Imagine Egg A1 still has one life left, and it somehow manages to escape the facility... It is being followed by mobs, by Federation employees, being hurt by the poison ivy and other environmental threats, but it keeps running, because what other choice is there? That parkour course was a trick after all, the last block was a fake, it was never meant to pass that test in the first place.
So it keeps running, but the Federation workers are getting closer. It won't be able to avoid them forever...
But then it bursts through some bushes and comes face to face with someone new - and it's Bad, out building or exploring or just wandering alone. A1 is immediately afraid, of course. It is a stranger, a very visually striking stranger, the complete opposite of the pure white and featureless employees of the Federation. But there are people close behind, and it knows what will happen to it if it is caught, so... It has no choice but to try. It has no way to communicate, no signs or books, so it simply rushes to hide behind him and hopes he understands, and that he is willing to help...
And Bad, for his part, well.. he's an extremely cautious and paranoid person, and this is just an incredibly confusing and unexpected situation to be in. An unknown egg appeared out of nowhere and is hiding behind him, he can see Federation employees in the distance that are clearly looking for something... He knows that the code has been disguising itself as eggs, and that the strange egg in front of him with no marks, no distinguishing features, an egg that he has never seen before, could easily be the code monster preparing to attack at any moment...
But there is absolutely no way Bad could ever look at an egg in distress and not try to help it, even knowing it could be a trap.
So he quickly digs a shallow hole and pushes the mysterious egg into it, covering it up just in time, and when the employees throw him a book asking if he had seen anything, he lies effortlessly, he complains about nonsense, he asks them where the Ekea is and is as annoying as he can be, until they leave.
And now they're alone... just Bad an this mystery egg in the middle of the woods, A1 too afraid to leave the hole even when Bad tries to coax it out. He gives it food and tries his best to comfort it, to tell it everything is okay and that the pursuers are gone. He gives it some signs and a book, trying to see if it will write anything to him or answer any of his questions, but he gets no reply. A1 is just too afraid to even attempt to answer, and Bad doesn't even know if it understands him. He tries what few words he does know of the other languages, and still no response.
What should he do? As much as the image of a tiny, terrified egg makes him want to do all he can for it he also needs to be safe. He can't bring it home, because if it is a code there is no way he is bringing it anywhere near Dapper. Should he call someone else for help, or would that draw too much attention? Would it even be safe for him or the egg to let anyone know right now? And was this egg dangerous, or harmless and in need of protection? He wouldn't abandon it regardless but...
What now?

Cosmere Pin Hoop
So, I want to make a pin hoop to show off the pins I got from the Sanderson Secret Project boxes. I could do this the easy way, which is to just . . . sandwich a couple layers of fabric and felt in an embroidery hoop, hot glue the edges, and call it good. But why would I do that when I could instead make an embroidery fanart project?
I've come up with four possible designs, some of which are very specifically oriented towards these specific characters, and some of which would allow for a little more variation. I'd love opinions/votes on which other people like best. (Please ignore my repeated misspelling of constellations, BTW. Fixing it would involve re-exporting the images a fourth time, and I don't feel like doing that.)
I am not going to embroider the pin images, to be clear; they're just there to show how the design would look with them in place. I think any of these would allow for a few extra pins to be added, though I don't plan on getting a ton more. (If I do, I'll make another hoop.)
The constellations/systems, by the way, are the Scadrian and Rosharan systems, which I traced from the bookmark in the first box.
Bonus points if you comment or reblog with your thoughts on which design you picked and why you like it best.

when I look for new clothes it’s 99% of the time because I have a very specific idea of an article of clothing that I’d like, but I find that most times my online searching inevitably lead me to shein or shein-like sites, which is so annoying. like, they’ve had to have stolen the design from *somewhere* you know? and I’d like to not contribute to absolutely horrendous worker conditions and consumption landfills etc etc, thanks.

