Do ya ever think about Andy and Annie's dance during "Rag Dolly" and feel like watching that specific scene on loop AND sorta feeling like doing their little dance with someone at the same time 'cause hhhhh I love it and those sibs a bunch, it's just the somftest and adorablest dance to a likewise comfy song made more so by Andy's singing and I get a genuine burst of serotonin revisiting it (and lowkey that scene/song alone was what got me to watch the musical for the first time a couple years back :> if ya also have knowledge on who animated their dance or any part of Rag Dolly for that matter that'd be cool to learn about too! but I understand if that might end up being a lot to share :0)

AAAH i love love love that sequence so much!! its the cutest dance it has so much character and Andy's voice becoming so gentle and sweet right after singing No Girl's Toy is just the best thing ever. he doesn't even like Babette he's just helping his sister make a good impression.

what's crazy is looking through this whole book - i'm talking about The Animated Raggedy Ann  & Andy - An Intimate Look at the Art of Animation Its History, Techniques, and Artists by John Canemaker (the linked version has no pictures D-:) - Rag Dolly isn't really mentioned that much, despite being essentially the main theme music.

i would love to tell you more for a fact, but i just can't say for sure who animated it, as a lot of scenes aren't credited individually.

for some songs, like Richard Williams doing No Girl's Toy, Tissa David doing Candy Hearts, Art Babbitt doing Blue, and Emery Hawkins doing Never Get Enough, the artists get a section dedicated to them and the main chunk of animation work they contributed. in the credits of the film, Art Babbitt animates the Camel, Emery Hawkins animates the Greedy, etc etc - they were generally in charge of those character-centric scenes, along with a team of inbetweeners, painters, etc.

there isn't one for Rag Dolly, since it's relatively short and bounces between characters. so basically TAKE ALL OF THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT!!!

the ONLY expertise i have is that 1. ive flipped thru john canemaker's book and 2. i love this movie so much

what i CAN do is make wild guesses ^_^ and this first little verse as Ann fidgets with her dress and apron just SCREAMS Tissa David to me. here's a pose from that sequence side-by-side with one of her famous (and one of my favourite) Raggedy Ann drawings.

now to go on a tangent about an artist who could well have worked on that scene, and whom i wish there was some more info about!!!

"The only thing that Disney never understood is that to animate girls, one must be a girl!" - Tissa David believed (along with pretty much the rest of the team) that herself and Chrystal Russell (whose work is woefully sparse in the book but very much present in the movie) were the best animators of 'little Annie'. she also worked on Fern Gully; you can find her credits under her married name, Chrystal Klabunde! she supported Tissa as the primary actor for Raggedy Ann, and her style appears as this distinctive, adorable, muppet-y look throughout the film. these pics are examples of, if not her own drawings, then her stylistic influence in these scenes:

she's credited as animating the playroom dolls, but you can notice her influence in Annie come through from the beginning ('I Look, and What Do I See?') to the end ('Home') of the whole thing. like i said, the credits are never too specific, but if i had to GUESS, then this looks like her stuff. we also know for a fact she worked on the first song because of this lovely set of drawings in the book!

here's the sweetest photo of Didi Conn (Ann's voice) and Chrystal together with some clean-up sheets of a shot right before Rag Dolly - when Ann introduces herself to Babette, 'my name is Raggedy Ann, and this is my brother, Raggedy Andy,' (i still can't confirm whether they're her drawings but i wouldn't be surprised!):

anyway tl;dr: i have no way of knowing for sure who was in charge of it, and no doubt a whole team of artists were involved, (and i'm in no way trying to discredit anyone if i'm wrong) but my best guess is you can thank Tissa David for the first part, and Chrystal Russell (now Chrystal Klabunde) for their dance together - the animation changes subtley between those shots. i wish i had more artists/resources to look at, or god forbid a full breakdown of that scene, but at this point i would bet money on David's part in Annie's little introduction.

anyway i'm SO sorry for going on such a long rant in response to this lovely ask!! and i'm sorry it took so long! it took so long, in fact, that i was actually accepted into university halfway through writing it the other day! so thank you!

i had so much fun playing amateur detective so double thank you!!! again i'm probably wrong about ALL of this but it was a blast to reread sections of the book and rewatch different bits of the movie to sleuth around for clues. i hope whatever i have come up with is of some interest to you, and i hope someone learned something about the wonderful artists behind this movie :-D

just a lil update to say that i'll be moving soon, so over the next 2–3 weeks i'll be quite busy and won't be able to post a lot a lot (not that i usually post that much but i do try!)

