vulnerable/impressionable or Mabel asking only one of the twins to stay- he'd have to come to terms with the fact that he can't live in his dream world forever. (Or maybe the apprenticeship comes from somewhere else, just because the conflict around going back to Glass Shard Beach at all, or sending Stan alone could be pretty good.)

On the flipside, I think Stan's initial jealousy of Ford and Fiddleford's friendship would force him to try finding his own friends / hobbies. I like the idea that he fails at first- and a lot- but Mabel notices his mounting frustration (which he is very keen on hiding), and her consistent and unorthodox support makes him realize he wasn't alone to begin with. He can be more open around her, which makes it easier to open up to others, and then he can make friends without having to pull any tricks. He probably starts with some animals, and then at least gets closer to Fiddleford anyways (I feel like they're both more practical than Ford and value human company more, so they'd bond easier once Stan gets over his personal hurdle).

Anyways- because that was way too much- Mabel's exes are a constant source of antagonists and Dipper is stressed about setting a good example.

I love LaDS College AU sm I had a brain malfunction and made this lmao— There are so many headcanons I could come up with this concept that I just had to make something out of it.

I'd like to think that Sylus is a huge nerd but still very confident and self-assured. He's like the type of guy you wouldn't trust at first glance since he looks like an f-boy but then you talk to him for a few minutes and immediately start trusting him with your drinks and your life. He still has a few habits that shows he's a rich kid but overall it isn't really that bothersome. Anyways, credits to @yvilonion for the inspo design for Sylus :DD

Spy: Grey Fox. I was gonna go with a wolf because of his fursona but fox fits better wahhhh. Also means that scout is half fox! I’ll show that in more detail one day. Probably.

Medic: just like his Doves! The tail coat is actual his real tail. Featherrrrrs. Why are his nasty claws out? I don’t know he’s kinda weird like that.

Demo: TIGER!!!!! He’s always kinda reminded me of Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes :) why did I draw him so cute. Somebody stop me before I draw them all adorable ough.

Engineer: the bulllllerrrrrrrrr. Sorry. He’s a bull, with a nose ring. Epic. Hooves for hands, gunslinger would look like a hoof too, gotta design that later.

Heavy: big badass brown bear. Love him. Instead of bullet he has honey sticks. It costs four hundred thousand dollars to harvest honey… for 12 seconds.

Pyro: fucking dragon. hell yeah. In pyroland they see themselves as a unicorn. Baller.

Scout: Bunny scout truther over here. You can thank @/teamfurtress for that. Please check them out, commissions are open! In my version he’s a hare but that is significantly less fun to say lol. Jackrabbit kinda guy.