hey!! i’m interested in learning how to sew to make plushies bc there’s a character from a show i just need a plushie of and you seemed like a great person to ask. so, do you have any advice for a person who is basically completely new to sewing something like a plushie. i have embroidery and cross stitch experience but that really isn’t transferable stitching lol even if it’s just basic patterns to follow or small tips anything would be appreciated!!!
Hi nonny! I will probably have a longer answer in the morning, but for now I cannot recommend sewdesune's free Stater Pack Plush Patterns highly enough. It's a pack of plush patterns in four different difficulty levels, all of which are extremely well explained, that start you off with an explainer of the very basics of sewing and teach you new plushie skills with each new level of pattern. All of her patterns are very very well designed, but she really went above and beyond for this one, and it is designed for people who have never sewn before.
If you're okay with letting me know which character you want to plushify, I might have some pattern recs for you? Some characters are easier to plushify than others, but I might know of a pattern you could use as a base to start your modifications from

I felt like the outer fabric costing around 100€ was a bit expensive but then I looked how much a coat costs and a coat with a lot polyester and definitely not as much wool already costs over 100€, so actually I'm fine with that.

honestly, it's really interesting thinking about how the events of the desert dream in 1998 would get blown out of proportion in the coming years ; hell, it already kinda is twenty-four hours later. not only does the fbi get involved ( and they get involved quick ) but the entire thing is immediately labeled as 'the desert dream massacre' which is ... simply not true. if tyler doesn't kill joyce and michelle isn't shot then the total body count is four cops, with two on life support from the motel burning down. this is literally confirmed in game!
events get labeled as massacres if there's a huge body count, or if it's violent enough. the desert dream killings were neither. all the victims were shot, usually at a distance, or they suffered from burns ; which, while violent, it was more of an escape attempt on the holts' part than anything else. i also find it telling that, even if the holts kill a hostage or two, agent bradley doesn't bother mentioning that in private. all he cares about is the cops lost to the standoff. it's no surprise that killing an officer will get you a more severe punishment then if you kill a regular person, that it can sometimes send you straight to death row on its own, but the fact they don't even care about the deaths of any of the hostages ... it sure is something.
especially since the only hostage deaths in the desert dream can turn the only two kids in the game into orphans. or on the flip side, if the holts didn't harm a hostage, there's no mention of that either. or how the hostages were treated, which compared to usual hostage situations, they got it better than most. it's just the fact that they killed cops ( who were under the thumb of a corrupt sheriff, by the way ) that made this into a massacre. though i wouldn't be surprised if to the public the force would then heavily focus on any other victims, that's usually what happens normally, after all.
anyway, point is, classism does play a role in how cases and crimes are treated -- especially back then. the holts were poor, notoriously so, and they were a family full of drop-outs with nothing to their names. the very second they escape the motel, their names are plastered all over the country and their fates ( including jay's, who's merely an eighteen year old who was an accomplice at best ) are decided : they're going straight to death row. even if jay tries to do the right thing and come clean to agent bradley, tries to turn on his family, said guy immediately goes to pin all the murders on him, for seemingly no reason at all! it's very unjust, and ah ... shady!
the news and papers hype up their crime spree and i wouldn't be shocked that within a couple years, the holts would be presented as bloodthirsty rednecks who were simply greedy rather than a family that didn't have any help and got in way over their heads. the narrative would be twisted so much, especially if three of the holts were never found. there'd be no word from their side, no mention of the thugs who were threatening to kill them, just a true crime story where they were at the forefront of a very unfortunate situation and got away with it. leaving gossips to fill in the blanks as they please, and considering the police's and the fbi's behavior towards this case, they would only fuel the narrative that the holts were a family who did all this on purpose and relished in the aftermath, a family who loved doing the crime.
anyway, it's just something i love thinking about for post canon stuff when it comes to my adf muses. how wildly inaccurate the story's become in time, simply because people got bored or because of the classism back then that was so woven into the broadcasted crime that it's become impossible to separate the two. they'd paint the holts out to be wildly dangerous, cruel individuals and probably spin tales about unsolved murders and robberies and how it could be the work of a holt who had got away. their entire motivation would be obscured and would've gone unsaid, leaving random civilians and a force who hates them to speak for them instead. it'd be a whole thing! and the desert dream was dramatic, sure, but by the time everything is said and done you'd probably barely recognize what the media was talking about had you actually been there.