it's funny, i've been hearing a lot about blog competition and fighting for notes and monopolising panel show content blah blah in my inbox recently. (i only included one here but there's genuinely been quite a few just in the last couple of weeks.) i don't know what might be going on on other blogs or discords or whatever, and i honestly didn't even know these were still convos people are having; i kinda thought we all agreed that this site isn't as big as it used to be, notes aren't as plentiful as they used to be, but by golly we'll just keep on posting anyways. i don't know if there are edit tags for any panel shows but i don't use them; i just post content here for my current followers and if you guys like it then that's all i wanted to do. i don't care if there are other panel show blogs with more followers or posts that get more notes or better gifs or better blogs or whatever. it's all fine. i don't care. i don't think about it. so you don't have to ask me that stuff — how to grow your blog or get more followers or more engagement, or how i feel about other blogs that post the same content as i do — i won't answer it. just post it because you want to; don't race to be the first one to get stuff at (especially at the expense of making content you're proud of!); don't put other people down; don't send anonymous hate. just be cool and worry about you. if you can't have fun here without validation in the notes then you're gonna be miserable. flopping is integral to being active.

WIP tag game: Tell me about Touch Starved Roommates and A Late Visit please!

A Late Visit is the first fic I started writing for FF7R a while ago. I’ve been thinking about turning this story into a whole fic series where four characters are in a poly relationship together (I actually posted a little gifset about that on my side blog heh :)) and write different stories/versions about their relationship. This first part would be a smutty one-shot between Zack and Cloud.

I will ramble a little bit more about this idea under the cut and post a snippet of said story. If you’re curious about that, feel free to check it out. If not, then feel free to skip this altogether. :)

So, my idea here is that Cloud and Zack are old friends who used to be soldiers working under the same company. Then, Some really bad shit happened in that company, forcing them both to quit and look for work as mercenaries instead.

They both have girlfriends—Cloud’s with Tifa and Zack’s with Aerith—who also happen to be best friends with each other (possibly even girlfriends later).

So, Tifa and Aerith are out having a girls’ night, and the boys stay home. It's late at night and Cloud feels bored and lonely. So, he calls Zack, who's equally bored and lonely, and so Cloud rides his motorcycle to Zack’s and Aerith’s place to spend some quality time with an ‘old friend.’

The boys hang out and chill together, talk about work and girlfriends, and reminisce about the good old times. They drink some beer, a little bit of something hard and bitter as well, and as a result, start feeling tipsy. Because they’re old friends and went through some truly tough times together—could be some old, long-buried feelings still linger there under the surface... buried but not forgotten—and so, one thing leads to another. :)

And here’s that snippet that I promised:

There’s a silver barbell on Zack’s belly button. It glimmers with a small, clear diamond. Probably fake, but Cloud’s not an expert and doesn’t really care either. It looks very elegant on Zack… and incredibly hot.

The room temperature suddenly gets two or three degrees warmer. Cloud feels his brain short-circuit for a good long minute or so. His eyes go wide, and his mouth goes slack.

Zack clears his throat, drawing Cloud’s attention, and cocks his eyebrow. “Like it?” There’s a hint of smirk on Zack’s face, like he knows something that Cloud doesn’t. Bastard.

Cloud looks away, and he feels his face burn. It’s not polite to stare. Especially at a guy who’s his good friend, who Cloud totally didn't crush on in the army; who's still hot, if not even hotter now; and who's totally not taking advantage of his good looks by strutting around the house wearing that slutty crop top, showing off those killer abs and the belly button piercing. Not to mention those snug dark jeans that hug his muscular thighs and firm ass just right.

Zack's smug face isn't helping, and knowing him, he's probably drinking it all up, enjoying Cloud's embarrassment. After all, Zack was always the one who preened and loved the attention (he's basically a puppy), whereas Cloud's shy and awkward and hated having all eyes on him. He still does.

Cloud's mouth feels dry and his heart beats so fast, but he finally dares a glance at Zack again. Who's still very much smirking and even quirks an eyebrow at him. Idiot.

"Looks good on you," Cloud finally attempts, croaks a little, and then tries not to cringe about it. "When'd you take it exactly?"

Zack practically beams at that. “Oh, I don’t know, six months ago maybe?" The brunet replies. All casual, like it's no biggie. Like having your belly button pierced is the most common thing in the world. Cloud frowns.

“Okay, so... What prompted you to take it?” He asks gently, genuinely curious now. He’s always known Zack to make decisions in the heat of the moment. The guy's carefree like that; doesn't really care what other people think about him.

Until he wants attention and praise, that is.

Zack laughs and shakes his head. “Well, there was this one time I got a bit too drunk at Seventh Heaven, and we had this stupid bet with Reno-” Cloud instantly rolls his eyes at the mention of Reno, “-that whoever loses the drinking game has to get one body part pierced.”

Cloud grunts, incredulously. “And you lost to Reno, of all people?”

Zack could always hold his liquor better than Cloud—in fact, there had been a couple of instances where Zack had literally had to carry a passed-out Cloud over his shoulder all the way from a pub back to his own apartment.

Something that Cloud prefers very much not to think about right now or how strong Zack really is. It's not doing him any favors here.

“Weird, right? Thought it was gonna be a piece of cake ‘cause you know me and how much I can drink, and there's no way that scrawny little asshole could ever beat me, but believe me or not, Reno can really hold his liquor. Apparently,” Zack laughs nervously, rolling his blue eyes a little. Cloud still doesn't quite believe him.

Zack continues: “So, after Reno had me beat at that game and we were like, totally wasted and all, he tried to change the rules. 'Cause that's Reno fucking Sinclair, right? Like, sheesh, fuck that guy. Anyway, he was gonna try changing the rules so the winner can choose which body part you have to get pierced.”

Cloud instantly grimaces and scoffs. Knowing Reno, he’s not exactly surprised to hear that.

"And knowing Reno and his twisted little mind, he started going back and forth about whether I should get my nipple, or hells, my dick pierced." Cloud's eyes go wide, and he actually snorts a little. Zack fervently continues, "Which, I'm not gonna lie, made me really fucking nervous 'cause could you even imagine getting your dick pierced? Like, how painful it could be?"

Cloud shudders; his shoulders shake. Although he can't deny there's a certain appeal to it—like, he's really straining not to think about Zack's dick right now and how it would look pierced—still, the whole idea sounds extremely painful to him.

He offers his friend a sympathetic look instead. “So, what happened, then?”

“Well,” Zack smirks. He drapes one tanned, muscular arm over the backrest of the couch. Just behind Cloud’s head, which the blonde desperately tries to ignore. “Your girlfriend happened. You know how Tifa gets when she’s pissed, right?"

Cloud nods like it’s obvious. Of course he does—she’s his girlfriend, duh.

"Like, she just stared down at Reno with this kind of menacing look on her face that still gives me chills-” Cloud smiles; he knows exactly what Zack is talking about. “And she reminded him of some ‘agreement’ they have. I don’t know what that’s all about, and I’m not sure I even want to know, but Reno totally paled out. I’ve never seen him that freaked out or witnessed anyone shut his mouth as quickly as Tifa did, so it was kind of funny. So, there. All thanks to your wonderful girlfriend, my dick and nipples are still intact.”

Cloud smirks and hums at this. So very proud because that's his girl and he knows he can always count on her to do the right thing. He finally dares to peek at Zack's piercing again, still feels slight heat on his face and gives it a pointed look. “So, how’d you end up with that one?”

Zack kind of beams again and then looks down, almost shyly. “Ah. Well… it was Aerith’s suggestion, actually. She thought it would look good on me, so I took it. And then she said she likes it, so I haven’t taken it off yet.”

I have a confession to make (we really need confession boxes again but like, secular). I can't ship show!Jonsa because Jon looks like my actual real-life brother. I'm okay with book!Jonsa just because he's like a completely different character and I don't imagine the show-version in my head. So idfk know how Sansa's going to deal with it but it's going to be juicy. Lol!!!!

I'm just thinking of the moodboards, gifsets, and fics that we show Jonsa shippers have posted that must have made you close the app in horror. 😂 Kudos to you for surviving the fandom despite us!

The thing about book Jonsa is that Sansa romanticizes a brother/sister love early on in the books:

"Who cares about your stupid dancing master?" Sansa flared. "Father, I only just now remembered, I can't go away, I'm to marry Prince Joffrey." She tried to smile bravely for him. "I love him, Father, I truly truly do, I love him as much as Queen Naerys loved Prince Aemon the Dragonknight, as much as Jonquil loved Ser Florian. I want to be his queen and have his babies." (AGOT, Sansa III)

So the revulsion we feel isn't quite the same feelings she has or even Westeros more broadly which, as much as they disapprove of incest as a practice, still had a soft spot for/celebrated specific instances of it. There's additional commentary/spec on the impact of this on Jonsa by agentrouka-blog (link).