me, full of ongoing scrupulosity abt microplastics and also a vague sense that it would be good for me to take another crack at incorporating running into my life for 'holy shit i desperately need endorphins' reasons, scouring the shorts market for anything natural-fiber but also functionally/aesthetically fit for purpose and coming up almost* entirely blank: what if i bought another one of the merino-tencel tanks whose fabric i'm in love with (or‚ you know‚ sourced similar fabric somewhere that wasn't already a different garment‚ but like‚ that would involve learning things about 'where to get specialty fabric' in addition to the 'how to sew it' part) and turned it into running shorts? surely it couldn't be that hard??
⸻
* in fairness, icebreaker does make some that tbh are probably ideal except for cost but like. do i want to go running in basketball shorts? not really. and the tiny (women's) version only comes in black which is so dreary. i keep hoping they'll come out with some other colors but so far no dice! also an extremely crunchy-granola company makes some weird little gym shorts in a hemp knit which. i'm sorry, i grew up in manhattan and i'm dubious! they might be great but! 🧐

listen as fun as writing is, im generally in complete control of the situation. i can set up a high-stakes scenario, but it's not tense for ME bc i know where things r gonna end up
which is why shit like dnd is so fun. it's 100% improv. me improv lying by omission thru a zone of truth to these people who can and have Already almost killed me, who would sic their legion of knights on me if they got even a Sniff of the fact that i took part in regicide. it wouldve been very very bad. it was TENSE. and it was so fun lfkjslkdfj
lying by omission and pointing at a dude i hate as the one at fault for it all. perfect scapegoat.

Hiiiii, so I have another suit I wanna work on, but I’m waiting for the fabric and I also have to get the hippogryph off the mannequin, so I’m finishing the head for that. Anyway I realized a while ago that I painted the eye mesh the wrong color but I’ve been putting it off 🙃
So now I’m repainting that and hopefully I can finish that today? (Maybe not, it’s 5pm) and maybe get this head on the mannequin to pattern it for fur
I also bought some head base 3d models but I have to print a respooler so I can actually use the filament I wanna use in the ams of my printer. So I’m waiting for the respooler so print. And I can’t work on the other suit I wanna do until the fabric comes. Several waiting games going on here.
I’m still doing stuff, it’s just kinda mundane stuff

Well, it's about that time again...and I've been giving earnest thought to making a video game. I mean, I've always dreamed about it since I was a kid, but things have not really aligned, for many reasons. But lately, I've been replaying a lot of my favorite games and thinking more analytically about them. I've been watching deep-dives on YouTube and hearing other people's analyses. I've been meaning to draw art of several characters with the explicit purpose of adding said art to in-game screens. (Granted, there I'm talking about making a graphical mod for personal use, but if I then go use those same art pieces in a game I design from the ground up and then share, then it's whatever, right?) One of my friends bought a game design toolkit for me when my finances were uncertain, and I've been meaning to put those tools to use. Maybe it's just the fear of death from all the weird health issues I've been having, but...I dunno, I'm suddenly finding myself wanting very badly to put some earnest work into the endeavor. But it also sucks because, like, every single time I've sat down and had time and desire to work on such things this week, I just feel blocked and tired. And also, there's this nagging feeling of...who's all this work even for? It's so hard to get people interested in creative projects these days, so hard to be seen...like, I can already imagine what a lot of things would be like in a game I would make. And if it's just me, that imagination is enough, you know? I don't need to create assets and program them and package and distribute them when I can just close my fuckin' eyes.
Have a great day, everyone! Love you! I hope you can find time to have some pleasant daydreams today! 👋💕