And, if you combine the fact that Sansa perceived that relationship as something beautiful with the revelation that Sansa had a crush on a guy that everyone recognizes as a Jon stand-in...well, it feels like a set-up for odd, pre-parentage reveal, feelings:

"Bronze Yohn knows me," she reminded him. "He was a guest at Winterfell when his son rode north to take the black." She had fallen wildly in love with Ser Waymar, she remembered dimly, but that was a lifetime ago, when she was a stupid little girl. "And that was not the only time. Lord Royce saw . . . he saw Sansa Stark again at King's Landing, during the Hand's tourney." (AFFC, Alayne I)

Notice that the descriptions of Waymar and Jon feature some of the same key words:

Ser Waymar Royce was the youngest son of an ancient house with too many heirs. He was a handsome youth of eighteen, grey-eyed and graceful and slender as a knife. Mounted on his huge black destrier, the knight towered above Will and Gared on their smaller garrons. He wore black leather boots, black woolen pants, black moleskin gloves, and a fine supple coat of gleaming black ringmail over layers of black wool and boiled leather. Ser Waymar had been a Sworn Brother of the Night's Watch for less than half a year, but no one could say he had not prepared for his vocation. At least insofar as his wardrobe was concerned. (AGOT, Prologue)

"No," Jon Snow said quietly. "It was not courage. This one was dead of fear. You could see it in his eyes, Stark." Jon's eyes were a grey so dark they seemed almost black, but there was little they did not see. He was of an age with Robb, but they did not look alike. Jon was slender where Robb was muscular, dark where Robb was fair, graceful and quick where his half brother was strong and fast. (AGOT, Bran I)

There's a post by the usurpersdog about similarities between Waymar and Jon (link) and another by princess-in-a-tower more focused on the Jonsa implications (link), and I know there are more that I'm just not finding at the moment. But, basically, I'd agree with everyone else who has pointed it out before that it all reads like Martin has intentionally prepped Sansa to a) romanticize Jon, b) romanticize loving him even before parentage reveal.

I assume Martin will go for it and make Jonsa struggle with knowing their feelings aren’t quite right, but if the focus is on the heartache of an impossible situation, I think that can pretty easily lure people into Sansa’s way of thinking about it which would undoubtedly invoke her stories/songs, assuring herself, and the audience, of a certain context for the development of what is unacceptable to us/their world. The way she compares herself to a lady in the song and we have so many in-world stories/songs Martin could/will weave into this…I think he’s done a lot of work to create a pathway for it. Sympathy is a very powerful thing, and this wouldn’t only be a forbidden love but an impossible one, only, it isn’t, not really, so the audience’s relief would echo Sansa’s post parentage reveal. So much potential there!

YEAH EXACTLY LIKEDKSDFJ guess what? you don't have to watch or engage with this show if it's gonna make you this mad???? and exactly that too, chief takes his helmet off a bunch... i made a post once saying that the silver timeline john HAS to take his helmet off because that is how we as an audience can understand him as a character! just like mando from the mandalorian, he keeps his helmet on most of the time BUT we have to have moment like him taking his helmet off in order to feel what he is feeling, the same goes for john! and i also said that, this john will be different that main canon john because he isn't a blank slate here where the consumer can put themselves in his shoes, they have to give him a personality so he won't be a boring character (which is why they made him tell dad jokes or have sympathy for kwan!), this is the john the games don't show and i am glad we get to see his character fleshed out!!!! (sorry for the rambling, i just love john and how the halo is portraying him!! and you're welcome!!! i adore your gifsets so much <3)

i think a lot of people just went into the show intending to hate it no matter what. i can understand some people have legitimate criticism, but most of the negativity i've seen has clearly been from people who've only played the games and nothing more.

a good comparison i saw someone make saying that the show is following in halo 4's footsteps of exploring john's humanity under the armour. the contrast between the start of the episode with the insurrectionists saying that Spartans aren't human against him removing his armour to reveal that he is just a person underneath it all is part of why i think the scene worked so well.

i also get that some people thought seeing his face was jarring - i mean even i was a little shocked about it at first (even though i already knew they were going to do it) - but it's just because we're so used to seeing chief as a suit of armour. there's no reason he can't take his helmet off more often like he does in the extended universe, even though i doubt we'll ever see his face in the games.

also i'm surprised that some people don't seem to think pablo looks "like" chief... what exactly were they expecting? i always thought pablo was a good choice in terms of his physical appearance. he looks like an older version of how john appears in animation or the comics:

so yeah, i knew there was going to be a lot of outcry about the show because of moments like these, but at the end of the day it's just an adaptation - and there are plenty of other video game adaptations which changed a hell of a lot more compared to the games they're based on. but for me personally, i think the show is off to a good start. and thank you again for the lovely asks 😊

why do you whitewash namjoon?

i am assuming you are referring to my most recent gifset of silver hair namjoon because for whichever reason all of my other gifs of namjoon in the past never had a question like this pop up. even though i admited (several times) that i don't always gif him and put together a lovely gifset for a beautiful mutual because

1) i adore namjoon just as the others and 2) i wanted to make someone smile knowing someone was thinking of them when i made the set

with that said -- the question "why do you whitewash namjoon" = implies to me that you're suggesting that this is reoccuring. which isn't the case at all. I dont do any this accusation on purpose.

here, here, here, here, here, and here are the last few gifs I have done of him. all consisting of different coloring techniques due to the quality, colors, and lighting i have to play with while creating the gifs.

now, if you are in fact referring to the silver hair namjoon set, then you can understand that there are 9 different videos, 9 different qualities, and 9 different "versions" of namjoon sporting the silver hair. silver and purple (which look gorgeous together) were my main color pallet choices (hes literally earing purple hues in two of the gifs) i was working with and added in. with hints of magentas and reds (seen on the bwl pink gif, his vlive, the fact performance one etc.)

to make my gifs look like a set, i create a psd to play with so the set looks together instead of individual gifs thrown into a collage.

now, i struggle to find this whitewash you claim (im not trying to come off as arrogant, so i asked a few trusted giffing friends about it as well) because namjoon still has a beautiful hued color to his skin. because i was playing with reds, pinks, and magentas, it most likely dulled down the yellows tones to bring forth the warmer ones. reminder, i was attempting to play with cooler vibe colors (like silver - to bring out his hair - and purple. bc again, those combined are pretty.)

understandably so, it sounds like you must not enjoy the set and my choice of coloring tactics. and that's perfectly ok!! not everyone is going to like things made by others. but i will express to you, faceless anon, that there is no intention for me to ever whitewash a person. if you're upset that i picked cool tones over warm tones, then all i can say is that i understand your distress and my apologies for the lack of warmer tones.

but i did not make him white.

A few of my friends referenced the very bottom middle gif in that set. Which can be a pinpoint of him being lighter than his normal color.

This is roughly the original video coloration used for him. For me to even out the tones and not make the single gif stand out terribly, i had to try my best to change things that fit with the pallet used. I could go back and try adding more darker tones if this is truly bothersome. 🧡

Planning: what would make people care about Su She when his existence barely gets acknowledged at all apart from memetic hate? apparently the answer, as shown here and here, is FaceApp. I decided on the SuYao Jinlintai meeting because his face journey here is the best thing, from timid to No Thoughts Head Empty Only Lianfang-Zun in like 0.3 seconds. you can see his universe rearrange itself in real time. I need others to appreciate that as well ;w;

Programs/Apps/Tools: FaceApp, Clip Studio Paint Pro, this site to combine GIFs

Preparing: so, FaceApp. it does not have a function to do edits in bulk, or for videos, at least not where I could find it. okay, no problem, I said like a fool, I'll just put every frame through it individually. 105 frames in total, let's go. FaceApp also does not save edits in order, and there isn't a good way to see which images I did already, so I had to sort the correct sequence by hand after and sift out accidental duplicates, which. hm. hnnnnn-

Editing: FaceApp free version saves images in low quality with a watermark. okay, no problem, I said like a goddamn fool, I only need the face and hair so after removing noise and sharpening everything I'll just mask it and put the non-FaceApp frames below. That worked out fine for the first GIF; the head movements are minimal enough for me to get away with one mask for the whole animation folder. Laziness wins!

For the second GIF I had to mask each frame individually, roughly, with my mouse because my surface tablet couldn't handle the file for some reason.

I wanted to keep this one close to the original in colour, just enhance it a bit. the layers I used are: - (correction layer) normal, Brightness/Contrast: 5/10, 100% opacity - overlay, solid colour #974B33, 15% opacity - (correction layer) normal Brightness/Contrast: 0/20, 100% opacity

Posting: the next day, to wait if I catch any errors after resting my eyes. I actually did make a biiig mistake, but since it would've been v tedious to fix.. *chucks this out there anyways*

Conclusion: I'm still fairly happy with how it turned out, and especially with the reactions and nice tags!!! :3 but also, wow this was. an embarrassing amount of effort and I'm sure there would've been an easier way to do it. if I ever get it in my head to do something like this again, please, someone, beat me with a stick.
